Aside from the gentleman who sat us, everyone there seemed miserable. From the servers to staff cleaning tables, everyone looked like they couldn't wait to leave. It almost felt awkward being there. This is the second time we've been there and the first time was similar - drinks were great, food was good, service left a lot to be desired. I forgot to add that 20% gratuity is automatically applied to your bill. That explains why there's no staff accountability. I appreciate the owner's AI reply about my concerns (and a lot of other people's), but it'd be great if something was actually done to improve the service. Not forcing a 20% gratuity onto customers is a great start. We shouldn't be forced to pay gratuity for terrible service. The whole point of gratuity is to incentivize good service, not help pay an employee's wage.

We grabbed seats at the bar and started to settle in--until I saw the sign saying they add a mandatory 20% gratuity to all tabs. That's a big issue for me. If tips are guaranteed, where's the motivation for good service? Unfortunately, that concern proved true. It took a while to get our drinks, and we had to flag the bartender down to order appetizers. I got the cheese sticks and my buddy got the catfish. Both were tasty--no complaints on the food. The biggest downside? It was insanely loud. So loud that my Apple Watch actually alerted me about excessive noise levels. It made it really tough to have a conversation, and we ended up leaving early. Even cashing out took longer than it should have. While it's conveniently close to my new office, I don't see myself coming back. The forced gratuity policy and overwhelming noise make it a one-and-done for me.

After researching for weeks for the perfect venue, my mom, another bridesmaid, and I decided on The Whitney for the party. We coordinated with the team at The Whitney a few months earlier to plan an afternoon tea party for my sister and 27 close friends and family in one of their many private rooms. There was a deposit we paid to reserve the room and it was $59 per person for a multi-course meal and dedicated service. They were easy to deal with and very transparent about rules, pricing, and the menu. Allergies were also accommodated. Valet parking is $10 a car which most guests used although I found street parking nearby. This huge mansion was packed the day of the party! Many, MANY others had the same idea as us and we saw other bridal parties, birthday parties, graduation parties, and even a wedding happening at the same time. Yet, our group felt very special all the same. We took some time to partake in a mini tour of the mansion and took lots of pictures of us in our tea party dresses in front of the gorgeous stained glass windows all throughout. There is a dress code that must be adhered to to dine here so check out their website for those rules. So the venue was beautiful, the staff professional, and the prices were decent - but was the food any good? Not surprisingly, yes! Each person could have as much tea as they wanted from a few offerings and we were also treated to a glass of mimosa or champagne (or a non-alcoholic glass of bubbly if preferred). Over a leisurely 3 hours (we booked a long time so we could do bridal party activities and open gifts), our party drank and ate a delicious afternoon tea multi-course meal with a trio of homemade desserts at the end. My favorite item was our first course actually, two large scones with whipped honey butter and jam. The scones were a hit for most of the party as well. We also had fresh berries and cream and then a trio of savory sandwiches and canapes. I wasn't a huge fan of the roast beef sandwich or the salmon crostini but that's my personal preference. All leftovers were packed up nicely for guests to take home. I was full halfway through so I ended up taking a few things home. Out of all the savory sandwiches, the Italian sandwich on a baguette was my favorite. My mother and a few others do not eat pork so The Whitney graciously swapped those out for a multiple of one of the other offerings. We did overstay our time slot by 30 minutes but The Whitney did not penalize us (they would if it was any longer though, understandably). But they did help us clean up so we could get out sooner, haha. Overall, my sister's bridal party was a huge hit and I would recommend anyone reading this review to consider The Whitney as their event venue for their party. Made reservations online which was super easy and said we were visiting for my birthday. Valet parking was easy. Be sure to walk around both outside and inside to take in the house and grounds. Hostess staff were OK. Kind of quiet and not overly welcoming. Our waitress was amazing. Personable, attentive, and friendly. She even indulged us with some of her paranormal stories that she has experienced at the house. The menu was customized for my birthday. After we ordered, the menu was rolled up in a little scroll as a keepsake. I went with the lobster bisque soup, and my husband got the soup of the day, which was a poblano soup. Very elegantly our soups were poured in front of us to ensure that they were hot as possible. The lobster bisque was so smooth. You probably got a quarter of a cup or maybe an eighth of a cup of lobster meat, though. Menu wise is small and refined. I went with the beef Wellington and ordered it medium rare. It came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. My husband got the brick chicken which also came with vegetables and redskin potatoes. Very nicely plated and our meals were so delicious. The portion size were pretty good, but not too much to where you feel like you ate too much. We were seated in the receiving room, which is a pretty room, but next time I'm not sure if you can request being seated in other rooms. The study, formal dining room, library, and music room on the first floor are a lot more grand and rich with original wood. The receiving room is all white plaster, but a really cool feature is the white Onyx that surrounds the fireplace. Great cocktail menu along with beer and wine. Dessert menu has a lot of good options. We went with the lumber Barron, this was probably the most disappointing of our meal. Just kind of lackluster and didn't taste like much. The chocolate coating really overpowered much of the other flavors of the dessert. When dessert came out, the waitress told us that the piano player would play happy birthday in honor of me. It was a pretty cool sequence. Lastly, when we wrapped up my meal, I was given a red rose. Due to going on my birthday. I was able to receive $50 off our meal. But the waitress had to go take my license to the back to get it approved. Our waitress told us that after dinner to meet up with the tour guide for a tour of the home. The tour guy was very personable and had a flashlight pointing out the different types of details. She was full of knowledge and took her time with sharing different facts about the house. If there was nobody in a room, then we were allowed to go in the room. But if people were dining, then you were not allowed to go in that room. They're also was a private event happening in the ghost bar, so we unfortunately we're not allowed to explore that area. I did notice some people celebrating anniversaries. Their table was furnished with a flower arrangement. Can't say enough on what a great dining experience we had. I would especially recommend going to celebrate a birthday or an anniversary.
