Overall I really enjoyed my time at the Tommie. I was here for about a week helping facilitate an event. The banquet staff was very helpful, and even gave me their numbers to keep in touch throughout the event days if we needed anything. In terms of the hotel itself, the rooms while tiny are very comfortable. The bed was super comfy. The people are so kind, from bellboy's to front desk, valet, and people helping on the event side of things. Everyone's willing to help if you just ask. I'd say the only downside here is two things. The noise... I am such a light sleeper and being so close to 6th street was a bit of an issue for me :) I did use the ear plugs provided and they helped a little. Things seemed to quiet down between midnight and 1 am which was good. Also the room has a slight smell when I arrived (I'm not sure if maybe it's because it's a dog friendly hotel I think - I heard dogs barking on my floor, and I do love dogs so no complaints there. After the first day the room smelled pretty fresh. The pros absolutely outweighed the cons for me here though. And I'd absolutely stay here again. read more

This hotel prides itself on being trendy and minimalist and industrial. But really it's just hip and cheap. They don't let customers use the ice machine - you have to call downstairs for a bucket of ice. The rooms are tiny and have no mini fridge. The cool thing is the trendy restaurant upstairs with a pool and great Mexican food and drinks. They have a great gym but that's only because part of this building is permanent apartments. But I wouldn't pay to stay here again cause you get so little just to have 4 restaurant in the hotel. read more

Check in was easy, drop car with valet for $69/night but walked right in and got our keys. The room was very tiny. The large curtain wouldn't open so no view available to see downtown or get natural light the next morning. There was a Nespresso machine which was great but only one cup. The bathroom shower combo was dangerous and strange. A shower wall that is just glass all around so no privacy when taking a shower as you could see the person in the shower from the bed. It was strange. And the bathroom, again, shared with shower made the entire floor wet as the drain for the shower is in the middle of the space and very close proximity to the toilet.. I wouldn't stay here again. Maybe best for one person but I wouldn't even go back alone to be honest. Disappointing for sure. read more

Marriott loyalist here, but went off-brand due to availability. The Good: -Super friendly staff and quick check-in -Very chic design with a splash of Restoration Hardware -Prime walking location for DT Austin hot spots -Likely the best hotel gym I've ever encountered (excluding resorts). 2x Smith machines, full dumbbell rack, handful of cable machines, and an array of spin bikes, stair masters, and treadmills. The Not so Good: -Being such a prime location, you will inevitably hear 6th Street. Overall not terrible, and they do offer ear plugs. -Rooms are definitely small, and reminded me of hotels in Manhattan. For more than a couple days, I may look to stay elsewhere. As a warning, the Tommie would not be my first choice if traveling with my GF. The space and layout isn't very practical, but it's fun for one person during a short trip (see pics). read more

Paid $170 a night for goverment rate and was impressed they offered this rate. I've stayed at the Fairmont and The Indigo and in town and these hotel is by far the best. The decor, amenities and service is superior and being so close to 6th street was a big plus. I had a king room with city view on the 5th floor and I loved it! The hotel room was very spacious and open. The design/ layout of the room was unique but amazing. 10/10. Got to check in early at noon so that was big plus for me. Another work trip to Austin allowed me to check out a hotel I'd never been to. The Tommie is cute, chic, and centrally located. I didn't stay in the room much, aside from sleeping and getting ready for work events, but it is comfortable for what it is. Although I'm speaking from the perspective of a petite person, I didn't find the place too tight or cramped, as other reviews mentioned. It's not as thoughtfully designed a small space like hotels in Japan are, but there are built-in drawers in the bed frame and a closet/seating area.  What impressed me most was the fitness center. It had multiple treadmills, rowers, stationary bikes, and even a heavy bag with gloves. (I wish I'd known sooner, or I would've brought my own and hand wraps.) The only downside is that the one refillable water station is on that floor. Yes, this hotel is smack dab in the hubbub of 6th Street. However, the folks who planned the hotel provided earplugs and an alarm clock with a built-in noise machine with 3 to 4 sound options. I had no issues getting sleep by just upping that puppy's volume. Overall, it was a good stay. The staff was welcoming and delightful during checkout. I forgot to do the QR code/text system to get my car from the valet before heading outside, but it's also not a huge deal. You wait 15 mins- if that. read more

