This place is a cool little venue here in Fountain Square. Depending on the event, it can be hit or miss. I've had some really great times and I've had some really poor times, but in general, I do love this place. This is also a place that has really has changed with the remodeling. I remember a few years ago, it seemed very small and intimate, but key word very small for a place of what they're trying to do. However, they closed it down for a month or so to revamp it and it's like a whole new spot. The environment is nice, the bathrooms were remodeled, newer hardwood floor and nice little stage. They hold these events every month called Low Pone, which is great for the LGBT community. Sometimes this event is hit or miss for me. There have been times I've had great times dancing and watching all of the local performers doing what they clearly love to do. Sometimes, I've had moments where it can be overwhelming and I think you can see that sometimes with some of the staff. A few weeks ago, I had a strange moment in there even though I was only there for five minutes at the most and some weird misjudgment. At first, I was incredibly annoyed, but I quickly got over it, because things happen and that's ok. However, I do suggest Low Pone if you are ever looking for something to do, especially if you are in that community. The Hi-Fi also really brings in some names that you wouldn't imagine or even have forgotten about and I think that is amazing. Also, quite a diverse range of concerts they bring. I know here either next week or the week after, they're bring in Tennis. A few weeks ago, they brought in David Archuleta I saw and I was like "WHOA BLAST FROM THE PAST." They also really get involved with some of the local festivities in Fountain Square, such as the Virginia Folk Fest, which I really recommend if you're looking for something to do and they did things with the Fountain Square Music Fest. I love the idea of FSMF, but debating why it's great with some negative nancies on Nextdoor can be a little exhausting. Back to the point, the drinks at Hi-Fi are a little pricier and a lot smaller. They do have quite a selection of beer usually on the other hand. The Hi-Fi in general has a lot to offer, so if you are in the Fountain Square/Downtown area, look up to see what kind of events they are having and go! Last weekend my husband and I went to a concert at the Hi-Fi. I had never been there, I just knew that it was a small concert venue. What I really like about small concert venues in general is that they are more personal and a better way to get to know the artist you are watching. When we walked in, they stamp your hand and check your ID so you're able to not worry about your ID once inside the venue. We liked the musical decor with the lights being cymbals and the draft beer handles being drum sticks. Since it was a small venue, my husband and I were able to go to the front of the stage and spend the whole concert front and center. It was definitely a fun and unique experience. Especially since we didn't have to pay for the front row. The night was just a fun night out on the town with my husband. Great small venue to see an act. It's very cozy and there's a fully stocked bar with friendly bartenders. The show I saw there also had a big container of free water available to keep people from dehydrating, which was a nice touch! Small cons are that parking near can be a bit rough. And the venue is so small that nationally touring acts who come through with 50-watt stacks simply have too much amp for such a tight venue. I don't mind volume, but definition is completely lost with a big half-stack amp or two blaring away in that close a space. That's less the Hi-fi's fault than bands' faults for not having equipment sized appropriately for the venue, but worth mentioning. read more

I recently attended an outdoor concert at the hi-fi and had a blast! We were able to purchase tables at the event, although I realized once there they were allowing people to bring in soccer chairs to sit in. The security staff was very aware and often reminded concert-goers to keep masks on. The alcohol selection was a bit odd. The only draft beer they had at the event was Sun King and then PBR and Lone Star bottles. Ultimately it was nice to be at a show again with a staff that was very cautious and mindful of COVID-19 precautions. Would love to attend in the summer when it's warmer or for an indoor show! My favorite of the Indy venues! HiFi brings a variety of great bands that deliver excellent sound in an intimate space. The venue is the perfect size & even sold out shows leave space so you aren't on top of other people. Additionally, for a reasonable price you can upgrade to VIP and get a table on a raised platform in the back. -- The bathrooms are a bit of a journey, so make sure to go before the show starts as to not miss anything! read more

