In spite of this, I decided to try it out anyway and rent a car from them for a 4-day family road trip, thinking "how bad can it really be?". Well, wanting to be as fair a customer as possible, I'm happy to report my experience with them was excellent. The staff there was attentive, efficient and extremely courteous. The process was fast, the price extremely competitive, and all went without any issue. I really cannot fault them for anything, except maybe that the car they lent me could have been a bit cleaner inside and out (but I'm a clean freak, so that's on me - no one else in my party complained about it). On the plus side, the tank was full from the get-go. Nice. Regarding the car itself, it was great: I was given the choice between several full-size SUV's, and I ended up picking a 2020 Infiniti QX60 for the road trip. What a great ride!

I booked early and paid ahead specifically to ensure the vehicle I needed would be waiting for us. Instead, when I arrived at the Hertz counter, I was informed that my reserved vehicle had been rented to someone else. There was no phone call, no email, and no notification that Hertz would not honor my reservation. I only found out after arriving at the rental counter with my family, ready to begin our vacation. What made an already terrible situation even worse was the complete lack of customer service. The employee behind the counter showed absolutely no empathy and offered no apology. His response was essentially, "There's nothing I can do. We have no vehicles, so move along so I can take care of other customers." That level of indifference was unbelievable. Hertz failed to honor a prepaid reservation, yet I was treated as though I was the inconvenience. Thinking customer service would make things right, I called Hertz's 800 number. Unfortunately, that experience was just as disappointing. There was no ownership of the problem, no meaningful attempt to help, and no concern whatsoever that Hertz had disrupted my family's vacation. A reservation--especially a prepaid reservation--should mean something. Hertz accepted my money, failed to provide the vehicle I reserved, failed to notify me before I arrived, and then failed to provide even the most basic level of customer service. This wasn't just an inconvenience. It wasted valuable vacation time, caused unnecessary stress, and completely changed our travel plans. I expect companies to make mistakes occasionally. What I cannot accept is the complete lack of accountability, professionalism, and concern shown by both the rental location and Hertz Customer Service. Based on this experience, I will never rent from Hertz again. There are too many rental companies that understand the importance of honoring reservations and treating customers with respect. If you're relying on Hertz for an important trip, especially if you've prepaid and reserved a specific vehicle well in advance, my experience suggests you should have a backup plan.

    Options in Camarillo are extremely limited when it comes to car rental. It's either Avis/Budget or…read moreEnterprise. When I usually get a vehicle from Avis/Budget, the gentleman who is usually behind the counter (unfortunately his name slips my mind at the moment) is very professional and there's usually no issues with my rental. Unfortunately this past weekend, I had to make a last minute reservation on Saturday night (right before the Memorial Day weekend) and Avis/Budget was the only rental place openn the following Sunday morning. Upon arrival, I was told that there was several of us who made reservations that Saturday night. I reserved my vehicle for 9AM, I arrived around 9:15. They did not have inventory and we were told to come back at 10:30 to see if any vehicles become available. I call at 10:30 and told no vehicles were returned. I was then told to attempt again at 11:30. So I call again at 11:30, then told again, nothing has come in. The following day (Monday), the location is closed. Customer Service advises me that my reservation was canceled and I would be required too make another reservation. I asked who canceled my reservation as I was not informed by the location at all that my reservation would be canceled. So, not only was I allowed to make a reservation when there should've been something in place to not allow it, especially if you're out of inventory, they canceled my reservation without even telling me that was going to happen. So I make a reservation Monday night, to pick up for Tuesday. Upon arrival, Albert who appears to be going to a sporting event (guess there's no dresscode for this location), greets me. I tell him my situation and see if there's anything he can do for the inconvenience and he couldn't explain why no one informed me about canceling my reservation, simply shrugged, and said sorry. Then, as I was I filling my paperwork, he gets to the point of where I signing off on possible damage that's on the vehicle. I've rented plenty of times here and Enterprise, and they always bring the vehicle lot and have you go over it before you sign off on damage on the car. He directed me to to to the back and check the vehicle, and of course, there's a rag in the vehicle. Customer service (besides the gentleman I mentioned), needs to be retaught at this location. I might have to just pay more for Enterprise, at least they seem to care about how they treat their customers.
