Decided to pop in after being in the area and it was also too long since my last review here. I came in at lunch hour and it was popping. On the hottest day, I sat outside, but the fans kept the air moving so it wasn't terrible. Joseph attended to me quickly and was excited to serve me despite the heat. I ordered the steak bite appetizer and the mahi mahi tacos with fries. The steak bites were flavorful and the sautéed onions amazing. Perfect appetizer for two. The mahi mahi tacos were simply beautiful. All the flavors came through from the housemate tortilla, grilled mahi mahi to the citrus marinade and pickled onions. I do think the avocado cream got forgotten but I asked for it and Joseph brought me some. I added it to the second taco and it elevated. The crema has a little kick that is just perfect. I also consider myself a picky French fry eater. I'm more a frite fan than fry fan. Maybe it's the tallow, but these fries were wonderfully crispy and well salted. I highly recommend this meal! Overall, a great meal with great service by Joseph. It is always a mood booster to be around people that are in great spirits and do their job well. read more

When it came to the starters, the ordering menu online states the portions could feed 3-4 people. I thought, "Great! reasonably priced starters that can feed an entire family." However, once I received the starters, I felt the portions were much smaller than expected. In my opinion, the charred campfire chicken could feed one person, while the cochinita nachos could feed two. I will say the charred campfire chicken was juicy and had a nice charred texture. The white bbq aioli and smoked corn slaw were delicious and paired nicely with the chicken. Unfortunately, the cochinita nachos were very disappointing and, honestly the worst nachos I've had at a restaurant. The nachos are the primary reason for my two star rating. The Mexican pulled pork contained a few fatty pieces, and the Jack cheese was unevenly dumped throughout the nachos in large chunks. The bottom of the plate was also soaking in grease from the cheese. I've never experienced this with nachos at another restaurant, and I would think the excess grease would be drained so the chips at the bottom aren't left sitting in it. I noticed that most guests were ordering their small burgers and fries, so I may return to try those or possibly order another chicken dish. read more

Solid experience. We ended up here right before a concert earlier this week (quick trip from San Antonio). We made reservations and even received a text EARLY that our table was ready. Good start. Summer was a fantastic server. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive given she was overloaded with tables having taken on another section. Service trailed off a tad toward the end, which was the worst timing as we were trying to get to the concert. As for the food: no complaints all around. I thought their corn side was very good (I don't typically like corn), their broccoli was good. I didn't try their brussel sprouts, but my wife and in laws raved about them. My entree was the bunless bison burger with mashed potatoes and broccoli. I ordered the bison medium, but what came out was an overdone, crumbly patty held together by the melted cheese on top. I also felt their mashed potatoes were just okay. Although I I was disappointed in my meal, the ambiance, location, and experience of the rest of my party pushed it just over to the 4th star. Hg Sply is located right above the Trinity River in the Westbend shopping area, it provides a relax atmosphere compared to high traffic area you have to navigate to get here, and serves up some delicious meals while doing so. Our server Joseph brought energy, enthusiasm and friendliness to the meal, we chose Nachos as a starter and Mahi Mahi tacos (2) which we split the fish was light and fresh and the slaw went well with it , I would have preferred less slaw and a touch more Mahi. The Nachos on the other hand were more than we couls even attempted to finish though delicious and well prepared we boxed 60% for the trusty air fryer later in the day. read more

