This place was a go to when I lived in Greenville 10 years ago and was on lunch break. Glad to see they're still going strong. Fast service considering they are cooking everything to order except the rice. My go to is the teriyaki chicken bowl with two scoops of wasabi (you need to ask for wasabi, it doesn't come standard with this dish). Mmmm. The sauce keeps the chicken moist along with flavoring the rice. I love the wasabi kick. I've gotten the Hibachi chicken bowl also but found that its a bit drier than the teriyaki bowl. The decor is plain, booth seating and the restaurant itself is small. It can get packed around lunch and dinnertime due to the proximity of the hospital. Many people will get their food to go since they take phone in orders. Finally, they're still observing Covid precautions for the employees in December 2022. You don't need to mask up or anything but they still have the plastic sheeting hanging down separating you from the cashier and cooks. The restaurant is colocated in a shopping center just a few doors from a Speedy Wok, and the signage for Hibachi Express is easy to miss. Ordered to-go food from here after a long and busy day. I had difficulty finding hibachi places that were open on a Monday evening in Greenville (no idea what that's about?), as well as hibachi places that actually had menus available online for me to peruse before deciding on a meal. Thank goodness Hibachi Xpress was open and had menus available to look at online. I ordered a traditional hibachi dinner with steak, shrimp, and chicken in teriyaki sauce served with fried rice and onion soup. I ordered one side of a spring roll and one California sushi roll. The hibachi dinner, including spring roll and soup, was delicious; I shared it with another person and we ate all of it in one sitting. I was pleased that the chicken was white-meat only and the shrimp did not have tails, etc. on. The sushi roll was not my favorite, so I ended up throwing it out (but to be fair, sushi is almost never good to me when I order it to go and take it home). They have lots of sauces (read: white sauce/yum yum sauce, duck, soy, teriyaki) that you can pour yourself and put in to-go cups. Great idea considering you can get as much or as little as you want without bothering the employees who are working hard taking orders and preparing meals. The only thing to note about this place is it is right next to another hibachi restaurant. My GPS took me to the general area in the shopping center where this restaurant was, and I actually walked into the other place 3 doors down first. That is a little odd to me that they are so close, so just be aware of that - ha! read more

I've come here a few times for lunch and dinner (eat in and carry out) and I can honestly say it's just okay. I normally order the hibachi vegetables with either soba noodles or fried rice. I started coming here per the suggestion of some friends and was underwhelmed from the first bite. I do like their spring rolls but everything else seems to have a generic flavor profile. The service is always good and speedy and I've never had to wait for a long time to receive the meal. It's a good option due to its proximity and quick service but I do think there's better hibachi in Greenville. read more

I drove up to pick up my ECU student for fall break, we stopped here on our way home. We had the Hibachi Steak Bowl and potstickers. The steak was perfect, tender, juicy and not over cooked. I was very impressed. I'd love it if my local Hibachi/Sushi to-go places could get some pointers from these folks. read more

Yelp, it is me again. So I went to Hibachi Xpress 2414 Stantonburg Rd Greenville, and I ordered the Hibachi shrimp fried rice with onion zucchini mushrooms. I gave this woman a crisp twenty-dollar dollar bill and asked her if I could check if to make sure if they were not two bills stuck together. First time at Hibachi Express. The gentleman who took my order was personable and thorough. There was a little bit of a wait on the food, but it was expected as they make it as you order. A nice bonus is you can see the chef doing the hibachi meats and veggies so you know your food is fresh. I also ordered sushi and was very pleased. I don't like when sushi has tons of rice and makes you feel like a chipmunk. This sushi was perfectly proportioned and delicious. None of the food tasted good. The hibachi chicken and teriyaki chicken were both dry and pretty flavorless. Normally, hibachi restaurants give you a lot of food for your money, but the portion at this place was measly. Definitely not worth my money. Even the sauces were subpar. She does not have good customer service skills or understand how to properly present herself to the public. On occasion, I have overheard and witnessed her muttering inappropriate, insulting comments about customers on more than one occasion, saying she didn't like certain ones for petty reasons which is unprofessional. She once even snatched money from my outstretched hand when I was paying for a meal! Furthermore, she loudly and harshly disciplines her children who are often present in the restaurant; I feel sympathetic toward them as they are very young and impressionable. In addition, this manager has poor English skills which limit her communicative ability--a necessary job skill in public relations or customer service. read more

I've been to this place about 3 times. I always get the same thing - teriyaki chicken and rice entree. One time some of the chicken was a little dry and hard but overall had a good taste/flavor. My main complaint is that the woman who takes the order and takes the money then goes immediately to the food and starts putting rice in the bowl or adding chicken or this and that WITHOUT washing hands. If you are going to handle money, then do that ONLY. Don't go back and forth. That's disgusting and spreads germs especially during cold and flu season. read more
