Redemption of the century. Came in and got seated. But waited nearly 20 minutes before we got GREETED let alone served. Waitresses and waiters just passed us by after looking at our table without food or drinks. Here comes the manager JD to absolutely save the day. This guy was great. My recent visit was a profound disappointment, marked by critical failures in both the execution of cooking and hospitality. I ordered a dozen wings, specifically requesting the wings crispy. As I opened the first wing, I discovered the interior was significantly undercooked, with visible blood near the bone. When I brought this to the server's attention, she dismissively asserted that the appearance was merely due to the meat adhering to the bone and that the poultry was fully cooked. Given my experience of cooking for the past 22 years, I proceeded to tell the server this was incorrect and it was not completely cooked. I declined the meal and requested only a to-go cup for my sweet tea. This is what they say they are, a sports bar. Bar food, lots of TVs, decent selection of beer, and a chill vibe that would be great for a game. With that being said, the food is just that. I got the pesto turkey club. It wasn't what I was expecting which I think is the big reason for disappointment. It needed more mayo or more pesto in my opinion. The turkey was thick cut and I think would have been better thinner. More tomato's would also be a bonus. Other than the food, the server we had was excellent. Funny, attentive, and good attitude. Staff didn't know what the World Cup was when asked if England game was on the tv. They had plenty of tvs and were playing repeats games of other sports. It's pretty bad when a restaurant allows a waiter to be rude to you and spread rumors saying you swore at them to management because they chose to stand there and chat with there friends rather than get your side and you have to wait while your food gets cold and you call them out for it. Finally made it back up to Hickory Tavern! It just happened to be the same day Carolina Coastal was playing LSU. Great timing as the establishment has several TV's and not a bad spot in the place. I ordered the Corn beef Reuben and sweet potato fries and a family member had the double cheeseburger mushroom /onion/swiss w/ sweet potato fries as well. The fries were delicious and were definitely just pulled out of the fryer as they were HOT (just how I love them) and were drizzled with a bit of honey .. yum right ! The Rueben was cooked just right with the rye perfectly crunchy. The burg was nice and juicy sandwiched between a fresh grilled bun and cooked just how he likes it. It was so good, I stopped to get one on my way home from the beach. I am now reminded to pick one up in the next few days. the food was horrible. we orderd the pre game appetizer, the chips were stale, the mozzarella sticks were way over cooked, and 2 of the dipping sauces were freezing cold. However the pretzel bites were delicious to bad there wasn't an edible dipping sauce for them. we both ordered the freedom burger and it should be called the grease burger. we took the grease saturated bun off and ate a portion of the hamburger. our waitress was attentive but when we told her about the food (after we paid) she said the cook likes to brush butter on the buns. it is not butter it's GREASE. we won't be back but you never know if you don't try. read more

Stopped by at 8:30 on a Friday night for a late meal. We were seated immediately, the place was not overly crowded. Our waiter was amazing, brought us our drinks and took our order. My daughter had the cob salad with shrimp, I had the fish and chips. Both meals were excellent, the fries were hot and crispy, the fish perfectly done. My daughter really enjoyed her cob salad, it's now her favorite. Overall a great atmosphere, with a well stocked bar and huge selection of draft beers... including local craft beers. Many years ago, we used to eat at the original Hickory Tavern in Hickory NC. The food was awesome and the experience was always pleasant. When we moved away, it was a sad day. Skip ahead to a week ago when we saw this restaurant in North Myrtle and were overjoyed to find out it was.a franchise of that original. We so lo looked forward to having dinner here. Unfortunately, the years apparently have not been so kind to Hickory Tavern as they branched out. It is so much more of just a sports bar than the original. Loud and less personal. Some of the same dishes are still available. One of those is the shrimps and grits, which was always my go to here. Thankfully the food was still ok, but lacks the flavor and pizzazz it once had. Service was really slow even though not crowded. Food took a while to come out. Drinks never got refilled. After our plates were taken up, I had to finally ask for the check