They charged me $10 for condiments the only condiment I got was hot sauce and I didn't realize they would charge for that but whatever. Great food, great staff, and fast service. Had about an hour to kill before next flight, so needed a fast meal. Most fast food establishments had long lines. Stopped in here on a chance, and ended with great service and very tasty food. They have plenty of seating and great adult beverages, large menu with great options. Hickory BBQ in DFW airport, D-gates. Summary: minimalist plate of BBQ for a high price, of mediocre quality. Service was good -- reasonably friendly and (more importantly) quick (esp given that only one waitress was managing a half dozen full tables including two families). I looked over the menu judiciously, having enjoyed all sorts of barbecue in my life, from the Carolinas to the West Coast. I ordered the beef brisket plate with a side of broccoli, looking forward to some authentic Texas-style barbecue. The beef brisket arrived on a cheap tray-plate, composed of about a cup of 1" chunks of fatty beef of mediocre flavor, accompanied by a small serving (in a little plastic bowl for dipping) of mediocre bbq sauce. It did not resemble the dual slabs of beef o saw in the online photos. And unlike nearly all other bbq restaurants I had eaten at, no other bbq sauces were offered - and looking around, there didn't appear to be any bottles of bbq sauce, anywhere. The small portion of boiled broccoli was fresh and cooked correctly, so at least that was okay. But for $22, I was pretty disappointed, even at airport prices. Food was cold, service slow, and staff rude. We ordered a single brisket entre that took nearly 25 minutes to receive. There were 3 other tables in the restaurant during this time. The server brought our meal and apologized for the wait. When we took the first bite, it was cold, when we let our server know. She offered another plate, but we needed to head to our gate soon. We had a long layover in DFW, and this place had a decent and clean seating area, as well as an all-day breakfast, so we decided to dine in even though I don't eat meat. Typical of airport restaurants: you price gouged for mediocre, mostly pre-made food. In our case, the brisket was bland and while tender, dry rather than juicy. They were strangely miserly with the sauce, which was similarly a bit bland, but the server left a bottle of Choluca hot sauce so it was survivable. Portion size was also surprisingly small for Texas. Waitress was ok but a little annoying with a very loud high pitched voice, a bit aggressively friendly while trying to get us to order additional items...probably not her fault, as so many restaurants these days coerce their servers into high pressure upselling. At least she didn't have to wear some humiliating "I love my job" T shirts that the servers at Texas Roadhouse have to wear, poor thing. Anyways, this is a textbook case of why I usually just bring protein bars to eat during layovers at airports. Was really craving BBQ and the one I visited (at this terminal) before Covid seems to have closed (sadly). It was awesome to have found this restaurant that seem to have recently opened. The hosts and servers were friendly and efficient. And I got my food fairly quickly. I ordered the "chopped brisket" with fries...and is what you'd expect a brisket sandwich from Texas to taste like; juicy, tender and full of flavor. Something about frying made me super hunger, and I practically inhaled this sandwich only pausing to savor the flavor after every delicious bite! I also ordered dessert (bread pudding) also delicious! The restaurant has seating at the bar as well as tables for groups or small tables for single travelers like me. One comment about the menu, it's fairly limited...it doesn't offer slabs of brisket..but it's at the airport and was thankful for the opportunity to have a delicious dinner! It's all about expectations here. I expected really good BBQ and got great toast. $20 gets you two slices of brisket, an order of fries and a slice of Texas Toast. The brisket portion was small and each piece had a deep brown color as if it had been reheated. The meat was smoky and tender, but not hot and juicy. The fries were hot standard frozen product. The Texas Toast...doesn't look like much but had a wonderful warm, crunchy texture with a great buttery flavor. Service was fast and friendly.
