The Christmas music playing inside sets the mood immediately, and the projector show adds this fun, whimsical touch that makes the whole experience feel special. Bingo anyone? The honey and I met friends for date night in Union Market and we continued the mid week couples date at Hi Lawn! I love Hi Lawn and never knew they had Bingo on Wednesdays! It literally got packed for Bingo! Super cute! Ambiance is causal and a great place to hang out with friends. Is it expensive? I would say it's reasonable considering the area. If you are balling on a budget don't come. The price point is definitely reflective of the client and customer they want. I get it and approve! Not sure why people complain, if you can't afford drinks at a premium while living in the city, stay home! Or go to places that don't have a high rent, clearly this place is not cheap! They serve Food! I haven't tried but by the looks of it, looks delicious! Have to definitely come back and try it out. I recommend! We arrived to Union Market on a Friday night and I just wanted a little rooftop time. We got an aperol spritz and a beer for about $24 dollars and then just sat and enjoyed them at a picnic table. The "show" was cool, but not quite what I was expecting. It looked like an AI generated loop between wintery scenes. We went on 1/26 which was a warmer day than we've had in the last few weeks so we had the opposite experience of the dome being far too warm inside and we were sweating while sitting there. I know they can't control the weather so I definitely recommend wearing layers so you can adjust! Also, since it's a dome the acoustics inside are interesting. You can hear what other people are saying from across the dome perfectly as if they're sitting right next to you. It's a cool effect and expected for a dome, but rather distracting and it was difficult at times to hear my friends at the table. Just a note for future goers to know. Service ~ Service was quick and our server was nice. Food and drinks came quickly after we ordered them. Also shout out for great service from Samantha with making the reservation- I had to reschedule our original time unfortunately and she was super kind and helpful with that process. Drinks ~ The drinks were yummy but overpriced. Not more so than any other bar in DC though! We enjoyed everything we ordered. We did not receive a liquid amuse though. Only water and what drinks we ordered. Food ~ We got the fondue raclette as well as the beef tartare. The fondue was yummy so I do recommend that. The beef tartare was ok but unfortunately made us really ill later that evening. I do not recommend it at all for this reason. Overall ~ Our experience was fun but not worth food sickness. Food sickness aside: I think the overall experience was good, but not worth the price. The deposit does not go toward the bill and is not refunded after as if it were a spot saver. So it was a price of entry that I don't think is worth it. Combined with the price of ordering 2 shareables for the table and 2 drinks per person, I couldn't justify coming again. This review is regarding the winter Snowglow at The Dome experience. The decor was super cute and festive. The winter wonderland setup with greenery, colorful tinsel, oversized metallic balls and tartan definitely set a cozy mood. That said, the 90-minute "Snowglow" experience itself was AI-generated visuals that began repeating after about 20 minutes. The Lo-Fi style background music didn't really elevate the experience, and overall it didn't feel immersive. Note: This isn't the Vegas dome or an Artechouse level installation. When we were first seated, it was unbearably hot inside the dome, but thankfully one of the servers turned the heat down. Our waiter was friendly and offered helpful recommendations. Drinks were decent but pricey. No surprise...it's DC. My Planes, Trains cocktail was enjoyable, though watered down by ice, and my husband liked the Reindeer drink as well. Food and drinks, however, are very overpriced for the quality and portions. $21 for the amount of coconut shrimp felt excessive, though they were actually pretty good. The food menu is extremely limited with only a small selection of snacks, sweets, and appetizers. Do not come here hungry. Portions are very small. Total cost for tickets for four plus food and drinks was $234. From what I understand, Hi-Lawn is really more of a casual beer hangout that's trying to transform into an immersive experience destination. Review for Snowglow: Pretty pricey for the hype that doesn't quite deliver. First you have to pay a $35 reservation fee per person that does NOT go to the price of your bill. You can only reserve up to 6, and only in even numbers due to their set seating. Completely limited to 90 minutes only, as the next seating is 30 mins following the end of the first. Tickets are non-refundable! We arrived late due to a random snow squall that showed up right as we were ordering an Uber. There is not great signage at Union Market to direct you to the entrance and the stairs are locked and you can only use the elevator at the corner of 6th Street to enter the venue. Entrance to the reserved venue seating is only permitted at the reservation time, but they do have a "lounge" where you can order many drinks off the menu. We ordered the spiced hot chocolate and it didn't taste like