That price felt reasonable, so I asked what exactly it included. The policy was explained to me along the lines of: "We can usually cover the cost of parts within this price, but occasionally there are outliers where additional costs may be necessary depending on the repair." Honestly, I found that even more reasonable. We live in a world where tech manufacturers care less and less about repairability and seem to believe you're better off just buying a new device instead of fixing the one you have. Asus itself charges a minimum diagnostic fee of $99, and that doesn't even include shipping. At that point, I can only imagine what the communication and turnaround time would look like. After a few days of diagnostics, it was explained to me that I would need a new keyboard. Most of the keys simply needed a little work to get functioning again, but unfortunately my "C" key was completely done for, which was obviously out of their control. A replacement keyboard was ordered from a relatively local supplier, but it arrived defective, so we had to pivot to another option from China. What really impressed me was that they returned my laptop to me while we waited for the new keyboard to arrive. That wasn't even something I had considered as a possibility. Even though the repair wasn't complete yet, I greatly appreciated being able to use my laptop in the meantime. That is absolutely not something you'd get from the manufacturer. The estimated arrival time for the replacement keyboard was about a month, but it actually showed up in only about two and a half weeks. I was psyched. I dropped my laptop off in the morning right when they opened, and it was ready for pickup by the end of the same day. Best of all, I was told there would be no additional charges beyond the original quote. Both of the gentlemen behind the counter were thoughtful, considerate, and professional throughout the entire process. The pricing was highly reasonable, the communication was excellent, and I got my laptop back in perfect shape in a timely manner. Highly, highly recommend.

Two promptly came back with bids within 24 hours. One, Bay Alarm set expectations they needed more days and even a weekend to prepare the bid. The weekend came and went without a bid showing up. By Thursday afternoon, a week after the other bids were in my inbox, I called in only to find out the service technician was still working on it. A week after he said we'd have it to us, and long after the others had arrived, still working on it. It made me pause. Naturally I was wondering exactly how long it would take them to call the police if my newly installed security alarm were to go off in our home? I called the owner who stated the same thing and then went on to explain that the panel calls a 1-800 number to check in and you must have long distance service for this call to connect, so you must have changed your service to save a few bucks. Let that sink in....I was polite and told him I would have our phone carrier check our line and service, also telling him I am the person that manages the phone system. Called our carrier and they sent out a tech who checked our line, had a senior engineer do a call trace and our account manager confirmed our service on that line. The call is being blocked at Major Alarm, so it is a problem with their carrier. 1-800 calls do NOT require a long distance service to connect. Nice try but they just learned the hard way, not all customers are uninformed, uneducated and willing to accept the aw shucks two step. Do not do business with this company, they lie and deceive.

That level of honesty is pretty rare. They could easily have kept the work in-house or added a layer of profit, but instead they focused on what was best for me as the customer.
