    Beef Curry (large)
    Annie L.

Ordered their beef curry (large) for pick up. Order was ready when I arrived but no utensils provided for take out, unfortunately. I was deciding between their bento boxes or their beef curry and ended up with beef curry because I wanted a warm lunch. Seems like most of their food is served cold! Excellent flavor, portions (I recommend paying the extra and upgrading to large size), plenty of beef and potatoes. No seating, take out only.

Fantastic food great prices! Not much to say besides that. It's amazing for what it is an Asian delicatessen. Highly recommended!

Tried their Bento-box with a pork katsu and a salmon onigiri on the side. It wasn't bad, food is decent, but nothing super special. It's a bit pricy for the amount of food. But if you don't eat much, may be a good deal.

This spot is amazing. I got a little bit of everything from a couple salads, the soup and a salmon onigiri. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I want to try more of their menu! And it's perfect if you're looking to pair it with other food spots around the ferry building, as you can get small or big portions as desired.

Got to enjoy a lunch at Delica and it was so yummy! I ordered a number 4 with the asparagus salad and sweet and spicy chicken. All dishes were fantastic! The service was speedy and friendly. I will definitely be coming back!

It does my heart good to see Delica seemingly unchanged by time. The cases are still lined with cold salads and sushi specialties. Vegan options are admittedly still sparse, but graciously, clearly labels. Priced are death but you're buying into the experience. The hijiki salad is always a nice oceanic palate cleanser, something unique to the scene at the Ferry Building. I'm glad I can stop in for light snacks, if not a full meal.

sweet & spicy chicken, eggplant salad, wasabi garlic potato salad

Delica is my go-to lunch spot when I'm in the office and I appreciate the convenience that it's just a short walk away! I can always rely on their quick and friendly service and consistently delicious and authentic Japanese flavors. Though they're located at the heart of the Ferry Building and can get really busy during peak lunch hour, the line moves fast and I've never had to wait very long. This time around, I ordered the 2 salad + 1 main: eggplant and wasabi garlic potato salads and the sweet & spicy chicken. So yummy, filling, and flavorful and you can beat the price ($14) for such quality items. Delica has also catered for a couple of my office events and their portions are very generous and reasonable for their price points. I've also tried their other options such as their pork cutlets, salmon chowder, and sushi. All spot-on so you really can't go wrong with anything here!

I was so hungry after my flight to SF and this hit the spot. My friend and I each got the number 4: main, salad, rice. We got eggplant salad, white rice, and sweet and sour chicken. It was so good!! The breading on chicken wasn't too much and the sauce was not too sweet.

Salad Combo Plate with Hijiki and Soybean Salad and Vegetarian Eggplant Salad

Delica gets a lot of things right, from generous portions to expedient service to the freshness of the food, but ultimately the flavors are just lacking. Both the Hijiki Salad and Eggplant Salad (I was delighted to find they have a vegetarian version not listed online) have all the right players but they don't cohere into something truly delicious that would get me running back, especially within the context of the vast Ferry Building food offerings (there is simply not enough stomach real estate for all the dishes I'd like to try!). Nonetheless, the lightness of the food and the quality of the ingredients are appealing, especially given that they are dishes not easily found elsewhere, especially the Hijiki (for an exceptional version of this dish, try Ebisu in the Sunset). The amount of food is excellent, though given that it's not a full service restaurant with seating or complimentary water, the price point is high in that it is as costly as non-deli eateries. Overall, Delica is a strong option for a vegetarian enjoying the atmosphere of the waterfront with a quick meal, but it's not a destination unto itself.

    Bento 1 ( 2 salads & 1 main)

The food here is absolutely on point. Very classic Japanese take using California ingredients. You can tell everything here is fresh and you can absolutely taste it in the food. I got a bento 1 with 2 deli salads and a main. They have multiple different options for bentos so pick your own adventure. In my bento I got the wasabi potato salad, the green bean salad, and the chicken meatballs. I also got a side shrimp cake which despite being under the heat lamp was extremely crispy even after walking to our table by the end of the pier. Would absolutely come back and recommend. This is simple food that's meant to showcase good ingredients and Japanese flavors.

