This place was truly a 10/10. The service was very friendly and professional. The kicker was the amazing food and ambiance. For food, the vodka pasta was incredible, highly recommend. We also ordered the Caesar salad, NY steak, Zucchini, and a couple other menu items. If I were to recommend anything, I would recommend those 4 items. Upon your arrival, the staff provides everyone champagne and fresh Parmesan cut fresh from the cheese wheel paired with prosciutto. We ordered drinks which were made on a bar cart, table side, such a fun experience. The drinks are also paired with a curated bite that align with the flavor of the drink you ordered. They lock your phone at the door, which at first feels like a personal attack... and then quickly becomes the best part of the experience. Within the first 10 minutes you forget because you reach for the phone that's not in your pocket out of habit to take a photo of your food. Instead, you actually slow down, taking in the look and smell of the food while having a real, uninterrupted conversation with the person across from you. And the food? So good it made me forget I couldn't take a picture of it--which says everything. Every bite was a "wait, try this" moment. The staff was amazing (specifically Iberia and Milosh) who made the experience above and beyond. The vibe was intentional, and for once, no one at the table was half-present and half-scrolling. 10/10 would willingly give up my phone again... which is something I never thought I'd say. read more

We were the group ahead of Megan and A.J. (who left the 1-star reviews) yesterday on Google. First off, we apologize--we were embarrassed not to know about the dress code in advance. That's on us. However, we still couldn't find any mention of it on the website or through Google reservations. I was eventually able to locate something via AI, though I'm not sure where it sourced the information. Even then, the guidance wasn't very clear beyond jackets being required downstairs for men; the rest felt open to interpretation. My girlfriend's high school sophomore daughter and her friend were clearly not within Caterina's standards. The manager was initially reluctant but ultimately agreed to seat us upstairs, which we appreciated. We respected his decision either way. My impression is that, with it being 88 degrees and humid, the weekend crowds in the Stockyards may have overwhelmed the staff, with many frustrated customers being turned away. It was evident by 6:00 p.m. that the staff and manager were already frustrated--we likely added to that, and then Megan and A.J.'s group came in right after us. Again, our fault. I do hope the manager's attitude isn't meant to reflect a New York/Paris-style "rude" persona implemented by Tim Love. If that's the case, that's his prerogative--perhaps he believes that kind of edge enhances the fine dining experience. Otherwise, I'd suggest a more Texas-style approach: we don't do rude here; we do "bless your heart" without offending anyone. There's no need to offend for the sake of it. As for the food and overall dining experience, it was good. In most places around DFW, if this were simply positioned as solid Italian food at around $40 per person, it would likely receive consistently strong reviews. However, Caterina carries higher expectations given Tim Love's reputation--this feels like an attempt to "level up," and that raises the bar. The meal started strong with the sausage and peppers, wild mushrooms, and caprese. The ravioli, however, tasted more like Chef Boyardee. The roasted bass was okay. The jumbo shrimp was very good, though that's a dish that's hard to get wrong. The veal parm was average. I'd suggest trying the branzino at Truluck's (even as a chain, it sets a higher standard). The potato frico was outstanding. Overall, the main courses seemed to be where expectations were highest--and where the most disappointment occurred. The atmosphere is quite cramped, with tables very close together and frequent brushing past from staff and guests. It feels more like a communal dining experience, even when neighboring tables are trying to enjoy a more intimate moment. Not a major issue, but worth noting. Even with a 6:00 p.m. seating--before the peak 7:00 p.m. crowd--the meal lasted about two hours at a slow pace. I imagine later seatings experienced even longer durations, which may appeal more to a European-style dining pace. We actually liked the no-phone policy, though it might be worth allowing brief access for photos after the main courses are served. I suspect they would accommodate that if asked. Lastly, Ebony (I hope I got her name right) was exceptional--truly one of the best servers I've experienced anywhere in the world. Arancini was delicious, my caprese salad ok but not season for vine ripe tomatoes, husband said Caesar was very good, then had