It tasted like the bartender added some citrus to the drink which impacted the smoothness. Then we ordered the Classic Cheese Pizza and we added grilled chicken. They deliver the pizza in a pizza box which is very convenient. I forgot to snap a couple pictures of the pizza. We ate all of it. We asked for light sauce and it was made perfectly. What a cool place in SLO. I love rooftop bars. Came by because so many acquaintances and friends had favorable things to say. Place is located on the top floor of the Hotel San Luis Obispo. Elevator was working. Upon exiting the elevator, we were quickly greeted warmly. We took a seat at a table overlooking the hotel's "small' pool. Seating is all outside but there is covered seating. This place is not a place you come to if windy or raining. Staff was very friendly and checked on us often. They were friendly and we definitely felt welcome. We ordered some drinks. Beer pricing was fair at $8 for draft craft beer. Interestingly, they have a setup for bocce ball. We didn't try any food. The only con was that the view was mostly the rooftops of nearby buildings. I've been to High Bar multiple times and it's honestly given me mix reviews. Don't get me wrong the food is DELICIOUS but for me, it's the service that differs everytime. But before I get to all of that, let's talk about the food! I've tried almost all the pizzas (especially during Mondays as they are half off) and my favorites are the Salmon & Caviar and Mushroom pizza. You honestly can't go wrong with the Mushroom with goat cheese one but if you're feeling a treat, do get the salmon and caviar!! It is so so good, got to try it and definitely will try it again! The service now has disappointment me every now and then. Sometimes they take long to get to your table, sometimes the wait is so long and wait time is inaccurate, etc. but there are times when service is really good. So I don't know! No one had to twist my arm to check out this high bar with sweeping views of the coastal mountains and golden rolling hills. My daughter and I came here for dinner/drinks after shopping at the Farmers Market. It is located on the very top floor of the Hotel San Luis Obispo. It is a gorgeous wide open space with epic views, a bocce ball court, bar seating, high tops and table seating. We got there just in time to capture the last light of the sunset. We enjoyed a delicious Hot Honey pizza with a French 75 drink and a glass of white wine. Everything was so tasty and the ambiance from this location was very relaxing. Service was attentive and friendly. Good music played which added to the laid back vibe and we really didn't want to leave. Finally got a chance to try out this place. We arrived and sat up at the rooftop after asking the front desk where we needed to go. No one was up on the roof. 10-15 min after 2:00, someone shows up. I overhear the guy telling the couple who was also waiting that they were closed for a private party. They didn't mention this on social media, website, Yelp, or nor did they have a sign. The staff wasn't even aware of the event. We already paid for 4-hour parking on the street. Mondays are usually half-off pizzas, and they plan an event. I asked if they would honor it at the restaurant, and they said no. Bad customer service and horrible scheduling. Don't schedule a private event on a Monday when you do your most business or at the least, announce it. Waste of time and money! read more

Stopped by High Bar on a Monday for their half-off pizza deal and was really impressed. I've been to Piadina several times and thought I'd tried it all, but finally gave the Maui Wowie a shot (pineapple, pepperoni, and jalapeños), which usually isn't my favorite combo. The flavors actually worked so well together! We also ordered the fries, which are always great, but the pizza was definitely the best value. Our server was fine. The bartenders however need further training in both hospitality and making drinks. They cut off one of our party members after a single drink with no explanation and proceeded to water down everyone else's drinks (again after a single round and charged at full price) thereafter. I can understand their perspective if a party is being loud, obnoxious, or otherwise disruptive but our party maintained a respectable volume, kept to themselves, and showed no signs of belligerence as to warrant the abysmally rude treatment by the bartenders. Again they had the audacity to provide poor service, poorer quality drinks and still charge a 20% gratuity on top of the bill, including some of the drinks that were sent back. I've recently been informed of other friends that have experienced similarly bad visits and it does little to dissuade me that it is an apparent pattern of poor service. Again I understand the need to maintain order and provide a pleasant experience for all patrons. This was not one such situation and the bartenders should seriously reevaluate how they chose to serve and interact with their guests. Will not come again and will advise others who come to the area likewise. After all, there's much better places for food and drink less than a 5 minute walk away. Bartenders were extremely disrespectful and rude, one person in our group got cut off (after one drink) when the rest of us ordered drinks after they had no alcohol whatsoever, the bartenders were super defensive and proceeded to charge us for full cocktail prices for basically juice and sugar water, plus gratuity. I've heard this happen to other groups as well. Seems like they don't