Visited for the first time in a few years recently. It's big and they have lots of stuff, but they're WAY behind he curve in the craft beer game. They have what would be a cool selection 5 or 6 years ago. For example, no smoothie or slushy beers, not much even from great local breweries like Alvarado street. They have a ton of whiskey, but it's either stuff you can find at the local Ralphs, or pappy van winkle that is priced WAY higher than the gray market...hence the reason the bottles sit on the shelf. Nothing I could see on semi tough bottles to find like Elijah Craig barrel proof or Larceny barrel proof, bottles I can get down the street fairly regularly. Overall, super "meh". read more

They've basically got every beverage you'd need for a great party. There's some snacks and gifts, too, but their bread and butter is really the alcohol (especially the wine, hence the name). I've been here a few times for hard-to-find things, like a specific Sicilian red wine and a specific sparkling water brand, as well as a specific mixer sold out elsewhere. Good prices for the hard-to-find stuff, as well as day-to-day liquor/beer/wine. Parking isn't too bad, since it's kind of hidden in a neighborhood street. They're more-or-less across the street from Sidecar Donuts and Shirley's Bagels, so a visit to the trifecta of gluttony is basically going to happen when you decide to visit. They're quite far for me, but worth the drive versus going to L.A. or S.D. read more

Holy cow! I came here because I found out this place is the only place in this area that sells my favorite rum. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much of everything they had. I made a last-minute decision, after asking for help to find my rum, to also ask what his favorite wine was since I wanted to surprise my friend with some wine. I told him I budget, and he gave me his three top choices. I brought over her wine, and she absolutely loved it! I tried a sip as well, and it is quite delicious. WARNING: It is next to impossible to leave this place without an armful of yummy wines/beers/spirits/cheeses. The deck is stacked against you because their selection is HUGE and if you're the type of person seeking one of the rare items they don't have in stock -- they will order it just for you. The tasting room is fun & seductive. I've gone in for "just one thing".... and left with six bottles of great wines I didn't know I needed. The staff is great. In addition to being friendly, they REALLY know their stuff. For example, I went in looking for a Spanish wine to thank my boss. The guy who helped me took me beyond superficial questions (red vs. white) and guided me into the different regions & specialties as we found a great wine in my price range. I have been coming here for over a decade, and can't believe I haven't written a review. Big shoutout to Holden P, Zach, Sean (at the smoke shop), Gary F., Dan W., Charlie and koala (Kyle-whenever he's in town). Scotch/whisky/bourbon- Holden is the man. He's very knowledgeable, is a straight shooter, and will always help you find something you'll enjoy. Zach/Gary/Dan: all exceptional guys, and they know their wine. Years ago, I was looking for a bottle of a wine that is quite difficult to acquire... guess who located a case? These guys! Sean is the ONLY reason why I go to Hi-Time when I need cigars. He's a wonderful person and he's knowledgeable. I remember having to deal with some girl who had NO IDEA WHAT THE HECK SHE WAS DOING. I had to describe the damn cigar for her... I believe it was the limited edition davidoff for Chinese New Year. My exact words to her: "do you see davidoff? Do you see a red box with a DOGGY on it????" My stupid meter exploded on that day. Later that week, I got on the phone with Sean, and they had it in stock! I can't stand incompetent people, however Sean rectified the situation and I got all the sticks I needed. I wonder if that girl still works at the shop... if stupidity could produce electricity, I swear... Anyhow- I love this place. Just ask for the people I listed above and you'll be in good hands. Oh, my! What an amazing store! I've been hearing about Hi-Time for years from friends and bartenders in Orange County, but as I live in Long Beach, I never got the chance to check it out. I do go to OC rather frequently (I tend to do my shopping there and have some favorite OC restaurant/bars), but the timing just never worked out to make the detour over to Hi-Time. Fast forward to yesterday. After enjoying classic and modern craft cocktails at bars and restaurants, over the holidays I decided that 2023 would be the year I would learn to make my own cocktails (beyond the basics - Manhattan, martini, old fashioned, and sazarac). So, I bought several interesting cocktail books, went down the YouTube rabbit hole, and invested in some better bar equipment (Boston shaker all the way, no more dreaded cobbler for me). But I ran into trouble finding many of the specialty spirits and liqueurs described in the cocktail recipes in the books and YouTube videos. Total Wine (my primary liquor source) has an ok selection, but they don't stock a number of the items I wanted. Time to finally hit Hi-Time. I was blown away by the selection. They had every single thing I was looking for, and more. And the staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. My husband also enjoyed browsing the cigar and wine selections (I was so enthralled with the spirits /liqueurs section that I didn't make it to the wine section - next time). Hi-Time will be my go-to source from now on. Of course, I'll likely still use Total Wine for my basic liquor needs, simply because it is only a 5 minute drive away, compared to about a 30 minute drive to Hi-Time. But whenever possible, and especially when I need a better selection, I'll head for Hi-Time. read more

