Park 1039 is an alcohol and cheese lovers dream! We were looking for a spot to make some custom cheese plates & charcuterie boards on our way up to Paseo and this spot came highly recommended by a friend. The interior of this little shop is clean, modern, yet welcoming and intimate. The display cases are all really clear and easy to navigate, cheese at the main case and behind that different beers and wines. The service here was beyond stellar! Everyone that works here was so incredibly nice and the expertise they had on their meats and cheeses was outstanding. It's a great combination to find a place that really knows their stuff but also that the staff are all so friendly and non pretentious. This spot really just has the best customer service. It looks like you can dine here but we strictly shopped. I'd be happy to come back though and have a little happy hour with some snacks. We walked about spending a pretty penny on meats, cheeses, and beers BUT it was 100% well worth it. Our charcuterie boards were packaged beautifully and they took time to education us on everything we would later be eating. Also as I had mentioned they have such an unique variety of craft beers that I was pleasantly surprised with how many of the random we grabbed were 10/10 amazing. What a lovely dining experience! We stopped by SLO for lunch to break up our drive, had no plan for where we were going to eat but had some ideas. Happened to walk by Park 1039 so we looked at the menu and everything caught my. Continued to walk around but was drawn back by how nice their Parklet looked and the unique menu. The food was wonderful. We had the winter squash soup, which was deconstructed and poured in front of you. It included dried blueberries, herb oil, and a Pepita cream in the bowl with a soup made of 3 different kinds of squash. I ordered the farm salad which had a very unique blend of veggies and burrata. A combination of items I would never think to include in a salad, but of so delicious and delightful! The basque cheesecake was also delicious. They only make one a day so be sure you order it before it runs out. Service was a 10/10 both of our servers were absolutely delightful! They were kind, knowledgeable of the menu, and when one didn't know the answer to a question she told us she didn't know and went to ask instead of making something up. The owner was also very friendly and involved. He came by to open our umbrella to help trap in the heat - it was a very cold day, and checked in with other guests to ensure everyone was okay. What a beautiful little spot! Their parklet is the cutest and most comfortable one I've seen, great shading and greenery. You don't feel super close to the other table, which is nice. Very nice service, Olivia and Sarah were on it. I appreciate how well shaded they have it. Arrived right at opening (11am) on Saturday to ensure a seat because they do not take reservations unless it's a holiday/special occasion. Sat immediately. Decided to get the custom cheeseboard as their cheesemonger was on duty, Sarah came out and asked a bit about our preferences and I said do your magic! And she did! As someone who has had many charcuteries, including multiple ones I've made for special occasions myself, this was such a delight to have a cheese expert make it for me! In these times of trouble, what better thing to do than to partake of historically epicurean eats, and enjoy nature? Park 1039 blends both classic European traditions with our novel California traditions, as we all seek solace from a chaos that reminds one of past historic times of turmoil. Napoleon not only helped bring us canned/preserved food, an early submarine, but also a rather unique saber rattling way to open Champagne...which is on display at the "Park". Serendipity favors the bold, the hungry, the thirsty, the wise, and those that go to The "Park", or hike in Parks. The bold are open to novel gastronomic delights like acorn fortified Iberico Jamon from Spain. The hungry pair Jamon with fine locally made French Style Whole Grain Bread, maybe slathered with some aromatic truffle butter, along with a fine Manchego Cheese. The hungry then top off the meal with some housemade Basque style Cheesecake, fortified with rich Crème fraiche. The thirsty slowly imbibe some fine local Kumquat Apple Cider, lovingly fermented by "Two Broads Cider", as one savors the bouquet of aromas, in a fine tulip shaped chilled glass. The pour is done a few inches above the glass to release the bouquet. The wise respects "Chīfàn qī fēn bo, sān fēn jī", moderation, & picnics. For some odd reason, after a gourmet European/California style light meal of delights, it provides great fuel for a long march, or in my case a modest hike up a local Morro or steep hill, that happened to fall on a "Worm Super Moon" Friday. As far as the "Park" is concerned, various gourmands, as well as, the self-proclaimed "Prince of SLO-dippo" [AKA me], can find friendly sanctuary in this quaint Oasis of taste. Everyone that I meet here was