It's been four years since I wrote the first review for this place so time for an update. Me & Ben had some business at York County Court House so we decided to have lunch here early on a Monday. We sat at the bar and had great service from a young lady named Harper. Very professional and nice and a great representative for Customer Service for Hobo's. She said she has been there four years since they opened. We both had a salad. My usual with the 'build your own' option, going with iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes , avocado, croutons add the salmon for protection option all with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I was visiting a friend in nearby Fort Mill and asked her to pick a local place. She had been to Hobo's before and had a good experience. When we arrived at 6:30 pm on a Tuesday night it wasn't super crowded but busy enough that it was a good indication this place is a local favorite! I ordered a burger with salad and my son got the steak tacos. The burger was delicious! I didn't realize it was a double bacon cheeseburger so I ended up taking off one of the patties! It was huge! My son said the tacos were amazing. He also got the seasoned Cajun fries and said they were tasty but could have been spicier. As we were winding down, people were singing karaoke. There's also a lovely patio and outdoor area for kids to run around and play. We were in the middle of this heat wave or I would have eaten outdoors! Music was good and, in all, it gives the vibe of a local tap room with railroad themed decor true to its location. The menu was extensive with speciality burgers, tacos, salads and more! Sides included pasta salad, Cajun fries and other options you don't see everywhere. I'll make this a go to place next time we visit my friend! One note - there is also a location on Main Street in Fort Mill. It also has a back patio but the space overall is a lot smaller. I don't know how good the food and service is there, but if you're meeting friends just make sure to confirm locations! It's near a Bricks and Minifigs store. We've made numerous visits to Rock Hill to see our kids & grandson, but had never been to Hobo's. Recently, when they were out of town on a trip, we were in charge of watching our grandson for a few days, which happened to include St. Patrick's Day. We found a restaurant which advertised Irish food, beer and events for the holiday, and decided to go there. We targeted about 3pm, thinking that might help us get in okay. We checked in at the hostess stand, and were number 6 on the list. So we wandered around for awhile, and after 45 minutes, had moved up to number 5. The grandson was getting tired of waiting, so it was time to go. We don't know Rock Hill very well, but had seen Hobo's on the way in. I made a quick call to see how busy they were, and we pivoted and decided to forgo the Irish food, and just settle on dinner. But how lucky it turned out, as we walked in they had a sign advertising green beer, and a few Irish dishes. Joshua was our server, and when I ordered a green beer, he said he didn't think they had it, but would check. And he did track one down for me. My wife wanted a Reuben with turkey instead of pastrami, and he made that happen too. And finally, we had a grandson who was starting to get hangry, and Josh fast-tracked his cheese quesadilla. I ordered the sunrise burger, which was excellent, and a side of mac-n-cheese. Overall it was a great experience, and we're going to do this again. read more

Hobo's is what I call a happening place. It's a great place to hang out. The food is excellent, the staff is fun and nice. Never had a bad meal there. Great bartenders as well. Always have sports games on when they are playing if that's what you're into. Also, they have a nice patio, which is great to sit outside and have lunch or dinner outdoors. read more

Good food, nice casual dining that's good for the whole family! They have an enclosed outdoor area with cornhole! ...The menu is basically American grill but they throw in some neat twists. I visited Hobo's last Saturday, 6/13, around dinner time, 7pm-ish. This was mine and my husband's first time here. Will definitely be back! We ordered the boxcar taters, a build your own burger, and the martin's melt burger. The food was great! The atmosphere open and inviting. Our server, Olivia, was sweet and very attentive and checked on us multiple times throughout our meal. The manager on duty, I believe her name was Allie, was great as well. One bartender who helps management is repeatedly cutting off sober customers after 1-2 drinks with no valid reason. She is unnecessarily driving away paying customers, creating a negative experience, and hurting your establishment's reputation. We have had multiple of our fellow patrons say they specifically avoid the time of day this bartender works so they can enjoy their time there and I'm pretty sure her name is Harper read more

