Good take out lunch spot in FiDi! I got the edamame set w/ the spam and sweet soy salmon poke onigiri. The salmon tasted fresh and I really like the flavor. Both had the right amount of sauce and 2 onigiris was perfect for lunch. I also like that you could remove things and get money back. My edamame was cold which I did see other reviews mention, but it wasn't the end of the world. Going to Onigilly was the best possible way to finish our trip! My friends and I came to Onigilly after I found it on yelp and it was fantastic! Everyone said it ended up being their favorite meal of the trip. We ordered at the restaurant and walked to a park to eat since we're a large party and the shop is quite small. For 7 individual orders I would say it took 20 minutes max, very good service! For the bites: I ordered 3 onigiri: salmon, spicy tuna, and spam and all three were incredible. Super flavorful all the fillings were fresh, seaweed was still crunchy enough after we walked down the block to eat at a local park. They are larger onigiri which are the size I usually prefer. We got the set of 3 that comes with the pickled radish (perfectly crunchy and tart enough!), edamame, tamagoyaki (bit too sweet for my liking though), chicken karaage (wasn't as crunchy as I wanted), and choice of 3 flavored onigiri . My favorite is the ponzu salmon poke! That one is so rich in flavor! We also got the hijiki braised seaweed-- that one was good but a little more dry compared to the salmon. I think the fish adds a different complementary texture. Lastly, we got the shiitake mushroom which is a good option too if you like mushrooms. My friends tried the purple potato fries--highly recommend! Whenever I'm running errands in the FiDi, I almost always get my lunch here. The quality has remained high from the many years I've been dining here. They no longer have curry on the menu. But they do have these premium onigiri, including ones filled with poke. I LOVE the sweet soy salmon poke onigiri. It's a little sweet, a little umami, and very fresh. And as always, I also got a tempura shrimp onigiri. I just love the crunchy texture with a meaty shrimp and soft rice. I also added a side of kaarage chicken that was juicy. So this was a custom box set for around $16, and it was filling. I always think two is not enough, but then I remember the time I got 3 onigiri and was stuffed. Service was really quick after I ordered on their kiosk. This was after the lunch rush, so I was the only one there and it seems the online orders slowed down. Otherwise, I have been here during the lunch rush and it is packed! Something to think about if you want to get food here. There's no seating here, so orders are only for take out. It is small and can definitely get crowded during lunch time so I always stop by around 11am. You can order through the kiosks or online. Right now, the strawberry lemonade is my favorite and the matcha lemonade is a close second. Service was very quick and you can grab napkins, utensils and soy sauce in the side. They also had hand sanitizers to use after when you touch the iPad which was nice. I liked the ponzu salmon poke more than the krab salad. Krab salad was a bit plain but still good. This place is a takeout spot. It is also a short walk from Montgomery BART station top. I haven't had onigiri since my trip to kyoto and was so curious how this placed stacked up. The rice quantity was more than Japan but I feel the fish quality was pretty good. Two of these will fill you up pretty well but with so much variety, might as well get more to try different varieties. The combo were much different than the no frills regular stuff you can get in Japan but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'd give this place a try for a quick snack or meal. Also got an order of edamame on the side. For the onigiri I got the crab salad and the ponzu salmon. Both of the flavors on the onigiri were sooo good. Normally crab salad is whatever but the onigiri was so flavorful and well seasoned. They really filled it too. The salmon one was also delicious and I liked that they had some onions and whatnot to add some texture. My only gripe is that they were super skimpy on the salmon pieces, especially for a $1 upcharge. The wakame salad was also great and different than the standard bright green, slimier variety at other places. This one felt more natural and less sweet.
