I was really wanting to find some coffeeshops to lock in on a Saturday late afternoon / early evening, and Hexe really came through for me. I thought their ambiance was really cool with the dark academic, black vibes. I ended up getting a tea since it was later in the day, but my friend said that his coffee was also quite good--I will need to get that in the future. What really impressed me was the cookie. Everything in the pastry case looked and sounded super yummy, so I caved and got their Chocolate Chip Cookie. It was SUCH a good cookie. It had the perfect texture, both crunchy and soft, and had such a well done combination of flavors. I loved the tahini and sea salt paired with the chocolate. It's a great environment for studying as well. They have a lot of tables, as well as outlets and Wi-Fi. The only drawback is that the tables are super close together, but it was still a good place to lock in. I will be coming back for sure!

I'd heard good things about this coffee shop and finally checked it out. Parking was a bit of a struggle and the place was pretty packed, but the coffee itself was solid. I also tried one of the best peanut butter cookies I've had in a long time The employee was helpful, and there were tables and seating both indoors and outdoors. They offer the option to spike your drink with a variety of options to choose from, which was a fun touch. Prices felt about average overall. Worth a visit. Just be ready to hunt for parking!

I was sad that i didn't get to try the baked goodies from Hexe-- especially when they have a cookie the size of my face. It's such an amazing place to come hang out on a sunny weekend morning. They have indoor as well as outdoor seating. Tried their seasonal spring latte with fennel and orange and absolutely loved it. Didn't expect to.. but it was amazing!

Great location to sit and work or visit with friends. Met a friend for a mid day catch up and the place was packed. We had the Garden Me sandwich and it's delicious. I had the chai latte and it was very good. Street parking is available

This was a really cool cafe that we stumbled upon while exploring the neighborhood. Simple menu for the coffee options and I tried their seasonal drink which was the biscoff latte, quite perfect but a bit on the sweet side. There's also alcohol option for someone who just want to chill and grab a drink.

Very chic coffee and cocktail cafe. Love the vibe!!! I went for coffee and did not realize they served cocktails as well. The cocktail menu was intriguing and will definitely draw me back. The espresso drinks were as good as it gets. The indoor seating is chic and comfy but it looks like there's outside seating in summer as well.

Hexe.... coffee and cocktails extraordinaire! I've been a handful of times over the years for coffee, lunch, cocktails on the patio, and even events, and it's always great. The coffee is quality- I've never had a bad drink. The pastries are good, and the one sandwich I've tried (turkey/brie on baguette, no longer on the menu) was stellar. Looking at the cocktail menu, it's super inventive and fun for a coffee shop, so I looove that! Vibes are pretty chill. It's a dark, almost emo vibe (skull pastries?! Lol) with a modern twist. Comfy for working or chatting with friends, inside or outside on their super nice patio. There was a pop up event happening on the patio today- I like that they do local events to keep giving us reasons to come by :) Will def continue to come back!

This cafe was fine. I could barely taste the vanilla latte and do not come here if you're working from home/have meetings. They crank up the music pretty loud. The WiFi is pretty unreliable and I had to use my hotspot. Not to mention it's super cold bc they crank the ac but the outdoor area was nice. It seems like there's a lot of customers at this place. The chocolate croissant was just fine. Although, I wish there was a little more chocolate

I came to this place on a whim. I always see it when I'm on the bus and was interested in trying it out eventually. Inside has black walls which I actually like. It reminds me of a saloon a bit. The bar is quite large and they also serve alcohol which is a plus. On weekends they have pizza slices. They are pet friendly and have a nice spacious patio! I got the iced latte with vanilla syrup. The coffee is pretty strong so I would definitely come back here in the morning when I need it most. They have merch available for purchase such as shirts,tote bags and glasses. They also have 5 pound bags of coffee if you want to make their coffee at home. Lastly the staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Needed a quick coffee before heading out and stopped at Hexe. I ordered a cold brew plain and it was very smooth. Line moved quickly and the service was superb. Chill vibe inside and an outdoor patio you can also enjoy. Had a great breakfast menu with sandwiches and pastries. Next time I will have to try!