As an Indy music fan, I'm surprised my first concert was just last week, at the Hi-Fi. I really enjoyed the vibe and size of the Hi-Fi. The sound of the venue was really special. It is a great size for an intimate night of music. With the couple hundred people there, it got a bit warm but, not overwhelmingly hot. We stood in back by the sound board and door and we just happened to be in the line of everyone walking to and from the bar. That was a bit uncomfortable during the entire show but, to be expected in a venue. I thought the local beer selection was great, with fairly average prices for a pint. I will be back to the Hi-Fi for future shows. read more

It's in the middle of the neighborhood and the vibe here is very much like my home neighborhood 'Wick Park' in Chicago. I've been here for two shows and had two different experiences so I'm glad I waited to review. I first saw K.Flay here and did the VIP and had seats at the back. It was my first time to the venue and I was so excited to see her. The sound was terrible. It ruined the concert. I'm not sure who decides on that, the artist, or the sound engineer, but it was so loud and it was really hard to enjoy her. I saw Matt Nathanson was coming and really wanted to see him, but was hesitant due to my last experience. I decided to go for it and upgraded to VIP as that is definitely the way to go if you are not into standing for three hours! You do have to pick your bracelet up at will call, which is outside the building. Our table was marked with my name and we had easy access to the bar. I wish there was a secret passageway to the restrooms.. wouldn't that be a dream?? It's near impossible to get through the crowd as no one wants to give an inch since they think you are trying to squeeze in, not by. And, I'm not sure if the man in the wheelchair chose the back of the room to try and be safe, but his foot was elevated and I was so afraid if I didn't hit it by accident, some other person would. Matt Nathanson was so worth all of it though. He was amazing in this venue-so intimate and he interacted with the crowd so well. I love when a concert like this goes so incredibly right and makes you a fan of the venue! It's definitely one of the top concerts I've ever been to and will look to go to another one there now as well! read more

Have to agree with all the other reviewers that this is a great place to see a show. Great atmosphere and acoustics, great beer choices. Nice mix of ages, rednecks, hipsters, races, gay/straight enjoying the show. Very affordable too, lots of eating choices nearby, and loads of free street parking. This is a wonderful music venue! It's taken me way too long to finally get over here. I'm glad I finally did. The two bartenders were super personable and friendly - I'm a huge fan of them as of now. Great guys. The beer selection and the cocktail list were both great and prices are reasonable. Not to mention, they sell ear plugs as well. If there is a band you are interested in playing at Do317 I strongly recommend you give it a shot. It is small and intimate which comes with two main advantages for me. There really isn't a bad view, and they dont play so loud that you're left with permanent hearing loss (I know I'm old). However there are a couple disadvantages. It is pretty difficult to find on your first visit, and there are about 10 places to sit in the entire place. So if you don't mind a bit of an adventure and standing through a concert I think you'll have a good time here. read more

This room in the Murphy Arts Building can be a trick to find, just have to use the backdoor by Red Lion Grog House and take the stairs up and just keep going straight. Great intimate venue to see small up and coming bands. If you want a good seat better get there close to doors opening. Also don't expect shows to start when they say they start, shows always seem to start 20-30 minutes after posted start time. read more

The HI-FI is a great venue for live music. I have seen so many shows here and almost every time it is a band I have never really listened to but I am never disappointed. This venue has expanded my taste and my knowledge. The atmosphere is nice too. They usually have a good selection of local craft beer. The prices are slightly higher than most places for draft beer but at the same time they are a music venue and when taking that into account, it is still way cheaper than most with a vastly better selection. They bring live music to The Fountain Square neighborhood which is super convenient especially since I live close by. I do wish they would take slightly better care of the trash people leave behind in front of the venue outside but it has improved when they first opened. Great place to see a show in Indy! read more