want large parties or to make money, will never return to this establishment!! The 2 little girl bartenders and the douche with the beard and curly hair make awful drinks and should find a new profession. We came on Monday to check out the half off pizza deal. The service here can be improved, our party felt like it was a bother every time we asked for something and we weren't being needy and were polite. I feel like usually restaurants pay attention to larger groups, especially when gratuity is already included. It was interesting that we weren't started off with waters when every table around us had waters. They seated our party of 8 on the couch, we barely fit there sitting with our drinks so eating there was not ideal. We asked to be moved, but still the table was small for us. We had to keep pizza boxes on our lap or the floor, it was bulky and uncomfortable. Everything came out at an appropriate time, we didn't have to wait too long. The pizza was good and can be shareable between two people for a lighter meal. The drinks come out super cold, very refreshing and my ideal ice amount. Highly recommend dining on a Monday for their 1/2 off pizza deal! We ordered the mushroom pizza and it was absolutely delicious. The pizza came straight out of the oven and had the perfect ratio of toppings, sauce, and crust. The pepperoni was also solid, but we thought the mushroom was by far the best out of the ones we tried. It's impossible not to eat the truffle fries which are so flavorful and seasoned perfectly. We loved how crispy and salty these fries are, and the portion is definitely shareable for the whole table. I also ordered a margarita which was good. Sometimes their cocktails can run on the sweeter side, but overall they are yummy. Sometimes there is a wait for a table, but I've never experienced anything over 10 minutes. Service is nothing spectacular but the staff is friendly and the food comes out quick. Came here over the weekend with my friend's bachelorette party, and it was a perfect way for us to get our mid-day eat and drink on! For the food, we enjoyed most of the bites. My favorite was easily the ahi tuna sliders, those were hella good, I'd eat an entire order of these to myself. For $14, the house chips were interesting because the chips were massive and with the toppings you kinda make a mini tostada. I think the price point would keep me from ordering this again, kind of a waste of calories, when there's better things on the menu IMO. The oysters were tasty and fresh. Thai chicken meatballs were a hit with the group as well. For drinks, I went with the 'Blood Moon', which is mezcal based, and that was so good I had to order two. I can't speak on the other drinks, but the group was loving the bubble bee spritz, with one slight modification. Swapping blood orange instead of the grapefruit, very good. We got really lucky because the rain stopped while we were there, and it wasn't packed at all. Shout out to all the servers and bartenders who put up with our loud group of 12 and made sure we had an awesome time. The timing of the food came out was a bit spotty, but not a huge deal since we weren't in a rush. The space itself is absolutely beautiful. There's plenty of tables for small/big groups, and lounge style seating areas. If you are planning on eating, definitely opt for a table. Such a poorly ran service. I have waited over an hour and half to then not get seated when we were told it was a 30 minute wait. We were then told by the server oh well make a reservation online next time... after checking on the reservation apps we were told about, I called back and was informed that there are no reservations. The food is good, the drinks are just ok, but the service was very inconsiderate and misinformed. A place with lots of potential that is being wasted by poor managing and help staff. With a rooftop view and heaters I would say the 20ish minute wait was worth it. Non hotel great have to wait inline in order to get seated, although the line moves pretty quickly. My group of two came here for drinks. Both of us preferring fruity sweet drinks. I ordered the SLO Rated and was super happy with my drink, couldn't taste a trace of alcohol. Whereas my friend who ordered the Fruity Valdez was greeted with strong cucumber flavors. Although refreshing, if you want a sweet fruity cocktail I would go with the SLO Rated. Each drink was $14 dollars which is quite steep but the ambiance and roof top feel contributes to the experience. Would love to come back and try some of the food options! read more

With a great view and half off Oster tuesdays my coworker adopted this place as a hangout for post work food/ drink. They have their favorite server Hakeem who recognized them right away and was extremely attentive. We sat aglt these comfy couches that you just sink into when ordering or there are options to sit at a regular table or a high top. Went here for my man's birthday and my, what a disappointment. The elevator wasn't working so we had to go up the 3 flight of stairs which is typically fine (except that my man had surgery about a month ago and is it a boot, so the elevator definitely would have helped). The first issue right off the bat is how hard this place is to find. I circled the building and tried following two of the signs, which were grouped with a bunch of other names of places. It's actually above Piadina, and there don't seem to be any actual signs on any of the doors. Everything looks like an exit or back service door. You have to go in and