I saw the place on my walk back to my hotel and decided to give it a try. It was ok. I think what happened was I asked for light sauce and it was really light so not much flavor. I left already so I really couldn't go back for more. They have a variety of poki flavors which was nice. Also a variety of toppings. Definitely worth a try! read more

We got a poke bowl right away. We destroyed it before we even got to take a picture of it lol. While eating the poke we received our beef teriyaki rice bowls and it didn't disappoint. If you love garlic, this is the poke place for you!! I was excited to see so many garlicky options to add into my bowl. I got a regular "build your own" bowl, which came with three scoops of protein. I tried the furikake salmon and Hawaiian tuna! Both were pretty good. The salmon was VERY buttery and fatty. The tuna was classic lean fish with sesame, green onion, ogo seaweed, shoyu, etc. I was pretty satisfied! For garlic options, I got the garlic crab salad, garlic mayo, and garlic bread crumbs. Poke is pretty good. Have not tried the hot menu. My only gripe is their pricing. It's downtown SF so I get it. I have come in on two occasions to buy just a side of rice. The first time, they charged a reasonable amount $5 (or less than that). Today, I was charged nearly $9. For a side of rice. I didn't see the price, the woman at the register didn't tell me. She just entered into the POS and walked away. I couldn't see the total until AFTER paying. I would not have paid. It's ridiculous. Edit: The owner replied, suggesting I should have just left without paying if I didn't agree with the price. As I mentioned above, I wasn't informed of the price beforehand. The POS didn't display it, and the cashier walked away after entering it into the POS. I only saw the total after I'd already paid. It's frustrating that pricing seems inconsistent and that a small item, like a side of rice, could suddenly cost over 75% more in the span of one year. Clearer, consistent pricing would be a much better approach for customers. Please focus on properly pricing. If rice has to be $9 going forward then so be it, but at least be consistent. Lunch rush is no joke. They do a great job of filing through the long line of people but it seemed to be mostly poke bowls with this much traffic. I'll have to come back not between 12-1pm to try the hot food options that take ~10 minutes. Until then 4 stars but I promise I'll be back soon to try other things on the menu and update accordingly! I am very glad to have found this poke place though! They definitely can add a Hawaiian flair to all bowls, but the main fish and toppings you would expect are available too. Scoops of fish seemed a little small, but a medium bowl comes with 3 and I was full after so I guess it's the right size after all. Medium bowl with no extras was about $17, so right at the expected price too. Food was good, the sauces were great, the selection was vast. It wasn't the right time to grab dessert but oh my gosh I would like some of the ice cream! Next time next time. One note about the space, it's long and skinny so the line doubles up. There is a door that swings inward and has a push to open button at waist level. the amount of people who leaned against it while in line to open on people just in front of them were too numerous to count. If you want a quick and easy poke bowl, Hi City is definitely a good stop to come by. It's in the financial district, so a lot of workers come here during lunch hours. They have preset bowls on their menu, or you can just create your own. I ended up getting their preset bulgogi bowl as well as the salmon poke bowl which I ended up building. They have lots of different marinades for their salmon and tuna proteins, so it's nice to see those options. I will say the bulgogi is quite salty from the sauce, so you definitely need to eat it with more rice to dilute the flavor if you get it. Other than that, it's a pretty simple poke bowl shop. I got the poke bowl with 3 proteins today and noticed they have some unique proteins I haven't seen at other poke places like Korean mussels which I got. Glad to see that they're doing well and had a long but very quick assembly line of customers during the 12 noon lunch hour rush. I didn't see any Filipino food like lumpia though even though it's one of their tags. It's mainly a Hawaiian lunch spot with poke, a few cooked bowls options but it says 5-15 mins wait, and spam musubis. It also sells poke by the pound for $29.99. It filled my cravings for poke and brings back good memories of my vacation in Hawaii last year! They also have a sign near the register that says they give a 5% cash discount. Wish I knew earlier or I would've brought more cash since I was only short $1.50 to pay in cash. read more

I'm not a huge raw fish person, so I was happy to see that they offer vegan tofu poke bowls (with free avocado!). I've had a lot of poke that was just ok - just enough to scratch the itch for sushi or fresh seafood. But, HI City Poke was really good - like craveable poke bowls that I would actively seek out. I had the salmon furikake bowl with brown rice and shrimp ceviche. The house Calamansi ponzu was just tangy enough to cut the richness of the fresh salmon. The scallops were sweet and tender. The shrimp poke was more a mayo based shrimp salad. But the garlic aioli was incredibly delicious and the shrimp were perfectly cooked - not at all rubbery. All the fixings I added made for a slightly healthy lunch that didn't make me immediately food coma. I am hardly ever one to crave poke because the fish at most poke places has been sitting for too long and leave little to be desired (unless you are trying to get a free colon cleanse). But, the fresh flavors of HI City Foods will definitely keep me coming back. read more

