First visit a few months ago. I decided to buy in person rather than online. I came to the realization that, was a mistake. The pricing at the in store is not current. Sometimes the pricing is cheaper online, and it's reflected when it's scanned at the register. Also not all bourbon is in order. There was a bottle they definitely had , but I couldn't find it and took a few minutes for an associate to locate it. Therefore, I highly recommend to order online and pickup later. (I would have saved about 30mins ordering online ). Not that I'm complaining, just stating a fact. Pricing for scotch and non allocated bourbon is excellent. Lower than anyone , save Costco. I came specifically for a Laphroaig lore cask strength, $85. Grabbed a few other goodies. read more

I came in here confusing the name with Hi Time thinking they opened a new location. OMG their manager is rude! I was shopping for a gift and the person I assumed was the owner turned me over to the female manager because they didn't seem to speak much English. She talked to me like I was stupid and then got weird and aggressive when I asked if they had gift bags, telling me they charge for those. I was just asking if they had them! I wasn't asking for anything free, though that would have been nice considering I spent over $200 and then was snapped at like I was trying to get a handout. The young college kids working in there also get treated poorly by the stuff I overheard. The store is small, cramped, and they hover over you for taking a look. More security cameras than a bank. Just straaaaange vibes in there. Will just make the drive to Newport next time. read more

Honestly, I'm hesitant to leave this review because this place is my hidden gem of a liquor store. There are plenty of spots around Southern CA there are some in Corona, others in West LA, but having a store like this in OC is a total game changer. I no longer need to order online or drive miles to find what I'm looking for. The selection is amazing, the pricing is spot on, and the staff is friendly and genuinely knowledgeable. Their online store is always updated, and you can tell the owners stay current with trends and keep hard to find bottles in stock. This place easily beats Total Wine or BevMo. Very disappointed with how management and owner handled business last night. After ordering a bottle of Boss Hog XII online, I called the next day (yesterday morning Dec 17, 2025) to ask if I could change my order from being shipped to just picking it up instead, since delivery time looked like it would be over a week due to the holiday season. Person I spoke with (unfortunately didn't remember name) shared that he wouldn't be able to change it and that I would need to cancel order I made online so I could just pick it up later that day and pay for it in person instead. When I arrived around close to 6pm, I met Hector (awesome staff) ...I mentioned it was my first time buying anything from this store and explained that I called in the morning to update that I'd be picking up my online order in person instead. Shared that I'd look around and buy a couple of other items since I was here. About 45 min later, after including 3 champagne bottles and another bottle of whisky in addition to the Boss Hogg, I was surprised to see that the price had changed to the tune of $50 more. I shared with Hector that I wanted to pay what I just paid online last night and surprised to see the price change. He called another co-worker, David (another nice gentleman) who shared that unfortunately he couldn't honor the price I had paid online...so this is where it begins. I asked why when it makes no sense why I travelled all the way down after already paying for an order I made just the night before, just to come in and pay more. David said he can't promise anything but that he'd text the owner as he was in a meeting. A few minutes pass and he shares he'll reach out to his manager to see if the manager can connect with the owner, to confirm if they can honor the price I had originally paid. Owner gets back to David and shared they will not honor what I paid online, even though I kindly pointed out that no one mentioned when I called the same morning that if I come in to pick up and cancel online order for shipping, that they wouldn't be able to honor same price. Anyway, bad business practice period. As for a first time visitor and being a potential regular patron, they ruined my evening and experience. I'll be sure to pass the word along that Hi Proof isn't worth the visit, nor is it worth patronizing, especially since something so very simple in business, such as a simple courtesy, they couldn't even extend. For those looking for the same bottle that Hi Proof could have sold to me last night, go visit Valley Market Liquor in Walnut (they have a fantastic selection and the owners know how business is done right)...I just picked up the Boss Hogg XII and many more bottles to accompany it today for $10 less. This is a pretty robust whiskey store. With this said, they unfortunately don't carry the bottle I was looking for. Also the guy who was helping me wasn't too knowledgeable about whiskeys yet as he was just getting into it but that's ok, I didn't fault him, I just felt that maybe he should have directed me to someone else. So I guess the real lesson learned is, come here if you know exactly what you want. read more

Stopped in randomly because I was curious about the in store experience vs buying online. There were quite a few nice bottles in the store but for those without prices, we just inquired with the staff. They were pretty friendly and helpful. They were also quick to answer any questions that we had. It was quite nice inside and the shelves were pretty well and organized neatly. A handful of other people were also shopping at the same time but had placed online orders which the staff had picked and boxed ahead of time. The store was a bit in disarray and we needed to be careful that we were avoiding products on the floor while walking around. They honestly have quite the selection when it comes to all types of spirits. I would definitely visit if in the area again. I'm pretty upset with my experience here. I went in looking for a bottle as a gift for my brother-in-law and made it very clear to the employee that I wanted something not smoky. That was literally my only request. The bottle they recommended ended up being extremely smoky--to the point where it's completely undrinkable for someone who doesn't like that flavor profile. It cost me over $160, and when I contacted the store, the employee did apologize, but basically said there was nothing they could do--no return, no exchange, no real solution. I trusted their recommendation and spent good money on a gift that now feels like a complete waste. Disappointing experience and not the kind of customer service I'd expect for that price point. Order arrived with a damaged box and a bottle with a broken seal. Immediately sent an email with pictures showing the broken seal. They responded the seal is slightly misaligned and asked how I wanted to proceed, I stated the seal is completely broken and I wanted a replacement or a refund with no response. I sent several follow up emails and phone calls. They stopped responding to emails and phone calls. A week has passed with no response. Horrible customer service. read more

One of the better whisky and bourbon spots in Orange County, Hi Proof has really filled a void for finding fair-priced allocated bottles that is missing from larger chain stores. I've purchased here twice and have been impressed with the selection. They have a seasonal Sazerac special- where you can make a minimum purchase to allow for lower prices on BTAC and other allocated bourbon bottles. It's a great deal and service has always been friendly upon pickup. Would recommend Hi Proof as a great locally opened spot for whisky, bourbon and spirits. read more

Bait and switch, but with proof. Bought a bottle thinking it was Balcones 146.4 proof as advertised on their website. Took it home and it was 125 proof Balcones. Same bottle shape and label. So I called 2 days later and someone there told me to bring it back for a refund. I get there five days later and they told me that the refund was not possible. I think this is a their plan to get rid of their old stock that they cannot sell. I buy a lot of bourbon, but at this point, I will not be returning to High Proof. Simple refund or exchange for another item would not leave a bad taste in my mouth. Bad customer service and bad business practice. This is response to the owner. First, you are completely wrong assuming that I'm returning the bottle because I had change of mind. Second, bottle was behind the locked glass. When customer asks for the bottle, and you have several different bottles, it would be nice to ask which bottle you prefer. Lastly, one of your employee, on the phone, said I can return the bottle. You as an owner should properly train your employee, so that they don't give false information over the phone. read more

They have a very nice collection of all kinds of spirits. They even have some spirits you wouldn't expect or think of. That's how I found out about Brazilian liqueur. The tastings and experience are awesome, and they sure hit. The prices are great too, which is a plus for most people. The rum I bought is good and I'm not much of a sipper, but it's perfect.
