06/13/2026 OMG this is even better! Strawberry & Pineapple soft serve Margarita! A must!
    Gina C.

So my friend's & I had to come to this joint to try out their soft, serve Margarita & OMG!!! It was delicious!! So creamy & smooth....I had the pineapple one & my friend got the strawberry swirl with pineapple & that was even taster! It comes with a cute shovel to eat it with, a fresh flower & a cute umbrella. $15 but well worth the price & size. We had gone to another Mexican restaurant prior to try their's out & this one was way better, taster, bigger & cuter! 5 STARS for this "drink." I tried to order a pork pulled flour taco but they were out of pork so I went with a jalapeno shrimp taco on a flour tortilla, with cilantro like rice, lettuce, cilantro, onion, pineapple, mango salsa & a cilantro sauce on the side. This was tasty but for something so simple it took longer than I expected. 5 stars for the taste & size but the service was lacking badly...... We sat @ the bar and soon after we were greeted by a female bartender. My receipt says: PM B. It started off good as we ordered our drinks & she made them right away but after that service went way down hill.....I had to ask a male bartender for another drink, one friend accidentally spilled her drink as the glass was slippery & no one noticed, she had 1/2 of it left & the rest went all over her, me & the floor but no one seemed to notice...thank God for the nice roll of paper towels on the bar to clean it up with. She had to tag down a bartender for a glass of H2O. My other friend almost lost her drink too (no, we weren't intoxicated...lol) she said the glass was slippery & the bar was tilted as it almost slide off the bar. We had to ask for our check as we were ready to leave. No one ever came back to see how my taco was nor did any bartender come back to see if we wanted another drink or even ask if we needed anything else. It was busy but come on peeps....you still need to take care of your customer's if you want to be taken care of too!! 2 stars for the service. The place was busy & very nosey so if you're looking for a quiet place to dine this isn't it. And headed to the bathrooms.....OMG what a nightmare!! There was a private event going on, a graduation party in a function room next to the bathrooms but they were serving food in the hallway & all the party guests were just standing in the walkway to the bathrooms. They didn't give a crap when I was trying to walk by, they just stood in the way chatting with each other & then on my way out a group photo of like 7 older ladies who were blocking the hallway & once the picture was done they still stood in the way.....so rude & annoying. They may have had the function room but that didn't mean they needed to block the walkway/hallway to the bathrooms. And the ladies bathroom....OMG what a hot mess! Graphite all over the walls in the stalls & a toilet paper holder cover on the floor with TP on the floor...what a mess. I'd definitely come back for one of their soft serve Margaritas but if you're going to go don't expect much for service @ the bar or a decent bathroom to take care of business in.

This place rocks! Max was the best. The dude makes drink that flow! The make your own taco options are amazing. Try this place it absolutely slaps! Oh and they have soft serve margaritas see pics!

Being from Austin, I was excited about this place but the food was cold! It was like they had just pulled the ingredients out of the fridge. Their menu looks promising, but does not live up to a Texan's expectations. The waiter didn't even bring chips bring salsa. Their menu looks cantarito drink was pretty good.

I can't say enough great things about this spot! My friends and I were driving through Portsmouth and stopped off for lunch. The restaurant itself is super funky, with really cool interior, but we actually decided to eat outside. The patio area was great and the waitstaff made sure to check on us frequently. The highlight of this place is the menu. Great food and amazing drinks. I love how you can customize your tacos. Even better, the prices were quite reasonable. Everything tasted delicious. If I'm ever back in the area, I'd like to return!

I am not sure why all the reviews seem bad but this is my favorite taco place. You get to build your own tacos and there are soooo many options, and everything is amazing. My friend is vegetarian and she said it had the most options she has ever been able to choose from. She loved her tacos. We got queso and chips and it was fantastic. The service was also amazing. The vibe inside is super cool too. Every time I come to Portsmouth I will go here!

Barrio... what happened?! We recently revisited and it was so underwhelming and so disappointing. I was initially concerned about showing up for a late lunch - there were times in the past when the wait here could be an hour plus on a sunny weekend day. There was no one in line; and, actually, half the restaurant was empty. We ordered a round of drinks. My dad said his beer tasted funny; my partner and I each got a different cocktail that somehow were the exact same color. His tasted like bitters and whiskey, mine tasted like simple syrup and whiskey. We didn't finish them. The traditional guacamole and chips were okay; the guacamole wasn't super seasoned and it seemed more like a bland avocado spread (see the ice cream scoop of it). We were only allowed one basket of chips -- in the past, they'd refill it no problem/no upcharge. I made my own tacos: #1 a flour tortilla with thai chili tofu and cilantro lime rice, cilantro and onions for toppings, and secret sauce. The tofu was inedible; the texture was so tough, I couldn't chew it. Also, you'll see it was more onions than anything else. #2 a flour tortilla with crispy sweet potato and beer braised black beans, lettuce for a topping, and dirty sauce. No flavor in the sweet potatoes which were soggy and definitely not crispy, no flavor in the black beans which were also soggy, the lettuce was scant. ^ Both the dirty sauce and the secret sauce tasted nearly identical (the dirty sauce maybe slightly hotter, though definitely not sweet as noted). The staff was also kind of rude. When we didn't want a second round of drinks, the server actually whined, "You said you were thinking about it! And now I'm back over here and you don't want anything?! I only came back because you said you were thinking about it! C'mon!" Yikes. I'm not sure I'll be coming out of my way to visit ever again.

