Stopped in Maui Tropix to replace a $70 pair of sunglasses we bought there just two months ago. The only options were $200+, and when we said we didn't want to spend that much, the salesperson sneered: "If you want cheap sunglasses, you should go to Walmart or Target." When on Maui, you GOTTA get at least one thing from a Maui Tropix store!! Aaaaand it has to be something that says, #MauiBuilt!! This location is in Kahului. We were planning on going to the one in Lahaina but apparently that location is gone. =( No worries brahhhh, Kahului has got your back!! You'll find ample parking right in front of the store. Inside, it's like a rainbow feast of Maui Built items. Think of Maui Built as you do brand names like Roxy and Hurley. Locals and mainlanders alike go nuts for this stuff. You can only get this stuff Maui, so if you have a chance, get 'um!! You'll find everything from clothing (hoodies, shorts, shirts, dresses, swim trunks, etc.) to stickers to hats and other accessories like jewelry and license plate frames. I walked away with some goodies for peeps back home. They have a huge collection of stickers to put on your bumper or wherever. I grabbed a few of those too! My future new ride will sport one or two, haha! ;) Prices are more than I would like to pay, but again, this is Hawaii AND it's exclusive to Maui sooooo....yeahhh!! It's like going to Disneyland for the first time and leaving without any souvenirs. Lol The employees here are all full of aloha and they are patient. I was checking out their sticker and jewelry selection and I didn't feel rushed at all. I got a pair of earrings for myself. =) Make sure to hit up one of these stores if you're visiting Maui! I love Maui Built! But sometimes ( in my opinion) I get the feeling that they don't like doing business with tourists. We go to Maui quite frequently and totally respect the Hawaiian people, their traditions and their homeland. I absolutely love Hawaii and would never do anything to be disrespectful. But there has been a few occasions where I'm in one of the shops purchasing things and I'm almost uncomfortable being there. I'm starting to think that they don't want to have the online store up because they kinda want to be in control of who they sell to. Just my opinion and I HOPE that I am incorrect. What an amazing store. Highly recommend Maui Tropix. From the minute we entered we were warmly greeted. The music was fantastic (Pandora Island Jams). Staff asked if we needed help numerous times. They were willing to call a second location to see if they had the size sandals we wanted. We only went in for a pair of sandals. I always read other people's review before I state mine just to see if I am on point. This time I feel everyone overrates this shop. The only reason I left a 3 is because it is the only shop like it. I have roots in Maui and I believe in the logo but recently not sure if I can believe in their cause. They are becoming like any other surf store in Hawaii, HIC, T& C, Local Motion, what ever happened to taking care of the kama'aina? My cousin and I went in there and upon walking in we were greeted with an Aloha. Fine... great!! But the longer I stayed the Aloha seemed to diminish. It was almost as if I was starting to become more of an annoyance as I kept breaking them up from "talking story" with their peers. Hello! I am the customer.. how about come talk story with me. So I am looking through things and keep having to get someone to assist me. I was expecting to drop a lot of money. My top budget was $500. But it seemed the more questions I asked the more distant the clerks got. I finally settled on a pull over sweater, an aloha shirt for work, and a sun shirt. I wanted a sticker to probably put on one of my paddles and knowing that stickers have a high retail price (stickers probably cost 50 cents to make and they mark them up to $5) I jokingly asked, if I bought over a hundred dollars worth of merch would they give me a sticker. (Back in the day shops would use stickers as an incentive to spend.) when I asked this question the manager gave a grostique face as if I just ate shit. I than upped the ante and said well what about $200. Again with a stern "no" she had the audacity to treat me as if I was being rude. I couldn't do it anymore. Purchased my things and left disappointed, thinking to my self I hope it was that days management and that it's not an everyday occurrence that they treat their customers this shitty. I'm back in Oahu and though I encountered this I will rock my gear to show my support not for the company but for the people of Maui. Stay strong! Aloha. read more

Haven't been back to Tropix since 2017 when we lived her back in 2017. So sad no Tropix store on Front Street anymore. Drove to the main store on Dairy Road and loved the upgraded larger store! It has always been a favorite store until now, they just lost a loyal dedicated customer because of this recent experience. I have to agree with Tina on the previous post....I was very annoyed by the young female who followed me everywhere like I was going to shoplift merchandise! I came so close to just confront her and tell her to get the "F" away from me! As soon as I found a shirt I liked, she took it away from me to hold it at the front counter! WTF?? It finally dawned on me they must have alot of locals and tourists stealing merchandise from this business, but it was enough of an annoyance for me to have someone hovering over me that I will not shop there again! Nobody likes bugs buzzing around them!! Get security cameras and have your employees spy on potential shoplifters from another room that way you got the evidence on camera and NOT ANNOYING REAL HONEST CUSTOMERS!! read more