I've walked by this Japanese deli countless times and finally decided try their food. There was a short line on a Tuesday afternoon but it moved by relatively quickly. Since I wanted to try a variety, I picked the No. 1: 1 Salad + 1 Soup + 1 Main ($14.00 + $1.00 upcharge for Salmon Chowder) +Hijiki and Soybean Salad was crunchy and refreshing. +Salmon Chowder was served hot: It was comforting with soft carrots and potatoes. +Tofu Chicken Patty was flavorful and tender. -Salmon Chowder was topped with a small amount of fishy salmon. -Tofu Chicken Patty was served cold. -Portions were on the smaller side. Side notes: 1.) No spoon provided for Salmon Chowder. 2.) No seating available, but there are spots inside and outside the Ferry Building. *Verdict: I'm glad I finally tried this spot, but I don't plan on returning.

2 salad plus 1 main: Eggplant salad, hijiki soy bean salad, plus tonkatsu combo.
    Selina L.

Line was very efficient. I only had to wait about two minutes to get my food. I asked if the mains were hot since I see them just sitting at the display counters and the staff told me they can heat it for me if I'd like. My two salad plus one main combo was the mabo chicken eggplant salad and hijiki soy bean salad with two pieces of tonkatsu (fried pork). The tonkatsu flavor was fine, but as expected this is more of a deli and so it's not freshly fried and crispy. The salads were very good. Healthy and flavorful. The restaurant is very clean. I would totally come again. I want to try some of their rolls and the croquet looked decent.

Stopped by Delica while exploring the Ferry Building it's a convenient spot with a nice selection of Japanese-inspired deli items. Overall, the food was okay, but not super memorable. I ordered the beef curry, spicy tuna roll, and shrimp cake. The beef curry was hearty and had a mild, comforting flavor, but felt a bit bland compared to other Japanese curries I've had. The spicy tuna roll was fresh, but pretty basic for the price. The shrimp cake had a nice crisp texture, but lacked seasoning , I was expecting a bit more punch. Service was quick and friendly, and everything was nicely packaged, but for the price and the location, I hoped for bolder flavors. Not a bad choice if you're in the area, and it's difficult to find a place to sit down and enjoy other than go outside to find a table so i probably wouldn't go out of my way to return.

Food 4/5: we ordered the pork katsu rice bento with mini creamy ramen and the Yu Ling chi chicken bento with the spicy miso mini ramen. Everything tasted fresh and hot. We particularly liked the pork katsu, it was perfectly crispy, juicy and well seasoned with the katsu sauce. The ramen didn't have much topping (just scallion and Naruto) but the soup and noodles texture were great. I was looking forward to the Yu Lin chi chicken but was not a big fan of the sauce flavor, it was salty and slightly one note. Rice was well cooked in the bento but I could do without the edamame, they weren't cooked long enough so it was hard to get out of the shell and bland. Service 3/5: we were seated pretty immediately but had to wait quite awhile before anyone served us, it might be because we were more towards the corner and the restaurant was busy. We had to get up to find a server to help us with checking out because no one ever came to check up on us. Ambiance 4/5: nice space, slightly cramped, but generally nice with the exposed brick walls and high ceiling. There's also outdoor seating available here.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. The pacing of the meal allows you to appreciate each course without feeling rushed, and the team's attention to detail creates a rhythm that keeps the meal engaging from start to finish. Kusakabe feels like a place made for special occasions, celebrations, or anyone looking for a more elevated Japanese dining experience. It combines technique, hospitality, and creativity in a way that makes the entire meal feel like an event rather than just a dinner. The balance of traditional and modern elements, along with the warmth of the service, leaves you with the sense of having experienced something complete and thoughtfully composed.

The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!

For $18, you get an incredible spread: * your choice of gyoza, shumai, or tofu * a California roll or avocado roll * a protein of your choice Plus it all comes with edamame, miso soup, and seaweed salad. Honestly? That's my kind of deal. Everything we tried was delicious. In addition to the lunch box, we ordered a dragon roll and a dynamite roll, both of which were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully done. My husband went with the Una Ten Donburi. It was tasty, but at $30, it did feel a bit steep compared to the rest of the menu. The restaurant looked like your typical Japanese style space with the sushi rollers at the entrance and simple tables and decor. I do have two minor negatives worth mentioning. First, the edamame was cold and unsalted. I'm an edamame lover, and nothing beats it hot, freshly steamed, and generously showered in salt. So that was a little disappointing. Second, our server (I believe his name was Kayz) seemed visibly annoyed when we asked to split the check. As a server myself, I know this isn't rocket science, and guests should never be made to feel uncomfortable for something so standard, especially after there had already been a small mix-up with our roll order (we received two dynamite rolls instead of one dynamite and one dragon). We didn't make a fuss at the time because mistakes happen, but the attitude at the end definitely stood out. That said, the food itself was solid, the lunch special is a fantastic value, and overall we still had a good experience. I would absolutely return and would recommend this spot, just hoping for a smoother service experience next time.