conversant in "Epicurean Speak" and mutual appreciation and respect for the finer things in life was amply evident. The knowledge of the finer things was beyond superficial and was a joy to share. Jenna, the wine director & manager, was an absolute delight to trade gourmet tales with, as were the others here. Thanks in part to our troubles, the city of SLO-dippo allowed "Park" to build a classy street Parklet, filled with tasteful & functional décor, Olive Trees & heaters. Between, stellar service, food, & friendliness, one could wax nostalgic for analogous outdoor cafés in far away towns, like I had in Slovakia, Spain, or even Indonesia. As we enjoyed the Park outside of the Park, it was all so easy to forget that one was not only in SLO-dippo, but in the prosaic world of worry. We also had the pleasure of meeting another epicurean couple & talked "shop". This streamlined shop is full of high grade goodies. Some of course on the pricier end, but most on par with the SLO-dippo area. They beat Whole Paycheck Market's service by light years. Beyond the Caviar, the Champagne, and the Champagne Saber, there were relatively affordable options for an impromptu picnic. A brief tour of the offerings of the store revealed an enthusiastic embrace & respect for the finer things in life, both local & foreign. It ranged from house-made Pickled Buddha's Hand citrus from Amber of L&C Smith Farms, to rare items [e.g. Iberico Jamon]. I was especially delighted to see that they had a wonderful curated assortment of locally crafted ciders. They ranged from a saccharine "Ice Wine" like beverage to drier versions masterfully fermented with various apples plus fruits & spices. Diehard Oenophiles will also be pleased. While I barely touched upon the plethora here, it seemed that each bottle elicited a cogent discourse on not only the taste, but background knowledge on the local makers of ambrosia. As of now, Jenna & Park are both gradually ramping up services. While I am unlikely to Sabrage ("saber") a bottle of Champagne while riding on a horse, it is certain that I will find the slightest reason to stop in here to partake. In these troubling unsure times of near chaos, this rational, very civilized almost Renaissance-like Oasis of fine taste, is a siren call for gastronomes who long for solace & succor. Needless to say, this bon vivant, hearty recommends this "Oasis", & you needn't waste time finding it via Serendipity. ~~~~ Notes: Basque Cheesecake : ..."deeply caramelized cousin of American cheesecake, inspired by the famous "tarta de queso" in Spain" Iberico Jamon "...Acorn-fed jamon Iberico is intensely sweet. I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Park 1039 on a sunny afternoon. We spent the day hiking and wanted some small bites with a glass of wine before dinner. We never expected Park 1039 to be such a treat! We decided to sit outside on the patio because of the nice weather. Their designer did a spectacular job of making the seating comfortable and creating a cozy atmosphere despite being on busy street in downtown. The ambiance of the patio was phenomenal. We were hosted by Megan. She was a real gem! She has vast wine knowledge and was able to answer all of our questions. She is training to be a winemaker herself, so she knows what she is talking about. Her hospitality skills really enhanced the experience. The wine by the bottle list is longer than any list I have seen in downtown SLO. They really have everything. My friend was practically giddy with the numerous wine options from different countries. They have the traditional wines, the peculiar wines, and everything in between. We landed a French white that was perfect with the weather! We also ordered the cheeseboard as a little snack. The cheese was excellent! They only used sheep or goat milk cheese which is always appreciated. It was a really good pairing with the wine! The only comment I will say, is that it is not a lot of cheese or bites for being $25. Between the two of us, it was barely enough. With that pricing, we thought the cheese board would be a little more stacked. We also ordered the olives and they did not disappoint! Unlike the cheese board, they gave us more than enough olives! How do I even begin. Park 1039 is truly a treat here in SLO. Take a break from your usual SLO haunts and come here to be wowed. We will be coming back often to try their rotating locally sourced menu!! The wine offerings? Off the charts. We arrived for a late dinner and were seated promptly. The tables are close enough to hear your neighbor, but we made a couple friends! We ordered bread for the table, home marinated olives (my absolute favorite) the hamachi and the pork tenderloin. Each were a delight. Seriously, RUN here. Our server Olivia made our experience engaging and wonderful. She was so knowledgeable. You can tell she takes pride in the magic happening at Park. That's something special! I will say the only downside was that the hamachi was served in a bowl which made it a tad difficult to see the