We really love our stay at the Tommie. All the shared amenities with the Thompson were top notch! The pool was exceptional with beautiful downtown Austin views. We grabbed a drink at the 4th floor restaurant and headed out to the pool after dinner. So relaxing chilling under the stars. The rooms are smaller but they are very efficiently laid out. We received a corner room with two walls of windows on the 14th floor. Request a corner! The parking was tough but to be expected in downtown Austin. Instead of paying $62 a night for valet, we used The SpotHero app and found a secured parking garage 1 block away for $26 a night. We will be back! read more

The staff and everyone I encountered was great and very nice. However, it was hard to sleep at night. The AC was extremely loud and would make a rattling sound every 15 min and sounded like someone was knocking on my door. I also wish there were a towel hook in the bathroom. By Far... WORST customer service ever! I'll tell you the 7-Eleven across the street has better customer service, the "barista" at their coffee shop might do you the favor of making a coffee while asking for a 50%tip, at the bar, the bar tender will let you simmer for 15 minutes before making eye Contact and this is for a $25 drink with it's proper $6 tip as well. You could be sitting at the pool for one hour before seeing a waiter and good luck getting your order in. I did ask for a late checkout through their txt system, of course no answer ever, then when i called... they gave me the "option" of paying $30 extra to allow me to stay all the way until NOON! Ridiculous!!! The pool is always full so no place to sit Car valet? 20 minutes to retrieve your car while charging an extraordinary $60 plus tax (and tips) Every time I passed by the front desk, it was me who greeted them. It seems to me there is a culture of mistreating the clients here, as if we'd appreciate the attitude. I did not, and neither will you. Everything just feels so cramped. - No fridge in room. No ice machine so if you need ice, then you're going to have to call the front desk. First time I stayed here the size of the room, lack of fridge and proximity to all the hustle and bustle of 6th didn't bother me so much. Everything was outstanding, especially the staff. From the check-in process (fast!) to the Aribata restaurant & bar, from the event personnel to housekeeping...I have ZERO complaints. Loved our overnight stay at Tommie Austin. Arrived late but Terry at the front desk checked us in quickly and efficiently. He acknowledged our Hyatt status, upgraded us to a top floor quiet room pool view and gave us 2 chips for 2 margaritas at Wax Myrtle bar on the 4th floor. Tommie is in the same building as Thompson Hotel, they share the same facilities, pool and check in area. We were in room 1416, very cozy, and it quickly reminded us of Marriott's Moxy hotel rooms. We slept well, enjoyed the strong shower pressure and cold AC to beat the Austin heat. Location is perfect for bar hopping on 6th street! Thank you Allison for reminding us of the 2pm checkout! The Thompson is one of my top hotels to stay at. I love the vibe, it's clean, and the staff are always very friendly. The Tommie is no exception! You get the same perks of The Thompson just a smaller room because it is targeted for solo travelers. We only stayed one night so the smaller room was perfect for us. If you are not a solo traveler or you are staying longer than one night I definitely recommend staying at The Thompson. Both hotels are under one roof; the Tommie is just to the left of the elevators (when you step out) and the Thompson is to the right. The pool area was very small but it was a nice view and had a good ambiance! If you want a pool chair you should go early in the day because there really is no place to lay your things otherwise. One side of the pool is pool loungers and the other side is reserved pool beds. They definitely needed more pool attendants because the service was kind of slow so we went to the bar directly for our drinks. read more

For the money and location this hotel is an excellent addition to the Hyatt Brand, with that said it's not for everyone, but the more luxurious and traditional Thompson Hotel is in the same building of the Thommie as an alternative. The check in process is at the hotel coffee/wine bar, not to be confused with the Thompson front desk which is 10 feet away from the coffee bar. Coffee ($5.00 a cup) and wine are available for purchase. There is a normal hotel front desk, but that is the Thompson lobby, not the Thommie. Kind of confusing as there are two different hotels that essentially share the same space. The rooms reminded me of a tiny house because it was small, yet cleverly designed to maximize space. Essentially the incredibly comfortable king size bed takes up most of the room and the toilet is in the same area as the shower. As a solo traveler the toilet in the shower concept did not bother me, but could be problematic for people sharing a room. The bed itself was an A+ for comfort, my shower lacked pressure, but they just opened and are working out a few kinks. The restaurants and pool were not open at the time of this review, but the gym was. This was by far the most expansive and state of the art gym I've ever seen at any hotel. Peloton bikes, a full weight room,TRX station, and top of the line Cybex equipment. The gym is 6 out of 5 stars. I believe the gym will be shared by a residential tower and of course the Thompson. I would stay here again for the gym alone. Great hotel, especially as a solo traveler, but has its quirks. read more