Hi City is a great spot to stop by for lunch in the Downtown area! To find them, look for their cute window sign along the street. Then, go inside the main building entrance and they will be the first door on your right. I think it's pretty cool that their door handles have "nano sanitization" on them (if I read that right). Upon entering you will be kindly greeted by friendly staff. Currently only 2 people are allowed at a time so take that into consideration if you are in a rush, but on a Thursday around 11am it was not too crowded and the food only took a few minutes to be ready. I was able to try their Kalua Pork Bowl with white rice and was also able to get a scoop of spicy Tuna poke. The Kalua pork was moist (even after I brought it home) and came with complementing sides of macaroni salad, pickled onions, pico de gallo, and sushi rice. It all came in a cardboard bowl (appreciate the eco-friendliness) and was very filling, def a full the bowl. I'm not big on raw fish but I still liked their spicy tuna which had a good flavor to it. Their bowls are $11-$13 which is not too bad compared to a lot of places. They also have a vegan curry, low carb musubi, and a yam noodles option if you need something to fit your diet. I am happy to find this new poke place. They are located inside if a building that almost looks like a hotel. I am grateful to be able to try during the yelp elite event. I was not sure which one to try, which I decided to ask the staff for help. She recommended me to try the chicken adabo. It was perfectly seasoned and flavored. They actually offer a good amount of protein for the bowl. They also add corn, radish and a scoop of poke. I tried the spicy tuna. Everything was amazing and flavorful. The one downside is the parking. Its horrendous traffic and no parking space. So I do recommend that if you can order in advance do so and otherwise be prepared to wait in line and and have your car double parked or pay parking. The staff are super nice, the guy actually remembered the customers that came before and says hi to every individual that enters their store. And thank you On you way out. I think I might've found my go-to lunch spot in Fidi! I've been on this kick to eat 'healthier,' and a poke bowl to me is typically my favorite option when being healthy. Finding this spot in the 'hot n new' search on Yelp, I knew I had to give this place a try. Got here around 1:30pm and to my surprise there was no line. Ordering was simple, choose between a small (2 scoops), medium (3 scoops) or a large (4 scoops) and you get a choice of sushi rice, brown rice, mixed greens, or yam noodles. Each bowl is topped with crab salad and cucumbers, plus you can add your favorite toppings towards the end. The traditional and the furikake salmon were bomb.The quality of the fish is top notch! It was one of those poke experiences where the first bite transported you back to the islands. Fresh tasting, good flavor, big pieces, all great things when looking for a quality poke bowl. My love language is Hawaiian food. I'll definitely be back because not only do they have poke, they have a huge selection of hot foods such as loco moco, short ribs, baked chicken adobo, and a slew of musubis! The tuna was so discolored and inconsistent that it resembled pork fat and the smell gave off a sour stench. It's texture is spongy, and tastes almost rotten. Breakfast Spam Musubi: So it's already unique since they put tamago and avocado on top of the typical spam and rice. But what really sets it apart is blowtorching the spam to order! A nice sear on spam is always appreciated, but turns into a fun show to see it happen live with a big flame. Also, the freshly wrapped seaweed has a nice crunch not found in premade wraps. Short Rib Loco Moco: Much fancier than a hamburger! Not Korean-style thin cut grilled short ribs. More like thick slow cooked French short ribs. A decent amount of gravy, tons of rice and fried egg turn this into quite a bougie loco moco. A delicious hamburger substitution! Lilikoi Lemonade: Had a strong passion fruit flavor, so thankfully more lilikoi than lemonade. However, didn't taste very fresh, more like some juice from a box. I love poke, so I was thrilled to have been recommended HI City by one of my coworkers! I've eaten here a few times by ordering takeaway in person, and have even ordered it over GrubHub once. Overall, it is great tasting poke and there are a variety of poke options for your bowl. Poke: There are a TON of tuna options, but the scoop size is small. Build-Your-Own-Bowl only includes two scoops so adding extra scoops (you can add up to two more) can cost $$$. There's also a number of salmon and other unique pokes. Sauce: A nice variety of sauce options, but be warned that they can be heavy handed with the sauce drizzling with app orders. I took off a star because of my experience with my GrubHub order: I asked for light sauce and received the guzzling plate pictured along this review - yikes! Wait: There is ALWAYS. A wait if you go during the traditional lunch rush, especially on Tuesdays - Thursdays. It's a good sign that this place is great, since others like it too, but just wanted to provide a heads up that it may be better to go earlier or later to avoid a wait. HI City is the only place I have seen do it right, and it tastes soooo good! They also have all the classic poke choices which is great :) My favorite part is that they also have hot foods (spam, loco moco, kalua pork!) to choose from. These options are all so tasty and are made really well. The kalua pork melted in my mouth.
