I reached out to Doug, the owner/technician, 10 days ago after receiving a referral from someone who spoke very highly of his service. Unfortunately, my experience was the complete opposite. For most of those 10 days, my calls and texts were ignored. On the few occasions he did respond, he repeatedly said he would "call me back." He never did. Not once. Doug is a very patient man. I was frantic, with a broken washing machine, and he came to repair it the same day, a Saturday. Quite naturally he needed a part, he ordered it and was back Sunday morning. He was on duty watching his two boys over the weekend. So he had Nathan, 5 years old and Lucas eight months old (and 20 pounds!) with him at my suggestion. I am 85 years old and in a wheelchair so reading Nathan Dr. Suess stories, talking about the illustrations was a big treat for me. Lucas was teething and a little fussy so I held him and gave him him his bottle. What a joy for me. I can attest to the fact that Doug is not only patient, but also a very loving father. The washing machine was beautifully repaired and the work site was immaculate. My refrigerator failed and I was sure i needed to purchase a new one at a huge cost. I saw a recommendation in a local "guide" and decided for an opinion before I abandoned it. Doug came the next morning (Saturday) and told me it could be repaired. Estinate was around $250. Very long story short, after much effort and many visits, purchase of several parts and endless labor, I was left with a refrigerator that works like new and a bill that totaled LESS than the original estinate. Douglas came out the next day, found the leak, checked everything on the stove and oven, and replaced the old tube that was leaking. As luck would have it, my dryer quit working on that weekend between Christmas and New Year's. My usual appliance repair place was closed for the holidays, as were about 4 others I called. I happened on Herz Appliances and talked to Doug. Doug was friendly, honest and reasonable. He showed up on time (actually, he adjusted his time, because I was late getting home), diagnosed the problem (broken thermostat fuse - or something like that), and had it repaired in about 15 minutes. Our old Kenmore washing machine needed a new water valve - it was dripping water into the tub after finishing the cycle. Douglas answered promptly, gave an estimate over the phone and was able to come the same day. He charged $130, which was $50 less than another over the phone estimate (most would not give an estimate). Douglas arrived on time and because he knew exactly what to do, completed the job in 30 minutes. As a bonus, Douglas is polite and professional. Strongly recommended. read more

Herz listing on Craigslist got me a service call within 2 hours when my dryer stopped drying. It got hot then just cold air. Nothing was getting dry. Instead of selling me on a new appliance, the repairman whipped out his handy extension wand with a round brush on the end - attached to an electric drill... and after a lot of whirring and a blizzard of lint poured out - he tested the dryer - and hot hot hot air came out and kept flowing! He swept up the lint and was on his way at such a low fee I Just Had to go on YELP and say this company has INTEGRITY! Hurrah for HERZ. read more

Great service, reasonable pricing and backed up warranty as promised! Doug came to reinstall my washer/dryer with great prompt service. I didn't communicate however that I wanted the condensation line connected to the drain rather than the reservoir so I asked him to come back to fix that. He came the very next day and spent 2+ hours testing all the lines to ensure they were working correctly and there was no sign of water. He even did his homework on the dryer beforehand to print out specs to ensure he installed it properly. Will definitely use again! read more

Douglas is one of the most conscientious repair people I've ever encountered. He came out to look at our refrigerator which had stopped cooling, and spent considerable time defrosting it just so our food wouldn't go bad. He later came to repair a broken heating element and, again, spent time defrosting what had built up over a couple of days and making absolutely sure everything was in working order. He also looked into another minor issue that I mentioned offhandedly while he had the refrigerator partly disassembled, and took the time to explain what went wrong. No zero stars possible? I've never written a yelp review before, and I generally give people the benefit of the doubt. "Douglas" (his real name may be "Jhonsson Hernandez" per paypal) came to fix a minor noise in our dryer 6 months ago. It immediately started making a different (and worse) noise as soon as he left. I lived with it, but then called him for a fix...I nicely did not ask for it to be a warranty job. The noise may be gone, but I can't tell because the dryer DIDN'T EVEN START AFTER HE WAS DONE WITH IT. When I tried to reach him, I experienced the same lying as yelp user "Sharelle". He finally came back, said it was fixed but when I got home and it still didn't work. Then...radio silence. I now have to replace the dryer and (and washer unfortunately because of the space constraint). So...long story short, a minor squeak turned into a $1300 replacement of both units. Doug is unfortunately nice (at first) but totally incompetent and his business practice (3 month warranty?) is false. He has now disappeared completely, despite my reasonable offer that he simply reimburse me for labor...I'd even pay for the wasted parts! Do_NOT_be_tempted_to_use_this_guy. You might get lucky (like some yelp users have), but if something goes wrong he will disappear like a ghost in the night. I suspect he is no longer operating in Marin, as his CL ad is no longer showing. Douglas- I dare you to man up and call me....I'll be reasonable. These folks are the real deal. They know their machines! They were honest, dependable, ON TIME, arrived when they said they were going to arrive. Helpful, courteous and really cared about our situation. They charged exactly what was agreed upon. The charge for diagnostic "look see" was CHEAP $20.00, before they looked to see what the problem actually was and then quoted what the repair would be. Found this company on Craigslist, doing a search for local SF washer/dryer repairmen... From the time I first called in to schedule an appointment, he was at my house within an hour, just as promised. He was very professional and he quickly troubleshooted my dryer problem, went to the hardware store around the corner from my house, and was back to work on it. After about 45 minutes (although it seemed way quicker than that), he came upstairs to tell me my dryer was working again! I tried it out, and it dries like brand-new! I am so glad I decided to call! He even took away an old, broken dryer that I had sitting off to the side of my house, which I had been meaning to take to the dumps. Turns out he can use it for parts, and he agreed to come back in a couple days when his truck was empty, & haul it away! Awesome!!!ll Great, prompt, professional service! Our refrigerator stopped working. I found Douglas on Craig's list. I called at 2:00pm on Friday of Labor Day Weekend. He came over at 5:30pm as promised for a free estimate. We bought our place a few years ago and did not know how old the refrigerator was. Douglas spent 15 minutes or more reseraching the problem. He determined that the coolant was out and that it was not worth replacing. WOW! It is very surprising in these days to find honest people. We can't recommend Jhonsson at Herz Appliances enough. We discovered our washing machine had a leak, and Jhonsson came by in a timely manner to assess the situation and do the repair. He was extremely courteous, professional, and thorough with his work. From beginning to end, he was straightforward and honest in his interactions with us, and we were really impressed with how efficient he was on the job and how reasonable his prices were. He also does repair work with dryers, dishwashers, stoves, and refrigerators, as well as other kitchen electronics, and we will absolutely be calling him again when those repairs are needed. When I called him to ask him if he was coming he had NO recollection of setting the appointment at all, just 2 or 3 days after HE picked the appointment time.
