I am a repeat customer, and I had such a great experience the first time that I didn't even bother calling anyone else when I wanted to fix more of the floors in my condo. I knew Andy and his crew would take the best care of my job, my house, and be communicative during the process. Just like the first time, I had an outstanding experience with him on this job, too You can see the old tiles present in the 2 "old floor" pictures; they were dated looking, and the grooves between the tiles made the floor hard to clean. The new floors look much nicer, and have only the tiniest grooves, which should be much easier to clean. Further, while it's hard to show in pictures, the old floor was not level, either, so Andy made sure to use some leveling solution to make the floors level before putting down the new flooring. Just like last time, he taped down protection for my existing hardwoods, put plastic over things to keep the demolition dust off of as much stuff as possible, and he always cleaned up the worksite when it was reasonable to do so. A++ experience. Closed on a house recently and had very limited time before the movers were scheduled to bring all of the furniture in. I spoke with Harry and he was responsive and extremely professional as well as knowledgeable. The house was built in 1914 with hardwood throughout with details like walnut inlays and herringbone parquet, and although the floors looked decent, we weren't sure what should be done while we had the opportunity. Harry showed up on time for a consultation and and was extremely knowledgeable (he removed the heating duct return to show us the floors as well as the Douglas Fir subfloors underneath). And above all he was honest and fair unlike some others who pushed hard on upselling and told us the floors needed to be sanded when that was unnecessary and when there weren't that many sandings left in the life of the floor. He provided an estimate right away for a buff and coat - None of this flakiness that is unfortunately so prevalent these days (We had another company show up to provide an estimate and they never even bothered to follow through). And the best yet - he was able to fit us in on short notice. The work was performed on time with great attention to detail - runners on the landing were covered, doors removed, pics of work in progress texted to us, he even returned to nail down a piece of the parquet that was sticking up a bit after the job was completed. All in all the best experience we've ever had with getting floors redone and at a reasonable cost. We couldn't be happier with the results and couldn't recommend this company more - I believe it's a family business run by Harry and his dad and the pride in providing top-notch expertise, work and service really shines through! read more

Andy and Harry, a father and son team, have decades of experience between them working in SF. When I first reached out to Hi-Tech Hardwood, Harry made himself available the next day to inspect our floors and to provide a quote. He explained the process thoroughly and provided pictures of recent projects they had completed similar to our floors (oak parquet flooring in the same neighborhood, built in the 1920s). Harry offered a demo where he came back the following week to sand a section of the floors to test different colors/finishes. Happy with the demo, we paid our deposit at this point. Andy and Harry were able to squeeze us in the week before Christmas to refinish the entire top floor of our home. They even helped us move some of the larger pieces of furniture! I have a small linen closet that had water damage to the hardwood floor. The area of the floor is only 25"x 26" . 16 small boards would wood need to be removed and replaced. The owner came out and estimated the job at $750. He bragged a lot about how great he was, how meticulous he was in the jobs he does. I asked him if he could do it for a little bit less? He complained about he's getting older and have an assistant to bring the equipment up. He would have to hire a worker to bring the equipment up the stairs. In short, he was all talk and not much expertise. he did not follow the normal protocols for replacing the hardwood, and the clear coats that go on after the stain has dried. He took short cuts, and when I questioned him about some of the things he wasn't doing, or how he was doing something , he would say I am being too picky about how he was doing the job. One board he cut in half to make two pieces instead of doing it in one. When the first clearcoat was put on, he put a strong fan blowing in the closet to dry, but it stirred up all the dust from the sanding that was in the closet and it went into the lacquer and he tried to say the rough feel was normal?? I showed him the floor right next to it outside the closet that was smooth and he said it will never be like that. It felt very gritty to the feel!! Then he wanted me to do the second coat and I said no that's what I'm paying him for, so when he came back to do that, he complain the whole time that he had to lightly sand and put on the second coat. He got mad and said oh I had to come here three times to do the job!! I gave you a good price, which was not. Then he says I am not coming back again. This is it. And I said that's fine with me. Actually, his pricing was very high For such a small job!! He never brought that person. he said he was going to bring the things up into my home. All in all, he's not as good as he portrays himself to be. He's living in a alternative universe of how great he is. I do not recommend him at all !!!!!! read more

