Called corporate to figure out my payment and was told they did have cars, went to the location and it was closed with a 'be back in 25 minutes sign'. An hour went by before someone came back. There were 7 of us waiting on car reservations for pickup that were all within that time frame, some there even before me. Went inside, was told they didn't have a car for me and that I shouldn't have came. When I brought up getting my money back he made a phone call to someone and suddenly I could have a car in the parking lot. No walk around precheck, just handed me the keys at the desk. Car wasn't cleaned from the last user. 3 days later I returned it at my scheduled time, same employee. No walk around recheck, he just asked if I filled the tank and I said yes I did, and he said I was good to go. Hours later I got an email that I'm being charged $90 for a tank of gas?? The worst customer service experience ever by Guillermo. Paid in full in advance for a week of rental. Got a call half hour before pick up time stated no vehicle. Called the next day, according to customer service they have a lot of vehicles on site. When I arrived, Guillermo told me there is no vehicle at all until 4-5pm, yet there are over 10 cars in the parking lot. I had a Dr appointment that day, Guillermo said with "I don't care" attitude "Just call an Uber". Won't use Budget again... Customer service was terrible, they don't care about their customers. No wonder why they have a low rating on yelp. Don't use them, I recommend Hertz. Way better company and customer service. read more

Customer service charged me extra and told me to return the car 10 miles away, which isn't realistic when you're out of town. Had to repeat the same story to multiple agents. Not helpful at all. It took over 2 weeks to resolved and had to call Avis customer service 5 separate occasions to discuss my overcharge. I don't understand how we booked it too late when I got a confirmation at 2:41 saying my reservation was confirmed through text. When I called how much it would be for a small/compact car it cost more than my original reservation for a full size car. They wouldn't give me the same price that I originally had even though it was a smaller car they were offering. I was shocked to see the Simi Valley Avis ranked 2 stars on Yelp. They are clearly overrated. Keep in mind that this location is also Budget Rent-a-Car so this review would apply to both due to the fact that this location is a complete clown show. I reserved a car online through Avis for 11 days. My reservation was confirmed repeatedly via email. When I arrived at the location, after waiting about 10 minutes for another customer where I overheard the Avis man tell her that they were out of cars. When I gave the man my information he told me that I cancelled my reservation. He insisted that I come around and look at his computer screen, as if that was proof that I cancelled my reservation. I went home and called Avis who again confirmed my reservation. I returned to the Simi Avis and was given the same runaround. When I asked him to get on the phone with Avis he kicked me out, saying nobody talks to him that way. I had to get on hold for 20 minutes to get a full refund which will take 3 to 10 business days - almost $500. My reservation was still active when speaking to the Avis rep. Summary: Sketchy, Clown show, rude, will fight you if you want, good chance your reserved car won't be there when you need it like I did. read more

Update. Avis resloved this and We rented a car in Simi Valley for a trip to Arizona. Car experienced a blowout on the freeway. The car was newer and didn't have a spare. We called Avis and they said they would take care of everything at no charge. It was a hassle waiting for the tow truck and getting an Uber to the closest open location (out of Avis's control) so we can get another car, but it all worked out. At no point during the call did they say I would be charged for the tow. Just received a letter saying they were going to charge my card for the tow. I have been renting from this Avis/Budget location since they first moved here and opened up. Since they opened I have had nothing but a great experience. If I have my reservation, the check-out time is lightning fast, and even if I don't have anything prepared, the staff here will take care of you and make sure you are out in a dependable car quickly and efficiently (if they have cars available). The manager Guillermo comes off as someone serious, but he is just making sure you get the car you reserved, and have a great rental experience. Fabricio is all smiles, and very welcoming when you enter the location. Together, these two have such a great dynamic, that they have not only had me coming back here for years, but also built a loyal customer base. I have see some pictures of dirty vehicles, and I will say I did receive one once, but it honestly wasn't that dirty and I specifically asked if I could just take it as is because I needed to go. Even though Fabricio said it would take him 10 minutes to vacuum and wipe down, I declined. They inspect the car with you, and allow you to inspect the inside as well. Everyone has the opportunity to request another car, or even change one out at any Avis location if there is an issue. Small locations usually have big hearts, and these guys show it. read more