full beauty at night and take well balanced bites with the crema + microgreens. Park 1039 is a great addition to downtown SLO! I'd stopped by several times to check out their merchandise selection of wines, cheeses, etc. but finally got to dine in with them this past weekend. My boyfriend and I stopped by around 6:00 pm to grab a glass of wine before meeting others for dinner somewhere else. They had a great selection of wines by the glass and our server let us try a few before deciding what we wanted. We weren't planning on getting food but were intrigued by their menu. Our sever let us know that all ingredients are sourced from the SLO Farmers Market every Thursday and as such, the menu changes weekly. I love the idea of a "farmers market" to table menu. We tried the caviar fries which were essentially 3 fried potato sticks and a runny egg, topped with caviar. It was a delicious snack and only $12!! Their outdoor seating area is one of the best in downtown SLO. They created a great ambiance with comfortable seating, olive trees, and when we went there was even live music. As it's located on a side street, it's also not as busy as Marsh/Higuera so it was a little quieter. It looked busy when we came here Saturday around 6pm to buy cheeses. A lot of people dining indoor and outdoor. There were a lot of unique cheeses to choose from inside the wine bar. The cheese lady helped us choose some cheeses to try. I also got a garlic black pepper salami and spiced Italian olives. The olives were very salty. The charcuterie is wonderful, the sandwiches- both the BLTA (wow!) & the salmon - were an explosion of flavor; and the Basque cheesecake is not to be missed. It doesn't hurt that the ingredients are sourced from local suppliers, including the salmon, off the boat on the docks of Avila Bay. This place was beyond amazing! The drinks, the sandwiches we ate and the customer service was 10/10. But the reason I am writing this review, is all because of Sarah the best cheese monger. She knows her cheeses, radiates confidence about the cheeses she selected for us, and was creative with each cheese selection. When she wanted to hear more about what cheese we like and are willing to try out, all of us said in the group that blue cheese was a no go. I have celiac and they were very kind informing me about the menu, and bringing GF crackers. The ambiance is charming, the service is unmatched! We felt welcomed because Jenna and her staff are kind and truly care. The food was more than extraordinary, We enjoyed every single bite! It was a set holiday menu and every dish was exquisitely prepared. The chicken liver mousse was paired perfectly with a strawberry rhubarb jam. The bearnaise sauce on the wild caught salmon was just to die for. The basque style cheesecake took me to the Basque Country. The great people of san luis obispo got this one right. Such a wonderful little spot for a nice lunch on a beautiful summer day. They have a small menu but what they do offer is quite nice. Just some nice veggie bowls some salads and a nice BLT with avocado. They have nice light dishes that don't break the bank. They also have some wonderful cheese and wine selections for that evening where you feel like something a little more eventful. On top of all that the servers are so warm and friendly it's like talking to your best friend. Stumbled upon this great cheese/wine shop and had lunch in their park-let. Lunch was seasonal and all delicious. Our favorite was the corn tartine! The crudo abs salad were also delicious. And then we went back the next day and spent time speaking with the cheese monger and Som to put together some selections. They were helpful narrowing and picking our options. Just had the most amazing dinner tonight at Park 1039. We spotted it the night before and we're intrigued by the variety of wines and cheeses in the shop and the romantic outside seating. The menu looked small but very attractive and Basque Cheesecake definitely caught our eye. The staff was very friendly and the vibe was upscale but friendly and welcoming. So the next day we decided to give it a try and I'm so glad we did. This is not just a wine bar. You must have a full meal here. The sommelier recommended a beautiful Italian wine called Valori Pecorino Abruzzi based on my preference and the food we were ordering and it was absolutely delicious. Then we had Hamachi crudo, farm salad, bratwurst, arctic char, and pork tenderloin. All I'm gonna say that as we bit into our food, we couldn't believe how amazing the flavors were and had to share with each other saying- you gotta try this, it's the best... I've ever had. We asked if we could meet the chef and he came out to talk to us for a good 20 minutes. He shared with us how he got started and gave some advice to our son who aspires to be a chef someday. A totally down to earth kinda guy. We ended up having some tea- green tea was the bomb, the cheesecake- absolute perfection, and 2 kids of sorbet. Every bite and taste was better than the one before.
