In the area for an event this morning and hungry for breakfast around 10am. We're going to go old school at Ol'South but while in our 30min wait outside, I looked over and saw Rex's had a sign "now serving brunch". We went right over and were quickly greeted and seated. Appeared clean, multiple seating options (inside & out back), TVs, modern decor. Quiet at this time of day. Fast friendly service. Our table enjoyed the avocado omelette, and two breakfast bowls with salsa Fresca - one bowl with bacon and the other with chicken sausage. Breakfast potatoes are large cut. We each had leftovers to take home. Other brunch items included tacos, migas, Chilaquiles, mexican eggs, avocado toast, etc. Looks like a neat spot hang and watch sports in the background. Very nice people working there, but we were underwhelmed. Margaritas are slightly below average. Pizza is well below average; comparable to movie theater pizza. Stopped in on a Thursday night. It has great times available to watch games or eat. However the food is just ok. Not great... Had the dip trio... which was ok. The queso was kind of watery. And ordered the creamy corn which seemed like corn with mayo. Ordered Rex's burger... and it was not good. This was a really cool find near my hotel. The front staff and waiters were very attentive. Our waiter made great suggestions and was patient as we sorted through the menu especially with the kiddos! Sports on TVs are plentiful... the food was eh... we ordered a Cesar salad that never came along with shrimp tacos and the muenster melt... the side of onion rings didn't come and then when it arrived they were cold. I want to start off by saying the service was phenomenal. I wanted to love this place, there were so many great reviews. $17 for a salad and that is without protein added. I got a breakfast bowl, the food was bland. There was no flavor despite having bacon, onions, and bell peppers. The eggs tasted fake. It tasted better with a very healthy addition of salt and paper but at the price point you would expect the food to taste good when it comes out. Fun spot to watch sports on lots of TVs with friends and family. Ordered the CFS: thin, tender, easy to cut without a steak knife, it just lacked any flavor. The garlic mashed potatoes were very garlic-y (my fave) but were oh so very salty; the green beans were just too raw for my taste. My companions ordered lots of different items, the consensus was the main item they ordered was delicious but all the sides were way too salty to eat. This place is known as supporting TCU, yet the two times I've been to watch a football game on the patio TCU wasn't in the big screen or it was kicked off to a side tv. After last night, we'll find another spot to watch the game. Our friend had to send his pizza back because his "crust" was dough instead. Some of us shared Cowboy nachos that had cold brisket on top and most chips didn't have cheese on it. We asked for more cheese and some salsa. They gladly brought us some tiny dressing size of each. $5 was charged us for the cheese and $2 for the salsa. Crazy. We all agreed the beers were not very cold. For the first week of business...they are running very smooth and efficient. We had amazing service & the food was way better than I expected for a "Bar & Grill" type restaurant. We had the Italian nachos (minus peppers cause I am allergic) they were everything I had hoped for. The pretzels bites are not a normal baked bite...they had a great salty butter dipping and served with a great white queso. Our mains were a knock out of the park.., The BIG REX BURGER...is HUGE!!! Third times a charm?! NOPE!! We went back at the behest of their "business manager, Stephanie" Scheduled our visit and we showed up. They sat us at the worst spot I. The restaurant- against the wall and under the TV's. The food, once again, it was just sort of ok. Started off with a margarita pizza- flavorless. The wings- actually were really good flavor, it they're not "wow, I need to come back and harness again."then we split a burger, figured let's try their "Big Rex Burger" we figured if a namesake burger has to be unquestionably good.. nah, it's just an average burger with a couple flavorless mozzarella sticks on it. We did have. Manager come up to our table this time, young Hispanic guy, he definitely needs straining in how to speak to customers. Didn't acknowledge we were there at Stephanie's request. Didn't go out of his way to make sure we were being taken care of, just walked up, asked if we were good and walked away. Crowded, noisy, and average food. Very typical sports bar. Amazing screen in the rear outdoor back patio.

I like Rex's. But in a good and not so good way. First off, inside set up is nice. Two bars, front and back, with dining room seating in between. Service on my several visits has always been good, and I've even had managers come by and ask how everything was going. The outside patio is nice, mostly covered, fans, heaters, and a wall sized TV that is great for watching sports. The beer and booze selection is good. Drinks have always been good. My downfall, is the food. One visit I had the spicy trio app. I got the salsa fresco, the creamy elote, and the pimento cheese. All of them were...okay. I didn't find a lot of real flavor with any of them, and the salsa fresco had a tartness kind of flavor to it. Another visit I got the wagyu chicken fried steak. I love me a good CFS but I was wondering if some of the negative comments about it were right. I have to agree, some of them are. All CFS have some issues with over breading. Well, almost all. This one does have some little over average breading. Also, the steak is a little thin, and for wagyu, it didn't seem any more tender than any other CFS I've ever had. I know a tender CFS is hard to find, and sadly this isn't one of those. It wasn't tough, but it did need a knife to cut through. That part, and the fact that the first cut started knocking off major pieces of breading, well, there you have it. It still tasted pretty good. The green beans and mashed potatoes were good, but they charged me $1 for extra gravy. C'mon guys, you're charging me $22 and I can't even get a free side of gravy? For shame. Texas sized? Eh, I didn't see that. When the steak was gone, there was a small pile of uneaten breading left on the plate. Anyway, I think it's a great place for drinks. It's pretty calm inside, the patio is loud, but that's what it's there for. Plenty of TV's around to watch sports. There is a private dining room you can rent out. I will continue to go, and will probably try other food things, but at this point, I think the food price is a little high for what you're getting. Also, every tab has a digital processing fee or whatever (fancy name for a credit card surcharge) so if you're paying cash, be sure and let them know to remove that. I did. read more

Went there for late lunch on Thanksgiving day! It was the only open restaurant in the afternoon. The server was very sweet and helpful. The food is a whole different thing! We ordered the wings, which were so dry and tasted like charcoal and perfume, the nachos roping which included meat and cheese were cold, we asked for a new one, the heated the same plate and brought it back still cold and not crispy. The pizza topping were non existing and the chicken looked like it was cooked frozen. The only think that was decent, not great, was the burger. We loved this place the first time we went. However, we went in today to enjoy the long happy hour time. We were seated, and then we waited at least 10 minutes to get our order taken. It ultimately never was. It wasn't even busy. Our waiter was also the bartender, and we were seated right by the bar. He kept trying not to make eye contact with us. We also witnessed him try and make an old fashioned for another table the entire time we were waiting. We would have been understanding if he wasn't zoning out, ignoring us, and trying to call his manager over for help. He had no idea what he was doing. He was also trying to open a new bottle of whisky, and he used his teeth to take off the plastic part, which is incredibly unhygienic.