carbonara with guanciale very good. All generous portions. I would give a zero rating if I could. We had a change of plans and tried to cancel our reservation through text, the same way our reservation was confirmed the day before. I called back the next day in the afternoon (our reservation was at 6:15pm) to double check that our reservation was canceled and I was informed that I would be charged $50 per person for "late cancellation". All was good until the end of the evening and waitress said it was policy not to split the check. We could only do it down the middle. Soo we did. I have been to this place a few times and every time it was excellent however I took my family a few weeks ago and I was disappointed in our service. We had a reservation and from the get-go we felt rushed. When we placed our order for appetizers, we said that was it for now and our waitress in what we felt was said in a rude way said "that's the whole order??" But never clarified we had to place our whole order because the kitchen was going to close. My mom then ordered the chicken and gnocchi soup and when it arrived, it didn't have gnocchi pasta because my mom looked for it before eating it. We asked our waitress if the gnocchi pasta was in her dish and she took it back to the kitchen to ask the chef and when she came back, she brought a new soup with the gnocchi on the side and said " I brought the gnocchi on the side, the chef said you might have ate it because it was small" the gnocchi was fairly large and could be seen once it was mixed in the soup. We thought the comment was not necessary and quite frankly rude. That experience left a bad taste in our mouth, and it's very disappointing because my past experience was much better. read more

They had the manager and bartender trying to serve everyone. I was the only patron at the bar and ordered way less than usual due to poor service. I also saw them turn away 3 walkin's for dinner using several excuses. The place wasn't full. They just didn't have the staff to serve. My husband and I at here this past weekend and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. We had never eaten at a restaurant where they locked up your cell phones and it was such a joy. My husband however is a foodie and wanted to document our meal, but after a few minutes he got over it. Our servers (Maria & Rockie were very attentive and accommodating and knowledgeable and made our dining experience even better! They even took the time to take a Polaroid of the both of us. As for the food, EVERYTHING was top notch. Very flavorful and the portions were right on. We are originally from Chicago, where we were spoiled by every ethnic food you can imagine. My fiancé and I went here for his birthday and it was honestly underwhelming. Our waitress was good but it did take her a while to even acknowledge us. After getting drinks, she gave us a rundown of the menu and recommended that we order two dishes from each course to get the "full four course experience." Obviously since they don't allow cell phones, I hadn't seen pictures of the portions online, so we were relying on her recommendation. We did in fact order two dishes from each course, and it was a ridiculous amount of food. Don't get me wrong, we like to eat, but there was no way two people would be able to eat everything. I love a restaurant that has large portions, but if we would have known that, we wouldn't have ordered 8 different things!! It made me feel like our waitress was suggesting we order a bunch of food so we would run up a tab and she would get a bigger tip. The apps and Cesar salad were fabulous, but our mains were lacking. They also didn't do anything to celebrate my fiancé's birthday. I don't usually go around expecting special treatment, but if you're going to drop $400 on a birthday dinner for two, a dessert or champagne would be nice. Everything is either an extreme 5 or an extreme 1 so I went in with low expectations Within minutes, I was in the hard 5 camp I started at the bar while husband parked and was blown away by the warmth and hospitality. The restaurant is cramped like an NYC restaurant where you can stick your hand out and touch the food on the next table. I went alone just to be nosy and I sat in silent throughout. For starters I had meatballs and caprese and then rabbit stew for main. The alcohol infused cake was very dry but everything else was great. The food was amazing at Caterinas! We started off with some aracini that was some of the best I've had since living in Italy. Then we shared a veal cheek agnolotti. The sage sauce and cipollini onion were delicious but the agnolotti wasn't actually agnolotti. And the veal cheek inside was very dry. Tasty but dry. After that we had the pork chop which I would definitly recommend and finished it off with tiramisu). Overall I'd come here again maybe