I had made all the measurements but was afraid it wouldn't be exactly precise. It seems no one wants to install Ikea, go figure... ha. Anyway, I had started out with a different company (a friend of a friend) and that job ended with the demo because they had literally walked in and doubled the price they had quoted me, not to mention they said they'd worked on Ikea projects but it was obvious they hadn't. So I called Artisan and was able to set up a date right away. They honored the price quote they originally gave me months ago, minus the demo, which I greatly appreciated. Great start! There were a few snafus due to the nature of my space (a loft in an old building), but Adrian always came up with a solution to solve the problem. They were efficient and pleasant to have around. Always on time, made sure they cleaned up, and kept me in the loop regarding everything they were doing. I'm very happy with my kitchen and really appreciated the dedication and obvious attention to detail Adrian and the team provided. I gave dave 4 thousand dollars to paint an empty 800 square foot condo with no furniture and he didn't finish painting kitchen or hallways or closet shelves. It was an easy job. But it was a nightmare. I have a list a mile long. The straw that broke the camels back was him doing something simple like putting a rod in my closet to hang my cloths. Well I put my last piece of clothing on rod and the whole closet rods and brackets came out of wall on top of me. He came back after his vacation 1 week later and fixed it then he measured wrong and I couldn't open the drawers from dresser inside of closet that he knew I had to open the drawers. So that being said I couldn't trust Dave installing my cabinets for premier. He can't even hang a closet rod let alone cabinets. Hit or miss kinda a guy. Live and learn. Reviews are for a reason. Next time I will listen. That was a lot of money for me Beware.

We are on our second property in Chicago and have for one reason or another had to hire more than…read moreour fair share of contractors. We've found that there are plenty of good contractors who do good work and, if you do your due diligence up front, things will generally work out. However, Kucera Construction are the first exceptional contractor we've hired. They were above and beyond anything else we've experienced in the city of Chicago. This was the biggest project we've taken on yet - a kitchen remodel that involved demolition of one wall. We ended up hiring Peter and his crew for a few reasons: 1. It was clear he was a problem solver and detail oriented - taking out one of the walls meant extra support would need to be added. All the other 4 contractors said we'd need to add a post without exploring. He was the only one who looked at the wall in detail during the estimation process (going upstairs and to the basement to check it out). He said we may need a post but he thought we might not...end result: no post! We also wanted to remove the existing tiled floor and replace by running wood floor from elsewhere on the floor to create a consistent look...all other contractors said this could not be done. Peter said it could and made it happen. 2. Detailed quote: Every task was line itemed, which created transparency at the outset. We were able to take out aspects of the job that we felt were not worth it. 3. Pricing: Most of the contractors came in at roughly the same price but Peter's included the flooring and no post mentioned (unlike the other contractors). It took 3 months for Peter to start the job after we hired him (this was mostly due to our schedule). He was also up front that he was fully booked for a while, to me that's a good sign. He told us everything we needed to get ready before he did (it was our first kitchen remodel so this guidance was very helpful). Peter estimated 4-6 weeks for the job. It took just over 5. Every stage of the process was planned to ensure maximum efficiency. Our neighbors who had taken on a smaller kitchen remodel at the same time couldn't believe how much they got done in the time they did. His crew were there every day (except the days we didn't have the resources he needed...our fault not his) to ensure he met this deadline. All his workers were polite, non-obtrusive and respectful. They kept mess to a minimum throughout. He was good at keeping to the budget. We ended up paying more than we were quoted for but this was due to unforeseen issues that were out of his control and items we added during the process. Both were fair. He also gave credits where he'd overestimated original pricing as he went through the job. Peter's communication throughout the process was excellent. He would check we were happy with every little thing (lighting positioning, recessed lighting fixtures, light switch types, even hood height etc.) before proceeding. We are so happy with the end result: our new kitchen is amazing and is surpasses our vision for the space. The quality of the work is outstanding. We are so pleased we hired Kucera Construction. They are an exceptional contractor.

David, the owner, seems like a nice guy, and he did a good job replacing the tiles on my bathroom floor, and he (mostly his assistant) did a lot of painting, which on the whole looks good. But see below... The big issues were what I discovered after he was finished and had left: fresh paint stains in multiple areas, including the wood floor of my 19th century house and even furniture - which I cleaned up. Splattered paint near the ceiling of my kitchen which still, three months later, has not been patched, paint stains on my oriental rug, a major purchase 40 years ago, etc. David said he would pay for the rug damage, and I only asked for 50% of the very reasonable $175 cleaning cost. David told me to bill him via Zelle, something I said I'm not sure how to do. He already has my Zelle information, since that's how I paid him for the work. But after messaging him and emailing several times, he has not responded. And I still have paint streaks on the wall and an unpaid bill. So I can't recommend Handy Gentlemen. I think part of the problem is that David is under-manned and a bit overwhelmed, but not responding to my messages is unprofessional.

Sam is truly a Class Act…read more Having been through our fair share of harrowing and disappointing experiences with handymen and contractors in the past, we were extremely wary as we got started with our kitchen remodel planning process. As a matter of due diligence, we invited 10 contractors to propose a quote. For one, Sam's estimate was very competitive and reasonable (compared to other quotes). More importantly, he quickly grasped what our overall objectives were for the space, and proactively made some great suggestions that gave us the confidence that he was in sync with our requirements. As with most customers that go through a major remodel, my wife and I went back and forth on our choices for the cabinets and countertop, and not once did Sam flinch or pushback. On the contrary, there were certain additional items that were not part of our initial discussions (and estimate) that Sam voluntarily brought up and offered to do for us (at no additional cost) despite knowing that it would mean additional labor to him. Aware that we had wanted the remodel to be completed before Christmas as were hosting a party at home, Sam spent most of Christmas eve literally rolling up his sleeves and working non-stop for over 8 hours (without even meal breaks) and left only after he personally cleaned up the space. It is not always easy for small business owners to consistently put 'customer service' ahead of profits, but that is exactly what I observed of Sam, time and again. He did not accept the final payment until he was certain that we were 100% happy with the final outcome. I do not believe I have ever written such a long review for anyone, and that is hopefully a testimony to Sam's work. We cannot be more delighted with our new kitchen and I am happy to share some pictures. We look forward to working with Sam again on our future home projects.