Pros: The service by the staff is some of the best I have ever had!!!!! The restaurants, bar, and coffee shop have pretty decent prices. The bar does a happy hour from 4-5 which includes $2 oysters. The location is great if you're staying for a conference at the convention center. Cons: The rooms are really, really, small for the price you pay. The toilet and shower are literally in the same closet. I would stay here again but I was a little shocked by the size of the room. It was very clean and nice, but tiny! Rooms: at the tommie they are small but cozy. Great option if you don't intend to spend much time in your room. Location: it's close to the loudest section of 6th street, great if that's what you're looking for but not great if you want some peace. Service: quite disappointing. Calling the front desk or room service from the room almost always took 3-5 calls to get someone to answer. Food service order was "lost" twice which caused us to wait over 2 hours for our breakfast order. I'm not sure if they are short staffed but the service was primary factor in the star rating. With all of the great hotel option in Austin, I won't be coming back. read more

Great hotel right off 6th Street. Checking in was a breeze. Front desk staff very nice. It rained during our stay, we were offered umbrellas to borrow. Very clean hotel. We stayed on the Tommie side. Small European style room. The free drinks weren't drinkable. The pool area is nice. Wax Myrtles has a nice sitting area outside too. Market restaurant for grab and go snacks. Everything you need. I hope this saves someone hassle and money. They have literally shrunk all of the livable space out of these rooms, and all that's left is a bed for you to cry yourself to sleep. The rooms are so small that there is no place to put your luggage without bumping into it. No table, drawers, counter space, nothing. There is no bathroom. There is a glass shower with a toilet in it. Turning the light on to go to the bathroom at night lights up the whole room. The sink is out in the room right next to the bed. The coffee station, or rather, the water kettle, is on a tray on the bed and you have to put it on the floor to sleep. My wife and I cannot get over how small and impractical this room is. If we weren't with a group we'd change hotels. It's fine for one person. read more

I'll never stay here again, and I'm only halfway through my stay :( Pros: Great location, extremely clean rooms, no carpet, luxury feel. Tommie side rooms are tiny but thoughtfully laid out. I want to love it SO MUCH. But the valet and staff make this hotel an absolute waste of money. Parking is $55/night, which is ... ya know, not great, but that's okay. The first morning, I waited about 20 minutes for my car. Which made me late to my meeting. But they were busy, so totally fine. That afternoon, I texted the valet 15 minutes early so my car would be ready. I got a text almost 20 minutes later saying there were no valets available. So I walked down to the stand and THREE valets were standing there. They apologized, but it was almost 40 minutes of waiting total. And again, late for my meeting even though I planned ahead. I have never complained (hi, I'm an introvert ), but I felt like the management should know ... and all four front desk workers looked at me like I was crazy. One guy said valet is a third party vendor so they can't help. Another said I was supposed to call the front desk, and he "didn't know anything" about a texting service. Another asked to see the valet card and then read me the instructions ... which I followed to a T :) I'm not an idiot. They just treated me like one. I get that it was a mistake by the valet company ... twice? But it ruined my entire experience. And you can't really charge $55 parking for over an hour of waiting in just one day. My time is worth more. Literally lol Not being able to get my car, then treated like a "stupid woman" when I followed every direction ... I'll never come back. I cried recounting the story because I felt so silly. I travel to Austin for work every month, and I'll be going back to Arrive. It's the best if you need an alternative. ‍ read more

