I've come here twice and enjoyed my experience both times. The 1st time, I came to a trivia night with a live DJ which was fun. If you get there before 6:30, they have happy hour. I got some of their wings and the hype is real. They were soooo delicious! Very flavorful and filling. I got some Brussels sprouts to go with them but I didn't care for them. They put way too much sauce on them and they came topped with cashews. I would have preferred some seasoned roasted Brussels sprouts. The sauce was just too much... The 2nd time I came, I sat in the bar area and ordered the salmon sliders which was okay. They didn't have any flavor to them. The side of broccolini was amazing. This place is a whole VIBE... First time coming here and like I normally do I go onto Google to see if they do reservations. Bet - they do and seems like that the best Thang to do also lol music was really good (you have to like rap, r&b soul music) . At first it was just a radio playing the mysic and then a DJ arrived to kick it up a notch. all the ladies working were all so nice with smiles and just chilin like they actually liked their job. The Buffalo wings are the best thing in the menu! Always on point and consistent. The service is good in the bar area, it's always packed on the weekend but I still enjoy going. My family and I went for Sunday brunch to celebrate a birthday. I recommend having a reservation because they are crowded on Sundays. There is a Dj who plays a nice mix of current and old school music. Service is was fast and my food was good. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Food - I had the spicy chicken sandwich and fries. The chicken was grilled but it definitely held its flavor and juiciness. As for the chipotle sauce ask for it on the side because it did make the sandwich HOT, lol. If you're not used to heat I suggest you get something else. The sandwich was 10/10 but what would have taken it to the next level would have been some BACON!!!!!!! The fries were temperature hot and I love my food hot to the touch. The sweet potato cheesecake was tasty. My friend stated it was equivalent to a coffee cake, but I think that it was more in line with a carrot cake. My boyfriend and I were visiting town and decided to try this brunch spot after seeing it on TikTok. The food and drinks were amazing and definitely lived up to the hype. Unfortunately, the customer service at the bar did not. Our bartender, Seasly, didn't greet us, seemed uninterested, and came across as having a negative attitude throughout our visit. Recently visited Detroit and The Block was recommended. Upon entry, the staff was very friendly and attentive. Our server made great recommendations and they were spot on! We were in town for the Detroit Tigers opening day game and looking support black-owned businesses or restaurants. We found this place and we are not disappointed. The hostess who greeted us when we walked in was all smiles and super friendly. She sat us on the side where the bar is but there was also a side with nothing but tables so if you didn't want to be near the bar you didn't have to be. There was plenty of light from the huge windows in the front. The menu you access by scanning a QR code and it comes up as a PDF on your phone. The menu is a bit limited but I think that's so that they can focus on what they do well and that is definitely the wings! The wings had some sweet chili on them and everybody was eating them so we had to try them and they were absolutely amazing! They were fried hard like we like them, super sticky and sweet, and not huge like you wonder what was done to them to make them grow so big. Haha. The burger was delicious also; it was juicy and crunchy on the edges and a nice size especially considering it was like a $20 Burger (I took a star for this) . The prices were a bit high but you pay for the quality I guess. I also got a drink called "Say Less" which the name alone cracks me up. It was lemonade raspberry and dusse. This drunk was $16. Good but the bartender has a heavy hand, FYI if you driving. We also got something called shotgun shrimp which was similar to boom boom shrimp but not as saucy. Also great. Esp with these little things that look like cherries but they weren't there were some kind of pepper little red pepper. Yum! Plenty of street parking. It's also within walking distance of Wayne State University and a bakery. There's lots of seating. The food came really fast and fresh. The walls are decorated in really cool art that it seems to be locally done as it references midtown and the cass corridor of Detroit. I definitely plan to go back here and would urge anyone to stop by. Even on our way out the hostess asked us if we needed a bag and then bagged it for us ...we had two little boxes. Lol. When you walk into the place it feels like you are being invited into a home. The customer service is just like that. The wood tables and stools are actually comfortable. Nice music in the background and the painted murals on the walls is cool. The salad was delicious. The salmon was seasoned just right. It was enough of a salad for two servings. My first visit here was on my birthday in 2025. I tried the Woodward wings with buffalo sauce and the spinach dip and I couldn't stop thinking about it ever since! I decided to go solo this past Sunday during brunch and it was lit. They had a live DJ and the throwback music was everything. This review is strictly about my initial interactions and not the food since we left and didn't order. We had visited The Source a Black owned bookstore nearby visiting from DC and ATL. They suggested The Block. Since it's Saturday after Juneteenth and about 4pm we thought we would check it out. Upon entering the hostess was on her phone and took a moment to look up. No problem. I then ask if they can accommodate 2. She offers no greeting. Just asked if we have reservations. I say no but we are looking around and more than half the tables are empty. She then says well you can sit at the bar. Because we wanted to spend at Black owned businesses we say ok. She walks us over and just leaves, says nothing. It's kinda of tight at the bar. However there are tables with chairs that are all empty. So I wait for her to loop back around and ask if it's possible to sit there since it's part of the bar. She replies that's why I asked if you had reservations. Those are for reservations. Okkkkk. Again in the bar area and all empty along with a dining room area that was half empty. So we sit down and another server asks if we can move down to better utilize the seats in pairs. It was a smart request and she asked nicely. I think we were turned off by this point between the loud music and attitude. I will say another waitress in passing spoke and was very welcoming. Everyone has a bad day but the hostess was just rude for no reason. And if it's a staffing issue or something else, it's better ways to communicate. But referring to reservations repeatedly at 4pm with plenty of empty tables to squeeze ppl in at the bar was not it for us. We gave it a shot since The Source was very friendly and so we trusted they would send us to like minded business. That was not our experience. read more

