Tried lunch just recently and had some problems. Not that busy for a Wed, but it was sure slow for food coming out of the kitchen, really slow. Waitstaff wasn't the best either. Slow and inattentive. My patty melt was good, but I don't care for the batter dipped fries. My wife said the tomatoes on the BLT, what ever taste they had she didn't like that part of it at all. Like maybe they used Roma tomatoes or something. Those don't really go on a regular BLT. We both had 3 choices for another side. The soup neither of us wanted, Cole Slaw, no thanks and the potato salad they were out of. How do you run out of potato salad as a diner?‍They were substituting pasta. I asked if I could get just a very small salad instead. She said it would be $4 more, no thanks. I don't want any added side then. My wife spoke up and said she would also take my pasta. She tried it, took a bite and said it was horrible. Left hers sitting on the table as well as all of my pasta. Not so good this time around. read more

Checked Yelp for a breakfast spot in western Davenport- found this gem. Mid 80s style family restaurant. I was greeted and seated quickly, got coffee almost instantly that was hot and good. Looked over a robust menu but in the end ordered one of the specials- eggs, sausage, potatoes, & toast. Inexpensive and filling. Great experience to start the day. read more

Stopped by tonight as I haven't been in years. Let me start by saying the staff was superb. They were friendly, welcoming, and very attentive. The menu takes awhile to get through and perhaps is the reason dishes are not completely executed and lacked finish. I ordered the chicken parmigiana with spaghetti. Which included their own house made sauce( the sauce fell flat, and it seemed to have spices carelessly thrown in that didn't belong). Sadly I think it will be another couple years before I attempt to try this venue again. read more

This restaurant is great. Great food, great selection, great waitstaff. I recommend it, especially for families. I went with family here on a Saturday morning. We received two free plates of kiwi wedges with cream as an appetizer while we waited for our food. My two nieces ordered the pancakes and the Minnie Mouse waffle. Both dishes were decorated nicely for the girls and tasted good. My family ordered biscuits and gravy. They were not disappointed with the flavor or the size of their portions. I ordered the king bacon burger with a side salad. The burger was well seasoned and tasty, and the fries were crispy and delicious. The waitstaff were wonderfully attentive to us and kind to my nieces. I would highly recommend this family restaurant. read more

My family and I had dinner tonight at Hickory Garden because we love the soup. My husband ordered the liver and onions, a dish he has had numerous times. When he tasted it he said it tasted sour. I told him not to eat it. We called the waitress over. She apologized, took it away and returned with the manager/owner. Like a scene straight out of Kitchen Nightmares, she proceeded to yell at my husband and tell him it wasnt the food, they had good food. It was my husbands fault. And if he didnt like it he should have just said so because it was defintely not their food. The waitress was great, unlike the manager. She apologized over and over again. We told her it wasnt het fault. The manager had no business yelling at my husband and then going behind the counter to make fun of us. Needless to say we wont go back, soup or no soup. Manager was horrible and shouldnt be allowed near customers. read more