We came by for some coffee before going to an event in the area. The location is located on the corner of a block, where it is easily accessible while walking but unfortunately parking is rather tough in the area. There is seating outside, and inside. The inside has a modern vibe and has dark walls and decor to match. We came by around 4pm in the afternoon and found that it was rather busy already, likely for happy hour. They offer a variety of cocktails and brews (both coffee and alcoholic!) We decided to take our items to go, with this trip I got a cold brew and a chai. Both of which were great in flavor and gave us a great pick me up. For our baked goods, we got the ham and cheese roll, cheddar bacon biscuit and share a chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was chicken salad and had ghardinara in it on sour dough bread. It was toasted and had so much flavor. Such a simple sandwich but it was great and memorable. THe ham and cheese roll was super flavorful as well, imagine a cinnamon room but instead of all the sweet you got ham and gruyere cheese in a roll. Highly recommend. All in all we had a great experience! Would definitely come back when in the area.

I was a first timer at Hexe this weekend. I got a hot, caramel latte with oat milk. It was very good and creamy. Perfect amount of everything. I think I would get extra hot next time, but I definitely want to come back. The bakery items looked amazing and I want to try happy hour. Cool, person coffee house vibes were there. It's edgy but still cozy and intimate. I recommend! read more

Pros: Love the ambiance/atmosphere of the shop. They play great music at a good volume for getting work done. The coffee is great. They have a nice selection of all your standard drinks, plus some interesting things like whiskey barrel cold brew. The staff was kind and welcoming. Cons: I'm a HUGE dog person, but I don't think they should be allowed *inside* cafes/restaurants where food is served. I was happily working at the bar until a girl came in with an absolutely massive Bernese moutnain dog came in and sat next to me at the bar. She was being really obnoxious, like, "Haha sorry! Look at me with my huge dog! So quirky don't worry he's nice!" Loving the attention of having this massive $3000 designer dog in the cafe. I found it extremely distracting and unsanitary while I ate my bagel to have this girl petting, playing with, whistling at, giving treats to, and baby talking this humongous/loudly panting dog at my feet. I'm all for dogs on the patio but inside is just... No. Shouldn't be allowed at a place serving food. Especially since dog allergies are so common. Won't be coming back for this reason. My breakfast bagel was nicely constructed and I enjoyed the jam, however, I found it to be excessively greasy. Draining the bacon or patting it down between the griddle & sandwich would have done wonders. Overall, I really like this place, but I'm bummed about the indoor dog policy. (This OF COURSE excludes any service dogs!) I understand if someone needs to bring their leashed pup in to order, but they should stay on the patio. I say this as an owner of three amazing dogs. Leave the pups at home if you need to sit inside. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in the city. Love the vibes here and the staff are always so welcoming and friendly. I am such a fan of Dina's pastries - everything she makes is out of this world. If you get a chance, just get one of everything while you're there. And get a bag of the Blood Witch beans while you're at it. They also host cool events throughout the month and have held a couple community fundraisers so far. Great folks over at Hexe. Definitely check it out! read more

Great for afternoon coffee or morning date with wife. I recommend the gre²ens, cheese and egg sandwhich. An original vibe - ecclectic, classy, artistic and down to earth. Their tea is nothing special. But, I'll come back with a laptop to do some work soon. read more

Super chic & unique place. My friend brought me here the first week that it opened & we've been back 2 times since. They have an awesome pastry selection, as well as quick savory bites like bagels. They have a barrel aged bourbon cold brew in addition to the normal cold brew, which I've never come across before at any of the other coffee places I frequent in Chicago. The barrel aged cold brew has an oaky bourbon taste. Definitely a cool spin on a basic cold brew. They also have an inpressive beer menu stocked with lots of popular local beers. Come check out this new gem! There is plenty of seating, & it is an awesome place to come & get work done. read more