We didn't have reservations, but we did arrive close to the time of opening. We waited less than 10 minutes for a table, so that was exciting! The staff was amazing and the DJ was top-notch! The drinks, the food, all wonderful. We were laughing and singing the entire time. We even got up and hustled, per the dj request. There is an 18% gratuity per table, so be aware of that. We were in town for a concert at the Majestic Theater. It was easy to make reservations for a Saturday night. I parked on the side street for $4 without realizing that I was literally across the street from the parking garage that I booked for the concert . So there are several inexpensive places to park! When we sat down at a high top, the menu is via QR code. I prefer a physical menu and surprisingly so does my friend who is much younger than me! We had a great friendly server who was patient with us when trying decide what to order. She did recommend the spinach artichoke dip and their wings but we opted for no appetizers. We saw the dip en route to another table and it looked amazing! I ordered the strawberry harvest salad with grilled chicken, feta, pecans and balsamic dressing. It was delicious and a huge portion! My friend ordered the avocado Greek salad with chicken and devoured it. My husband had the salmon BLT with fries, which were hot and crispy! We couldn't think about dessert but our server recommended the sweet potato cheesecake which sounded intriguing. My partner & I went here on Juneteenth around 1:35p or so! The restaurant was full as expected. It was very loud! We were told 15min wait because we didn't have a reservation. We were actually sat in 9 mins. But the food took long to come out. Over an hour to be exact. Ppl who arrived after us were eating before us. As we complained to the server, she sent over 2 drinks on them & the manager accompanied the bill. We were disappointed that the app came out with the food & our side salads weren't right away either! We adored every thing we ordered though. So I came for brunch. Actually it was kind of an accident LOL. I was supposed to go to one brunch spot but they had a out of this world wait. So while waiting we went to the block. And the block wasn't super full. So we just said let's just sit here and drink, and then we said let's just sit here and eat LOL. Service was good. No complaints about that. The guy who will served us came out and shafted up with us. One of my friends had a relative back there. He even came out to kick it with us as well. I enjoy the environment so this was a hit for me. If you come here, be aware that it's street parking. Depending on what time of day it is, you may have to pay. I think that I was on a Sunday so I didn't have to worry about that part, but there's street parking on Woodward or around the corner from it as well so it's basically kind of get it how you live. Spinach dip - spinach dip was really good. I would definitely recommend this being something to try. We had like six people at the table and I kind of wanted more! But it was really good. Had the right amount of cream in it and it made it savory. Double down burger - Now this burger, I had no reason to eat this LOL but it was good. The burger came on a plate with a bunch of melted cheese on it. So if you're a lactose intolerant person and it's an issue, you cannot touch this LOL. But, it was super good regardless though. If you look at the picture, you'll get it LOL. Chicken lettuce wraps - those lettuce wraps were fire! They came with some lettuce and you just dumped the toppings in. But the toppings that they gave you, the flavor was off the charts! I thoroughly enjoyed them. Chicken sausage - Chicken sausages chicken sausage. It depends on how well done it is. I like mine with a little bit of crisp to it so they did that. Grits - The grips were good. They tasted like they actually seasoned them and I could appreciate that. Overall, I'll definitely go back to the block. I've been going to the block since at first was established, and it typically doesn't miss. It's good for happy hour even more so. I enjoyed lunch at The Block this week. I joined my friend for a belated birthday lunch. I found it a cute casual space to enjoy one of the busiest areas in Detroit. The menu is straightforward, not a lot of fussiness. We both chose the short rib tacos. It was a great choice. I would definitely have it again. My friend loved his tacos and the atmosphere as well. We sat at the bar because the restaurant was expecting a large crowd from the neighboring orchestra hall. Every dish I saw looked appealing. The patrons at the bar all seemed familiar with the restaurant. That gave it a neighborhood bar kind of feel. It seemed like a great place for afterwork drinks. Well nothing like Sunday Brunch at the Block. You'll find parking on the side streets. This particular Sunday we were treated by a DJ and lots of group parties. The food is fantastic! I was going to a concert at the DSO with my sister last Thursday night and saw this place on the map and decided to try it since it was so close. We didn't make reservations but didn't have any problems getting seated. Loved how it is decorated, I didn't get to take any pictures but very modern/trendy but cozy at the same time. We had a very nice dinner on a Wednesday - we just missed happy hour, but would return for that! 3:30-6:30. I like the vibe - lively with views of Woodward Ave. There is always an eclectic mix of people walking by. Our server Van was attentive and friendly, and made our special requests for us. Drinks and food came out fast, and they gave a very nice pour on my hubby's drink. The food here is better than I expected. They have a rather small menu, but I think that works in their favor, because everything tasted really good. The wings looked a little dark, but were juicy on the inside and very flavorful - seasoned well and the homemade buffalo sauce was very yummy. They also have the good ranch here. Our salads were very fresh with nice spring mix and veggies, and my salmon and broccoli was seasoned and cooked absolutely perfectly. I didn't even ask for hot sauce. The salmon was smoky and juicy and tasted so good. And when I asked for double broccoli instead of potatoes, that wasn't a problem at all. It was really fresh and perfectly cooked - a very nice healthy dinner. My hubby had the double down burger and added bacon, and fries. The burger patty itself was actually seasoned and cooked really well with high quality meat. The homemade cheese sauce is dangerous! It's so good, you'll want to dip fries in that for sure. The fries were super crisp and seasoned; excellent fries. All in all, a very good meal. I will say that their bathroom could have used a little cleaning, and the hallway leading to the restrooms has chairs lined up and looks like a storage area - not the vibe.