Staff was fine, but when you have to walk halfway across the room to wash your hands after using the bathroom - (no sink in bathroom) - how ridiculous is that? "Mini Bar" was a bottom drawer with no refrigeration much less items for purchase - just a drawer! In the last 25 years I've stayed in teeny weenie Manhattan hotel rooms but never once have I been required to physically crawl across a king bed to manipulate the drapes because a column that protrudes into the room blocks the way. Why Hyatt thinks anyone would be ok with this arrangement, especially for $300, is a mystery. This room should be a housekeeping closet. I'll never stay here again and am thinking of never staying at Hyatt properties again because of their greed and lack of consideration for their guests. Disgusting. Update next day: came back to my room exhausted after a long day. No maid service. The Tommie only has it every other day so if you're staying for two nights you're out of luck. $300/night and I get to make my own bed. Hyatt has lost it's mind. I stayed for a last-minute vacation. I usually use Travelocity, but I booked for the wrong week due to my mistake. When we arrived, the staff were very helpful, but the price was significantly different--how much? I did not expect it. There was no free parking as advertised. The room was clean, but the bathroom design could use more privacy. The breakfast buffet did not suggest the price. When the bill came, we could have ordered room service for what I paid. Plus, ALL I had was coffee; I should not have been charged 25.00 for that. The valet counter needs to learn of area attractions or the distances to restaurants. I would only recommend it if it is at the last minute. read more

Great hotel, we've stayed multiple times and will continue to return. The staff is always friendly and willing to go above and beyond, and every time we have stayed there the check in and check out process has gone smoothly. The rooms are small, which is the only downside, but for me personally that doesn't affect my stay enough to lower the rating. I can see how it would for some, as there isn't much space to unpack and would be cramped sharing with a family or friends. The gym, bar, and on site restaurants are all great and there are gluten free options for breakfast as well which is always a major perk! read more

I'm a bit shocked with these reviews, as you truly get what you pay for here. Since the Thompson was fully booked, I went with the tommie mainly for the location and ability to access the same amenities. The tommie is brand new, clean, has great amenities and restaurants. I received really great customer service too from Liz and Jesse at the front desk (coffee/wine bar area). Truly a really great experience if you're not planning to be in your room as much! When entering the hotel, the Thompson door is on the left and the tommie is on the right. I was greeted immediately upon check-in, and also received a complimentary upgrade without even prompting. The room was pretty spacious based on reviews and the room overlooked the pool area. Pretty cool concept and would stay at another tommie in the future. Wax Myrtle's is on the 4th floor of this hotel, and I'm a huge fan of this restaurant. I could eat the whipped feta and chicken everyday given the opportunity. Same chef as Aba if you've been to one of the locations in Chicago or Austin (SoCo). The pool and gym were also great perks as well as the diner bar on the 1st floor. Definitely give it a shot if you're traveling solo or with your significant other/friend. I'll definitely be back! read more

The rooms are insanely small for what you're paying. Yes, the dimensions are given when booking, but it feels like a closet when you're inside. This is TX, not NY. No privacy in the bathroom, and horrible lighting. Don't even try to do your makeup in there. Also, there's no outlet by the bathroom mirror so you have to sit on the floor in a separate area to blow dry your hair. Do not stay here. read more

Staff was great everywhere from the front desk, valet, bell hop or whatever the appropriate title is, and the diner. I received excellent service. I was traveling alone, meeting friends in Austin and it was a great stay. It can be noisy on 6th Street and you are right there but it was no issue for me. They offer ear plugs if it is for you. First let me say this is the smallest hotel room I've ever had! It is so small the toilet is in the shower. The desk shares the same space as the sink for the bathroom. He gets a three because it has great air conditioning. The master light switch is at the door Which turns on the light in the bathroom and you can't turn it off from anywhere else. So to go to bed at night you have to go turn off the switch and then stumble back in the dark. Just once I would like a hotel designer to stay in his/her room that he/she designs. read more

Beware predatory hidden fees: I was charged a $35 "resort fee" that was not disclosed to me before booking, during check-in or during check-out. Came here for the Austin marathon and had a terrible experience. They should have prepared for the increase in business with such a large event happening a block away from them. The "coffee bar" does not have coffee, when you order a coffee they put espresso over ice and charge you $9. The employees did not seem properly trained on the espresso machine and they were very flustered. My friend ordered a latte and the espresso tasted burnt. Customer service was non-existent, the employees seemingly annoyed by our presence. Would not recommend. read more