Just what this area needed! Cute and local coffee shop where you can catch up with friends over coffee or wine. The decor is modern and elegant. The employees are super friendly. I enjoy the matcha latte and the puff pastry! The pastry was so good I had it twice in one week. I really enjoyed the Irish coffee as well. This place offers WiFi and milk alternatives such as oat and almond, but not coconut. This place is super charming and adds a lot of vibrancy to the neighborhood. read more

It's very fun for me to see this upscale cafe in the neighborhood I used to call home some years ago, in a location that used to be within a public housing complex. The march of gentrification continues, and this shop does a lot right. Beans roasted on site, offers both coffee and adult beverages, depending on your mood and time of day. The craft coffee drinks and teas are very good. Free parking behind the cafe is a plus! This is a definite stop when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I recently tried Hexe Coffee Co.'s cold brew coffee boneshaker bourbon. First of all, horrible name. But couldn't be nearly as horrible as the taste of this coffee itself. The idea seems fashionable but the results are horrendous. Other words that come to mind are "hot ass". I wish I could describe in more detail the taste of this horrible cold brew, but it's so bad I don't want to take another sip. Heed my advice, this $5 cute little bottle is not worth it. My wallet and bones are shaking with disappointment. read more

Very friendly staff and quick service, delicious coffees and variety of fun cocktails as well. Lots of seating too, even outside. They have a large front patio. Parking is street parking only though, because the pkg lot adjacent to the coffee house says only for the apartments next door. I didn't notice any spaces specific for Hexe, unless I missed them. read more

I love the minimalistic atmosphere-- dark walls, black chairs, and marble tables. I ordered a latte with lavender syrup and oat milk and it's one of the best lavender lattes I have ever had. I was so happy that there were parking spots available right behind the coffee shop. The staff was super friendly, too. read more

I struggled between giving this 3 or 4 stars. I've tried coffee all over and I was expecting great coffee here and it just wasn't the best, I'd rather go elsewhere. However- the pastries were great! I got the seasonal scone and it was delicious and the other food looked tasty too (I struggled to choose what I wanted!). Prices were good for what you got. I also liked the service and the outdoor patio is really cute and nice for a summer or fall day. read more

WHAT A GEM. I have tried so many coffee shops with the hope of finding a great matcha latte in Chicago and FINALLY a place where the matcha doesn't just taste like milk. I ordered a matcha almond latte and it didn't disappoint. You can tell they aren't stingy with their matcha which I appreciate and for $6 I was extremely happy. The matcha was well blended and not chunky, it wasn't bitter, and tasted of quality. Their pastries are also fantastic. We had a cheddar bacon biscuit, a cheese ham roll (this had mustard inside which made it that much better), and an almond bar (I can't remember the name but so good & not too sweet). They don't warm up the pastries which was a bummer but nevertheless, they are sooooo bomb. I do wish they were closer to me because I'd probably go at least twice a week to do work as they have a decently large dining room. Can't wait to come back and try other things on their menu! read more

Had a bad experience and left a bad review. The owner kind of stalked me until he heard me say my name as I ordered for me and my kids. He immediately confronted me in front of other customers calling me by my name and saying, "hey you're (first and last name) and you gave us a bad review!" Clearly trying to embarrass me. I said, "shouldn't you be asking what happened and how you can make it right instead of confronting me and making everyone in here uncomfortable?" He then realized what a jacka$$ he was and told me he was sorry and that every time I come back to ask for him for a free coffee. Absolutely no way I'm doing that. The ambiance is great and so are some of the staff. For the rest of the staff, it's not actually a grave yard or a haunted house, you're not special even if you're in a band and have 2 other bartending jobs - so just be nice to the families coming in here. I actually look for any reason to take my family to any other coffee shop in the area to happily spend $80 in 10 mins on 4 drinks, 4 bakery items, and 25% gratuity for a little politeness. read more

Looking for a great place to work, socialize, and spend the day? .... Look no further! Iced oat milk lattes are incredibly smooth, and the light roast black coffee has a healthy amount of acidity. You don't want to miss their homemade pop tarts or breakfast sandwiches (biscuits available until they run out) when you're looking for a great bite first in the morning. read more

