Food - what made this meal weird was the black beans on the BOTTOM of the salad bowl. And warm black beans at that. It didn't taste bad...but not great either. Mostly just weird. I felt like the salad on the bottom had a wilted sort of consistency, but I think it was largely from sitting on the warm black beans. I would certainly ask for the black beans to be separate or left out all together next time. The chips and salsa appetizer was tasty. I love to try housemate salsas and these weren't disappointing. I had never been to this restaurant before and had not heard of it before either. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and drinks. Although pricey, like most airport food, it was worth it. The airport location has a sports bar type feel, with several tvs all on various sports channels. I ordered the street tacos-shrimp and my friend ordered a vegetarian bowl. We both ordered margaritas. The food was fresh and tasty. The area was a bit tight, but there are tables so that you can get a restaurant feel while in the airport. Our server was excellent and gave food suggestions based on what we told him we liked. Wow pretty good especially for airport food! Got the veggie burrito in a bowl thinking I'd just have a few bites and save it for later on the plane. Got the quick serve meal. It was very quick and basically a thrown together meal you could get very cheaply at a grocery story. During a layover, hubby and I needed something quick and convenient for lunch. Blue Mesa was nearby and figured you can't really go wrong with Mexican food - my all time fave. I had the spinach and mushroom enchiladas topped with green chile sauce. These were alright, but there was a severe lack of mushroom - maybe two in each enchilada? Kind of a disappointment there, but they weren't bad as far as flavor goes. Hubby got the Steak Street Tacos and he said they were fine. Corn tortillas were a little dried out, but the black beans and rice sides were good. There is nothing spectacular about this place but the meal was decent enough to go back to whenever I have another DFW layover. Decent enough airport restaurant. Top shelf margarita was da bomb! As was the Cucumber jalapeno margarita. For sure you want to come here for the margaritas. The two, in particular, are made with fresh lime juice instead of the crappy mixes you might get elsewhere. If I was rating on the margaritas I'd rate this higher. The food, however, was good, just not great. Fresh guac was good, street tacos was good (beef better than the chicken), and chicken enchilada was good. Just good. And the atmosphere isn't too hot. No great views, no window seating, just hanging out in a terminal. My recommendation is to order the margaritas then when you are in a happy place, order whatever interests you. I loved their corn chowder, however, it was thick and I'm used to a more broth-based version, but by no means was it bad. It was quite filling and I enjoyed about half my cup. My veggie quesadilla with avocado, basil and onions was outstanding as well. Sounds random but dipping the quesadilla in the remaining corn chowder put this meal over the top. Try it, it's delicious despite sounding a bit odd. For an airport restaurant, prices were quite reasonable and I found the food quality to be good. Arrived super early for my flight at DFW Terminal E (US Airways). Blue Mesa seems like a nice choice. There is booth seating, TVs over the bar, nice atmosphere. There was no wait for table seating. The server was very nice and friendly. I wanted a classic margarita. I was told it came 'blue'. So I opted for the raspberry Paloma. It sounded refreshing, I gave it a try. It was very sour and seedy. The server asked how it was. I told her I didn't care for it and asked if I'd like to try something different. Wow! So I said I'd try the blue margarita. It was ok. Much better than the Raspberry Paloma Margarita. I also had chips and salsa. Assortment of different types if chips with medium and spicy salsa. The Mesa Sampler was plenty for me. Can't believe I've never reviewed this place! I've been to this airport location probably 20 times: food is probably 2-3 stars but the service is amazing!!!! They have very long term bartenders who have been there for years. You can get in and out very quickly and they are very personal. Prices are to be expected for the airport, but the drinks are good, and food is decent. I'd recommend just snacking on chips and dips, as the other entrees might not be as flavorful as you'd like. Typically airport food is expensive, so when I saw the prices to this place, I thought they were comparable to the outside world. With that in mind, I decided to eat here as I try to eat local as much as possible when Traveling. The service was extremely fast and friendly. I had a two hour lay over at DFW, so I thought a sit down restaurant would fit into my layover. I didn't need the full two hours. In fact, I think I spent 30 minutes here. When I said the service was fast, it was abnormally fast for a sit down restaurant. I placed my order and within 5 Minutes, I was being served my meal. I ordered the 3 Tacos (Beef, Chicken and Steak) and it came with black beans and ginger rice. The tacos were really small. They were the size of a toddler's hand. The meat in all three were dry and was heavily smothered in chopped onions. The beans was good, but the ginger rice was odd. I am a huge fan of ginger, but for Mexican food, this didn't sit well, even when mixed together. The ginger is very potent. If you have a short time to get to your gate for your flight and do not want the typical hamburger chains at the airport, this is good based on service, but for the quality of food, I wish I would of went further down and ate at the Love Shack since it's in the same Terminal but on the opposite side. read more

Now, chips and salsa have to be ordered separately, as they are not complementary. But, the food service is so fast, you probably won't miss it. The only critique was that the food arrived so fast, that the cheese didn't have time to melt. But ultimately, it was still really delicious! My waitress was also very attentive and quick. I was so pleased with everything about my experience at Blue Mesa, that I would definitely be back- and to be honest, I'll probably go out of my way to visit a Blue Mesa restaurant outside the airport, because the food was that good and I don't know if I will be flying out of that terminal anytime soon. I highly recommend sticking to beer or mixed cocktails since the wine options here are limited and not great. We wanted an appetizer of Guacamole and Chips, but we had no idea their Guac appetizer was enough to feed 4 people. The guacamole was pretty darn good, but what we really enjoyed the most were the sweet potato chips. The chips were soft, yet crunchy and delicious. The salsa our waiter brought out was also something not to miss. For my entrée, I decided to go with the Shrimp Fajitas, which was a large portion of goodness. The shrimp were a tad bit overcooked, but they were good enough to be consumed. The flour tortillas were wonderful, and with everything combined, I was happy I chose that as my meal. Our waiter forgot to bring us water and silverware and it took a while to get it from him, but he was so nice to us that it didn't bother us. Sometimes, a nice small from a waiter is all someone needs when tired, hungry, and ready to get to their planned destination. Our bill came to $70, which I thought was steep for such a meal. Not too bad of a place. I dined in around 630pm on a Monday. The place looked trendy with most sitting at the bar. Which was strange too many tables were swamped with previous patrons plates and glasses still on the table. They didn't get cleaned up for atleast 15 minutes from the time I got there. I'm only giving them a low review for the food quality. The service is great the times I've been here but after a couple of visits I have to say I do not like their food at all. Blue Mesa tries to branch off with a wide array of flavors but they fail in execution. Prime example is their fish tacos. They come overloaded with a pineapple and cabbage slaw that is way too sweet which overpowers the fish, it was also too wet and made my tortillas soggy. The fish itself was not seasoned, no salt or spice just mediocre. The ginger rice is also a fail, it's rather hard and doesn't have a nice blend of flavors just pungent ginger and it seems to be over cooked and dry. The black beans are passable, they are cooked down and kinda smashed but still chunky kinda like Gloria's. The queso was watered down and flavorless. Though I did enjoy the table side guacamole which is of course freshly made and customizable. Then there's the chips and salsa. The salsa was watery no texture to it and I don't like the unnecessary sweet potato kettle chips they give you. The regular and blue corn tortillas are freshly made as well but not as good as a lot of Cantina chips at other places like Uncle Julio's or even El Fenix.
