We have been here quite a few times since it opened. It seems like some days you go and the service and food is great. Other times...not so much. The last time we went with a larger group (9 of us) and it was blatantly obvious our waitress was not happy to have been stuck with us. She walked away as my husband was trying to place his drink order, she brought the wrong drinks...our orders were messed up. But the worst part was my husbands steak. He asked for a medium rare steak. When it finally came out, it was well done and actually burnt black on the bottom. He isn't one to send meals back but this was definitely not what he wanted to spend money on. They told him they would make him another steak. By this time we are all half way done our meals. My husbands steak comes out and the manager had him cut it in front of her to make sure it was cooked right. He cut into it and it was more of a blue rare. He said it's fine, I will eat it. But as he was putting it to his mouth, he made an awful face. He said I don't know if I should eat this. Next thing, there was this horrendous, putrid smell. The entire table started looking around to see what it might be. Turns out it was the steak. It smelled like old rotten cheese. My husband said I am definitely not eating this. The manager came over and we told her what happened. She took the steak away and came back to apologize to us, as it was definitely off. Our worry was that the first steak also was, so the chef tried to cook it to the point where you would not be able to notice the smell. The manager comped my husbands steak, but nothing else. He ended up not eating unfortunately. I was shocked they made him pay for anything. So was everyone at the table. The group we went out with was 8 adults and 2 children. I can safely say the experience was so bad that none of us will likely go back. Besides the bad steak(s) the majority of us did not get exactly what we ordered and were made to feel like we were a nuisance to the waitress. We have been coming here ever since we moved her in 2016. We have ways had a fantastic meal and only one was service not great. But is was not bad, slightly slow and waitress really didn't seem interested in being there But the Steak and Burger were great. So much I can't eat all the burger. Food is okay. They have revamped their menu a number of times over the last 2 years. The service at this location is the problem. It is often very slow. That's not enough to make me update a Yelp review. What is enough to make me update a Yelp review is a lack of professionalism. On our last visit, our server arrived wearing bright orange glitter eyeshadow. Painted on her face like Mimi from Drew Carey. It was just something I noted. As long as she was going to take our orders, bring our food and do her job well, I had no real issue with her appearance, you do you, and all that. It did make me question her judgment briefly, but it was by no means the only thing that made me question her judgment. This was a server young enough to think that wearing orange glitter eyeshadow to work was a good idea. And yet, she somehow thought it appropriate to address me using words like, "sweetie", "honey" and "baby" throughout the meal. I'm an IT professional, and at 47 I could be this girl's mother. I'm hopeful that she will read this, and realize that she needs to wait about 50 years before her use of those terms at a job will be either excusable or endearing. Even more irritating, was the fact that she did not refer to my husband using diminutive, cutesy terms. She actually treated him with respect and professionalism, while I sat across the table being called names like someone's puppy. Slow and incompetent service is one thing. I'm used to that from Hickory Tavern. Consistently addressing an adult female customer in a condescending fashion while treating my husband like an actual adult is quite another. I realize this is the south, and some people might incorrectly think this behavior is endearing. It is not. Unless you're someone's grandmother, you've got no business addressing your customers with diminutive cutesy nicknames, and you sure as hell should not treat your male and female customers differently - EVER. Had we actually received competent service, I wouldn't be as ticked off, but this young girl did not have the skillset or age to pull it off. At all. Orange eyeshadow girl, next time you show up at my table in any restaurant, I'm either going to get up and leave or ask for someone different. Hopefully you'll have read this, so you'll know why, because I'm not about to take the time at a restaurant to explain professionalism and etiquette to you. I have been here multiple times and I eat out a lot and I have never like been ignored like I have today I even work in retail so like I get being busy. But i ate by myself and I don't need much but I literally sat at my table with no drink or ranch for at least 10 minutes my server never even checked on me after taking my order I had to like yell for someone to acknowledge I needed something. The food was yummy, fresh and amazing. The service was great and they were very friendly. The ambiance was awesome.

A great place to watch the game have a beer and eat some good food. Came in around 2pm on a Monday and they were about 1/2 full and sat at the bar. Maria was at the bar and she was very friendly and helpful. Had a warm welcome attitude and the manager Heather stopped over too to make sure my food was cooked how I liked it. I got the french dip with added onions and it was perfect no day on it at all. Got a huge thing of tater tots and ranch. Overall a great experience and got to watch all the sports highlights. Heck yes! Follow me, as I know where all the good bars are. Came here famished, tired, in a bad mood. Guess what! They fixed me. I don't know their names but the bartenders were awesome. When I arrived it was wayyyyy too bright in there, like the surface of the sun. I asked if they could dim the bar lights a little, and even though that's a high maintenance request, they did it with out pause. I had the French Dip sammich! With Sweet potato fries. This was the BEST French dip I've ever had. It was lean, perfect and everything I needed. The sweet potato fries were awesome. It pains me to give this restaurant such a low rating. Almost 5 years ago, Hickory Tavern catered my wedding and it was amazing!!!! I would recommend their catering to anyone for any event!!! Better than most "fancy" caterers that would have easily cost us double the money. But alas, onto this location. The last two times we have been here, the place has been very quiet and the service and food still so slow. I often find that their food is good, but overpriced. It's truly nothing special, and it pains me to pay almost $7 for a small side salad. Yes it comes with a lot of toppings, but they should have an option like most restaurants do to add a simple salad in te $2-$3 range. I truly want this restaurant to do well simply on nostalgia alone, but with so many more dining choices coming to the area in the next year...I'm afraid people will easily take their business elsewhere. read more