Came here last weekend to do some xmas shopping. This is absolutely the BEST place to buy gifts for any occasion! They literally have everything alcohol or drink related you can think of - wines, spirits, mixers, beers, garnishes, drink stirrers, olives, you name it. This place has the largest collection of retail wine that I have ever seen! street level is the spirits -- at least 200 kinds of bourbon, 100+ scotch whiskeys, and a 40 foot row of vodkas. The coup de grace, though, is the basement wine cellar. Thousands of bottles, and most come with a pretty good tasting description. There is a good cigar shop at the front of the store; prices are in line with other shops, and the selection is pretty extensive. read more

Made a reservation this time for an all Napa Cab tasting . Walked in, several options for seating & greeted immediately. The entire vibe of this place is just so chill. Staff are incredibly knowledgeable, drop some interesting knowledge about the wine/maker/winery and overall area of the treats we were tasting as well as other options/price points that are more palate driven and just made it interesting and fun. The crowd is consistently diverse & we always end up chatting with other customers. We've met local/neighborhood, SoCal/NorCal peeps, some folks from Italy, Canada & Argentina and some people not too far from where I grew up in the Midwest. I'm telling you, it's just a whole vibe. Never mind the phenomenal wine cellar and entire liquor store . They gave All the Things. Check it out for sure. read more

Hi-Time is a 20,000 square-foot-plus adult playground of wine, spirits, beers, cigars, gourmet chocolates, foods, cheeses and related accessories.. Our 3,000 square-foot underground, climate-controlled wine cellar houses a great selection of wines (still and sparkling) from all over the world while our aisles and cases hold spirits both rare and familiar. Beer has its own home in a refrigerated "beer cave" where the brews are organized by country; cigars, too, have their own dwelling in our spacious walk-in humidor. We also have a full-sized wine bar with featured tastings on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and a self-serve "honor system" section for sampling some of our newsletter wines and everyday values. Established in 1957.

Hi-Time Wine Cellars is a family-owned retail store located in Costa Mesa, California. Founded by Fritz Hanson and his brother-in-law Jim McVay, Hi-Time opened its cellar doors in 1957 at its original location on 17th and Irvine in Costa Mesa, California. Brothers Chuck and then Harold Hanson soon joined the family business, Chuck as wine buyer and Harold as General Manager, a position he held for over 40 years. In 1984, the Hanson brothers moved to their present location in Costa Mesa where they built one of the largest underground temperature-controlled wine cellars in the U.S. This 3,000 square feet underground temperature-controlled cellar now includes a selection of 10,000+ wines from many different wineries and vintages. This selection represents the world's finest growing regions from such diverse areas as California, Oregon, Washington, France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Germany, Austria, New Zealand, Australia and Portugal.