in a few years. It's definitly a special occasion place. They serve you complementary Prosecco when you sit down, as well as bring out a sampling of meat and cheese and then bread. It was fun. And having our phones locked up was nice. I must say - I was not expecting to leave this type of review, but I cannot see any other way around it. A friend and I decided to try out Caterina's before a concert at Dickies. We both love Italian food and thought it looked like a fun concept. We arrived early, and they were willing to accommodate us and seat us early after very quickly locking our phones in sealed pouches. I get the reasoning behind it, but honestly, I believe there may be other reasons behind this concept, but I digress. Upon being seated, our waitress greeted us with a complimentary glass of champagne. Nice way to begin the evening. She proceeds to also bring us a small tray of two small pieces of parmigiano reggiano (most likely from the big wheel at the front door) and two slices of prosciutto. It, too, was a nice touch. We are off to a good start! Not even having a chance to look at a dinner menu or even enjoy the glass of sparkling given when we were handed a small cocktail menu with quite a few options. I'm a bourbon gal, and ordered a Paper Plane that was not on the special menu. My friend ordered a Hugo that was. A few minutes later, the waitress pushes a cocktail cart up to the table and makes a show of creating my friend's cocktail, including "clapping" the mint/herbs that go into her cocktail between her hands in a theatrical fashion. Now I like a good show, but this was a bit on the over-the-top and unnecessary side. Now I'm beginning to understand why they're not allowing phones..... Both cocktails were very good. (Highly recommend the Paper Plane.) And we were then immediately handed dinner menus and were walked though the "chef's recommendations" to eat. Nothing on the antipasto portion stood out as a must have. So, we decided to start our meal out by sharing a Caprese salad. For the pasta course, she ordered the spaghetti alle vongole (clams), while I ordered the Cacio e Pepe. For the main course, we decided to split the 2lb lobster that comes with sweet corn ravioli. The waitress again states that the "chef recommends an antipasto as well" as if that means we HAVE to order one because he says so. That was slightly off putting. Once we finish ordering, our waitress asks us what wines we would like to have with each course. Now we haven't drank our cocktails or even finished the sparkling wine yet. So the idea to ask for wine orders, seemed a little premature. We told her that we will wait and see how the dinner progresses. The Caprese salad arrived at the table. A lovely mixture of cherry and heirloom tomatoes, kissed with an evoo and balsamic mixture. However, it also arrived with the equivalent of 2 tbsp of crumbled fresh mozzarella. Not exactly what we were expecting, but we enjoyed it. The pasta dishes arrived. My friend's pasta alle vongole looked good, and she enjoyed hers. However, while the texture of the bucatini in my Cacio e Pepe was nice, the flavor was just off. It had a hint of what tasted like white truffle oil, which not only doesn't belong in a Cacio e Pepe but is one of the flavors I just do not like. So, I ate very little. Once again we were asked about purchasing wine. We figured this wouldn't stop until we actually ordered wine. So we each ordered a glass. Main course arrived: 2lb Lobster with Sweet Corn Ravioli. Presentation was beautiful (if I was allowed to take a photo, I'd surely post one). However once we each got a half of a tail on our plates, we found the lobster to be extremely extremely rubbery and over cooked. I also found the sauce to be overwhelming for the dish, but we didn't get a chance to try the ravioli. We couldn't get past the texture of the lobster. Once we notified the waitress, she promptly took the plate away and came back with the menu. She suggested the shrimp scampi but warned us that they're very large and "barely cooked." At this point, we just went with that to be done with dinner. A gentleman, who I think may have been a manager, arrived with our scampi and said that he wanted us to cut into them and taste them with him present. Extremely odd but we acquiesced. The shrimp was indeed large, but the flavor was just okay. I think at that point, we were just done with dinner and asked for our check without eating my more of the scampi outside of the tasting. The bill arrives and I notice that there are charges for at least 2-3 items that were not ours. Somehow our table and a neighboring table had our bills combined. They sorted it out, and we promptly paid and left. The food is just not worth the hype or the pretentiousness. While our waitress was nice, the constant pushing of ordering more and more wine/cocktails became tiresome. I understand that is a big money maker for restaurants, but it's a little off putting. I would honestly find your Italian elsewhere. read more