take the elevator or "central" stairs (which are on the side of the building, inside). The second issue is the atmosphere. Piadina and this newer complex is catering to a way too uptight wealthy crowd. Downtown SLO seems to be being overrun by this lately. I don't know if it's because all the SF/valley money "discovered" SLO or what, but it's stuffy and uninviting as a local. This carries up to High Bar. Seemed like people go here to be seen and look like something they're not, if you know what I mean. Third issue is the seating and service. This place has a great view. One of the only spots on the whole central coast that actually takes advantage of the views (why that is, I have no idea). I showed up and wasn't greeted. It's kind of an open floor plan. I went up to the small bar and asked if they had a menu, but I was directed to find seating and use the QR code. Fine, okay. Said thanks and found a table. Menu looked fine, but there was no way to actually order like a lot of places do now. A server came by the table next to me twice, but I was ignored both times. Sat for about 15 minutes and gave up. It didn't seem particularly busy either. Pretty off putting. I might try again, but this wasn't a comfortable or inviting place to be. read more

I visited with a group of four and had a great time at High Bar! We walked into the lobby of Hotel SLO, took the elevator to the rooftop, and sat down right away. On the Friday night of Cal Poly's graduation weekend, it was pretty packed at the bar. There was a ton of seating and a bocci ball court as well as nice views of downtown SLO. Our waiter was extremely kind and our drinks came out quickly. I tried the Side Piece and Prickly Pear Margarita. Both were sweet and fruity cocktails, and I enjoyed them a lot. Both drinks were balanced and refreshing. Their drink prices were on par with most cocktail bars at $14 per drink. Then there was the snarky comments from staff to guests who asked for a menu. I for one HATE online menus and enjoy a paper menu but the staffs mind set is a real turn off. Upon asking someone at the desk, she checked our IDs then has to escort us to the elevator where she then had to swipe her fob in the elevator for us to go up. Ridiculous? Our waitress was nice but lacked basic waitressing skills. We eventually ordered 2 cocktails which were actually pretty well made...so that's a star. Our waitress rarely came to check up on us and when she did, never asked if we wanted to order food which we were waiting to do. I had to stop her and ask if we can order. We had the Kobe beef sliders and 2 pizzas. Sliders: Excellent (taste). We're they worth $15 in my opinion? Nope. They are served with shredded lettuce, a pickle, thousand island, on 3 Hawaiian rolls, with a bag of chips. Literally a bag of chips just plopped on the plate. Weird? Yes. Pizza: A disgrace to say the least. They were brought to us in pizza boxes that barely fit on the table. Our sliders were brought on a plate but our pizzas in a box. We really started regretting coming here at this point. The pizza itself looks raw. The dough was barely cooked enough to support the mediocre amount of toppings. At first glance the crust just looks like uncooked frozen pizza dough. Thankfully there were signs of some oven use on the bottom but not much. The pizza slices just sagged. I decided to eat it with a fork and a knife but then again the dough was undercooked and rubbery which made it hard to cut. Overall not impressed. Probably won't be back. read more

I had high expectations for this place after IG'ing back and forth with them. Getting here: Since we were staying at Hotel SLO, my partner just kept hitting the "R" on the elevator. We mentioned during check in we were going to head up there and we didn't receive any special instructions. The vibe: Definitely an older crowd. In our mid-30's, we were the youngest people by at least two decades. Not a big deal, but any thoughts I had of coming here with my friends for after work drinks were eliminated. It may have just been the weekend, but it seemed like a bunch of Poly parents or older business travelers. Again, no biggie, but the IG gave me a different impression of what to expect. The food: Hands down the biggest disappointment. On IG, the staff were super willing and happy to work with my GF restrictions. I was dragging my partner here! When I asked my server what options there were gluten free friendly, she asked to see my phone menu. Ehh...okay. Forgivable, but I expect at a place like this, the staff is familiar with the menu. (Note: this is the same thing that happened at Piadina...new business problem?) So, we ordered the sliders. Not only were they not lettuce wrapped (the workaround 99.9% of places use for the bun), the "rustic potato chips" were literally served in a bag on the plate. It would have taken 5 seconds for them to open the bag to dump out the chips and it would have looked SO much better. In fact, we noted they could have fooled us with the chips if they were already on the plate. "Wow, these chips are so good! How did they make them?" The drinks: Rum Runner was great (though only filled up half a martini glass), but the SLO Rated and High Bar Lemonade were wayyyyy too sugary. My partner who loves sweet drinks felt they were too sweet, and that says a lot. Overall: Great view, mature crowd, mostly disinterested service, and not very GF friendly. I'm on an event planning committee at work and won't recommend this for our get togethers. It's just not very lively. read more
