In addition, the product instructions said that it is not to be used on a garage floor. After the first rainy season and winter, the paint began to bubble and peel. He kept promising to come out and redo it, but then, after a few bad seasons, he decided it would cost too much for his crew to come out and fix it. Fast forward (actually slow forward) to 2020 and it was peeling so badly that I had to have it completely redone at a cost of $3,100. He has done some other work for me, but his follow-up is terrible. I originally paid him $1,600 and he offered me $80 back in lieu of a redo.

Sam is truly a Class Act…read more Having been through our fair share of harrowing and disappointing experiences with handymen and contractors in the past, we were extremely wary as we got started with our kitchen remodel planning process. As a matter of due diligence, we invited 10 contractors to propose a quote. For one, Sam's estimate was very competitive and reasonable (compared to other quotes). More importantly, he quickly grasped what our overall objectives were for the space, and proactively made some great suggestions that gave us the confidence that he was in sync with our requirements. As with most customers that go through a major remodel, my wife and I went back and forth on our choices for the cabinets and countertop, and not once did Sam flinch or pushback. On the contrary, there were certain additional items that were not part of our initial discussions (and estimate) that Sam voluntarily brought up and offered to do for us (at no additional cost) despite knowing that it would mean additional labor to him. Aware that we had wanted the remodel to be completed before Christmas as were hosting a party at home, Sam spent most of Christmas eve literally rolling up his sleeves and working non-stop for over 8 hours (without even meal breaks) and left only after he personally cleaned up the space. It is not always easy for small business owners to consistently put 'customer service' ahead of profits, but that is exactly what I observed of Sam, time and again. He did not accept the final payment until he was certain that we were 100% happy with the final outcome. I do not believe I have ever written such a long review for anyone, and that is hopefully a testimony to Sam's work. Back in May/June 2025, I hired Handy Gentlemen for interior work on my house. It is now…read moremid-September. David, the owner, seems like a nice guy, and he did a good job replacing the tiles on my bathroom floor, and he (mostly his assistant) did a lot of painting, which on the whole looks good. But see below... The big issues were what I discovered after he was finished and had left: fresh paint stains in multiple areas, including the wood floor of my 19th century house and even furniture - which I cleaned up. Splattered paint near the ceiling of my kitchen which still, three months later, has not been patched, paint stains on my oriental rug, a major purchase 40 years ago, etc. David said he would pay for the rug damage, and I only asked for 50% of the very reasonable $175 cleaning cost. David told me to bill him via Zelle, something I said I'm not sure how to do. He already has my Zelle information, since that's how I paid him for the work. But after messaging him and emailing several times, he has not responded. And I still have paint streaks on the wall and an unpaid bill. So I can't recommend Handy Gentlemen. I think part of the problem is that David is under-manned and a bit overwhelmed, but not responding to my messages is unprofessional.

David took the time and care to prepare my subfloors with new plywood and secure it to reduce a lot of those squeaks. The next day, when dry enough for me to inspect it, I saw that they had simply skipped over several parts of the floor in corners where they did not sanding and no staining. Worse, because they weren't careful and used the electric sander for even the tight spots, they carved into my wood trim in multiple places. Three times Joe promised he would come fix the issues and three times he was a no show. And all three times when he didn't show up, he ignored multiple calls and texts from me. I definitely regret using these guys. By, the way, I'm not sure they use the name A-Genesis Hardwood-Remodeling hardware any more. I found this page by googling the phone number. A-Genesis is not an active company according to the State of Illinois but Joe is definitely still active.
