The Buffalo wings are the best thing in the menu! Always on point and consistent. The service is good in the bar area, it's always packed on the weekend but I still enjoy going. Music is pretty loud so be prepared for that but it's a good spot to go when I come back home to visit. I really want to come for brunch next time! But I keep missing the time that it ends...

My family and I went for Sunday brunch to celebrate a birthday. I recommend having a reservation because they are crowded on Sundays. There is a Dj who plays a nice mix of current and old school music. Service is was fast and my food was good. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The potatoes and eggs needed salt and pepper, but they didn't require a lot. Everyone in my group enjoyed their food and we had a good time vibing to the music without it being too loud. I will definitely be back.

Food - I had the spicy chicken sandwich and fries. The chicken was grilled but it definitely held its flavor and juiciness. As for the chipotle sauce ask for it on the side because it did make the sandwich HOT, lol. If you're not used to heat I suggest you get something else. The sandwich was 10/10 but what would have taken it to the next level would have been some BACON!!!!!!! The fries were temperature hot and I love my food hot to the touch. The sweet potato cheesecake was tasty. My friend stated it was equivalent to a coffee cake, but I think that it was more in line with a carrot cake. Also got a piece of the lemon cake which was served warm...it was yummy also. Service - was quick; the server was personable. Ambience- it's a cute little spot...it's small and quaint 18% gratuity for all checks If your visiting to Detroit or even if you are a native go to The Block, you won't be disappointed

Recently visited Detroit and The Block was recommended. Upon entry, the staff was very friendly and attentive. Our server made great recommendations and they were spot on! The portion sizes were great as well. I had the shrimp and tacos, and my friend had the burgers. All were super delicious! I definitely want to come back and try their brunch.

We were in town for the Detroit Tigers opening day game and looking support black-owned businesses or restaurants. We found this place and we are not disappointed. The hostess who greeted us when we walked in was all smiles and super friendly. She sat us on the side where the bar is but there was also a side with nothing but tables so if you didn't want to be near the bar you didn't have to be. There was plenty of light from the huge windows in the front. The menu you access by scanning a QR code and it comes up as a PDF on your phone. The menu is a bit limited but I think that's so that they can focus on what they do well and that is definitely the wings! The wings had some sweet chili on them and everybody was eating them so we had to try them and they were absolutely amazing! They were fried hard like we like them, super sticky and sweet, and not huge like you wonder what was done to them to make them grow so big. Haha. The burger was delicious also; it was juicy and crunchy on the edges and a nice size especially considering it was like a $20 Burger (I took a star for this) . The prices were a bit high but you pay for the quality I guess. I also got a drink called "Say Less" which the name alone cracks me up. It was lemonade raspberry and dusse. This drunk was $16. Good but the bartender has a heavy hand, FYI if you driving. We also got something called shotgun shrimp which was similar to boom boom shrimp but not as saucy. Also great. Esp with these little things that look like cherries but they weren't there were some kind of pepper little red pepper. Yum! Plenty of street parking. It's also within walking distance of Wayne State University and a bakery. There's lots of seating. The food came really fast and fresh. The walls are decorated in really cool art that it seems to be locally done as it references midtown and the cass corridor of Detroit. I definitely plan to go back here and would urge anyone to stop by. Even on our way out the hostess asked us if we needed a bag and then bagged it for us ...we had two little boxes. Lol. It was a really friendly inviting atmosphere and the food was great and I would come back anytime.

When you walk into the place it feels like you are being invited into a home. The customer service is just like that. The wood tables and stools are actually comfortable. Nice music in the background and the painted murals on the walls is cool. The salad was delicious. The salmon was seasoned just right. It was enough of a salad for two servings. I'd highly recommend this place.

My first visit here was on my birthday in 2025. I tried the Woodward wings with buffalo sauce and the spinach dip and I couldn't stop thinking about it ever since! I decided to go solo this past Sunday during brunch and it was lit. They had a live DJ and the throwback music was everything. This time I tried the shrimp n grits with a side of scrambled eggs and the Boozy punch and that little punch had me leaning okayyy?! I loved the energy of this place both times. I would recommend you get there early if you are doing brunch or make a reservation (if you can get one). I will definitely be back for the food and vibes!!