First time, burgers were over cooked and dry, fried green tomatoes needed a aioli of some kind. The pasta salad was extremely dry. It also needed some sort of dressing. The cokes were moist! read more

I'm not a fan of a "greasy spoon" type of place. If you are, this may be the place for you. The good: Lots of indoor and outdoor space. The milkshakes are really good. Not so good: Our waiter was pleasant, but could have done a better job of checking on us. He didn't take away used plates or glasses and my husband had to walk up to the bar to ask for a glass of water since I had drank my milkshake and needed something more to drink. The food was greasy. I got the grown up grilled cheese with fries ($10). I could only eat 1/2 before my stomach started rebelling. The burgers looked decent. Perhaps should have ordered that instead ? My husband ordered the huge tater tots and we were not impressed. Drinks: Milkshakes are excellent ($5). I did not get a boozey milkshake, but they have several for about $9. My friend ordered a martini and had to ask for it to be sent back and remade because they gave her a dirty martini, even though she didn't ask for one. Overall, I would not hurry back to this place. However, if you are looking for a place to eat after 9pm like we were, pickings are slim so it's an ok choice. Just be careful what you order. read more

I am not sure why I have been here 8 times because it does not improve. Whether it is management in the background being rude to staff or lazy servers, the food tends to always come out mediocre at best. How difficult is it to cook a hamburger or chicken sandwich? Seriously! I think they are hiring friends and family to run the shifts here because I cannot understand why they would pay someone to manage who has no actual idea what that means. This is a relatively new local restaurant/bar...and I think it's a local chain (?), with another location in Fort Mill. I met up with my husband for dinner on a weeknight, and surprisingly, it was fairly packed. The place itself was surprisingly big and lofty, with high ceilings...and with an all-wood decor, it has a very cozy, laid-back vibe. Lotsa TV (sports) screens, which I don't care for...but it IS partially a bar, so guess that can't be helped. Thankfully, the overhead music was really good, with an appropriate pop/rock selection and volume. Also, the service was really good...almost over-the-top good? Had 2 different staff members (managers) stop by to ask how our food was, in addition to our super-attentive waiter. Now, the food! The reason I wanted to check out this joint was because I saw a pic of their "Chicken & Waffle Sandwich". I've had plenty of "Chicken & Waffle" in other restaurants, but never one advertised as "Chicken & Waffle Sandwich". So of course I chose that, along with 2 sides...Cole Slaw and Pasta Salad. My husband chose Fish Sandwich with a side of Salad (and several beers). Well, the Chicken & Waffle Sandwich was better than I thought it'd be...but it could have been better. I wished the Chicken was more savory...and crispier. Also, the Waffle was much softer than the usual Waffle...but guess they made it more hand-held friendly? The most disappointing part was the sides. The Pasta Salad tasted WAY too bitter...too much Vinegar (and I hate the taste of Vinegar!)...and the Cole Slaw was very basic. Sadly, the foods were just O-Kay. Luckily, the foods were all priced very reasonably, so in a way, more than O-Kay? Overall, I liked the restaurant itself more than the foods...but I really liked the whole experience. Not quite a 4-star dining experience, but I would have liked to give it more than 3 stars. If only the foods were a tad better. It's another case where I wished I could have given 3.5 stars. Again, I really wish Yelp can change the rating system to include half stars. Sometimes I feel that the rating system is rather limited...and doesn't fully reflect the true quality of the restaurant. We are driving down the highway with a dog, and stopped in Rock Hill. Then we looked for a local restaurant that was dog friendly, and hit the jackpot here. Hobo's shares a parking lot with a local brewery and they have a nice outdoor space between them. We sat on the patio, and the ceiling fans made it very comfortable. Our friendly server brought our dog some water and was perfectly attentive. My wife had the BLT complete with fried green tomato and a side of fries and I had a delicious pork barbecue sandwich with a side of chips and a Pilsner from the brewery next door. The pork was perfectly smoked, and juicy without being too wet. The plaza with astroturfing had a number of children playing, and a few people enjoying beverages in chairs. Place was absolutely disgusting . We ordered wings they were chewy and under cooked. If you want a case of diarrhea this is the place for you. I would never recommend or bring anyone here. Don't know how this place is open food tasted old and expired this place should be reported to health and public safety of South Carolina. I order Cajun fries and I think they just dumped the whole container of seasoning on the fries it tasted like I was eating the Atlantic Ocean. Went here Friday before last (early, 4pm) for burgers and drinks. We were hoping to sit outside but there was no wheelchair accessible seating outside (which is illegal). Inside was very cold. Beer selection and drinks were good. Wife's burger was cooked great, she likes MR. My burger was also good, I don't like MR. Plenty of parking. Love the atmosphere. Seems super chill and laid back. Definitely, a family friendly environment. The hostess was quick and friendly. We were seated within 5 mins on a Monday night. It wasn't busy but not slow either. Our server was so sweet. We started with the Pimento Cheese Fritters (pimento made in house). Those were yummy and have a really good flavor. My daughter had the Kid's Chicken Fingers. She said they were okay but tasted a little over cooked. My husband had the Turkey Melt with cheese grits and he enjoyed it and said it was flavorful. He especially liked the grits. The fries are pretty good. I had the Voodoo Burger. It looked absolutely beautiful and I was so excited to bite into it since I had been craving a good craft burger. For me, it had absolutely no flavor to it and it wasn't really hot. It was juicy though. I mean look at the picture of this thing. It's beautiful. I was thoroughly disappointed. I went to Hobo's for the first time today and sat down at the bar. The bartender took my drink order and I asked her if they have fried pickles. She said they no longer have fried pickles, but they do have fried banana peppers, which I ordered. The fried banana peppers were absolutely delicious - probably better than any fried pickle I've ever eaten. As today is Sunday, they have mimosas and loaded Bloody Marys advertised on their drink menu. I ordered a loaded Bloody Mary and it was insane. Two bacon strips, two mini eggrolls, olives, celery and a lemon and lime wedge in a delicious Bloody Mary mix. I ordered the turkey melt sandwich for my main course and enjoyed it very much. There is also a nice outdoor dining area and several people had their pets (on a leash) with them, so apparently the outside patio is also pet friendly. Cool. read more