hot chocolate and didn't have a good flavor. The best part about it was the delicious marshmallow whipped cream on top. We were seated in the dome when we arrived. The seating is not comfortable but the ambiance is cute. The "show" is a 90-minute projection on the roof of the dome. It's pretty cool (literally and figuratively) and something different to enjoy. But does not live up to a $35 reservation. The amuse bouche was disgusting and cold because we were 15 minutes late. Service was good. We ordered the fondue and inhaled two orders of it between the two of us. It comes with toast, salami, radicchio, and apple to dip. We enjoyed several drinks but I think they were $18+. My favorite was Zurich Football Club--tastes like an Andes Candy! I know that we came on one of the coldest nights of the year, but it was so cold that we needed our coats on. In the lounge area, you need your coats! The heaters they had were simply not enough to match the temperature outside with the wind blowing through the tarped tent. This was something different to try, so I'm glad I did. Hi-lawn is a gem to the Union Market area. Anytime I can be on a rooftop, sign me up! Hi-lawn is on top of bustling union market. There's lot of parking almost at all points of the day since there are multiple garages that offer 3 hours of parking for free. Once you arrive you head up the stairs to the right of union market and while you're making your way up you can read the fun lyrics and quotes that are on each step. The rooftop has lots of picnic tables, regular tables and turf so you can hang out. On the Wednesday night that I went they were doing free bingo, you just had to sign up on Eventbrite. This was a really fun activity for my friends and I to do after a day of work and it was free. We easily ordered drinks and food at our table without talking with a server which made it very convenient. Minutes later our beers, cocktails and food all came over. They have a decent selection of IPAs, non-alcoholic drinks and drinks like margaritas/mules etc. To me I think the food and drinks are a little pricey but Hi-lawn does offer nice views especially during sunset. My friends ordered nachos (they were ok), curly fries (delicious), quesadilla (meh) and hot dogs (they looked like your regular dog, nothing special). I'll definitely be back to just hang out or maybe even try one of their monthly workout classes that always look like fun. Check it out if you're in the NE area. I stopped by Hi Lawn for the first time for the Night Market, which frequents new venues so that Washingtonians have the opportunity to indulge in Asian culture for both food and culture. They had a variety of vendors and their own bars for the locals to enjoy. I can definitely say that Yunnan was my favorite option. I will say that I wasn't able to try as much as I wanted to for the simple fact that it was completely packed. I understand that everyone wanted to get in as quickly as possible. However, a little more door control would've been appreciated for the good of all. This wasn't my first Night Market, however it will most likely be my last one at this venue. I usually like to write positive reviews but the "Peak Bloom: Dome Experience" is definitely a place to avoid (for the price) . With all charges, it came to $28/person to sit in a tent and drink bad cocktails and eat sub-par food. The projections are lovely however, you cannot really hear the music/sounds and we moved around the tent. The staff inside were great. The staff manning the mobile bar at the entrance, not so much. We came here on a Friday closer to 10pm in April. We took the elevator up. They have a pretty large roof area and the weather was nice. It was not crowded so we found a table to sit easily. Then we scanned the QR code to place our order. They came with our order fairly quickly. We just ordered drinks and one thing of fries. My drink included lavender and the taste took over the drink. If I came back, I would try something different. The fries were nothing special and the salt was not evenly distributed throughout the fries. They did well for munching food while drinking. The lobster bisque was ok but had not lobster chunks or even bits. The fondue had amazing cheese. I came with my friend the other evening and we ordered what we thought was a fishbowl drink to split for $22. Now, I was assuming that true to its name, we'd be served a pretty large drink in a typical fishbowl-style glass, fitting for 2 people. $22 seemed pretty appropriate at the time, but when the drink came out, we were sorely mistaken. There's both bench/table seating and faux grass that you are welcomed to set a blanket out on. There's corn hole available to play on the grass. We sat at a table but you can also sit on the artificial lawn and if you do that, you can bring in food from Union Market. Whether at a table or on the lawn, you order drinks/food from a QR code. It's super easy and quick, which I love. Staff is friendly. I highly recommend a reservation because without one, we waited over an hour. I stuck with an Aperol spritz-like drink which was good. Great addition to Union Market, Hi-Lawn might actually be the biggest draw for the place now. I highly recommend a reservation, because you can get them from their website pretty easily. We got ours just two days in advance for around