A lil on the spicy side but pretty tasteful and fulfilling app for happy hour. I would order again. Spent a Saturday early evening at the bar and it was pretty crowded. Reservations were encouraged for table seating. Staff were nice.

Oh my goodness! It was great to be in the D and visit with the amazing team at The Block. The food and the service was excellent. The culture is alive and kicking in this bar and kitchen! Live DJ during our brunch too and fun to meet Chef Kenny Parker!

Slightly short staffed but never a long wait. Food is always hot, delicious and fresh. Bartender makes the perfect drink every time. Walking distance to Garden Bowl, Majestic Theater and the Medical District.

We were in town for a concert at the Majestic Theater. It was easy to make reservations for a Saturday night. I parked on the side street for $4 without realizing that I was literally across the street from the parking garage that I booked for the concert . So there are several inexpensive places to park! When we sat down at a high top, the menu is via QR code. I prefer a physical menu and surprisingly so does my friend who is much younger than me! We had a great friendly server who was patient with us when trying decide what to order. She did recommend the spinach artichoke dip and their wings but we opted for no appetizers. We saw the dip en route to another table and it looked amazing! I ordered the strawberry harvest salad with grilled chicken, feta, pecans and balsamic dressing. It was delicious and a huge portion! My friend ordered the avocado Greek salad with chicken and devoured it. My husband had the salmon BLT with fries, which were hot and crispy! We couldn't think about dessert but our server recommended the sweet potato cheesecake which sounded intriguing. I knew from previous reviews that it would be loud and it was but I didn't feel like I had to yell to have a conversation. There are 2 unisex restrooms available.

What a beautiful time! Came on Mothers Day weekend Saturday for brunch. From the time we walked in, the atmosphere was fabulous! We didn't have reservations, but we did arrive close to the time of opening. We waited less than 10 minutes for a table, so that was exciting! The staff was amazing and the DJ was top-notch! The drinks, the food, all wonderful. We were laughing and singing the entire time. We even got up and hustled, per the dj request. There is an 18% gratuity per table, so be aware of that. The service is exceptional, so I feel that's appropriate. I can definitely see myself returning.

So I came for brunch. Actually it was kind of an accident LOL. I was supposed to go to one brunch spot but they had a out of this world wait. So while waiting we went to the block. And the block wasn't super full. So we just said let's just sit here and drink, and then we said let's just sit here and eat LOL. Service was good. No complaints about that. The guy who will served us came out and shafted up with us. One of my friends had a relative back there. He even came out to kick it with us as well. I enjoy the environment so this was a hit for me. If you come here, be aware that it's street parking. Depending on what time of day it is, you may have to pay. I think that I was on a Sunday so I didn't have to worry about that part, but there's street parking on Woodward or around the corner from it as well so it's basically kind of get it how you live. Spinach dip - spinach dip was really good. I would definitely recommend this being something to try. We had like six people at the table and I kind of wanted more! But it was really good. Had the right amount of cream in it and it made it savory. Double down burger - Now this burger, I had no reason to eat this LOL but it was good. The burger came on a plate with a bunch of melted cheese on it. So if you're a lactose intolerant person and it's an issue, you cannot touch this LOL. But, it was super good regardless though. If you look at the picture, you'll get it LOL. Chicken lettuce wraps - those lettuce wraps were fire! They came with some lettuce and you just dumped the toppings in. But the toppings that they gave you, the flavor was off the charts! I thoroughly enjoyed them. Chicken sausage - Chicken sausages chicken sausage. It depends on how well done it is. I like mine with a little bit of crisp to it so they did that. Grits - The grips were good. They tasted like they actually seasoned them and I could appreciate that. Overall, I'll definitely go back to the block. I've been going to the block since at first was established, and it typically doesn't miss. It's good for happy hour even more so. But when I'm home, the block is solid!