The food was good, I tried the devil avocados for the first time, it was a decent portion and filled me up. I ordered a hunted falafel bowl to go with broccoli and mashed potatoes, as I needed to order an entree too. Service was a little slow at first due to issues with their system going down. The rice is perfect, but they put a slab of tuna on top with hardly any spicy flavor. Would like to see them chop up the tuna and add more spice like typical sushi spots. My dad asked for grilled onion on the side of his burger but got raw. Besides that there are no complaints. The Mahi mahi tacos are delicious and packed with flavor. Our service was great this entire experience. She was really nice and helpful. The bison meatball appetizers were excellent! The marinara was prepared very well and the meat was soft and delicious. The sourdough bread was so good as well. The crispy chicken sandwich was different. I don't think there is a way that the chef would have known this but the chicken breast was a woody chicken breast. This means that there was a quality issue with the chicken because it was tough to cut and almost impossible to bite into. I wasn't able to eat the chicken so I ate the cole slaw and bread along with the fries. They did offer to bring me something else but at that point I was over it. My partner had sliced chicken breast with Brussel sprouts, rice and beans. His meal was excellent and I'd have that again. Our last visit was in December. The place was nicely decorated for Xmas. I got the layered nachos. They were oh so delicious. Every chip was covered in something. Lots of cheese, meat, etc. I would totally get these again. We also got the dessert. I think they only had one. It was a cookie in a dish with ice cream. The cookie was so thin and tasted very much like one from a grocery store. I was very unimpressed with that. Had it been thicker than half a centimeter it would have at least been a little more enjoyable. At least it was warm. Wouldn't get this again. I always feel like their prices are decent. I'm thankful that HG Sply hasn't changed much over the years.. overall, their menu and prices remain steadfast. While some items might change a bit, and specials and seasonal ingredients come and go, they always have a well-rounded menu focused on sustainable and pasture-raised ingredients; gluten free, dairy free, and nut free options; and great drinks. You'll always be able to get a burger, steak, fish, vegan queso, protein bowl, or fried chicken sandwich. I'm into the reliability, consistency, sustainability, and general deliciousness. Some of my recommendations (and all of these things can be made gluten free): campfire chicken, tuna or salmon tostadas, crispy tuna, bison chili, farmhouse fried chicken sandwich, the stir fry, the yellow curry, and the fried rice. My husband and I visited the Fort Worth location shortly after it opened in the Alliance area. We'd been to several restaurants that previously occupied that same building and were curious to see how it had been remodeled. The staff greeted us warmly and seated us right away, which was a great start. To be honest, I remember the food being good overall, nothing to complain about at all. Can I recall exactly what I ordered? Not really, which probably says it wasn't particularly memorable, but it certainly wasn't bad either. All in all, it was a pleasant experience. Firstly, it was almost hard to find. Just a note, it's in the very back near the trails. Arrived on a Thursday evening and it was jumping. I didn't expect it to be so packed but we were able to snag a table without a reservation within minutes. Once seated we were greeted by our server for the evening and she brought out waters. We placed our appetizer and entree orders almost immediately. We decided to try the bison meatballs to start. Four nice sized meatballs came out on a small skillet with toasted bread. The meatballs were perfectly covered in a tomato sauce with a sprinkle of cheese. (Sorry we ate most of it before snapping a pic) For entrees I went with the stir fry bowl and added rice and salmon. The bowl was so plentiful and had tons of color. The salmon was prepared with a medium finish per my request. Great flavors were throughout the bowl and was a treat to my palate. My dinner mate ordered the seared tuna with roasted Brussels and broccoli. He truly enjoyed his entree as well and uttered not a sound. Lol. Perfect choice! 1) BEST Street Corn fresh off the cob, seasoned to perfection 2) BEST Golden mashed potatoes that melted in my mouth with every bite. They were yellow and not bleached white. The flavor was amazing! 3) BEST Broccoli on earth. I don't know what they did to this broccoli that made me want to lick the plate, but if I could prepare it like this, I would eat broccoli every single day. 4) the grass fed steak was so tender that they don't serve it with a steak knife. Pretty good find for lunch before the TCU game. It was hot hot hot and they could only sit us out in the sun. They really should have all covered or fans in the sunny unprotected patio. Don't make your servers work out there and your customers bake. Easy fix to add misters or fans. Food was ok. I got salmon tostadas which we're great but super expensive. My daughter got the ahi tuna bowl which in my opinion was super flavorless. My son got the Club sandwich which was the best, but the french fries were soggy and unsalted. Our server was an angel for working out and that heat and always had ice and fresh water for us. The vegan queso and chips were next level good. And I'd say my cocktail was really great too. Came into here for lunch today. Sat at the table and wasn't greeted by a waitress for 10 minutes. She was nice. The place definitely had a laid back vibe. I did feel like I was sitting very low in the both and it felt awkward. Started with a Avacado Humus which was solid. Then had the Backyard Burger and the Crispy Campfire Chicken Sandwich. The burger didn't excite me at all. The bun was solid quality and held up well during the meal. My meat was a little undercooked and lacked seasoning. The veggies were a little frustrating due to using shredded iceberg lettuce and using the stalk portion of it. The pickles were the best part of the whole burger. The Crispy Campfire Chicken Sandwich was incredibly bland and honestly was boring to eat so I just stopped eating. Same thing with the veggies as the burger also. However there were no pickles on the chicken sandwich and it could have used it. The fries on both meals were old and actually over salted. I ended up choosing this spot because the patio was huge and right along the Trinity. It's not the typical taco, it's taco-esque, in that the only thing that makes it a taco is the way you eat it. The tortilla is a thinly sliced jicama. The filling is salmon poke, sushi rice, chili mayo, carrots, green onions, and cilantro. It's fresh and perfect for the summer. There are 3 "tacos" in an order. Service was wonderful. Our server was nice and patient and she came by during the appropriate times. I don't remember having to search for her for anything. We waited 45 minutes for our meals. Both of our meals were cold. My husband got the steak. I got the shrimp kabob. It was all an extremely disappointing experience. My go to is grilled chicken, brussels sprouts, and roasted broccoli with a garlic aioli. But like I said, I think everything on the menu is a good choice. I've been both to this location and the one in Lower Greenville and I give this location just a little more favor because it's right by the water. However, I don't think you can go wrong with this restaurant at any location. They really stand by their statement of minimally processed food because everything always tastes fresh, wholesome, and like quality food. I like how laid back it is, and how much of the focus is on the food and gathering of the people.