I ordered the salmon on a plank and the plank was burnt to a crisp which made my salmon taste nasty. They must of used the plank over and over again until the wood disintegrated. Although it was a bit unpleasant watching how one girl who worked there talked to my server. As I write this review, I've been waiting for a table for 45 minutes but am looking at a half empty restaurant. This location of Hickory Tavern has just opened and the management apparently wasn't prepared. I've been told that the kitchen staff "doesn't know the menu yet" and is backed up, and so they're delaying seating for 45 minutes to allow the kitchen to catch up. I anticipate the kitchen manager and GM will both be getting a pink slip after this weekend! Major fail. read more

This location has been open for a few months now and I've been 2 or 3 times. I've been to plenty of Hickory Taverns before and I think even won the esteemed "Duke" title of the Ballantyne location a few times. Since this one is right down the road from me we went Saturday night with a party of 7. Start off with the décor. Nice. Plenty of TV's and gives you a great vibe upon walking in. Nice greeting station to welcome you which last night, was manned by 2 young gentlemen. Party of 7 eh? Do you want to sit at the bar? No, I don't with 3 young kids. Try again. We watched these 2 clueless young men sit plenty of other people while we waited for what seemed like 4 hours, but was actually 1 hr 15 minutes. Way too long. I understand there's going to be a wait for a large party but these kids had no clue how to work the room and turn tables. Oh, and since it was raining they weren't seating the outside patio area because it flooded. Sounds like a redesign is in order because they lost about 15 tables due to poor design. We finally sat down which was a good thing because I was about to ask for BBQ Sauce to apply to my shoe I was so hungry. We started off with the pretzels from the street food menu and the stuffed potato appetizers. Both were good. I had one of the best burgers I've had in quite some time, so I definitely recommend a burger. They cook them Medium Rare when asked which is an added bonus. My wife had the shrimp tacos which were poorly prepared and tasteless. Shrimp, iceburg lettuce and watery pico, in this day and age with all the other creative options I'm surprised. Iceburg lettuce? Who does that? Anyway. Since there are no options in Indian Land this location will stay in business. They really need to work the kinks out to make it a great experience. read more

Has been a go-to place for us many times. Last night almost ruined it. Seems like new staff,especially the hostess,aren't well trained in customer service. Told us we couldn't sit at the high tops unless she seated us. Since there was no one at any of the high tops we wondered who was in charge. Being rude to customers isn't a kind way to garner repeat business . Too many other places to eat here in IL to be TOLD how things were going to be . I do understand about spacing diners so wait staff can attend to needs properly and earn big tips but this new hostess wasn't going to give up her authority and let us sit where we wanted. Have been to this location a few times and yet to have what I would call a good experience. My first trip was on opening night and their entire draft beer selection was unavailable because there was a problem with the taps and had to drink bottled beer. Not a huge issue, but seems like you would work out those kinks before a grand opening. Over Xmas 2015, we went on a Friday night and were told 20 minutes for a table. It actually took 45 minutes and was past my sons bedtime before we actually even got our food. My Moms food never came because they forgot to make it. This last time, last week on Thursday which happened to be the first night the NCAA was playing Sweet 16 games, my neighbors ordered a specific beer. The waitress came back with mine, but told all of them they were out of what they wanted. Then a second order for a different beer was placed and she came back and said that was out, too. Once the beer fiasco was over, we ordered a 2nd round of drinks. The manager came out with all of the beers and put the wrong one in front of me. When I told him I didn't order that and told him what I did order, he took it back, but never brought me what I did want. Fifteen minutes later, the waitress asked me where my drink was, so I told her what happened. She looked at me in horror that the manager didn't make my order right. Food was OK, but still had to wait an extra 5 minutes for my tots. I guess making two things at once is too complicated. In my humble opinion, there are leadership issues at this location. The wait staff has always been pretty good. I like Hickory Tavern, but feel like I can get a better dining experience from the food trucks outside of my office uptown. read more

Beware: Substitutions on entrees are an upcharge. It does not mention it clearly on the menu. I ordered a Delmonico steak meal. I asked about the sides. The waitress points to the bottom left corner of the menu to 8 choices. I chose a side salad and sweet potato fries. My husband ordered the Delmonico also. He ordered sweet potato fries and fresh fruit. At neither time were we informed that there would be an upcharge for those choices. When the waitress was questioned, she did not offer to look into it. We called the manager over and explained it and she removed the charge. This was the second incident there in 2 weeks. The first one involved waiting for 45 minutes to receive our order for brunch. Wow.. So sad. Arrived to a mostly empty dining room, we were one of four tables. Jacob greeted us promptly and friendly. We ordered drinks which were delivered promptly. We were then told about the BOGO burger special. Two of us opted to get burgers. One ordered pink, the other I stated raw as to make a point to NOT overcook. When the cook time was approaching twenty minutes I flagged the server to reiterate not to let the kitchen overcook the burgers. He opted to go chat with the hostess instead. The burgers arrived extra well done!! I now know why they give you a burger for free. I added the cost of the free burger and tipped 20%. Went in a Saturday night my friend said the food was good and cheap. We were seated quickly outside. The floor was super dirty but it was cinco de Mayo and they had happy hour so I understood. I had the veggie burger and onion rings. None of it had any taste. My server was really sweet and nice but when I ordered I asked for ranch and then when she dropped the food we asked again and she never brought it. I was disappointed because she was so sweet.