For dessert we had the chocolate brownie with cinnamon ice cream. The ice cream was the star of that dish. My only issue was the volume of this cool place. Music was loud and the patrons were louder. From the second you walk in, it's obvious this place isn't just another bar -- it's a neighborhood hangout with serious personality. The rustic-brick interior and laid-back energy set the tone perfectly for a night out with friends or a chill stop before hitting other downtown spots. The menu is packed with attention-grabbing comfort bar food that goes way beyond typical pub grub -- think flavorful sandwiches, crispy fries, and dishes that pair insanely well with a cold drink. One of the best parts? Wednesday night trivia. It's the kind of event that turns a midweek night into a destination night. Trivia kicks off in the evening and runs until the fun's done, complete with drink specials (like discounted pitchers and fun cocktails) and a crowd that's all about playing hard and laughing harder. Whether you're a regular trivia team or just looking to make new friends, it's a blast and a perfect reason to mark your calendar every week. The drinks lineup here is solid too -- from craft beers on tap to creative cocktails -- and the bartenders know what they're doing whether you're asking for something classic or bold. Honestly, the name might be "Second Best," but this place is easily first in my book for good times, good eats, and good people. If you haven't been yet, trust me -- go get some.

Atmosphere is nice, decor is very cool, and the setting is intimate, but when it fills up, it is quite loud. Regarding accommodations, for our teen daughter, the chef went WELL beyond normal accommodations to modify the Steelhead Trout dish to allow her to enjoy what she called "the best fish I've ever had". He absolutely made her night. We all shared the Brussel Sprouts (w/ honey, lime, & chicken skin) and Octopus appetizers. The Brussels were heavenly and the octopus was flavorful and tender (very nicely prepared). Aside from the Steelhead entrée, my wife and son both had the Ribeye Cap w/ yaji, peanut, & kiwi. They couldn't stop raving about it. The pairing of kiwi with steak was delicious and creative! I ordered the Lobster dish and honestly, it was better than many top tier seafood restaurants I've visited. It featured tail & claw meat atop a crab cake with a citrus beurre blanc and crispy wontons. I'd go back just for this dish. For dessert, we tried the PB&J Napoleon, and found the berry sorbet to be ridiculously fresh and bursting with flavor. Portion sizes were just right. Everyone left well satiated, but not overly full. We had a reservation, and I'd highly recommend if you're thinking of going, you get one as well. It was a full house the entire time we were there, and it was only midweek.

AMBIENCE - definitely a hip spot, not too dark, not too light. the hosts were very friendly and accommodating as we hit some traffic on our way in and had to switch our reservations to 40 minutes later. We ended up being placed on the "veranda" which was an enclosed space with about 4-5 tables. They had heaters, but fortunately, it was warm enough that they were not needed. SERVICE - my friend made it well known that we were there for my birthday, but I'd like to think even without the birthday drop, we would have gotten great service. Our server was friendly, attentive and made a number of recommendations to help guide our dining experience. MENU - Grey ghost has a rotating menu, with a few items that our consistently featured (I'll talk about my burger later). An interesting array of starters including brussel sprouts and coconut shrimp as well as a great variety of main entrees. I feel like there was something for all tastes at this place. They also had a good variety of cocktails and mocktails. FOOD - We started off with shrimp tempura which had a tropical salad of some sort served with it. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the tropical salad really complimented it very well. We also decided to try their home made Rock and Rye (their take on Faygo's marquee drink of the same name). The Rock and Rye was decent, but if you want rock and rye, nothing beats the original. For our main dishes, a number of things caught our eye. including the lamb and ribeye, but we ended up going with their burger and a side of fries and their wild boar pappardelle. I've heard Grey Ghost has one of the best burgers in Detroit, and it did not disappoint. And you know we had put an egg on it and it was rocking. I don't know what the burger sauce they put on it was, but it seemed like a much, MUCH better executed big mac. The fries were great as well. The pappardelle was good, nothing mind blowing, but a solid entree in it's own right. I was curious how the burger here compares to the one at their sister restaurant (Little Ghost) and the host said the quality of meat used in the patty is better at Grey Ghost than little ghost. Guess I'm going to have to go there as well. OVERALL - definitely worth a visit. I'd say a good spot for a first date, or some other sort of special occasion. I won't wait as long to make a trip back to this place, that's for sure. CELEBRITY RATING - Collin Jost