We picked up a car to drive from Simi Valley to Florida on June 27. After one day, having crossed the desert, we got a tire light. Since it was Sunday, we had only a few choices of where to go to have it checked. Big O Tire in Phoenix was open. They showed me that all 4 tires were bald and looked like the original equipment on a car with 80,000 miles on it. We called Avis who offered to pay for one tire or have me drive the unsafe car to the airport and work on transferring all our luggage from the car to another. They were not willing to deliver a car to my location. We decided to replace the tires, fearful that with a long Texas desert ahead of us, the bald tires would give out. The next day, the oil light went on. I again called Avis from Fredericksburg Texas and they agreed to pay for an oil change up to $100. The oil change cost $79. The rest of our trip to Florida was free of repairs. When I turned in the car I was given an email to send the receipts for reimbursement. Since then Avi's has refused to respond with anything but a canned email message which denies I made any calls to their emergency roadside people. It is SHAMEFUL that Avis would rent out a car that was clearly unsafe for a cross country journey. They put our lives and safety at risk. Between the tires and oil change I am out $670 which Avis is not even acknowledging. Apparently their corporate policy is deny everything, rent out defective and unsafe cars, and deal with the occasional lawsuit. They know perfectly well that it is very difficult to sue for $670 and they are willing to stick the middle finger at customers. ZERO STARS! We left to drive across county from L.A. to Florida. This was discussed at pick up. We got the extra insurance, "just incase." With a several thousand mile trip we wanted to be safe. We got to Phoenix and discovered ALL of the tire warning lights were on. The tire company showed us that the treads were completely gone. The manager explained how dangerous it would be drive with bald tires that had over 80K miles on them. We could have had an accident due to treadless tires, with rubber chunks missing, about to blow out. We replaced the tires, which was necessary for our safety. Our trip was delayed a day due to the negligence of AVIS. We purchased 4 tires, it was less than $600. The tire company manager took pictures and explained the dangerous condition we had been placed in by AVIS. We have also sent the pictures to AVIS, called multiple times, sent emails and spent HOURS trying to get reimbursed for the tires. SO FRUSTRATING. All overseas call center people have one job, tell you no with a rehearsed script. The bottom line is that Avis doesn't care about your safety! They don't service their cars. You put your life at risk by renting from AVIS. YOUR LIFE and safety don't factor into their profits. AVIS kept the new tires we paid for. They won't reimburse us despite the receipt and photos. They claim since Roadside Service didn't take notes we have no claim. Yes, Roadside service, who ever that is, lost the notes so our notes don't matter, on a mysterious Roadside service "person." Total B.S. After years of renting cars from Budget and AVIS, not only will we NEVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN, EVER, we will warn everyone we know and anyone reading this who values their life, do not risk your safety for a company who puts profits ahead of YOUR safety. Avis is greedy, outsources your calls to show you how little they care. You have been warned! Pay extra for a company who has integrity. We will! If I could given this place 0 Stars, I would have. First of all they answered the phone line as Budget cat rental and not Avis. Despite the horrible reviews I read, I also found a few good things so I thought I'd give them try. So I reserved a crossover SUV for the next day and was quoted $584 for a week with insurance. So the next day, my friend and I arrived early for my 3pm appointment. When we arrived we were surprised to see a post it on the door "be back in 15 minutes", with no start time. As we looked around the lot, it was empty with only a few standard cars and no crossover suv. We waited over q5 minutes before the staff got back and opened the door. We went in and I said I was early for my reservation. I was shocked to see on the wall that it only said Budget Truck Rental and nothing about it being a car rental location which was definitely confusing. There were signs outside the door that said Budget / Avis so obviously they are the same company. The Man Behind the Counter asked me for my ID and the credit card. I asked him where my process over vehicle was because we did not see any anywhere in the back lot. He told me that he only had a hatchback Prius for me. Confused I asked him what happened to my original reservation which I had made a day prior. He told me that I was scheduled specifically for a standard vehicle. I said no, your stuff, a female told me that I was confirmed for a crossover vehicle and this was the price I was given. He told me they didn't have one and that they would have never reserved one for me. Wow was that ever insane! I didn't give him my credit card and I had just given him my ID. I got my ID back and went outside to make a call. I then went back in canceled my reservation and left. Never again. I did try calling the budget / Avis Rent-A-Car in Thousand Oaks because a friend of mine had referred me to them and said that they were fantastic. Of course after reading the reviews on that one, they seem to be a bit worse than this one in Simi Valley. When we tried to call them, we were not surprised that they did not answer the phone and that the phone number was transferred to a cell phone which no one answered. Epic fail Budget and Avis. I don't think I will ever rent from you. Don't bother testing these ones out. Funny ending when I went back into the store to let the representative know that I was canceling, I overheard the conversation between him and another gentleman who had come in after us. Actually AAA