Now today I got the story straight from the crew at both locations and my guy Johnny at the location here on Newport Blvd North and Wilson in Costa Mesa. First, make sure that you're headed north on Newport Blvd back in the direction of Santa Ana. Then just past 23rd Street you'll see the stop light at Wilson. The center is immediately on the right, be careful as the parking lot is rather tight. Also there's the 7/11 right next door. My guy Johnny was also super nice and accommodating when I asked him if I could take some pictures. One thing I noticed was that this location also has a good selection of Kratom from various brands. Really nice to add to your coffee or in a protein shake. Also this location has a cool Zippo lighter display with a decent selection of cool lighters. A slightly larger selection of Hookahs than the Newport/Balboa store. Everything else is solid and quite comparable to the Balboa store. Fantastic service whichever locations you might find yourself visiting. What I personally like is that these are family owned and operated, veteran owned, and have provided the community around Costa Mesa, Newport, Irvine, area for over a couple of decades now. You can't go wrong with stopping by any of the stores, they have exactly what you need and the best crews in store there to help you get exactly what you want. Easily over $2,500 in clouds of fruity smoke. So imagine my shock when one of the owners comes sprinting after me like I'm shoplifting diamonds... over a ONE DOLLAR WATER BOTTLE. Mind you, they've given me water for free before. But suddenly, this $1 bottle must've been liquid gold. The look of pure existential frustration in the owner's eyes was like I'd just asked him for his firstborn child instead of a sip of Dasani. I guess loyalty means nothing when they're counting pennies. So here's the deal: Thousands spent on vapes? Check. Loyal customer for 2 years? Check. Free water bottle? DENIED. I hope that $1 was worth it, because you officially lost a customer who practically pays your electric bill. I'll be taking my vape habit (and my thirst) elsewhere. P.S. Next time, maybe save the Olympic-level sprinting for actual shoplifters... not your regulars who keep you in business.