This isn't a review. It's a warning. Do not eat here! We ordered the Boxcar Tatters which came out concerningly fast. They were tasteless and luke warm. The chicken wings were undercooked and rubbery with a strange flavor. I could not eat any more because the wings were disgusting. The burger tasted like an old frozen patty. The fires were so salty they were inedible. We complained to our waitress who seemed surprised. Obviously she has never eaten here. I will say our server was very nice. I did not feel well after eating and rushed to use the bathroom in the restaurant. I do not know how Hobo's in Rock Hill is in business. Our server did tell us after back to back issues that it was her first day so we kept remembering that when we didn't get our drinks before our food or plates for the appetizer..there was a lot of excuses made but nothing done better, we tried to just encourage her telling her it gets better but she just had a snippy attitude and when we asked for our drinks refilled after the ice was melting it had sat so long she said "I JUST checked on y'all and you were fine...what do you want" drawn back we explained our mouths were full when she asked and she didn't notice the gestures towards the empty cups and we apologized. I dont know if this girl is in the right field of work with the way she approaches people. We had a table next to us who were having the same issues, she had just a bad habit of rolling her eyes and making excuses and not owning up to her mistakes. It's fine, just wish her the best..she needs to be trained desperately. Overall no complaints about the food or the space, I actually love the industrial aspect of the design in the place, very new age. The food was great flavor wise but ice cold and took quite a while to get out. When commented on it we were contested saying "no it's not" like when the server gave my son unsweetened tea as a refill for his sweetened tea...we told her and she said "no...its not" then said "oh we brewed a new batch and didn't put sugar in it yet" Excuses excuses excuses, a simple "oh okay no problem, yes ma'am I got it" goes a long way...js Server: Autumn I believe her name was, she has patch style tattoos on her left forearm (pip boy and something Harry Potter I think it was) We might try here again, hopefully it is a better experience? read more