Lauren took great care of us and encouraged us to order whatever we were craving. Dangerous advice, but we happily accepted . Warning - the ratings are real. They're not a mistake. We started with our usual cocktail, the Instant Karma (5/5). It is the perfect balance of citrus and salt with a light cucumber note. Clean, refreshing, and it pairs well with everything. The roasted sweet potato (6/5) is one of the best vegetable dishes in the city. The caramelized exterior gives way to a soft interior, and the crispy quinoa adds a subtle light crunch that plays against the creamy texture. The salsa macha brings a smoky, nutty depth without the heat, and the crema ties it all together. I had to physically stop myself from scraping the plate (actually they had to take it away ). The tagliatelle (5/5) with beef bolognese and parmesan was flawless. The pasta has that ideal handmade chew, and the bolognese is rich without being heavy. The parmesan blends perfectly into the sauce and stands out in every bite. The potato pierogi (10/5) were the star of the night. Soft potato-filled pillows with horseradish crema, apple, and crispy shallot pieces create this perfect sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy bite. Each forkful felt intentional and balanced. I felt guilty, because in my head, I didn't want to share with my wife, but I did anyways . The cruelty of having to split an odd number of pierogis...well played...we should have just ordered another one. We also ordered the smoked potatoes and the pan roasted half chicken with sauce au poivre (always 5/5 for both) The smoked potatoes, with raclette, and crème fraîche, are always a must. These winter variation was just as good! The chicken remains one of the most consistently well-executed mains in the city. I have tried recreating it at home with the cold pan method and it never comes close. Every time we dine here, it feels like four or five different dinner experiences in one evening. Selden Standard continues to set the bar for us in Detroit. We love the staff, the food, and the memories tied to this place. Cheers to many more amazing years to come!

I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. Service was good, but we both felt like it was slow. There was a slight glitch in the beginning of the night where the host stand didn't mark that we had checked in when we actually had, which probably contributed to the half hour wait at the bar. You may not even need ketchup actually. French onion - this burger was good. Came with some onion rings kinda on the side. It was cooked medium and they got it pretty right with the temp. The cheese was melted well and it was seasoned pretty good also. Blt - this was a good BLT and it was very stacked. I'm not sure if you can make it out from the picture but it had plenty of everything on here. The bacon tasted great. Tots - they came out really hot and super crispy and actually gave you a heck of a lot of them too so that definitely helped but these are really good and you didn't even need ketchup.

We were in town for the weekend and trying to check out some iconic Detroit items. Per my research…read morethis was a good place to try a Boston Cooler (vanilla ice cream and vernor's ginger ale). We were nearby after brunch and walked the few minutes down to Mercury Bar's corner. Given the weather outside, we would have taken any place that had four walls and basic heating but the aesthetic of MB was fun, kinda like a retro diner. We took a seat at the bar. Since the Boston cooler was already decided, we just needed to pick out a beverage. I briefly considered trying one of their draught beers but then remembered that would not be good for the bladder and we were a ways from the hotel. They have creative cocktails so that made it easy. We ordered both the (and this is from memory because they savagely don't have a cocktail menu online) cherry poppins (cherry whiskey, neither of us remember what else was in it other than the chardonnay float which was very interesting) and a basil ?italian margarita with blackberry. Both were very strongly flavored, not for child-like palates. The Boston cooler, btw, was BETTER THAN SEX. Good thing that shit isn't anywhere near where I live that could be dangerous. We didn't try any of the food but it looked delicious especially the pile of fries I saw on some plates as they were coming out for other patrons. Good spot I'm glad we parked here for some of our afternoon.