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff, tried the cinnamon roll, barrel aged cold brew, matcha and a latte and was exceedingly impressed with each item! The bakery items and scones all are made in-house and look delicious. Great local spot, very clean and cute decor. They have an easily accessible parking lot and tons of space for indoor and outdoor dining. They also offer a punch card buy 8 get one free which is always a fun bonus! read more

Hexe's Coffee is coffee shop by day and bar by night. Inside, it's modern with lots of black - what I would describe as sophisticated goth. How fancy are the marble tables? To me, the darker lighting and louder conversations makes it better for group meetings and socializing than your traditional coffee shop. They had a wide open patio seating, which would be great for summer. I didn't realize they were known for their uniquely barrel aged coffees and missed out on my visit so I can't speak for the taste. Since I like introverting in quiet coffee shops, Hexe's level of noise and crowds on a weekday afternoon wasn't the best fit for my preference. The set-up seems to have more of the bar crowd in mind. read more

No, they aren't. I talked to the owner about it, and he says that they feel like since they have the outdoor seating, it wouldn't be worth the risk to the employees health to open up indoors.

The egg type was not clarified on the menu, but I feel like for a breakfast sandwich to include a boiled egg instead of a traditional fried or scrambled egg, that should be disclosed to customers with some sort of expectations. My friend said the cappuccino was "just like every other cappuccino I've ever had." The lavender matcha really just tasted like a regular matcha. It was good but not much lavender flavor! Our food also took a bit to come out, despite the coffee shop being empty (only one other person already dining when we came in) and what we ordered. It looked like there were only two workers. I personally wouldn't visit Sipping Turtle Cafe again, unfortunately. There are a lot of other great options around that satisfy me more.

History: Been a patron of this place for years. The great stuff: Food and pastries are absolutely great. The ok stuff: Coffee drinks are alright. Good, but not great. The staff is alright. Not exactly really happy to serve you but they're not outright rude either. I love talking to people and ask how they're doing, etc, and I usually get a "Mm hmm fine." when I stop by. Why I'm leaving a one-star review: 4-5 months ago I noticed one of their employees had a face mask with symbols of "Antifa" printed on it. Antifa is a political terrorist group which employs methods of violence, intimidation, false information, (i.e. elements of fascism), in order to purportedly be "anti" fascist. I cannot and will not support a business that employs people who openly support political violence and domestic terrorism. Antifa is responsible for billions of dollars of property damage since 2016. Innocent people have been killed or been permanently maimed by Antifa members. There have been thousands of casualties. For clarity, I would also not support a business that employed political terrorists of the Right. This is about ethics and how I am no longer supporting these types of radical ideologies and the businesses that harbor these cancerous elements to our once great society. The owner or other workers know who I'm talking about. If that person no longer works there (if they quit, was arrested, or their parents cut off their allowance), then I will change my review to more accurately reflect my opinions on the business' products and services alone. Rolled into Hexe Coffee Co. in Roscoe Village and shelled out roughly $11 for an iced mocha and a mixed berry/white chocolate scone. The iced mocha was top-tier--rich, chocolatey, and perfectly chilled for a warm day; seriously one of the best I've had in Chi‑town. The scone was moist and loaded with juicy berry flavor and pockets of white chocolate--just sweet enough without being heavy. The staff were super welcoming and helped me pick a good sunny patio seat--great place to slow down and chat or dive into some work . I will say the prices skews a bit high for frequent visits, but the quality, vibe, and cozy outdoor setup make it worth splurging once in a while. I heard about Hexe on WGN and knew I had to go. Drove all the way from St. Charles for a cup of coffee and a pastry. Well worth the drive! The space has a very cool vibe. I love it when all ages can feel comfortable in the same space. Hexe accomplishes this. I had heard about how wonderful the pastries were and they did not disappoint. Stopped in a few weeks ago to get a coffee while in town. Atmosphere was amazing, vanilla latte was great and you could tell the flavor was homemade. Tasted the bourbon cold brew which was interesting and good. My boyfriend got an americano and had no complaints. Music was really good. I wish we had a spot like this in Los Angeles.
