My family went in to this shop on Sunday morning 5/3/2026 to purchase some Blue Feigning Death Beetles for my 7 year old daughter. When my daughter asked to hold one the guy working that day (Mike) grabbed a bearded dragon and gave it to her instead. The bearded dragon just sat there with his eyes closed. She immediately fell in love and he said he had everything we needed for him and it would cost us about 300.00. He said he was 3 years old and just cleared medically for sale. He was very calm and cold and Mike said that's because he was in brumation currently and also his enclosure there wasn't warm enough for him. He gave us a tank, some sand, a log, a bowl, and a dual light with a ceramic heating bulb and mini UVB light. He said that's all we needed. I asked about food and he said just give him as many crickets as he wants every day and calcium 2x a week. We got out of there for about 400.00. As soon as we got home we started doing research an found out the tank was too small for a full grown bearded dragon, the substrate was wrong for a bearded dragon, the UVB light and heating element were also incorrect. The feeding instructions were wrong, bearded dragons need a variety of bugs weekly and fresh mixed greens daily. They didn't tell us he needed hiding spots and climbing spots. We ended up ordering the CORRECT size cage for a bearded dragon and tons of other things he needed we were either told incorrect information about or just not told entirely. Then as we continued researching, we realized that this bearded dragon was very ill. We had to rush him to an emergency reptile vet where we were told that this bearded dragon had obviously been mistreated for a very long time and poorly cared for. He was extremely malnourished, underweight, dehydrated, and they had also found a mass in his abdomen. He then recommended euthanasia or attempting to syringe feed him to see if he might come back from this. Since we were told he was 3 years old we obviously wanted to try everything we could to save him. On the way home from the vet a different employee from the store found my personal Facebook profile and then continued to inform me the bearded dragon was at the end stages of his life and that it's my fault for purchasing a clearly sick animal and trusting their employee to know the proper information and care for this animal. They admitted to knowingly selling and profiting off a sick animal that was dying. They emotionally manipulated a 7 year old little girl and her whole family just to make a quick buck and move product. They refuse to make this right. I've attempted to speak with the owner multiple times to no avail and after the incredibly unprofessional conversation with this last employee Tina I'm done trying to give chances. I will be reporting to the BBB and calling the department of Riverside animal abuse division to report the conditions these animals are being kept in and the state of the animal they sold me. read more

I love this place! Jim, Brian and Heather are part of my world now. I actually look forward to buying worms and bugs for my scaled beasts! LOL ...BUT DID TOU KNOW THEY HAVE PET GROOMING AS WELL!?!?!? I wish I could make a post to let every dog owner know about Heather. Places like PetSmart and Petco won't take many special needs dogs. Even with a vet note. Heather will listen and do what she can to help. She's caring, gentle, loving but no nonsense. She immediately recognized my Bentley's BS and let him know she was on to his tricks. He was too much for other groomers, but after one visit with Heather, he was smitten. She's the only person he loves as much as me. Bentley is a rescue with an ugly past. It's been a long journey. So his love for Heather and her patience and understanding means the world to me. read more

This location is really good and know their reptiles. I prefer this place over a Big Chain Pet Store. Brian-Chris and Sid know what they're doing and are very helpful. On my way in to get my dogs nails trimmed there was a lady outside hysterically crying. We asked her what happened she told us that she took her bird in there for a trim. The trimmer cut something killing the bird. We heard the owner talk on the phone saying this isnt the first time this has happened. We left immediately! Poor lady read more

Came in looking for mealworms for my chickens and fishing adventures in bulk. I walked around for about five minutes waiting for someone to help me. I was petting a huge black cat while I waited. A young man name Meshach appeared and asked what I needed help with. He gave me the worm size tour. I got to meet the two owners although they were very busy took time to say hello. Normally I would give my "no greeting" time spent a 3 star but they made up for it in customer service. If you are looking for reptiles they have a lot. Dirty and hazardous. Popped in here on a whim not expecting anything but left feeling very sad. The floor is covered in water, everything is horribly crowded and cluttered with crap on the floor. Kritters is one of the few "Mom and Pop" pet stores left in Hemet. I really only come here for fish, and I found the employees here to be quite friendly. They're always happy to help me with anything fish related, and it seems like they really enjoy their job. Before they moved locations, they had way more fish for sale. I remember that they had an entire wall dedicated to live fish at the old location. Currently, the selection is very small, and nowhere near what it used to be. I'm often forced to go to the chain stores, because they just have way more variety. The pricing on the fish also varies, with some fish being very cheap and others being overpriced. The store also smells kinda bad, which is off-putting when you first enter. I understand that this is a pet store, but you can definitely keep things cleaner. Overall, Kritters is alright. I liked them a lot better at their old location because they had a better fish variety. read more

We got our healthy and beautiful Rose Hair tarantula here at Kritters! My boyfriend and I are happy with our purchase! We got help easily with housing and materials needed for our new spider as well as fresh food for her. I worked at Kritters for a good seven months, and enjoyed the atmosphere, as well as the work itself. The animals were always taken care of (still are!), and the staff is friendly. I have never once seen or let the phone ring continuously, either myself or a co-worker answered. Customers seemed to enjoy going there, as I did, and I never once heard a complaint. From fish to snakes to birds to rats, the animals were healthy and happy, and never struck out once at anyone. I miss it very much, and recommend to anyone in the need of feeder mice/rats or somewhere to get a pet for your child!! read more

If you're looking for a "mom and pop" type pet store to support in the area-Kritter's is for you. Not your average pet store-more fish/reptile based. The staff, especially Chris, is beyond knowledgeable when it comes to your pet needs. Prices are far better than the bigger chains in town plus, its a small, local business. 10/10, would highly recommend. We will no longer go anywhere else for our fish needs. read more

Went in there to get a couple of fuzzies for a snake that I was keeping over winter break from my kids classroom. The gentleman there was extremely friendly and was showing a small child their very large snake that they have there. Big yellow snake not very sure what kind it was but it was sure cute. Had we've been 10 feet long or so. And you super friendly and if I ever have to watch Hercules again I will go there for my fuzzy :-) Hard to find good family pet stores anymore. read more

I was very excited about this groomer when I heard about it from my neighbor. She gave this place a great review and I was looking forward to trying it out. However, have called so many times I lost count and I can't get through to an actual person OR an answering machine. The phone just rings all day and no one picks up. Make sure to do your research on the pet you want to buy because the manager Bryan or Ryan is horrible and doesn't have no knowledge on the animals they sell, I called and complain because he sold me a pregnant teddy bear hamster(Syrian hamster) and I did not sign up for that, I only wanted 1 not a whole litter of babies. He wouldn't give me my money back and continued to say "I'll be at the store all day, I'll take care of you." Nor did he ever say that he'll refund my money. I'm giving this place the benefit of the doubt. I have no idea how to take care of reptiles, but the rodents were in pretty bad condition. Water bottles weren't filled, and the cages were a mess. And the hamster section was pretty bad, too. They don't have hamsters, but the products they were selling were the stereotypical 'bad' ones like barred wheels and pine bedding. Aside from this, I really think the reptiles had good habitats and food. There were a lot of snakes and lizards, but there was also fish! (There's also a couple of cats roaming around for you!!) I really enjoyed roaming around the store, so 3 stars. Has room for improvement, which is good, as long as they learn from it! read more

Today I had a free rat and was only given a discount for the price of a baby mouse instead after I had to drive to the bank to withdrawal money due to their machine being down.
