I have been going to High Desert Archery for several years to practice and compete. Owners Lynette and Jeremey are very friendly and helpful. The numerous range lanes have good lighting. They sell bows and accessories and have a bow technician on site to help you get set up. They offer classes to learn how to shoot at any age. Archery is a sport you can learn as a child, complete your entire life, and watch yourself improve as you progress over a lifetime. High desert archery is a great range for family as well as individuals looking to shoot some arrows and have a great time. The owners, Lynette and Jeremey have been so kind and helpful to both my sons (7 & 4 years old) and myself. My kids are in their homeschool class and a weekend class. The homeschool class is designed for homeschool kids during the week, includes the gear rentals and is semester based. Lynette and Jeremey teach the class themselves and do a wonderful job. My kids are learning the basics of archery and most of all, they are having a blast doing it. The class is also very reasonably priced. The weekend class is for any kids that wish to learn. Bonus: there are enough lanes that us parents can bring our bows too and get in a little range time as the kids learn. I know they also have various classes for adults but I haven't been to one of those yet. The range is neat and the shop in the front has various archery equipment for purchase. The guys who came to teach archery to the kids had the worst attitudes. Yelling at kids for no reason. They were very rude to the camp counselors.They shouldn't work with kids. I would not recommend these people at all. read more

Try this Archery Range and ask about their many different Leagues or make a purchase in their shop. My son takes JOAD/NASP (Junior Olympic Archery Development) (National Archery in the Schools Program) classes here. Dave the owner teaches the classes. He is very knowledgeable, caring, supportive and patient with the students. He knows what to say, how to say it and what to show the student to get the result the student is looking for. JOAD lessons run an hour a week. They even have a homeschool class. They offer classes that include equipment rental. The Second Annual Bat Shoot is Friday Nights at 6:30 with a Adult and Youth division. This is a fun shoot. This is an activity fun for the whole family. We set up a private session for my daughters Girl Scout Troop. 11 girls...these brave souls! They were quick to get the girls checked in, set them up with equipment and move on to the class. Instructors were patient and informative. Helped the girls with correct technique on holding bows and form to shoot. A lot of info for a short class. The girls enjoyed themselves and learned something. Woot woot. That's a real win win situation with 11 tweens. I thank them for their patience and excellent customer service. Cost was more than reasonable for the class. There was a number of bows for sale and equipment as well as accessories. I would definitely say check it out! read more

If you are a serious archer who demands the best out of their equipment, I HIGHLY recommend staying away from High Desert Archery. I brought a bow in to get new strings put on, and when I came in to sight it in and paper tune it, he informed me that the paper tune cost extra, and that I'd also need to pay a range fee to sight in. Ummm WHAT?! That's ridiculous, but whatever. We paid. Then while my wife was sighting her newly strung bow in, the D loop snapped off not once, but TWICE! UNACCEPTABLE!!! To top it all off, when we returned home we shot about a dozen arrows through the bow, and the damn peep sight came untied and flew out. Shit happens, but not like this. Disappointed is an understatement. It seems these guys really don't know what they're doing when it comes to professionally tuning a bow. He told me "paper tuning usually isn't necessary"... again, WHAT?!?!?! I've been shooting archery for 30 years and have never had this many issues with a pro shop. When I went in to chat with him to see if he would make things right by offering a refund or something, he basically told me to go f*** myself. I'll never return to this place again, and if you take your shooting seriously, I suggest you find another shop as well... read more

After trying a Reno archery competitor, my boyfriend and I, gave High Desert Archery a shot. Archery must be the newest craze in Reno. High Desert Archery featured a 10 dollar groupon for an hour session and 5 minute "lesson". I bought one for myself and one as a gift for my boyfriend. We thought it would be a fun Labor Day day date. This place wasn't very busy and there were only two other archers in here at the time of our session. As you walk in there is a small pro gift shop and a huge indoor range. The lady was very accommodating and allowed us to try many different kinds of recurve and compound bows. I used a standard compound bow because it was what I was used to. My boyfriend, Bryan needed a recurve bow that would accommodate for his height. I particularly liked that this place offered arm guards and finger protection. I was hesitant at first, but it is definitely a must due to your fingers getting sore from pulling on the bow string so many times. Plus, it is nice to protect your arm from bruises and welts. The girl that was working there was nice and helpful. She explained things, but didn't go into too much detailed. Our sessions were for an hour, but no one was keeping track of the time. We stayed and shot for about two hours. I would definitely recommend coming here again. read more

My girlfriend and I bought groupons for a hour of range time and bow rental for $10 each. The building was kind of hard to find with a small sign and hidden among random businesses. Inside there was a small pro shop as well as a large indoor range. My girlfriend choose a light compound bow and I got a 60lb recurve bow. As a large guy it was probably at the limit of how strong my beginner hands could handle. They also let us use arm guards and gloves which was a nice touch. The owner was out hunting, but the girl who was working there was nice and helpful. There were only 4 of us shooting, which made it a more laid back experience. If you haven't tried archery before I would totally recommend trying it. Even absolute beginners can have a great time blasting arrows into distant targets. Really enjoyed my time at this archery range! First of all, the owners and people(shout-out to Arthur!) here really go out of their way to help you get better (especially if you've never done archery before)! Which is extremely beneficial and amazing as the other ranges I've gone to were not as helpful like they were for my group. To get you started, they do a quick test to find which eye is your dominant eye then set you up with a right or left handed bow. Then you can choose between having a closer or longer target. The closer one is about 30 or 40 ft away (in my opinion) and the longer one is double that length. I highly recommend trying out the longer one because it's more fun to shoot at. You can increase the tension on your bow too. Apparently, the max is at about 25lbs. Which sounds like a lot but really isn't! Initially, you won't even feel it. If you keep shooting for like an hr or more, then you're muscles are probably going to get tired. I came in with a group of 8 people on a Sunday. They have roughly 15 lanes, but a few were being used by members of the range. Originally, we were going to share 4 lanes and switch out. But we ended up trying the farther target so we rotated between 6 lanes. They were very accommodating! Also they no longer accept Groupon, but will honor the $10 price tag for an hour + bow rental + 5min mini lesson. Don't know how long this is going to last, so I'd go ASAP. read more

I got to give this place a 5 star rating! I went with a family member (who belongs to a league here) just to watch. Wow, I was impressed. The people are friendly, and very helpful.