I understand when a place is newer it may go through some growing pains. Our server served our drinks took our order, served our food then she completely disappeared for an extend period of time. I had ordered a sandwich called the T Money with fries which was a hamburger between 2 grill cheese sandwiches with the usual "fixin's" The sandwich came without any "fixin's". No lettuce, tomato, pickle or mayo. Literally a burger stuffed between 4 pieces of bread and cheese. The burger was dry and tasteless. The good part was the fries were excellent so while I waited for our server to return to address the lack of "fixin's" I scoffed down the fries dipped in Hobo sauce. When she did return she apologized and made the sandwich right and gave me a new order of fries. By that time my work colleague had finished his meal and was patiently waiting while engaging in conversation. I asked for a box when it arrived as to not hold up my colleague from concluding his lunch. They did everything I would expect and removed the T Money from the bill but he long wait after being served and the shear stupidity on the part of the kitchen staff to serve a burger with no "fixin's" and the fact that the server served my food without ensuring the order was correct set their fate on this review. The review went from a 2 star to 3 because those were outstanding fries and the Hobo sauce rocked. Thanks! read more

Our server, Gina, was fantastic! As first timers she thoroughly explained the menu to us. I had the fried fish sandwich and it was delicious! Everything was hot & fresh! I tried a bite of the wanderer and it was fantastic too. Shared a milkshake and it wasn't the thickest but tasted delicious! They give you a lot of fries. It was very clean inside. We have only been to this location once since it opened, and we gave it a bit of time to work out some of it's new opening kinks etc. We are so glad to have Hobo's in Rock Hill (we had been to the one in Fort Mill, but that location isn't very close to us). The service we had was top notch and the food was great, as well! The hubby had a burger, and I had the BLT (with avocado). It was the first time I had not gotten a burger there, and I was very happy with my meal - it might be my new go to! Definitely give this spot a try. I have heard of others who went having not as good of an experience, and I hate to make excuses, but it's a rough time for restaurants right now, and I feel like they are definitely trying very hard to make it right! Around 6pm on a wed. Got a new young male server. Took a few minutes to get service after seating. Took my sisters order then took my basic custom burger and tapped it into the ipad he held. Burger, medium, cheddar, onion lettuce and pickles. No tomato. Not much atrention by server as other servers sat and took orders and they got their food before us. Got a burger with no cheese, well done, tomatoes. No onions Ate some of it. Not the biggest deal but the server had no training in what to do. We mentioned the mistake it a few times to make sure no one got my order. Then mentioned "ill take care of it". Which i assumed meant it would be taken off the bill. They took off $1.50. Cmon. Thats pretty lousy We still tipped and tried our best but ill Probably never go back. read more

Checked with hostess on our table and we're about to be seated and she took another couple right in front of us. Needless to say we didn't stay, too bad cause we are great tippers. read more

need new cooks at the rock hill location! This is my 3rd visit here. second visit we ordered fried shrimp appetizer and got a winder looking plate only to find the shrimp inside was raw. we notified the server who looked surprised that we would complain and she replaced the app with only 3 shrimp. not sure if thought the one we spit out didn't count? now 3rd and my visit I ordered the club sandwich with home cut french fries. the fries were over cooked and literally crunchy ( how about changing your fryer oil more often) This was not the worst however. The sandwich comes with lettuce, mayo fried green tomato. I subbed fried tomatoes for unfried which they were able to do but I literally got maybe, really maybe1 slice of bacon on 1/2 half of the sandwich. so for $10.99 I got old over cooked fries cooked in old grease and a club sandwich missing the main ingredient, BACON! thinking back about the shrimp they looked cooked from the brown breadcrumbs on the outside but that's probably due to old fryer oil. Stick to a burger. those are pretty hard to miscount but good luck getting getting it cooked how you like read more

Stopped by for dinner and had the blackened salmon sandwich with chips. Service was good, the sandwich was excellent and the chips were a little over cooked for my liking but still edible. All in all, I enjoyed the meal and atmosphere and would definitely go back again. read more