I work at Hi-Time so you might consider me a bit biased (though I will strive for objectivity... after all, I'm a customer here too). I think what I like most about Hi-Time is the depth and breadth of products carried at a variety of price ranges. I love that I can get Grand Cru wines from Alsace in one section, beers from a German brewery that was founded in about 1040 AD upstairs, hard-to-find gourmet sodas in the back and great cigars from the Dominican Republic in the front. And I'm not a wealthy man as far as material concerns go, so like to find something I can afford (I usually shop in the $10 to $20-per-bottle range with wine). Lately I've been in love with wines from Australia and New Zealand. You can get great Sauvignon Blancs at very good prices ($10 to $15) that will blow you away with their crisp acidity, flavors ranging from sour grapefruit to Asian Starfruit, "Cat Pee" to asparagus (these wines can be tart! But they rule with fatty sea food like lobster or scallops). My family hasn't minded, though, as I provide the wines for all holiday functions and birthday gatherings. I don't buy spirits all that often but when I do, there's usually something interesting and new to try, whether it's the latest flavored vodka, rye whiskeys coming back in style or the latest Rock Star Tequila (we just had Vince Neil of Motley Crue in-store to sign bottles of his Tres Rios Tequila... he was way cool!). We have a full wine bar with featured wine tastings on the weekends (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) and various classes and tastings throughout the year. We have everything from 'New World' new releases to old First Growth Bordeaux and all that falls in between. We generally have a beer tasting on the 3rd Wednesday and have a Sake event coming up in early June. So, plenty of chances to taste great stuff at reasonable prices (most tastings start at $30 for 12 or more tastes). I'll stop sounding like a commercial. If you like wine, spirits and such, this store will probably make you happy. I was a customer first and started working here about a dozen years ago. And this is our 50th anniversary so we have all kinds of fun stuff planned (including a charity chili cook-off coming up in late August). Thanks for all your kind words, we do appreciate it. I've been a customer of Hi-Time Wine Cellars for about 30 years. During that period of time, I've purchased a ton of wine, food items, wine accessories and cigars from them; stored my collection of wine with them; and attended hundreds of wine tastings at their wonderful wine bar. I've gotten to know through the years a number of members of the Hanson family who own and operate the store. They are fantastic people as are the members of their incredible staff. This is the best wine store in SoCal and maybe the country. With all their many departments to serve the needs of anyone who wants to buy the best offerings at reasonable prices of wine, beer, spirits, deli and other food items, wine accessories and gifts, this is the place to shop. I call it the "Disneyland of Wine Stores!" Finally, an extra word about their Wine Bar. Their wine tastings and staff have been excellent through the years. They feature outstanding wines from around the world and host some of the top wine producers in the U.S. who attend and present their wines in person. If I could give this place 0 stars that would be what I would do . I came in with my prescription bottle in hand and let them know I could not wear a mask and why one employee (female)was ok with it .. some fat Hispanic 4 foot 11 buy came up to me claiming he was the manager and i needed go get out .. They stated since they were privately owned they could refuse service to me .. Federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination by privately owned places of public accommodation on the basis of race, color, religion or national origin. Places of "public accommodation" include hotels, restaurants, theaters, banks, health clubs and stores. The right of public accommodation is also guaranteed to disabled citizens under the Americans with Disabilities Act, which prohibits discrimination by private businesses based on disability and yes I have a health condition and disability .. So, no matter where you live, you cannot deny service to someone because of his or her race, color, religion, national origin or disability.. Got the whole thing on video ! Joining the festivities. Bev mo = no mo I have found the light and in a "wine cellar" of all places...odd. They have everything you could possibly imagine related to alcohol here. You cant find a knowledgable staff like this at any other liquor store. It is like they all have masters degrees studying beer, wine, kegs, and cigars. Values are pretty good compared to any large selection shop and better than the local liquor store. So these are the reasons i keep coming back, but I found my way here because of their incomparable selection of quarter and half kegs. It's like the mecca of all things liquor and I am but a humble servant. I get why the great reviews and I haven't been to their shop in person yet! I purchased something online and the delivery was completely botched by their delivery company. When I contacted Hi-Time about the issues they understood and fixed the problem immediately. I experienced great and effective customer service. The reason I ordered online from them in the first place is that they did have in stock a product which is hard for me to find. I'm going to have to wait until they figure out this shipping/delivery problem, but I will be back and if you are shopping in the store itself you shouldn't have any problems. Hi-Time Wine Cellars is one of my favorite pass times! You could spend hours there. It's like Disneyland for wine & beer lovers - the happiest place on earth!!! The family owned and operated business (50 year anniversary this year ('07) - yeah!) is so welcoming. All of the staff are amazingly knowledgable and passionate about what they do! Get there early (like 5pm) on Thursday's, Friday's and Saturday's for the wine tastings - always a good time. I live in Phoenix and often have a case of red shipped - since they've got a superb selection and the cost of shipping is well worth my time, not to mention the cost of driving around town. In addition, all the staff at the nail salon goes to the liquor store for drinks, snacks, etc. Today an employee that I have not met before was standing out front and told me I could not park there despite there being no signs saying the parking spot was reserved for liquor store customers only. I told the employee that I would buy something after I got my nails done. In general, he was extremely rude and I would not recommend anyone coming here. They definitely lost a consistent customer that comes twice a month.

We visited Windsor for the first time to try their tap room. This place is a hidden gem! Wow! From…read morethe outside you can't tell that there is an awesome tap room with an amazing tap list. There is a nice long bar and plenty of tables and seating inside. One of my very favorite breweries is Monkish and they have their Hazy IPA on tap. It was so great to have Monkish beer without having to drive to Anaheim or Torrance. The tap room is super clean and neat. There is a great selection of beers to take home. I know there are a few breweries close by to Windsor but they can get super crowded. Windsor is a great place to grab some beer and relax! It's even better that they have their own parking lot! I would highly recommend Windsors and will definitely be back again!

I recently came in during their 10th anniversary celebration. Because the folks here are knowledgeable and have lots of friends in the craft beer community, there were some gems available on tap. I used to live so close to here and based on the timing of their 10th anniversary, I was right down the street around the time they just opened. Sad I didn't know about it back then, but glad I got to/ get to visit now. It's a store/ small taproom located in the Costa Mesa area a bit south of the South Coast Plaza shopping area. I'm continually pretty blown away with what they had available. The pour prices and the bottles seem to be really reasonably priced. A gem for the craft beer community and just a great place to hang out.