However, at the last minute, I went with the $19 Ika Yaki, a whole BBQ squid sliced and saturated in teriyaki sauce with a dab of shichimi mayo (Photo 8). The portion was generous and the texture was firm with enough elasticity. Unfortunately the teriyaki sauce did nothing to enhance the dish, and I wished they served it on the side. I also ordered the $8 Agedashi Tofu, usually a foolproof appetizer for me. It certainly looked right (Photo 9), but I was unpleasantly surprised how tongue-burning hot it was. The cubes of tofu must've just come right out of the deep fryer. The dashi broth helped calm the heat down but a little too late. I'm sure glad I sprung for the $3 bowl of Rice (Photo 10). "Inexpensive Japanese in downtown San Francisco financial district"…read more My son and I stopped here for dinner randomly on a Friday night just before 6pm. He just visited Japan a few months ago and had a hankering for some chicken katsu. It's a small, narrow establishment, not far from the See's Candy store, but well-lit. One orders on a set of tablets at the front of the restaurant and then sits down. I ordered the chicken katsu don, which has the chicken katsu above vegetables, rice, and egg. My son wanted the chicken katsu curry rice, and also was eager for the Takoyaki (which has octopus). There was a complementary water station in the back (which we didn't notice before ordering bottles). I was impressed the entrees were all under $20 before tax and tip-- great for downtown SF. We didn't anticipate complementary miso soup, but we got it, and it was tasty. The takooyaki arrived next-- maybe 6 pieces and quite good. When you pop it in your mouth and bite, you get a burst of milk-like flavor in you mouth. I frankly couldn't taste the octopus, but that's OK... it was still yummy. I really liked my chicken katsu don-- I wanted some veggies, and the cabbage underneath was good, as was the seasoning. The chicken itself was excellent. My son said it wasn't quite as good as in Japan but agreed it was still good. The portion size was big-- I wasn't quite able to finish all the rice in mine. Service was fine-- I don't remember them checking on us after we got food, but we really didn't need anything since we'd already paid, water was available, etc. The restaurant itself was clean, too. I did stop at the washroom upstairs, and it had nice wooden floors, a large plant, etc., and clean overall. Overall, a solid choice at an amazing price for the area, so I'm happy to give 5 stars.

Such a cute pop-up! I hope that it stays around for a while. This time I tried the kinako Matcha. I…read morethought that it was pretty strong in the kinako with a very neutral, roasty flavor. There's some simple syrup available if you want to make it seeeter There is a bunch of seating indoors and it seems like there are a few outlets as well. It's a fairly small place so it might be hard to expect seating. It also seems to be quite busy anytime I go. Service is really nice and knowledgeable about the drinks. Can't wait to go again to try the espresso!

Arrived around 3 pm on a Friday. Initially planned to order a drink + sando, but kitchen had…read morealready closed. Picked up an ready-made pork belly onigiri at the counter and ordered the kinako matcha latte. The onigiri is not the best bang-for-buck item if you need more than a snack. The kinako matcha latte was delicious. Nice nutty flavor from the soybean powder without it overpowering the matcha. Delicately sweet too. This is not a WiFi cafe. I missed the memo on this, so hopefully this helps other planning to shoot off some emails on a laptop. The restrooms exist, but are difficult to find. You need to exit the shop, walk about 100 feet, enter a business lobby, and ask for a key from the security desk. They'll direct you towards the personnel bathroom with two sets of locked doors that the front desk will remotely buzz you into.

The first couple of times was great and then it started to fall off later on. Including the texture and flavor not hitting as hard and the fact that it's closed on weekends now. Impossible for non wagies to go there, meaning I can't have any when I'm there on weekend vacation I guess, but with how everything closes early and is dying in Bay Area, I'm somehow not surprised. Very tiny spot and not much seating, so you're either taking it to go or you're praying there's a chair and a counter that's free. No big deal since I've been to other Japanese curry places like this. I've had a mix bag where the katsu was deliciously crispy and moist on the inside and days where the meat inside is dry, even drenched in curry. Hot curry sauce is Japanese hot, so it has spices in it but not spicy at all. The workers do their best for the lunch rush, so that's a plus at least. Overall, it was okay, but man the times sure have changed.