We had a short wait so went and walked around the cool art gallery that is attached to the restaurant. Margarita flights and tacos were excellent. Lots of choices (a bit overwhelming). I recommend the green goddess shells. House guacamole was excellent and the salsa was delicious.

Barrio is a must-stop when visiting Portsmouth! Portions are huge, food is fresh, and drinks are sneaky strong! 10/10 in my book!

Let me start off by saying...I am probably the only person in the world who isn't a fan of Mexican food. My other half always complains that we don't ever go out for Mexican so we decided to give this place a try. Holy guacamole was I pleasantly surprised. Best tacos I've ever had. I really enjoyed making different styles/combos. The mimosa with tequila was an absolute delight. We sat the bar top and our bartender Jayden was very personable and her service was great. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the loud music that was not my style, new rap/hip hop. We went around 11:30am so I felt that "vibe" was more for the late night crew not the lunch crew.

This place reminds me of an upscale chipotle... food was cool, service was friendly. Drinks were ok. The spiked pineapple shot will sneak up on you.

Showed up for lunch on Friday and got a table immediately but took 40 minutes to get food. Tacos were pretty good still. I was disappointed in the $3 "side of scrambled eggs" that was maybe one egg. I know they're expensive but this just seemed silly. (See photo)

You walk in and the vibe is fun, colorful, and eclectic. It reminded me of a classic Mexican restaurant with a tasteful, funky modern touch. My watermelon margarita was incredible and we got the salsa trio that had a good mix of spicy mango salsa, a mild but flavorful green salsa, and fresh pico de gallo style. The chips did taste homemade but if not still enjoyed the thicker corn style chip you don't usually find in restaurants! We each got 3 street tacos and all were great, even the sweet potato taco! The chicken was chopped a bit thick for street taco style but it was still great flavor, and rice was a bit salty but not unbearable. We (parents and a toddler) arrived hungry after driving two hours and had a hard time getting his attention at times. We arrived before 6pm on a Friday but still there was a wait. Once we were seated, the server was pretty prompt and really friendly, though generally service was somewhat slow with a wait for food. We were waiting almost an hour for entrees and about to change our order to to-go because of stress with our exhausted toddler, but of course that's when the food arrived. We had to shovel it in and leave. The food was the most disappointing part. The chips are clearly not homemade. The salsa didn't have much flavor, and the guacamole was a huge letdown. It had a dull green color and very "slop" style texture (think sour cream texture, not chunky like real guac) that all pointed to store bought / not fresh. I had the chicken enchiladas, and the sides of rice (so salty) and beans (very soupy) brought down an already undesirable dish. The enchiladas were cooked nicely but far too cheesy. The green sauce was nearly tasteless, the red sauce is what made it all edible. Wouldn't ever really come back here. I wish I could say something more positive!

The first time was great. However, the second time we got takeout they forgot the verde sauce on my Husband's burrito, put my husband's queso order in a metal togo container like the one my burrito bowl came in. It was very soup and was a leaking mess by the time we got home. Not sure why it wasn't in a cup with a lid like the guac, and like it has been other times. Also, this second time I found myself chewing on a a large piece of chicken from my veggie burrito bowl - for someone who hasn't eaten animals in over two decades and had no intention of starting to do so, it was pretty awful. It was not yet crowded either time we ordered and was a weekday (around 5PM-ish). Given the first time we ordered was fine, we're thinking/hoping the missing verde sauce, soupy mis-packaged queso and chicken piece debacles were a reflection of an off evening in the kitchen. Our soft serve margaritas were super cute & colorful but also really, really small & for $13 not worth the $$$$. Those took forever to come out. She brought 2 out @ first & we had to wait for the machine to make more to get the other 2. It didn't taste like a margarita but tasted like an italian ice, a very sour one. We spent way more time in this place than we wanted to due to the very slow service. This was our first visit, and we tried the chicken sandwich, potstickers, and cauliflower. Everything had really good flavor and a nice level of spice, and the portions felt fair for the price. I also liked that they cut the sandwich in half, but the tape around it felt a little excessive and made it harder than it needed to be to actually eat. That said, the flavors were very good, the pricing felt reasonable, and I enjoyed both the food and the beer. From a value standpoint, I thought they did a lot right. The main thing that kept the experience from being better was the service on the patio. The staff was not unfriendly at all, but it was difficult at times to get someone's attention, and simple requests seemed to take longer than they should have. That's something I'm noticing more and more in restaurants lately. If guests are being asked to tip at full-service levels, there still needs to be consistent follow-through and attentiveness throughout the meal, especially on a patio where it can already be harder to get someone's attention. Overall, though, I would recommend the place. The food was flavorful, interesting, and reasonably priced, and I'd definitely be willing to come back and try more of the menu.
