We stumbled upon this place and we were so happy that we did. We absolutely lost our minds in this place but especially the hubs. He had about 10 items before I was able to walk around and see what was available. This is reminiscent of Porto's but I believe this place is more Asian inspired. They had so many different options to choose from and we indulged wholeheartedly! I don't even remember what all we got as nothing is individually labeled but I do know I walked away with the salmon fried rice, which was so damn delicious. As of July 2026, they removed hot tofu pudding from the menu. This was my favorite item on their dine in menu, so here's me shouting into the void for them to add it back! I orginally called the JJ Bakery in Arcadia to order a cake, but they ran out of the flavor I wanted and they weren't going to get any more deliveries for the weekend. Luckily the lady I spoke to suggested I call the JJ Bakery & Cafe in Temple City. Oh, I didn't know they are also in Temple City. Thank you Miss! I called here and spoke to a nice lady who took my cake order. Lucky again, they had the 8 inch Vanilla Chiffon Cake layered with taro, red bean, and custard pudding in stock. It was only $39.80 no tax. Cool! This location is in the Elm Center Shopping Center. Plenty of free parking. Got here early morning. Line was short. Staff was friendly and helpful. Got my cake. Paid for it and left. I didn't have much time to peruse the bakery to check out their baked goods nor did I get a chance to sit in the cafe area. Pretty cool that they have bakery + cafe combo. Most other JJ Bakery don't have this setup. I will have to return here to give them a bit more attention and take more photos. As for the cake, it was very pretty with lots of fresh fruits on top. There was a good amount of taro with a thin layer of custard pudding. Great taro flavor and taste. Custard pudding had the perfect sweetness. I didn't get much red bean though. I forgot to take photos of the inside of cake. I'll have to order it again and examine it more closely. Nevertheless, great cake choice especially for the taro lovers! I used to work in another location, so I thought I'd be bored of the breads, but they just have really good food here. If you want a simple fluffy pork sung bun with a sweet mayo filling inside, jj has a really good one, im in love! Some of my other favorites are their strawberry and mango mochi, orange cake rolls, and seaweed roll bun. Its my favorite Taiwanese bakery, Im so sad my local one closed a few years ago in Alhambra. We visited for a special occasion cake and had originally placed an order for their tiramisu. But due to a last-minute change of heart (thanks, Dad!), we asked if we could switch it to a taro cake instead upon arrival. Honestly, I wouldn't have blamed them if they said no. But to our surprise, the staff was incredibly accommodating and handled the change with grace and efficiency. That kind of customer service deserves serious recognition. We chose a vanilla chiffon cake layered with red bean, taro, and pudding. Visually, it was stunning: elegantly decorated with fresh fruit on top, each piece artfully placed, and finished with a deep purple dusting that gave it a refined look. Taste-wise, it was everything we hoped for and more. The chiffon was light and airy, just the right amount of moist, and served as the perfect canvas for the trio of fillings. The taro was creamy and comforting, the red bean added a gentle earthy sweetness, and the pudding brought a soft richness that tied it all together. One of my favorite things in the world are Taiwanese macaroons which are kind of shaped like French macarons, but they're not made with almond flour and the dough itself tastes more like a very light sponge cake. I have actually been looking for these types of Taiwanese macaroons everywhere, and I have never seen them in America until I saw them at JJ's. I was really excited and it tasted pretty good too. Came for some dinner take out. Food is good and reliable. All the dishes I got today were fresh and delicious, not too salty. Cafe is open until 8pm. Dining area is clean and open. Located in a busy shopping center, I stopped by for some baked goods and saw a fellow Yelper there. We certainly know what's good in the area. I don't rate 5 stars to many businesses, this one earned it! The baked goods are individually wrapped on the shelves, which is very good. Some items are boxed and ready for gift-giving (see videos). I like this practice, it's good to know others are not touching your food like fruit and veggies in the grocery store. They have cakes for all occasions, each one