Walking in, friendly service. They greet you, the menu options aren't bad. Foods delicious and it's very cute and peaceful, as I went in the afternoon on a weekday. They have a dog friendly patio and tons of drinks. There's also a back dining area. I believe I met a bartender, her name was Zoey. She was very kind. I feel like giving a place to eat 1 star for giving you food poisoning is similar to giving a park one star because you got shat on by a bird: odds are, it's going to happen from time to time even in the best establishments--hand washing and lettuce washing notwithstanding. So I'll give one star to my food experience which will bring down the otherwise 4 stars I'd give the whole place. For the record, the BLT I ordered was delicious. But then I spent the entire night vomiting every bite of it up. I don't want a BLT for a very long time. I ordered a yummy mocktail also, and my friends' reported their drinks were good. I liked the large size of the patio (wish they had heat lamps though) and the variety of rooms inside the bar. I'd go back. Especially in summer. I just won't order anything to eat. Exactly the thing I wanted when I was in Portland a little while back--a neighborhood restaurant/bar with chill vibes and great food. It's not the kind of place you would really know about, but I fired up the app here and it did not disappoint. Parking was a little rough (this is deep neighborhood, but on the main drag) so I ended up a few blocks away. I ordered inside with the bartender, then snagged a spot on the patio. I'm a sucker for both a patio and a Cubano and both of them were delightful, if not unexpected. The week's work had me worn out so I retired early. Hi-Top Tavern is the place to be as a Beaumont-Wilshire Millennial on a Friday night. I'm a Gen-X'er myself, so I don't have the finances to make a night out at a cocktail bar a carefree experience, but that's not a fair metric to grade an establishment on so a 5-star it is! The drinks were PERFECT, the patio had an amazing vibe to it, and the Bartender was surprisingly speedy given he had a full bar and was virtually alone. Portland is famous for its small watering holes that cater to a local clientele, and Hi-Top Tavern may be the best example of that "Downtown-taste-but-small-neighborhood" feel. Will definitely return on my next trip to Portland. read more

Wow, driving by, you might never notice the awesome bar that is Hi-Top Tavern. Toward the upper end of NE Fremont, its storefront is unassuming but through that front door is a colorful, stocked, friendly, neighborhood spot. Full bar with signature cocktails, classier bar food with vegetarian options, and tons of outdoor seating both out front and an an L-shaped back yard. (They're welcoming vaccinated people to sit inside, and asking anyone in-vaccinated to use their outdoor seating.) I personally loved the colorful murals adorning both interior and exterior walls! Came in to escape the rain and learned this is one of the few bars open past midnight. We were able to get drinks quite fast. Since it was Cinco de Mayo, Margaritas were a must. The servers were very friendly and the prices were fair. Very surprised by how big the place was compared to what you see from the outside. We settled in to on the back heated patio and watched the last quarter of the basketball game. Generally love Hi-Top, but has a bit of a rough time this last visit. Friend and husband both ordered meals that included a salad, their food still hadn't come out 30 minutes after the rest of ours. Found out that they were out of lettuce and going to get some? It was a weird experience. That being said, I've been here maybe 5 other times and have had no issues before so I do plan to return- just might ask some more follow up questions next time if food is running late! Just moved to the neighborhood and this is already our favorite bar on Fremont. Drinks and drink pairings are great, and the food is very good and not too expensive at all. I particularly really like the all online system the business switched to for ordering drinks. It's super easy to use, and the drinks come out quickly to the table. We stood in line and sat on the back patio in the shade. The cubano was excellent, service was quick and the ambience was just what we needed. I came here excited for a new patio and food after some recommendations from a friend. What we experienced was definitely a new patio and new food - it's just that none of it was very good. Let's start with the patio: In terms of Portland patios, I didn't think this one was anything special. Really close to a main road made for a lot of noise, and not a lot of greenery. So nothing impressive on the patio front. The food was fine, but I wouldn't go back. We had a chopped salad which was the best thing we had, but overdressed. We also had a grilled cheese that was reaaaaaaaaally greasy and a steak sandwich (the steak was overcooked and the rest of the flavors in there just really didn't mesh). They do have good prices on wine and a solid list of drinks so that was cool. But overall I didn't think this was anything too special. read more

Same great cocktails as their other locations. Quality beer selection. The patio has an open area with cafe lights and a large undercover area with a hidden bar that will be great to hang out at during the fall and winter months. This is my new favorite neighborhood bar! I've always loved Pay Dirt and Tough Luck, so when I saw that this was a sister bar, I was pretty excited to check it out. It used to be a sad looking bottle shop called Bottles that progressively had less and less inventory every time I showed up. They've since revamped it and now there's plenty of indoor seating, a few TVs for blazer game viewing, a back bar on the patio, and a large dog friendly patio area. All of the workers are super nice and sometimes it gets a little crowded but nothing out of the ordinary. Their happy hour is one of the main reasons I come here so often: Monday-Friday 3-7pm, $5 margarita, Negronis, old fashioned, and Moscow mules. They also have $1 off sandwiches. The food is really good, although I could do without the side of Juanitas chips that comes with the sandwiches. If you're in the area, check this place out because it's a wonderful spot to hang at! read more

Hi-Top has great service-- an attentive staff with smiles and great energy. Decor is fun, and the space is inviting. Beers were delish, didn't have a cocktail myself but they looked good. Food, however, was less than subpar. 14$ for a dry cubano on mediocre bread just won't cut it. The cauliflower app was OK... served warm-ish atop of old greens. With a spot like Hi-Top Tavern there is no need to venture to the "known" neighborhoods with no parking and played out scenes to get a lively urban atmosphere. one of the best patios in Portland. About 2/3 of the patio is covered so you can sit outside on a rainy day. Yay for a new Paydirt sister bar in our neighborhood(ish)!! Great patio courtesy of its predecessor, Bottles. Great neighborhood. Given the team behind it, definitely great bartenders and tasty cocktails! We had a Smoke Everyday (too smokey for me, perfect for my partner) & the Dry Hits (perfect for me, "too Campari" for my partner ‍). We also had an asparagus sandwich with Swiss and the Chacarero(I think?) sandwich. Both delicious; I felt the bread on the asparagus could have been slightly less toasty, but we enjoyed both. Finished the evening with a shot of rye and two "Friends" -- the Moonbrine pickleback and the Verdita spicy pineapple. Both highly recommended. Check this place out! This place turns out great drinks and great food. It's one of my favorite places to go in the neighborhood. Whenever anyone asks me where should meet for cocktails or drinks, I always say Hi-Top Tavern. I've been going to Paydirt before and this is owned by the same people. They put in the same amount of care and maybe a little more pared down in terms of inventive cocktails but definitely they have their standard cocktails down. You can get an upgrade with various types of whisky which is what this place is really known for. I mean, it has cocktails, wine, whisky, beer and great food, what more can you ask for? I always get an old fashioned to start and have never been disappointed. You can get it up, on the rocks or big ice cube. They're really safety conscious and you order by phone. Last time, I tried their BLT with cheese (extra). The BLT was so big and delicious, I shared with a friend. Their outside patio is large and in charge.