MAUI BUILT is the only surf wear I sport! Whether its beach wear or causeal attire its da beach wear you need brotha! Made locally in Maui and only sold on Maui so if you want it then you gotta bust a ticket and shop local. No website for hipster dufus wanna be's sporting a need fad. Maui Built shirts & shorts sport some of the best designs and fashion for surf wear. But it's the high quality material they use in there shorts that I'm impressed with. These shorts are indestructible and will last longer then your surf board or boogie board. Always stop by every time I'm in Maui. It's an easy $500 splurge so pack light cause your bag will fill up before you leave. read more

We, our family, went to the Maui Tropics, Kahului on 8/16. All four of the sales associates were rude, inattentive, and not interested in taking care of their customers. None of them acknowledged us coming into the store nor did they thank us for stopping in when we left. Our family is a mix of locally raised Hawaiian's, Filipino, Japanese, and Haole. Personally I felt unwelcomed in this store as did the rest of my family. We'll never go back to this store and we're going to tell as many people as we can to not waste your time going to this store. A friend told me about this place prior to arriving on the Valley Isle... MAUI. This shop is the best. Wall to wall Maui Built clothes & accessories. I walked in and was instantly greeted with smiles & shakas. The sales associate was very helpful in helping me find the sizes i needed for friends back on the mainland. She didnt believe I was from LA and thought I was a local boy... I bought several Maui Built shirts (mens & womens) and some decals for my board. And as I said goodbye to the staff there and thanked them for all their help, I noticed that the total on my receipt was lessened by the Kama'aina (local) discount the manager had given me at the register. I was surprised by that. Totally unexpected but no doubt appreciated by me. I walked back in the store to thank them and to tell them I was super appreciative of the gesture. I would have given 5 stars except the experience was a lil peculiar. My husband and I look like locals but we're not. The employees in the store followed us around and every time we grabbed something and walked around with it they asked if they could take it to the front, which OK, whatever that's fine. My issue is if I don't need your help shopping and I am not asking for it, don't follow me around. It's bothersome. The entire time one of them (store manager maybe) kept trying to hustle my husband into buying more stuff which started to get really annoying because it was ruining our last experience in Maui before we jumped on the plane. Today, which is 4 days later I decide to unpack the Maui Built bag and come to find that the sweater I wanted the lady took out of my hands didn't even put it in the bag. I'm super pissed. If they would have just let us shop like normal tourists I'm sure it would have been a better experience. I mean literally harassing us to buy more stuff, just ring up the stuff we gave you and pay attention!! So annoyed and the same lady told my husband they don't have custom made jerseys for big and tall because no one wants to see them in tank tops! Rude AF. Of course she's a petite white lady pretending to be Hawaiian talking to REAL Polynesians, I couldn't even believe she said that. Body shaming my husband in the same breath trying to ask him to buy more stuff. Besides the service most of the clothing seemed really nice and stylish, price isn't a big deal to us because we know the clothing is exclusive. The only stuff that wasn't good quality were the big and tall t-shirts. Which I hope in the future they start designing clothes for the market you are selling too. It's questionable why the sizes are small when MOST Polynesians are not, MOST of us are bigger than other ethnicities, and it would be nice if they cater to us as so. read more

With that being said, this visit on Saturday, May 17th at around 1:30 pm, was a very pleasant surprise. My wife and I wasn't planning on stopping by here, but there was virtually no traffic on Dairy which enabled me to make a left turn into their parking lot The store was well stocked with their signature "Maui Built" apparel and the staff was very friendly and helpful. When visiting Maui, I usually make a beeline to the Maui Tropix - Kihei store, but if traffic on Dairy Road is not a problem, like this particular Saturday, then this store may be our first stop after picking up our rental car... read more

This place is awesome to find MAUI BUILT stuff. They got some cool shirts, but they are not cheap about the lowest is $20.00. The people are friendly and so helpful. But make sure you bring some cash or credit card cause it's not gonna be to cheap. They even have stuff for kids. read more

Awesome clothing but ridiculous prices! Still i got some board shorts and some shirts.

I've been shopping there for years, but lately the inventory for that particularly style of clothing I wear has been on the decline. In board shorts there's a wide variety in other sizes and white t-shirts with the small logo on the front and big design on back its becoming almost impossible to find in the store. I guest its just being there at the right time. But the Wahines working there are very friendly, helpful and welcoming when walking in the front door. read more

Maui Buit/Tropix is a great place to pick up a souvenir t-shirt of surf attire. My wife and I picked up a Maui Built T-shirt at this store. The staff here was SUPER friendly and spend a good amount of time helping my wife find the perfect t-shirt. She got a pink No Ka Oi shirt which is very fitting because she always says "its the best'.