After living with old and peeling parquet floors for two years, we decided that we wanted real hardwood in our downstairs area. It is relatively small, about 330 square feet, but very oddly shaped. We had a couple of people provide us estimates for our floors. Andy was by far the most knowledgable; he asked us questions that the other people hadn't, and gave us a more detailed rundown of both our options and the tradeoffs and potential risks associated with our project. Specifically, hardwood is thicker than the parquet flooring, and that had implications for our appliances and how they lined up with the counter space. He gave us the option of either installing on top of the existing flooring, which would have been faster and cheaper, or ripping it out and re-leveling the floor (which we chose to do). The work was done extremely efficiently. We were able to begin the work within a week of agreeing to the estimate. The entire process, from demolition to finishing, took from Tuesday to Saturday, and we were able to move furniture back and start using the space by Sunday. The work itself is beautifully done. We love our floors, and you can see from the photos that he did excellent work. Once finished, he provided us with some care tips and equipment to protect the floors, which we really appreciated. I had to find a flooring contractor on a very short notice to refinish my floor and called more than 10 companies found on Yelp. I met with 4 contractors - one was trying trying really hard to up-sell me, one seemed competent and nice but couldn't communicate very well and one didn't even bother to take measurements!. I ultimately chose Hi-Tech Floors because Andy came to the meeting very well prepared. He brought pictures of his previous work, color boards, took detailed measurement and was able to answer all of my questions without any high-pressure sales tactics. I also saw the pictures of the excellent work he had done in those beautiful old Victorian homes. I was also very specific about the materials that I wanted him to use on my floors and Andy had no problems with doing what I wanted. Anyway, long story short, Andy and his team did an excellent job on my floor. I had an outstanding experience with Andy and his crew at Hi-Tech. I am beyond pleased with the results and the level of service that Andy and his team provided. We needed to remove laminate floors and were uncertain what condition the hardwoods were underneath. Andy was professional and kept me in the loop throughout the whole process. Him and his team ripped up the old laminate floors in less than a day and he had recommendations on what we needed to do with the red oak floors underneath. Andy is the BEST! 1. He answered my phone calls promptly. 2. His estimate was $300 less than the other contractors I saw. 3. He and his assistant, Kevin showed up on the dot at 8:30 am. I had laminate flooring installed in my kitchen. I'd bought the flooring a year ago but then had to put off the installation for financial reasons. Other contractors refused to install something unless you had bought the flooring from them. One contractor said they charged $450 to move my fridge, stove and dishwasher. 4. He told me it would take one day. I didn't believe him. Guess what? He was here at 8:30 and the job was finished by 4:45 pm. That included moving my fridge, oven and portable dishwasher. He laid down cardboard to protect the floors they moved the stuff to. He put up plastic film to make sure no dust would get into the house. 5. He cleaned up after himself. Am I satisfied? You bet. Andy Tran of Hi Tech Floors is a business to be avoided at all cost. I contracted with him to install new floors at a rental unit in SF. The contract for 15K included removal of old floor installation of a leveling sub floor and installation of a new floor. I was given tile samples from which to select and made my choice of tile. I paid $8600 at start of work of the estimated 15K cost. The demolition and leveling sub floor installation seem to proceed without difficulty. The installation of the new floor was problematic. Not only was the tile installed NOT the tile I had selected but the tile was of three widely different colors and patterns. Additionally, each of the tiles was cut to a different and erratic length. The floor had the look of being made up of remnant pieces and not a new floor. Whether new or remnants this was NOT what I had selected, and the floor looked hideous. See picture below. I told Tran that this was not what I had selected and that this floor and this workmanship were unacceptable and that this floor had to be removed and replaced with the tile I had selected AND already paid. He resisted, insisting that all tile floors had variations. Finally, he removed the floor and told me to purchase new flooring which he would then install. I pointed out that I'd already paid him for the flooring and that his suggestion would mean that I would be paying double because of his error. He became defensive and argumentative. I contacted my lawyer and he was given a 7 day notice to remedy the situation, remove the unacceptable floor and install the new floor as per order or he would be terminated. He did not meet these conditions. BUT, during the seven day period there was an anonymous complaint file against me with the Department of Building Inspection reporting that this was an illegal in law and that plumbing and electrical work was being done without a permit. I wonder who filed that anonymous complaint Andy Tran? The apartment is a full legal unit and no work was being done without permits so the issue was resolved with a single phone call to the Building Inspector. Through my lawyer I informed Tran that I would pay him for the demolition of the old floor and installation of the leveling subfloor but would not pay for the flooring I'd not ordered nor for its installation or removal. I had paid him $8600 and was requesting a $4800 refund. He accused me of asking for the floor to be removed because of Buyers remorse. He has subsequently filed a Mechanics Lien against my property for $6900 allegedly to cover the cost of the floor, installation and removal. I have hired a new company to install the new floor and have been told that the leveling sub floor was improperly done and is not complete .The sub floor is not level .So more incompetence from Hi Tech Floors and Andy Tran and additional cost to me . Not only is this man incompetent , unprofessional and a poor craftsman but he's a liar, he's vindictive, he's dishonest and completely lacks integrity . My floors are solid hardwood floors and I was really sad to see what my tenant has done to it for the last 8 or so years. Deep scratches probably up to 5-6 mm possibly because of moving furniture. Andy did a great job of refinishing my engineered wood floors and making them look better than they did years ago. He explained the process clearly and it was obvious that he took a lot of pride in his work. He also seems to be of the "underpromise and overdeliver" type, which is much better than the reverse. He told me that my scratches and water damage probably wouldn't be fully gone with refinishing, but as far as I can tell, they look as good as new. After interviewing a number of refinishers, Andy was the most professional so hiring him was an easy decision, even though he wasn't the cheapest.
