I see my friends talk about this place all the time and they we're making me feel like I'm the only one who has never gone. Well I can finally scratch it off my list! My friends and I only got one round, but it was a great time. They check IDs at the entrance, and then you are in a consent wherever you want. You could hang out in the outdoor space or you can go to the covered area that has long benches like a typical biergarten. Hop in line to place your order -- one person takes care of your drink, and another person rings you up at the register nearby. The line was getting long but it was moving quite efficiently. I'm not much of a beer drinker, so I just got a cocktail (elderflower G&T) and it was great. The place got really full, but I enjoyed myself. It's smaller than some other biergartens I have been to in the city, but there's something about the vibe of this one that I like over the others. Went to Wunder Garten (WG) for a special event on a Saturday afternoon in April. They had a great mix of people--local, international, straight, gay, young, and some older folks. At late 50s, we were certainly at the top of the age spectrum; but we felt welcome. We had drinks and planned to have food, but gave up after the event and went to an indoor restaurant the next block up. The first thing you need to realize with this space is that it is an outdoor venue. Not a reason to lower the rating yet--just know what you're getting into. Yes, the Quonset hut is technically a permanent structure; and the cabanas are under cover. However, the hut is less than half the floor space; and the cabanas are all open-front. So dress appropriately. You will probably be shielded from the wind, but forget about climate control if it gets busy. So where did WG lose stars? Let's start with the bar. I asked for a Manhattan made with Woodford Reserve. What I got was a 2 oz pour of Woodford, neat. This was not a 'tall order'. If your bartenders can't mix a drink with literally two ingredients (...plus bitters, so maybe three), then you're just in the wrong business--minus one star. Also, they ran out of one of the beers on their menu. You're a beer garden. You had better have all the beers on your menu or some way to adjust your beer list throughout the day. The other star evaporated when we realized that there was nowhere to eat the food if we had bought some from their food trucks (...clever idea, by the way, replacing a fixed kitchen with food trucks docked to the venue). All the free seating--yes, you have to pay extra for the cabanas--are actual picnic tables. Unless you get there early or pay extra, you will have to stand (...in the weather) ...while you eat. Bottom line: ~$53 for a large mug (1L) of hard cider and a pour of whiskey, consumed standing up in 85 degree F weather. Versus next block: Two margaritas, one soda, one appetizer, two (amazing!) entrees, and one desert brought to us by a lovely waiter and consumed at a clean table while sitting on comfortable chairs in a 72 degree F environment for $122. We may come back to WG for a future event, but that will depend on the weather and our appetite for a standing-room-only experience. As for bringing friends? Nah--we'll just find a picnic table at a local park and skip the premium prices. read more

I stopped by Wundergarten for happy hour on an early Thursday evening. There are multiple seating areas in the garten cabanas, 2 pavilion areas and fire pits. The area we settled in was nice and toasty with long tables and couches. There was an option to order drinks and food to be brought to the table or go to the bar. I wanted a hot drink so I went to the bar which is located in the back pavilion. The bartender was pretty short with me when I ordered my mulled wine and stormed past me while I was liked with the piping hot drink way back to the area where my group was. Not only was this rude it wasn't safe because the cup wasn't covered. I liked the mulled wine, but I didn't care for the lemon garnish. Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Wunder Garten it's a cozy, casual spot that's perfect for groups. There are also tvs and they have events. read more

I came to Wunder Garten for a 30 and up Juneteenth event. The venue is incredibly spacious with various tented and uncovered areas, Instagrammable chairs and backgrounds, and a bar with TVs throughout. The tents came in handy as the heavens opened up on us. Thankfully, the DJs had a contingency plan and were able to move their equipment under the tent. The rain didn't stop us as more people arrived and kept the party going. The drinks were good and you were able to order food at the tables via a QR code. They have 2 different restaurants nearby that bring your order directly to where you're sitting, which I thought was pretty exceptional. read more

We come here every year for the DC Blues Society's annual DC Blues Festival. The beer selection is excellent, but sadly the food available from a local food truck is unacceptable. And -- the most comfortable seating is in the "cabana's" which must be rented for $60 AND they are mostly sitting empty. read more

