I m looking for Churchill Makapu fins or the dolphin cut shape in another brand. So while I liked the looks of what they had, the fit wasn't there. I just finished a 2-hr. private lesson with Hi-Tech's Kakoa (this isn't the best pic of me, but Kakoa's in the background smiling away - priceless!). I've taken a few lessons from other surf shops, and bobbed around a bit on my own, but never left feeling like I had done much of anything. Today was an absolute blast. This location in Kihei is great, the other one in Kahului not so much. They are dismissive and act like you are inconveniencing them by your presence. Rented a stand up from Kihei a couple weeks ago because I had nothing better to do on my day off. The Central American girl at the desk was cool but the little local punk that helped me grab a board who probably weighed 105 dripping wet with the wiry black hair needs some lessons in Aloha. I bought a top for my girlfriend, realized I bought the wrong size. Went back 2 days later to exchange the size, but I couldn't find my receipt. All the tags were on the top, nothing was removed I just wanted a different size. Explained to Peter, the manager, my situation, was informed, no receipt no exchanges. Store looked cool but DO NOT buy any electronics, electronic accessories, watches or anything that could malfunction. Their customer support will be to direct you to the manufacturer or just say it's "too bad" since they have a STRICT NO RETURN policy. I was able to see this when I first walked in while they were dealing with a customer that had an issue with an item they bought there and then experienced it myself 3 hours later. The manager, Peter sold me on some knock-off GoPro case that came in a box that was sealed with tape and drawn on with a red marker. When I opened it, it already had a scratch on the clip but I was in a pinch and already at the beach so just hoped for the best. The case immediately fogged up and come to find out I didn't even need it unless I was going deeper then 30ft. Peter told me I needed it if I was going deeper then 4 feet of water. Went back to the shop 3 hours later and they would not help. No refund, no exchange, no credit, no customer service. SHOP ELSEWHERE. I could care less about the $35 bucks but it's the point that they have no interest in helping. read more

My wife and I stopped in on our last day in Maui to try to rent a surfboard. I wanted to try surfing before I left, and we'd packed in so many other activities (including our wedding) that we almost didn't have time. The guys at Hi-Tech were super helpful. Even though it was kind of late in the day, they went out of their way to get us set up with surfboards, and even came out with us to show us the basics, and help us catch some waves. We were both able stand up and ride multiple waves, and they stayed past closing to make sure we had enough time. It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip, and now I'm looking to see what surfing spots are within driving distance of me. If we're ever back in Maui we'll definitely be visiting Hi-Tech again. read more

We bought a GoPro accessory here that was faulty (ended up losing our GoPro in the surf because of it). It wasn't a name brand product, I'm guessing they're bringing them in from China. It was pretty upsetting and at the end of it all, they wouldn't even give us a refund on the broken product we'd purchased earlier that day. Super disappointing service, I wouldn't go back. read more
