The Purple Frog is great! I've been coming here for years and they're really solid. The food is good, they have a well rounded menu with great prices (near TCU, so great for students). There is a waitress there named Celeste that is one of the rudest waitresses I have ever encountered. She literally cussed me out after I asked why I have not been served a beverage. I honestly think it is the most offensive moments I've had at a restaurant. I was a regular but the new management does not care how the employees treat the customers. "The Frog used to be my favorite place to invite friends and enjoy the ambience of University Circle, but under its new management, it's anything but what it once was. If you're looking for a cold beer, you've found the place--but that's it. If the televisions are working, you might get to see a game, but don't depend on it. Lastly, the new menu boasts 'gourmet-esque' food that's overpriced, overhyped, and far beyond their capabilities. However, if powdered queso and stale chips are your jam, go for it. What was once a source of pride to share with friends and family is now nothing but a disappointing failure--a bar/restaurant suffering from a catastrophic identity crisis. well if you haven't been here for a bit things have changed I mean dont get me wrong the beer is cold and the food they have now is good the new owners have changed things up quite abit everything I and my wife would go there for is GONE, the chicken fried steak the hush puppies the burger selection has been cut down I'm sorry but I doubt well be back. its sad really I did like that place read more

Of all things a purple Frog... yep that's right TCU!! So I'm not in college nor did I go to TCU however I love the area... this place has the absolute best crawfish and they let you get mushrooms instead of the other sides. So I'm all in. The flavor is the best. Hot and juicy!! I've been a few times. Always have great service and all the hellos and goodbyes. The crowd is often entertaining just because the college kids start having all the fun. I love seeing them enjoy themselves, make the atmosphere of the place even better!! Service was slow due to the restaurant was short staffed. Still, the waitress was quite friendly and we were not in any hurry. My chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes, country gravy, and grilled vegetables was wonderful. My two friends each ordered the loaded baked potato and one order was cold--the other friend's was perfect. The waitress brought the one friend an entirely new baked potato. I highly recommend. Some issues, but they were ignored due to nice waitress and excellent food. read more

If you are a Tcu student do not come here. I have never felt so disrespected as I did tonight. My friends and I showed up after the senior bar crawl sober mind you, for a drink and entree. We immediately met with a sassy hostess who clearly did not want to seat us. Before we even asked about entry she told us it would be a 30 minute wait although there were multiple tables inside and outside. She then took it upon herself to deny us our skinny margaritas despite being over the age of 21. Very unfortunate considering the Tuesday/Thursday staff is so wonderful. Just so you know BEFORE you go...this place is a bar/cantina, that happens to serve food....... the place has tv's everywhere and a sound system that is so loud you can't even hear the wait staff, and they can't even hear what we were ordering...just ridiculous .... the food was just ok, nothing to make me return, and the frozen margaritas were too sweet, just stick to beer and you'll be okay....... read more

We all paid for our own tabs, then later came over and said it was their mistake. Then stood at the door and glared as we walked out. Rude and videoed us all as we walked out. Me thinks not sir! For $22 I got this shrimp broil with lackluster flavor and undercooked broccoli. you'd think they would pile that sucker with the good stuff but instead I was given two potatoes and only half a corn. A sausage and a generous amount of shrimp. Bad thing is the sausage was bland the shrimp wasn't clean. It still had its poop attached when removing the shell. I ended up tossing the rest in the trash because it didn't have any sauce it was just sprinkled with seasoning and it came with butter and cocktail sauce. read more

We've been coming to this restaurant for several years now and always been more than satisfied with the food and service. We were surprised to find out on our latest visit, that this restaurant is now under new ownership. Pretty much the same menu however. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon so we sat outside on their patio. Unfortunately, we were not as satisfied on this visit. The food was definitely not as good as in the past and the service was pretty sad. Unfortunately, they did not have near enough servers, based on the crowd, and the beautiful weather. They were trying but unfortunately not succeeding. We waited a long time to get our food, which as previously mentioned was not as good. Tables were not being bused so people were sitting at dirty tables. Simply not a good atmosphere and I doubt we will be back for quite sometime. read more

I really enjoyed this place. I was skeptical at first because I don't usually do the Tcu scene with all the frat boys, but it was good! I am a huge crawfish person, and it's hard to impress me, but these were okay! They weren't bad! The heads still weren't juicy enough for me but like I said I'm a hard sell. What I REALLY enjoyed was the spicy corn nuggets! Omg I didn't know I needed those in my life but I so did. Our waitress was really friendly and efficient as well. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I will go back. Oh yeah, I could pass on the shrimp cocktail (forgot to take a pic) it was Mexican style and too much for me. This is a great bar and grill with one of the most expansive menus I have ever seen. If you cannot find something you like at the Purple Frog, then you are not hungry. It is a bar and grill, so we are not talking about high-end exceptional cuisine, but every item we have had there has been delicious. It is also a very good value. The outdoor patio is nice and is dog friendly. Brisket tacos, any burger, the crabcakes, and all of the grilled items are quite good. Great fries and onion rings, plus an excellent beer selection. read more

The spinach artichoke dip was just melted cream cheese with a few pieces of spinach. The fried pickles and fried jalapeños were as expected. The queso..... I thought that was nice and cool for this fine establishment to do something like that considering there is no food options here. I was told if I'm looking for a place to go earlier then I should definitely check out their sister bar that is right up the street called the Rabbit hole which opens up at 7am. I've been going to The Purple Frog Restaurant on and off for a while and have seen it grow quite a bit. Every time I go in I see something new. It is a great environment with great food. I haven't had any reason to stop going back. Food is always great and the staff is always welcoming and friendly! Our favorite food on menu right now is the shrimp macaroni and cheese. Also the bacon wrapped jalapenos are awesome! It's a great place to have dinner with the family or to just have some drinks and watch sports. I recommend checking out their FB page as they are always doing something different from live music, to karaoke, to game night. We love The Purple Frog and we'll be going back soon! read more

Was recently in, Im a big fan of some tasty nachos so i ordered the Super Nachos. Awesome nachos, could say they are super de duper! My bartender was Kayla, she is great! I don't go to a bar to really talk to the servers I go for the food, drinks and atmosphere and I enjoy every visit I get when I go here. Kayla was very attentive and took care of me whether I needed another drink or more napkins because I'm a slob. If I were to open a bar I would want her to work for me. I requested more and our very pleasant and efficient young served promptly delivered it to the table. The Italian cut green beans were Southern cooking nirvana. So good! Out front there is a oak shaded patio/deck that would be so enjoyable in pleasant weather. Well, definitely visit again, probably this fall to enjoy a meal on the deck.