How have I not reviewed this place yet?! I absolutely love everything about this place. From the artist choices to the drinks to the owners! The HiFi has shows going on throughout the week. The price is afforable and they even have free shows! It's such a great place to check out new music. I've gone to a ton of shows without knowing a single song from the band and then completely falling in love with them. It's more of an intimate setting. It's not the biggest venue and is narrow, but the view is great from anywhere. They also have local dj's that come and dance parties. First Friday shows are great to go to as well. My favorite music venues are the smaller ones so I was excited to try the Hi-Fi. It's a really cool space in a great location (where the Indy Swank clothing store used to be) in Fountain Square. I love the design of it, especially the band posters that decorate the walls. It's small enough that you can actually be close to the performers. I was there for the Future Folk show. There is a nice selection of beer on tap at the bar. The acoustics were great. My only complaint is that the sound was turned up too loud. Does that mean I'm too old? read more

The Hi-FI is a fantastic venue, as long as you go in with the understanding that it adequately serves the artists and fans it aims to serve. If you're looking for a venue that can fit a substantial crowd, then HI-FI is not for you. But, if you're looking for an intimate space with superior acoustics, then there are few better options anywhere. The exterior is modest and unassuming, but upon entering the venue you will pleasantly surprised by the set up. The large bar is to the right and stretches about three-quarters of the wall space. The floor leads up to the stage and provides ample viewing spaces and a good view from almost anywhere. The backdrop to the stage serves as much as art as it does an acoustic drop. From where I stood, which was in front of the stage, the acoustics were great and there was no echo throughout the space despite the high ceilings and wood floors. The beer selection is impressive, and the drinks are priced adequately for a venue. My only complaint was the floors which made a loud noise every time you moved due to years of spilled beer. Overall, the venue is great for an intimate show. read more

Man, I LOVE this place. As a musician, I'm probably harder on music venues than the general public. You go to a music venue to hear music, and if the sound person doesn't know what they're doing, it can ruin an otherwise good night out. And, it's pet peeve time. If you're at a show, and can't hear the band clearly, it's likely NOT the bands fault. We musicians are at the mercy of the sound person. Good.....REALLY good sound people are hard to find. The Hi Fi has STELLAR sound people. One thing keeps me from giving it a 5 star rating. There aren't enough seats. I'm older, and standing for long periods isn't just inconvenient for me, sometimes it'd painful due to multiple pins and screws in one of my legs. I just can't stand for a 2 hour show as I used to, and, unfortunately, that appears that may sometimes be the only option here. read more

I love this little venue. I say little because it's basically a shotgun room leading straight back to the stage with a long bar running along one side of the room and a very limited number of stools lined along the opposite side of the room. Yes, it's mostly standing room unless you arrive really early to snag one of the few stools. The bar has a nice selection of craft beer, and at times, has a couple of liquor drinks on tap such as Kissing Booth Punch; or you can choose your poison from the full service bar. The staff generally does a great job keeping up with the crowd. There's no problem hearing, as the acoustics boom through the n.arrow room. It's a nice place to catch some live music and maybe catch a first glimpse of tomorrow's next sensation. read more

Beer list is on point and is reasonably priced for a music venue. Really appreciated being recognized on my repeat trips to the bar by one of the bartenders. For me that goes a long way. Small and intimate, this venue really appeals to my love of music and the intimacy that comes with smaller venues. I want to be right up front and the HI-FI allows me to indulge in fangirling out. Really great addition to the Indy music scene - brings a diverse group of (usually up and coming) acts and thee covers are reasonably priced. The beer selection is expansive; but they were out/near out of a lot of options (or didn't have it cold). Overall good service, fun location and definitely a good (small) place to watch a show. Limited (no?) food...but so many great restaurants near by this isn't an issue, grab a pre-show meal at one of our local Ftn Square favorites: Pure, La Margarita or Revolucion. The Hi-Fi is my favorite music venue in Indy. I've seen some of my favorite bands here. The intimate space and high sound quality really makes for the best concert experience. Prices are pretty cheap, so I tend to check out bands I don't know too. They tend to have more folk and indie artist. Only complaints would be how hot it gets. I've had to leave in the middle of concerts just to get air. Also, people can be pretty disrespectful to the musicians playing by having loud conversations. It can completely ruin a concert, but I guess that's not the Hi-Fi's fault...just people who don't understand concert etiquette. read more