sent me to the Thousand Oaks location,a bit far.I would rather contribute to local businesses or in the area. When renting a car always check for discounts on-line,or their your own personal insurance and or though AAA and AArp. They provide many discounts.You just have to do a little work. Now prior to me picking up the car,I followed up with this location just to make sure everything was ok and confirmed. Always check and follow up. Sometimes customers don't return the cars back on the days their suppose to or even on the times their suppose to.Just 411. The box truck we rented was an absolute nightmare. The gas tank would not function properly and would cause the pump to shut off every second. This resulted in me having to bend down and finagle the gas pipe with my other hand as I had to strain to fill up the tank, which sometimes took upwards of 20 minutes. I had to do this the entire drive from Simi Valley to Denver, Colorado. On top of that they gave me the truck with an almost empty gas tank, which led to them trying to charge me for not filling up the tank when I dropped it off. Imagine that? They gave it to me empty and they expected me to fill it up? Totally nuts. Lastly, the back of the truck was a mess. They didn't even try to clean it. I would have paid a bit more per day for another vehicle but the best he could do was more than double what I was already paying. Day one: we went to Simi Valley Budget to pick up our car at 08:10. The Budget staff processed the paperwork but there was a problem with the car we did not get out there till 09:00. Day two: we reported to the Budget that the car given was a smoker's car. We were told there are no other cars and no other suggestions by rude staff who hung up on us. We all got sick during our trip, especially our daughter who suffered from an asthma attack in the car with A/C on. Day 10: Back to Simi Valley to return the car at 08:00. The staff told us that the car was supposed to be in Atlanta. There was no record the car was rented to us so I could not return the car even though I showed the original rental paperwork. The worse thing that happened was the other staff attempted to con me for additional charges by telling me that the gas was almost empty. I showed the staff that the tank was full. I just filled the car up at Costco gas station in Simi Valley. Budget was trying to scam us since I did not believe that the staff working there could not tell if a car's gas tank is full or not. After one hour, the staff printed out paperwork just to get me out of their office. By the time I left, Budget charged me an additional day for rental since I have returned the car 40 minutes late. The reason I could not return the car was Budget's mistake, not mine. We are not responsible for Budget miss management and unprofessional staff. We are extremely upset by this experience. Wish we had rented our car from Enterprise Car Rental. We booked our rental car through Costco travel. Costco has always treated us well since we have been members for over 25 years. When I realized I did not have my cell phone, I went back and asked if a cell phone had been found and I was told no. When I got back home I went on my laptop to ping my phone's location and it showed it was at the Avis/Budget location. By this time they were closed, the next morning my husband went to retrive my phone at first they told him they did not find a cell phone, until my husband stated that the phone's location was exactly where he was standing (Avis/Budget) all of a sudden they were able to produce my cell phone. Mind you it was on and the SIM card was missing. My husband then had to demand my SIM card and again they were all of a sudden able to produce that as well. I filed a police report, since the phone was retrieved there wasn't much Simi PD could do. One last thing, who allows an employee wear a shirt with "shithead" written across the front of it, that deals with customer's on a face to face basis. Not representing the company's brand very well. This review is for their budget truck rental at this location. I will NEVER use budget again. I reserved a 26' truck a couple weeks in advance. We arrive morning of to "oh, our inventory manager didn't call you?" They didn't have our truck. Now we have movers arriving in an hour to start loading a truck we don't have. We start frantically calling around to find a 26' truck for a one way trip at the last minute. Very hard to find. We find one available in Agoura Hills with UHaul. I will never use budget again. How do you not tell a customer you don't have their 26' truck in advance? This isn't a sedan we're renting, we can't just go up the street to rent another. So in the end we ended up spending an extra $500 for the last minute rental plus the extra time we needed to pay the movers to be sitting around waiting for the truck. I showed up at 10:55 am to pick up the car, but the person working at the front desk said that the car wouldn't be available until 12:40. I came back at 12:40 only to realize that the car was STILL not there. It wasn't until 2:30 that the car arrived from another dealer in the area. The guy at the counter literally said " corporate have your money so they don't care" meaning because I had prepaid for my rental and they didn't have what I had requested I was basically screwed. The car they did have was disgusting. When I told him about it he says " I don't see it". Once I did accepted the vehicle shit got worse. The navigation/radio was not working. It would jump from station to station and disconnect from my Bluetooth, jump into Onstar. Shit was possessed. But it didn't stop there. The breaking system on the was was not working either.