Went there for lunch today, first time. Excellent service, our waitress was wonderful, wish I would have remembered her name. Recently I was heading out towards walmart and stopped here along the way. The burger I ordered was pretty mediocre though massive with tons of fries for under 10 dollars with the drink and tip. The service was efficiant with refills though not friendly, it seemed my experience represented the experience of others. We were in there for dinner and my dad had the liver and onions and said it tasted sour. Told him to try his potato to see how it tasted. He said the potato and bread tasted good. Told our waitress and she was very nice about it. Took the meal away and brought the owner out. The owner proceeds to tell my dad that they do not have anything sour at their restaurant. Said if he didn't like what he had he could tell the waitress and she would get a menu and he could pick something else. He said it was his fault. She thenwalked away and we did not see her the rest of the time. Used to love this place but it has gone down hill. While we were there there were only four other occupied tables. Came in to a menu that was enormous. If you go by the menu count, 114 choices. I should have known then that with a menu that big, they would do nothing great. I chose the Athenian chicken since the owners were Greek. They told me twenty minutes. Forty minutes later I got my food that was overwhelming mediocre. If you just want a lot of food come here. Normally no problem here, until tonight. We showed up at 8:45 (a full hour and fifteen minutes before their posted close time) and their sign says open. Walk to the door where we are greeted by the waitress telling us they are closed. No explanation just that they forgot to flip the sign. This boggled my mind completely. I stopped by today, as a college from work recommended Hickory Gardens! They told me to order the Greek Chicken, in the menu Athenian Chicken! Literally the chicken was so tender and soo flavorful, with oregano and lemon spices! The service was fast and super friendly. The restaurant looked remodeled it was all around nice! Will be back. Just was taken to eat dinner tonight at Hickory Garden at 5:30 Have been there many times and almost always good food. To get out of my rut of ordering butterfly shrimp or Athena chicken, I decided to try the All You Can Eat Fish Fry special on Fridays. My friend ordered his usual liver and onions with chicken veggie soup and mashed potatoes with gravy. The fish fry came with my choice of soup, Boston Clam Chowder, and my choice of potato. I took the American Fries (ole fashioned skillet fried potatoes like dad used to make), and Alaskan Pollock fish, beer battered, and deep fried. They always bring out a bread basket with fresh bread slices, buttery crackers, two spiced muffins, and butters. Our soups were super hot as usual. Also very fast service bringing out pops and bread basket at first. The restaurant was pouring people in the door. I had not seen it this busy for a while. It was 5:45, so I guess it was time. The food came quickly and I had 5 big strips of deep fried fish on a platter and a saucer plate heaped with fried potatoes. And they also gave 3 cups of tatar sauce to start out with. The fish was incredibly hot so I broke some open to air out. Realized there wasn't a huge amount of Pollock in there, more batter than anything. I ate one piece and then just dug the fish out with a fork for 3 more strips of fish and dipped it in tartar sauce. The batter was like pancake batter and wasn't totally done in the middle and gummy. I won't order the fish fry again, but the fried potatoes were wonderful and reminded me of growing up at home as a kid. My friend's liver and onions were excellent as usual, and the mashed potatoes were actually hot this time. By the time we got our check to leave the place was packed and I am sure they needed our table. The food here is usually always good, it's just the fish fry was not my thing. I will go back to gyros, Athena chicken, shrimp, or Greek specialty items they offer. read more

I decided to go here with my father since he convinced me how good the place was. First thoughts when walking in: reminded me of my grandmother's house with the flora seat designs and the wall paint. Cozy? Yes, but ugly in my opinion. There were 3 other couples there when we had arrived and they had already had their food. After spending about 15 minutes trying to figure out their menu and decide on something I finally did. I ordered their Philly Cheesesteak and fries, while my father ordered their spaghetti and fried chicken. Oh, we also had an appetizer of the chicken noodle soup. The soup was delicious, could of had probably 10 more bowls it was that good. After maybe 20-25 minutes (we're the only people who ordered within the last 10 minutes) our food finally arrived. My dads fried chicken looked good, but the meat sauce on the spaghetti looked like store bought Prego or something. He liked it though. My cheesesteak was covered in onions and peppers which I liked. However, the meat itself looked like deli bought roast beef. It was dry, unseasoned and had no taste. I only tasted peppers, onions and the cheese. I didn't finish it due to the lack of taste. I've been to Pats and Genos in the heart of Philadelphia and have had the 'best' cheesesteaks there are. So I think I might have a high standard when it comes to this. But, still, there wasn't any flavor in it besides the onions, peppers and cheese. My fries were hot on the outside and cold on the inside. Aside from that they were decent. The waiting staff was fast, friendly and made sure our drinks were filled. Anyways, I might give this place another shot, hoping I may have caught them on an off day. First time here! Food was delicious with huge portions. Prices are reasonable and the server was very friendly and helpful. We got our food very quickly. We have been going there for almost 20 years and the service and food has remained amazing and consistent. Our food is always fresh and exactly as we ordered. I went hickory gardens at 9pm one night with two friends and i was excited thinking we were all going to have good food and great service. the parking lot was empty the open sign was on and the hours that day said they were open until 10pm. We got in sat down and the waitress came to our table and said they already closed the kitchen down!! I looked at her and said the sign says open until 10pm. She apologized and offered to get the manager. I politely said no and we left. The waitress was very nice and she seemed very embarrassed. The next time i went i wanted to order their creamy spinach soup which is amazing and its the only reason i wanted to go to hickory gardens! They said they did not have any but they will have some tomorrow!.. I ordered mashed potatoes and they said they ran out!! I didn't get anything i actually wanted to eat! I ordered steak. The food was disgusting, dry, hard and looked like left overs or processed food. I would not recommend this place to anyone! We go here three times a week. Until tonight, on a Saturday, at 8:43 pm we walk in and a lady working there said that they were closed. The times posted on the website and on the door that they are open until 10 pm on Saturdays. She did not offer any explanation and talked to us like we were dumb for trying to come in the restaurant.