We were seated for our reservation promptly and given the complimentary Prosecco, which was delicious. No bread service or meat/cheese plate as other mentioned were offered. Our server was attentive and nice. Having the phones put away/ locked during the meal was fine (and a nice change), though we called several times on our way to let them know we'd be a few minutes late and no one answered. I'm a little concerned if there was an emergency and someone needed to get a hold of you they wouldn't be able to (we all have small children at home and had given the sitter the number). The man seated next to us was in an orange fishing shirt... would have loved this establishment to enforce the jacket rule for men. Pork chop, veal and chicken were all delicious. Caesar was nothing special. Spaghetti carbonara and rigatoni were good. Wine was fine. We had noted we were celebrating 2 anniversaries on the reservation as well as mentioned it when the server asked upon being seated -- zero was done to celebrate that, no dessert. Not a huge deal though if you're looking for something like this, this isn't the place. We asked for a Polaroid photo on our way out (a cute thing the restaurant does since phones are not allowed) and the woman at the front didn't know how to change the film nor work the camera ... again, strange. Was expecting a fine dining, 5 star experience, and the reality was an empty, short staffed mediocre and overpriced experience. Walked in and no one to greet us. No one sitting at bar on a busy Stockyard weekend. Thought we entered the wrong door so started walking around to find someone. Staff finally arrived and took us to a table. Maybe 4 other tables with people sat at 7p. Should've been our first sign. Complimentary Prosecco was nice. Tableside drink presentation should have been exciting but we ordered normal bar drinks so the process seemed wasteful and unnecessary. Waitress stated her fav drink was the mezcal one. Two of us ordered. Came with a blue cheese/fig leaf wrapped accompaniment- not enjoyable especially if you don't prefer blue cheese- again wasteful and unnecessary and gross. Neither of us enjoyed the drink either. Didn't finish it. Waitress suggested the caprese - it was underwhelming. She suggested the pork chop for our main meal but her series of suggestions so far were bad so we went with the rigatoni, carbonara and b fish. All were good. She brought everclear limoncello as a "complimentary birthday" item to end our meal. None of us enjoyed it. Saying it was everclear cheapened the experience. One of our party is Italian and she was underwhelmed with the entire dining experience as well. No Polaroid was offered or taken. Don't let the lack of pictures and reviews fool you, this restaurant is Fort Worth's best kept secret! Tim Love absolutely knocked out of the park with this one! The authentic Italian food is some of the best in the DFW area. Restaurant team was SO friendly and attentive. We made the reservation online. Did not see the dress code anywhere on the reservation tab or in the confirmation email. My wife and I were dressed in nice dress shorts. She had on a very nice blouse and heels. I had on a golf shirt. We arrived on time for our reservation. The hostess was downright rude. Immediately told me to go change or we could not be seated. I must have looked incredulous. My wife and daughters came in immediately after that. They were like "what is wrong." The hostess didn't let me answer and told my wife we were not dressed appropriately and needed to leave. Never been so embarrassed or shocked in my life. The inside was absolutely nothing special and looked empty. There were several families standing outside in shorts also refused service. I get that some restaurants have a dress code. However it was not easy to find and there was no reminder in the email we received. Further after we left I did finally find two locations online where dress code was mentioned. They both said different things. One says "blazer or jacket requirement suspended for the summer". No mention of "no shorts". In another section it says "business casual" and "summer chic". And no shorts or open toed shoes for men. Now this is a Saturday night. In the stockyards. And TCU parents and rodeo patrons all over the streets. 90% or more had on shorts. It's 100+ degrees. Business casual is a very loosely defined term that is open for interpretation. As is summer chic. I have been to many 5 star and also Michelin star restaurants in shorts. This restaurant did not even come close to the ambience in those. Save your time and money and don't bother going this restaurant where the staff and owner think they are way better than they are.
