I can't believe I lived around the block from HiFi Burritos for this long without trying it. On one hand, I'm grateful because if I'd discovered it sooner, I'd probably be 50 pounds heavier. The food is absolutely incredible. Even though the menu is packed with fresh, healthy options, the portions are generous and everything is so good that self-control becomes a real challenge. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, a dedicated carnivore, a health nut, or just someone who loves great food, there's something here for you. The atmosphere is equally impressive. The space has a laid-back vibe with eclectic decor, friendly staff, and the kind of energy that makes you want to hang out for a while. They also serve beer and carry Maine Root sodas, which was a huge bonus. Great food, great people, great prices, and huge portions. Awesome burrito spot that's shockingly vegan-friendly. I'm not sure why it's usually so hard for Mexican places to (1) refrain from putting chicken stock etc. into their beans and rice and (2) to clearly label what is vegan and what isn't (e.g. refried beans). HiFi burrito does it all. All of their beans, rice, and toppings are vegan except the actual meat and cheese. (And they also had vegan cheese and vegan proteins like tofu sofritas). I was also thrilled that they had a brown rice rendition of Mexican rice. Revolutionary. The burritos were generously portioned and nostalgically delicious. I miss the old Dos Amigos. The quality control has continued to go downhill over the last 15 years. I'm starting to wonder if that's why they changed the name. We only ever get takeout from here because my mother is gluten and dairy free, and she insists on ordering here. Our order is ALWAYS missing something, particularly side sauces. Literally every time. It's gotten to the point that I make sure I'm the one picking it up so I can check before I leave that we have everything. Leaving 3 stars still because I know how hard it is for small businesses these days, but based on the lack of quality control, I can not in good conscience currently recommend them. read more

The burritos lacked flavor and were quite dry despite requesting sauce, cheese & queso. Somehow I felt like I was just getting large bites of refried beans with nothing else. Got a side of chips and queso and I'm really not sure how you could call what they gave me queso. For two burritos and a small chips and queso I paid $40. This seems a bit high even given our current economy. Very welcoming and comfortable. Great music. The food was heaven. I haven't been this pleased with a restaurant meal for a long time. I've had decent meals in Dover lately, but none recently that I can't stop thinking about. Absolutely delicious and satisfying. To my beef tacos, I added: jack cheese, salsa fresca, corn salsa, citrus slaw, romaine, & orange cumin vinaigrette. The slaw and vinaigrette add such a unique flavor that I haven't found anywhere else in the area. My husband had chicken tacos and added: black beans, jack cheese, salsa fresca, romaine, carrot habanero sauce, & potentially something else that I don't recall. He also got the corn tortillas which looked amazing. His taco was pretty wet, but it seems the tortillas held up well enough. He was also pleased with his meal. Messy, but great. I am so happy with my meal that I am absolutely planning to go back on for Thursday's burrito special. I don't know exactly what the special is, but I know it will be excellent. WOULD RECOMMEND? Yes. I have only had one burrito better. I got the smothered, (w/sweet potato)which is with most of the ingredients piled on top, not inside. Meant to be eaten with utensils. I got everything but guac piled on it. At the start, I considered asking for two burritos when I seen the size of it. I can eat quite a lot. But after the pile of ingredients stacked, it was okay. I want to start by saying we have only ordered via delivery. So it may be a different experience coming in to the restaurant. We've ordered here twice now. I prefer other places, but It's okay. We've had the nachos and various burritos. It was decently cold when it got to us which I know isn't the restaurant's fault. $17 for 3 tacos? Wow, very pricey. Folks are writing reviews saying they're from AZ, CA, etc. I'm from CA & lived in Mex, now living in NH. First, there's no way you'd spend $17 for 3 tacos anywhere but NH & ME because it's either these fancy "Mexican places" or Taco Bell. But $17 for 3 tacos that are take out -- no dining room service here, it's all take out -- is on the really high side. There's a place in Portland ME that sells tacos for $5 each but their tacos are really great and it's a sit down, table service place. OK, review of food. Cold, corn tortillas (don't they know authentic taquierias heat the tortillas up?), not a lot of meat, pico de gallo with more liquid than tomatoes, etc.... that's my biggest complaint. You expect to eat tacos with your hands. You don't want tacos that are so soaked in liquid the corn tortillas immediately fall apart. It's as bad as this other "Mex" restaurant that asked me if I wanted mash potatoes or french fries with my chile relleno. read more

The only thing they got right was every single upcharge. Awful value. Manager likes to scold her employees in front of customers. Rude and quick with customers too. We regularly get take out food from Dos Mexican Eats (at least every other week). The burritos, nachos and salads are all delicious and hit the spot! Perfect amount of spice too and their dressings, slaw and salsas impart a lot of flavor to their dishes. I also love the option of adding cotija cheese and the Vida tortillas. Honestly I love the current menu options more than the old menu (during the times of Dos Amigos). The service it's also very consistent. Keep up the great work! read more

Dos Mexican Eats is my favorite place to grab a healthy and hearty lunch or dinner. They have so many great options and are always coming up with exciting specials that are both creative and full of flavor. The special carrot ginger soup was so delicious and I hope it will make a comeback one of these days. I love their sweet potatoes! In a bowl, in a burrito, in tacos, or on top of nachos! The recent addition of the queso-dillo has also quickly become a favorite. Queso and jack cheese rolled up in a tortilla, what is not to love? You can even add other items into the mix if you are feeling wild. Additionally, each and every staff member has been nothing short of awesome. I love this place! Dos Mexican Eats is a little hidden gem in the mill building on Washington St. For a little, tiny place, it packs a big punch with a great menu and awesome flavors and combinations. There's the typical Taco Tuesday and Burrito Thursday, but also Queso the Mondays. And speaking of Queso.... literally like crack in a good way! We eat there at least once a week, sometimes more when we are really eating our feelings. The other great thing about Dos Mexican Eats is that they have vegan and vegetarian versions! Even vegan cheese! So people with all types of diets and needs can still enjoy the amazing food. Another favorite of mine is the carrot habanero sauce. It is so yummy and spicy! The only thing I think of that would make it better is it were in a larger space with lots of seating and lounging. BUT the point is that the food is fresh and delish.