after sitting patiently at an empty table for almost 10 min as our server was no where to be found. After trying the Hickory Tavern once and having a bad experience and leaving a negative review management reached out and sent a gift card. Upon returning and using my gift card my experience was much different. Management has definitely made changes and rectified the issues I experienced previously. This time I was greeted with a super friendly hostess that was at the door and greeting us with a smile. After being seated our waitress arrived quickly with menus, waters and took our drink orders. The ambiance of the place is great with lots of televisions to watch any sports event you would like to view. The FOOD - our orders arrived hot and fresh and the portions were plentiful. Everything was cooked to order. Nothing was the best in the world but everything was really good. Nothing to complain about! I will return after this experience!! Give this place a try! We frequent Hickory Tavern all summer when there. The food is always tasty and getting seating is rarely an issue. On our last visit in August our server, Shy (not sure of the spelling of her name but that's what her name sounded like), was awesome. I believe it was her first night working solo after training and she went above and beyond. I prefer to use aluminum foil to wrap my leftover sandwiches in and she hunted some down in the kitchen, which is so appreciated as it maintains the freshness. Unfortunately had a much different experience in our visit this year. Service was very slow. Nice server, just not good service. Food was ok. Drinks were made poorly and served with bad fruit. Waitress couldn't tell us the draft beers and just kept telling us to QR code the list. We eventually walked over to see the options. My daughter cheese quesadilla came out about 10 minutes after everyone else food. Since we wait for everyone to have their food, ours was cold when we ate. We came upon this establishment a few years ago (before I did Yelp reviews) and loved our experience. So we had to come back. As always, memories always win, however it was still a great dinner. The pretzel bites came out fast and were yummy! Unfortunately they were out of Shred Heads, their shredded potato appetizer. The rest of us got Buffalo chicken wraps, a burger, made to order salad, and Buffalo tenders. No complaints from anyone. I'll go ahead and put this out there though for other people like me - we sat at one of those tables that have flip out sides, creating long cracks in the wood for crumbs to get stuck in. Visited for the first time today! Hallie was our waitress and hands down probably the best of the best!! Very patient, attentive and friendly! We had the POW POW shrimp for an app - it was delicious. Ordered the chips and salsa too and although the salsa was good, I didn't care too much for the chips. My little one had the best of both worlds with her pasta & side of Mac & cheese - her two favorites! I loved my food truck chicken & rice plate (added a side of jalapeños which really adds the perfect kick to it). One of those experiences where the food was good, but the service started off bad. Came to the bar area and grabbed a high top by the bar. Our server was Will. He first asked us what we'd like to drink, and at the time I was undecided. My friend asked for a Snake Bite, to which our server said they didn't have that drink. I believe he didn't know what a Snake Bite is (usually Guinness & Cider). My friends decided on a couple Hazy IPAs instead. Will grabbed my friends' beers and dropped them off, I mentioned to him the Hazy sounded good and I'll take that when he gets a chance. Unfortunately he mockingly laughed at me, to which I asked why he's laughing? He replied that's what they already got. I as well replied that I knew that but was undecided at the moment. He kept laughing and walked away. I noted this to the manager and asked if we could grab another server. He apologized and we were given the server Brandy. She did a great job and finished off the rest of our time the right way. The food came out really good and Brandy did a great job taking care of us. Thanks Brandy. Popped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I wasn't expecting to enjoy lunch as much as I did with this being a chain but I really really enjoyed my lunch of the limited time only smoked sausage by Mike Ditka. It was a very good sausage and prepared well in the kitchen. Everyone I was dining with enjoyed both their lunch and their drinks. There were a good amount of items on both the drink and food menu that piqued my interest and I look forward to returning and trying. The menu has a nice assortment of options so this is a good place for groups or families with varied tastes. It's also a large place so they can accommodate groups easily.