sunset. You can sit in a "lawn lounge," which is a small table, a picnic table, or on the artificial lawn itself. You order food and drink from a QR code, and someone brings you the items. They are surprisingly efficient, and since all ordering and payment is on the app, it's super convenient. The menu is beers, frozen cocktails , aperol spritz, etc. Think summery, cold drinks to keep you refreshed on a warm summer's day. At the time being, theu have Oktoberfest food items like giant pretzels. Yumm. This past Saturday, they had live music from Hand Painted Swinger, a great cover band. Remember live music? It's even more magical than I remember, epsecially outside. The place was really rocking. They do a good job keeping tables spaced, so we felt very comfortable, and in case you're wondering, the whole lawn is open air, no roof in sight. This does mean inclement weather can cause cancellations, but if you get nice weather, there aren't many places in town that are more pleasant for a drink. To get food or drink you have to scan the QR code on the round plate where your group is seated. Their menu will come up on your phone, and you place an order through the phone. Our cocktail came eventually (unreasonably long wait; few people on the roof at that time). But the curly fries never came. We had to go to the food stall to chase up, and yup the fries were sitting right there (we showed them our order on the phone; they let us take it). Bad service. It seems you need reservations. Our friends probably made a reservation for our group. When we arrived (it was a Thursday night at 7:30 pm) the staff asked if we have a reservation. Came here to bid farewell to friends who were moving to California. As for views, not much really. There's a huge construction site next door (a huge hole). Elevator is super slow. Along with this we ordered some drinks and one of them had no alcohol despite the description including it, once I brought it up to the waitress she kindly said she'd remake it and brought one back in a different color while mentioning it was on the house. The drink once again had no alcohol and she actually left it on the tab. We were skeptical about the food to begin with since it seemed over priced, and the decision to not purchase any ended up being a good one considering some other reviews mentioned it made them sick. This place is HUGE & a really cool place to get your fitness on but could get really hot since it's full sun exposure. There is also a great view of Gallaudet (hearing community university). There is a little bar in the back & tables surrounding the entire perimeter. The steps, & I mean many flights, to get up there had me dancing as each step had a line from Wrappers Delight " I said a hip hop the hippie to the hippie", lol. I love Hi-Lawn! A wonderful rooftop with a great atmosphere, casual vibe, and also good music. My coconut creamsicle drink was phenomenal and the drinks my friends had were equally delicious. We came on a Monday night without a reservation and easily found a spot. There's a ton of picnic tables and generally a lot of seating plus the lawn itself you can bring a blanket and sit on (though no one was sitting on the lawn when I was there). Make a reservation if you can but I think they keep space open for walk-ins. Things to keep in mind: 1) don't come on a hot day, being on the roof here is awful during the daytime as there's no relief from the sun but on a nice breezy summer night it's excellent. 2) you can't bring food from union market. I've never had any of the food here but compared to all the great options downstairs I wouldn't bother. 3) the drinks are expensive and 20% gratuity is added so you could easily pay $18 for one drink. We live in the Union Market area and often go to eat, shop and enjoy events nearby. I can easily say Hi-Lawn is the WORST of any and all of your options. It was always mediocre in terms of service and quality, but today reached new heights of absurd. My spouse, 20 yo, and 16 yo made a 3.30pm reservation for the Pancakes and Pajamas" @ Hi-Lawn on NY Day. Before we went, we looked at FB and their IG to get a sense of the activity and were very much looking forward to games and the alpine tent environment. Nothing stood out in terms advisement. However, we arrived for our 3.30pm reservation and were told we could not enter because our group included our 20yo and 16yo and they aren't 21+. (Okayyyy....!?) It is legal in DC for parents to dine w kids where alcohol is served with food so that wasn't it.... Turns out the VERY EMPTY Hi-Lawn became 21+ for the winter season because of "limited space" - which they "announced" a few days ago in size 3 font on a single ad for their event. Given there was almost no one there - we maybe saw 6 people?! - you'd think Hi-Lawn would pause a moment on the random misfortune of this rule. Or, better yet, the inept manager, Ryan (to whom we were referred), would be able to problem-solve at a basic level and respond with something beyond, "Sorry." How about customer service and seat us since clearly space was not a concern, parents were supervising their young adults for the breakfast meal and there is no legal reason not to serve us? Offer the adults a free drink on their next visit? (Although we will never go back, it would show some minimal concept of restaurant management.)
