Great ice cream for a small mountain town! I was genuinely impressed by the flavor quality of Higgles - I've been to several mountain towns, and the local ice cream always tends to be subpar/average with generic flavors. However, Higgles was definitely a step above, and I wish I could have regular access. I prefer Higgles' Honey Lavender to Salt n Straw's Honey Lavender! Their Pistachio flavor was also very good, as it tasted closer to real pistachio than artificial pistachio, which tends to resemble more of an almond flavor. I loved that there were tons of flavors to choose from, and I wished I could've sampled more, but they do have a 2 flavor sample limit per person. Very limited seating/standing room inside - most people just took it outside to eat. If I'm ever back in Breck or passing by, I will definitely stop by! read more

I ended up getting four flavors - strawberry Oreo, blueberry cheesecake, chocolate stout and honey lavender. I was impressed by all flavors except the chocolate - it was uneventful and a little icy. The honey lavender and blueberry cheesecake were absolutely divine (I am a lavender fiend). The flight was definitely a great deal too - I think I paid around $9 for for flavors, and my father in law paid around $6 for a single scoop. We called a different ice cream shop and they didn't have any dairy free flavors. Higgles said they had a few dairy free options so we decided to give it a try! Our son who has the dairy allergy got the vegan chocolate chocolate chip ice cream! I didn't try it but it looked good and creamier than other vegan ice creams (sometimes vegan ice cream can be a little icy and stiff). My husband and I do not have a dairy allergy...we decided to split a brownie sundae when we saw the sheet pan of brownies sitting on the counter in the back. The brownie was delicious - chewy on the inside and a crisp on the outside. The brownie came topped with an ice cream of your choice (we chose vanilla), chocolate sauce and whipped cream. I would absolutely recommend the brownie sundae if you can find a friend to split it with (...or not...because who is judging?)! There is not a lot of seating in Higgles but there are plenty of benches around outside to enjoy your ice cream! We visited on a Saturday night with a long line out the door in late June. The staff was turning people over pretty quickly. Great ice cream spot, Higgles always gets one or two visits when we're in Breck. I couldn't decide between the Pumpkin Oreo and the Fluffer Nutter, so I got a scoop of each. I thought the Pumpkin Oreo was better. Definitely more rich, or at least it overpowered the other. She made my party of 9 feel like an imposition. 4 kids were asking for samples and she's rolling her eyes to her colleagues even though we respected the 2 sample limit. My boyfriend and I walked around the area, walking off what we just had for dinner, and I turned to him and told him I was craving ice cream (even though the weather was 40 degrees). This little shop was the very first ice cream that we came by and decided to check it out. It's located directly on the second floor where the stairs are in the Towne Square Mall. Difficult to miss. Parking is kind of difficult as there's only paid street parking and parking lots. I believe there's a lot that is free of charge after 6pm. Not too certain, though. This shop had a variety of interesting, unique flavors to choose from! There was 22 flavors when we went. That's a crazy amount! Luckily they had the option for a flight of 4 ice cream flavors. Definitely chose that option so that we could sample at least four of their flavors hehe. We chose their O!rio! (Oreo, haha), lemon buttermilk, winter coffee (coffee with cinnamon), and nutcracker (walnuts). Probably don't need to review the Oreo as this is the one flavor that can't be messed up (and thankfully, it wasn't). This was actually both of our favorite one as basic as it sounds LOL. The lemon buttermilk was tarty with a semi-sorbet taste. It was one of those flavors where there's an aftertaste. It wasn't too bad, unique. It was my boyfriend's least favorite since he isn't a big fan of tarty things. The winter coffee was relatively good. It had a coffee flavor first and then a kick of cinnamon flavor. The cinnamon definitely threw me off and didn't really mesh with my taste buds well. The nutcracker was my least favorite. Because of the walnuts, I didn't care for it at all. LOL. I avoided the nuts and eventually gave the rest to my boyfriend. Very unique flavors with a lot of variety to choose from. Definitely a place to check out for cheap ice cream after lunch or dinner! read more