looks like a work of art, almost too pretty to eat. They sell coffee, tea, juice, and other refreshments. By the cashier is a refrigerated section with prepared meals, packaged and ready to take home, and simply heat for lunch or dinner. Imma be honest.. I come here at least once a week. I live nearby and it's very convenient. Plus I will say I prefer JJ Bakery over Sunmerry which is across the street but hey I go there too I don't discriminate. I like that there is a restaurant connected to this bakery so if you want food, you can grab something to eat. If I'm in a rush for lunch I'll get the braised pork over rice and maybe bean curd/bamboo shoots. What I also love is that JJ's has ready made drinks in their refrigerated section, now I get that you can't order fancier drinks but who doesn't love a good Jasmine Milk Tea or just a Green/Black Tea that you can grab and be out the door? With lots of items to choose, my friends suggested any of the combo sets which range between $12-15, that come with soup and two sides. I choose the grilled mackerel and it was so good. The sides and soup was okay, but I enjoyed the variety. For the price, I was very full and had to take home leftovers. Also it is connected to a delicious bakery. This JJ Bakery location is usually my go to for bread for the past few years. It's located in the same plaza and TJ Maxx and Daiso. I usually get a mix of bread but today I only got a loaf of white bread. Though their bread is yummy, service is a hit or miss which today unfortunately is a miss. The cashier was pretty monotone and not so customer friendly. After I paid for the bread, he literally said next customer as he was giving me my change. He could have at least give me 2 seconds to put my money back into my wallet but he was impatient to charge the next customer in line. So as I was putting my money away, he was already doing the transaction for the customer that was behind me even though I'm still in front of the customer he was charging and my bread was still on the table. It wasn't like the line was long either because it was only one person behind me. Nice, clean, ever consistent with their food. I liked their meal sets, always good value and never disappoints. My family is from Taiwan, everyone from my parents to my nieces and nephews all love their bento sets. The cashier for the restaurant section whom is an old lady was very rude. She does not wear glasses, has red hair and wear it in a pony tail under a black cap. I came in today not knowing apparently they don't operate until 4:30, so I just stood at the cashier waiting to order. She was on her phone sitting down at the table second to last to the corner close to the kitchen at 3:30 pm. Look at the camera and you will see who I'm talking about. She looked up and said "we don't service until 4:30" very coldly. I responded in surprise obviously cause this is such a strange hour and said "eh?" And then she sarcastically mocked me and said "eh what, eh. We don't operate until 4:30 you heard me" then I said "is that so?" She then mocked me AGAIN and exaggerated my tone of voice to repeat what I said "is that so... yea duh." Extremely unprofessional and unacceptable, this old lady obviously gotten too comfortable at her seniority and think she owns the place and can treat people however she wants. She desperately needs a retraining as to how to provide BASIC DECENT service. I don't even need to be treated like a royalty, but talking to me like I'm your son or student is not how you even treat people normally if you're a half-way respectable person. I stopped by a breakfast carb run and picked up Taiwanese pastries. It's a typical Asian style bakery where you pick pastries out of a case. My favorites of what I sampled were the pineapple pastry, mung bean pastry, and the Portuguese egg tart. I don't think I have ever tasted anything like the mung bean pastry. The service was friendly at the register unlike what others might have experienced from interacting with the cashier. I loved the strawberry mochi. It looks simple, but it's a chewy layer of mochi wrapped around half a strawberry, which sits on top of cream and a light sponge cake. When I went there the bakery looked pretty clean. But when I bought a flaky pastry with matcha fillings, I found weird tiny blue dots in the matcha paste and it was too sweet. Also the taro cake felt dry and taro lumps was crunchy like it was slightly undercooked. The workers are nice and respectful but I think it was a bit overpriced. The coconut tart and the chiffon cake were pretty good but I did not like most the pastries that much. I might not come back. read more