Bouncer randomly gave us attitude about being the only ones there 30 mins before 1 am and they were closed. they told us they closed at 1 AM. It wasn't 1 AM. Rude attitude instead of kindly explaining something to us. He could not respond to what time they closed. When we arrived, he literally confirmed they close at 1 AM. So what time do they close??? Updated review: Although last year, I said that I would never return to Wunder Garten for a Eurovision-related event again. I guess the saying is never say never is valid in this case. Anywho, this experience was way better than my last one in 2023 because the AV for the event was great. Also, the staff was pretty wunderful. I'll say that I was a bit disappointed that the beer garden did not serve food. But, the beer garden is pretty cool with folks brining their on food, and they have menu QR codes for a couple of restaurants in the area. I was surprised (in a good way) that the restaurant delivery people can bring the food to your table instead of having you meet them outside of the garden. Overall, I hope to visit Wunder Garten in a the near future. read more

Dope spot! It was my first time coming here and I really loved it. I came here for the Barbie and women's World Cup event. The Barbie event was set up very nicely they had full bars, sports on the tv, and a themed bungalow. They have many themed events here. They had a women's soccer tournament game being played. Food suck!! The bratwurst had no flavor other then the mustard and the truffles & pamsena fries were super crispy but couldn't taste the truffle and the pamsena was lightly sprinkled. The service was super fast and friendly! The vibes or mostly the beers put people in the mood to play trivia games. I love the garden feel in the middle of the city. Such a cute bar especially when the weather is nice since it's outdoors. There is cover in case it rains. It's a very earthy vibe with plants all over. When I lived in DC I used to come here to watch soccer games. This past weekend I came to visit so I had to come watch Copa America and it's just as I remember it. I wasn't too hungry so all I had were the truffle fries (delicious!). There are a few food trucks to order from. I am no longer drinking alcohol so I appreciate that they have nonalcoholic beer! All of the employees I encountered were friendly and helpful. A huge plus is that it's dog friendly! I love when I can bring my dog with me. One of my favorite places in DC. I love attending trivia here weekly. They have changed out the food trucks a few times and while all have been expensive, they are all great quality food. There is a large enclosed tent which is where the bar and main seating area is. The seating in the main tent consists of rows picnic tables. There are a set of private eating areas that can be reserved. The bathroom facilities include either a port-o-potty or a recently added trailer with flushable toilets, though you do have to climb up stairs similar to a camper to get in so it is not accessible. Bar staff is super friendly and used to let me pick what football game to watch on the tv. They also have a limited selection of non-alcoholic beer options, but it is nice to have at lease one or two choices. read more

