Lemongrass Pork Shoulder and Cha Gio
Renee J.

Excellent lunch in FiDI SF. Great smokey flavors. Tender meats and fish. Large portions. Very friendly service- always smiling and efficient. Casual tables inside.

Lemongrass Tofu Banh Mi
Suraj P.

Pretty solid sandwich and it was loaded with fillings! The sauce was really tasty as well. When I got to the location for lunch it was really busy, but the service was still super fast considering the amount of people waiting. They have a small seating area inside but all of the seats were taken. I would go back for lunch when I am in the office!

This is such a great lunch spot if you work in the Financial District. definitely gets pretty busy during lunch hours though so would recommend you get there during off hours if possible! I got the bun thit nuong and it came in a huge bowl w rice noodles and plenty of lemongrass pork. The pork had lots of flavor and wasn't too chewy -- the peanuts on top added really nice garnish and crunch. service was very fast, the food arrived within 5 minutes. The banh mi's are enormous and stuffed to the brim, so hoping to get that next time. Really good prices for the amount of food you get too!

Such fire food. Super busy during lunch time during the work week but totally worth the long line. They give a lot of protein and if you sit down, they'll serve you even if they're just supposed to be a takeout place! (Not to be confused with their sit down restaurant Mau.) Price ranges from $16-20 easily -- but totally worth it!

BBQ Pork Noodle with egg roll.

Yum! Delicious quick lunch option. Placed my order at the counter and got my box lunch in a few minutes. The restaurant has a few tables that probably seats 20 ppl. Nice place to sit for a quick lunch.

A new lunch option in the neighborhood! Was walking out of the the office for lunch today and needed to try something new. A couple of the guys (my colleagues) taking a cigarette break out there and suggested I try Mau. They are a Vietnamese restaurant and, to be honest, I am not sure how long they've been in this location, but after trying them for the first time, I am glad they are here! I walked in and asked the gentleman behind the counter what he would recommend to a first-timer! After telling him that I was leaning towards a lunch plate (vs. sandwich or noodle bowl), he recommended the Grilled Lemongrass Pork or Chicken, so pork it was! The thinly cut pork shoulder is spiced and grilled just right. The rice was perfectly cooked and the pickled daikon, carrots and cauliflower added that extra flavor to the whole thing! I think they just got them a new "regular"! I will be going back!

5-Five-spice Chicken Banh Mi
Russ D.

Biggest Banh Mi I've ever had! I had the 5-spice chicken and it was super good. I wish they would have cut the chicken a bit thinner to make it less messy and easier to eat. The meat was flavorful and juicy. It was on the pricey side but that's what's expected in downtown SF. Easy walk from my office and there's tables inside. I'd definitely come back.

Meat for the
 Bun Cha Ha Noi
Adam B.

Sadly they're only open for takeaway, so I'll have to hold off on getting a warm clay pot of caramelized fish. But much of the rest of their menu translates to to-go very well. I'm especially impressed by how tasty all the meats are. Hue Rolls: So much better than the light shrimp rolls you get at many Vietnamese restaurants. These are centered around thinly cut and heavily marinated grilled pork. So much meaty smoky goodness in each bite. The thick noodle-like wrap on the outside is also superior to this thin cellophane rice paper wraps typically used in rolls. All the veggies and herbs between the meat and noodles perfectly offset the richness. Bun Cha Ha Noi w/ Cha Gio: Meat overload! The rice noodles, herbs and lettuce were in the bowl. Thick grilled pork patties and thin marinated pork slices were in a container of tangy liquid on the side, with a few thin slices of carrots. Definitely more meat than any bowl you'd get preassembled. The pork slices were so full of flavor from their marinade to their grilling and finished with their soaking. The grilled pork patties were extremely hearty and nicely spiced. Also, liked the crispy cha gio add-on for even more pork indulgence, though quite filling with everything else. Only gripe would be that it felt a little salty, since I was super thirsty the rest of the afternoon. Xa Xiu Pork Banh Mi: Tons of crispy thick pork belly against all the expected trappings of a good Vietnamese sandwich. The bread was chewy and crusty. I like that the lightly pickled carrots and daikon were in thin discs rather than in in shredded form; gave it more texture. Lots of yummy fresh cilantro and a generous amount of mayo. There was also some sort of pork cold cuts, which added a good porky complement to the crispy pork belly. My only advice would be eat this all at once. I saved half for later and the pork belly lost its crispiness and the formerly crispy parts got rubbery.

Banh Mi

Giving this place 2 stars for their Bahn mi. They put way too much house aioli sauce and it made the bahn mi soggy. The aioli flavor overpowered everything else :/ also the carrots weren't shredded but in a circle shape which I didn't really enjoy. I do recommend their rice plates and other dishes but I'd pass on their banh mis- I've had better.

We've heard about the lines and how it sells out quick as well, so we came for a late lunch at 2:30pm. The line didn't look too bad at first until I learned that there are only 11 seats exactly inside and only 2 people running the whole show. Having eaten nothing yet, this two and a half hour line did a number on us. We were so hungry that I left the line to quickly pick up some takoyaki to snack on while we waited. Once you finally get to the front, you order at the kiosk and everything is entirely self-serviced from getting seated to picking up your order. When we finally got our food, we were disappointed by how broken our soba was and how many clumps we found as well. The soba itself was also mediocre and not worth the hype. I got the scallop kakiage and while it was good some pieces were undercooked like my eggplant and that was really hard to eat. The food wasn't terrible, but not great and definitely not worth the wait and hassle. A pass for me :(

We ordered the Papaya Salad, Veg Spring Rolls, House Favorite Yellow Curry, Eggplant Basil, Pad Kee Mao, and White Rice. The Papaya Salad was a bit disappointing. It was overly sour and tasted more citrusy than fresh and lime-forward. The Veg Spring Rolls were fine, but nothing particularly memorable. The biggest letdown was the Yellow Curry. It lacked the rich flavor I typically expect from a Thai curry, and some of the vegetables seemed undercooked. The Eggplant Basil was also underwhelming. It lacked the distinct basil flavor that the dish is known for. Since we ordered the vegetarian version, it came loaded with a mix of other vegetables, which made it feel more like a generic vegetable stir-fry than an eggplant basil dish. The Pad Kee Mao was the standout of the meal. It had good flavor and was enjoyable, although the portion size felt a bit small for the price. Overall, the food was ok, but nothing really stood out. I've had better Thai food elsewhere, both in terms of flavor and value. While the experience wasn't bad, it wasn't memorable enough to make me want to return. For the price point, I expected more authentic flavors and better execution.

My only real complaint was the seating arrangement. My wife and I were seated at a shared counter-style table that was divided by a glass partition. While the partition provided some separation, I could still clearly see the people sitting directly across from us, along with all the eating noises and conversations. I personally prefer a little more privacy while dining, so that took away from the experience. I won't comment on the wait time because that's pretty normal for popular restaurants in San Francisco. The highlight of the meal was definitely the A5 Wagyu Ramen. It was absolutely delicious and worth ordering. The flavors were amazing, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting. Overall, the food was outstanding, and despite the seating arrangement, I would gladly return.

I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. We had it family style. The 3 of us shared it all. There was plenty to go around. None of us left hungry. I can't even pick a favorite. Maybe the numb and spicy which wasn't that spicy. It was just so good and flavorful. The soup dumplings were amazing. So much perfect flavor. They held together until the bite. So good. The hot and sour soup was plenty tasty. Not the best I've ever had but certainly among the best. The only thing I will say is that one of my companions can't have seaweed. The wonton soup was amazing but full of seaweed.