This place was so cute and festively decorated for the holidays. There are "indoor" and outdoor spaces with tons of seating so finding a place to hangout shouldn't be an issue. They have CaliBurger on hand for food but not sure if that's their standard or they have multiple food trucks in rotation. My friend and I came for the Office Trivia event but unfortunately showed up too late to participate. Figured we'd already drove into the city so we might as well cop a squat, get a drink and hang out for a bit. And while the trivia was over they were in the middle of a tie breaker so we got to live vicariously through the team names and the tie breaking questions (the full running time for the office series is 76hrs btw). After trivia was over they put the game on (Pacers Vs Wizards) which was a plus. They also had live music and plenty of space to dance. I had a Nasty Woman & my homegirl had the mulled wine. I enjoyed the nasty woman but she didn't like the wine, they were really cool about it and let her swap it out for something else. Service was fast at the bar and the bartenders were friendly. Bathrooms are outdoors, two handicap friendly port-a-potties and then slightly "upscaled" ones for multiple patrons. This is def a nice spot if you're looking for something lowkey in the city. Okay.. don't get me wrong this place is very cute especially at night.... Buttttttt.... They have a huge issue with mosquitos... being in such close proximity to others there's a huge question of health issues that may arise from this issue. They really should treat the place with some sort of mosquito repellent. I could not enjoy my drink in peace because of all the swatting and smacking of the little vampires.. The decor is adorable! - the beer selection is extensive - try the octoberfest beers! (Can't remember the name) - love that you can order directly from the QR code from the tables and the service is super fast!! Things I didn't enjoy so much: - staff can be hit or miss. During, my most recent visit the guy who checked ids was rude during our entire interaction. I won't go into details... but was VERY put off by that interaction. I simply went to the other side of the venue so I didn't need to be in his presence any longer. I attended the Halloween dog event which was funny and adorable. The drinks are a bit over priced if you want a Seltzer but the beers are decently priced. The food and drinks are on separate menus because the food comes from a food truck. It's a bit tricky to time if you want a drink with your food since they do come from separate vendors at different times. They have plenty of outdoor seething and a tent for indoor gatherings. I've been here a few times, and I'd have to say that other than the beautiful decorations and the nice staff, there's nothing much that this place offers in terms of food, and you can get similar food for a lower price elsewhere. The drinks are okay, but not recommended if you happen to be non-alcoholic or is not a long-term fan of some of their drinks to the point of going back for them. They had a burger truck on site and you go to pick up your order. I do wish they had some healthier options besides burgers, hot dogs, wings, and fries, but I suppose the above-mentioned do pair well with beer. I love a visit to Wunter Garten! It's been too long, that I've been away, but I was able to make a quick stop on a Monday evening. It was busy with trivia when we got there! Which is another great reason to visit! There's always something going on. We were too late for food, and really only came to enjoy a beer. They have great Oktoberfest beer/beverage options to enjoy as well as plenty of activities! I love all the semi private cabanas you can sit in with your group, the twinkle lights above are a nice touch in the evenings, and they have more open seating for larger groups with seating to enjoy a game or too depending upon the season! I was visiting DC for the weekend and bumped into a local friend who invited me and my friend to join her group for Winterfest here. I had never heard of this beer garden prior, so it was really cool to discover such a cute spot. They had tables inside a tent, as well as scattered around outside on turf with Christmas trees decorated, a random Santa chilling out, and just all-around lots of festive cheer. I ordered a random mix of drinks. First, a hot spiced rum cocktail (excellent) and another drink I can't recall. From there, I ordered a beer that was a no-show. The manager took it off my beer when I inquired stating it wasn't in stock, gave me a beer on him (thank you!) and then randomly, like ten minutes later, the original beer was dropped off to me. So I definitely shared the excess with the group! Honestly, I could've sat there all afternoon ordering off their Toast Tab and running up a tab, but my friend and I had limited time so eventually we had to leave to hit our next stop. Covid-19 Review: First time visiting and there was both an indoor and outdoor area. I walked in and it felt like I was in college at a keg party freezing my butt off. This was their aprés ski event with spiked hot chocolate. What to expect: -Chaos -Heat lamps with propane tanks dying and not emitting any heat -ZERO Covid friendly measures: absolutely no clean up after people leave, I never saw anyone wipe down a table and chairs, no hand sanitizer on any of the tables, people just left their trash everywhere -Drinks were very expensive for spiked hot chocolate $15-$16 and barely tasted any booze -If you sit outside and are hoping to get inside there is no organized method to facilitate that -Social distancing not enforced especially indoors -Our spiked hot chocolate drinks were good but we couldn't stay for more than one just due to the unsafe environment and no warmth to be found -Lots of dogs so very pet friendly -There are cabins you can reserve and rent for $$$$ which are enclosed with couches and heat I'd suggest bringing your own blanket if you plan on being outdoors, it was quite windy and since the setup is like a fort it feels like a wind tunnel. read more

I enjoy coming here especially in the Fall/Winter when they have their themed events and tents. I recently went for Oktoberfest (now through Oct 15th) and they had tons of games to play. There's plenty of outdoor seating with colorful cabanas, lounges, and picnic tables set up on their turf. Plants are scattered everywhere so it gives almost a tropical/jungle vibe. They have one of the best outdoor spaces in DC. They are following all the Covid protocols. As you enter they check your temperature and give you instructions on how to place your order. Every group of seats are placed at least 6ft apart and they either have propane fire pit or fire heater. Great place to visit during these tough times! For ordering food or drinks you have to use their online menu. I recommend creating your account if you're planning to stay longer or planning to visit again as it simplifies the process of ordering. Wide varieties of drinks are available. For food they have a food truck with few options. I ordered Nashville hot chicken with Tatar tots. It's was pretty good. Service was fast and efficient. Pricing is pretty nominal considering where they are located. Definitely recommend this place. Parking could be hard to find in this location. read more
