We had an amazing last minute trip to see the waterfalls and autumn leaves! Staying in a yurt was so much fun! So thankful for the heater as it was a chilly night! We were staying in the area for a holiday get away. We took our kids here many many years ago. It was a gorgeous fall day. The leaves were still so pretty. We hiked 2 miles and it was very enjoyable. They have several restrooms and camping spots and little tent looking things. If you are in the area, stop and look at the falls, go for a walk. It is very family friendly and many people had dogs on the trails. It was a very nice Thanksgiving Day. read more

One of my favorite state parks in GA. Great bass fishing. I'm mean great! I used to come here as a kid and jump off the small fall. Then my friends and I would swim around and find muscles to throw on a grill for a great afternoon snack. Of course you can't jump from the fall now, but I sure everything else is still great. read more

Although i have gone here several times to hike the trail, this was my first time camping here. The sites are very nice, several right next to the river. Many of them have a big lawn area which was great for the kids. There are areas/trails for biking, a playground, several bathrooms located throughout the campsite, and fishing. Got some beautiful pictures of the falls. We always come back...so of course i would recommend. read more

High Falls State Park - Parks Near Me - Jackson, Georgia

High Falls is located off of exit 198 on I-75 and has a variety of activities. Parking costs money, but it is fairly cheap. There were two lots, one that has an attendant and one that is based on the honor system. The trails begin across the street from the attended lot and there are a few routes you can take. We accidentally ended up on the wrong trail which had much less hiking next to the water. This trail was well kept and can be categorized as moderately difficult. I didn't get a chance to circle back and complete the trail next to the water, but I doubt it would have mattered much since it was winter and there was barely any water flow. People were running all across the rocks since there was no water, however the signs all say this is a no-no. Overall, a decent park with opportunities to hike but nothing spectacular in terms of sights. read more

This park has changed a lot since my first time of coming here more than 20 years ago. This will be our last trip here. There are ropes and signs all over the river trail keeping you from even touching the water. Red signs are all over the place stating that touching the water would result in a civil citation. When I first came here there were tons of happy people swimming all up and down the river - not any more. read more

A great place to get away and be in the woods! Find a day in the 50s enjoy the hike! Only 30mins from Macon, 15 mins from the Tanger outlet! The trail we hiked lasted about an hour and a half, enjoyed it! We thought maybe we could bring our bikes,but after walking it we wouldn't recommend it. read more

Wow!!!! If your trying to find a place to camp I highly recommend this place. We have a 28 foot camper and had no problem finding a nice site. Located right on a river not only was it beautiful but entertaining. Both our son and our dogs loved playing in the water and on the rocks. The weather was gorgeous. It was mid October and in the morning it was 50 degrees warming up to about 80. The comfort stations were clean with a few daddy long legs to hang out with in the shower. (Very common thing but fewer here than all the other places we've been). We spent two nights and will definitely go back. read more

Seven of us went here this weekend for a mini-vacation. I'd never been camping before so I really had no idea what to expect. Everyone else got there the night before and not an hour after we got there, one of the park employees informed us we had to move. They had been put on a yurt site and confirmed that it would be okay to set up there. Apparently not. The communication among the park staff, rangers, and administrative office was laughably poor. No one seemed to have any idea what anyone else was telling people. So beware that what one person tells you might be the exact opposite of what someone else thinks is the policy. The location was nice. I appreciated that they had really bathrooms that were reasonably clean. The gravel "camping" pads were less than comfortable, though. Next time I'll know to bring extra padding for under my sleeping bag. They don't allow you to pitch tents on the grass or dirt which seems a bit silly, but apparently that was another rule that slipped through the cracks. It's only $25/night, though, so it's much more reasonable than most getaway options. We'll probably be back and now more aware of the pitfalls of this particular park. read more

Beautiful place for a hike but keep in mind, it will be a hike!! These aren't your paved paths for bikes and easy walking :-) Stay near the water for beautiful scenery. Can't wait to rent one of their lakefront yurts and rent a paddle boat or kayak!! read more

Stopped by during a road trip for much needed driving break and to get my run in for the day. Park was clean. I followed the wooden nature trail on the right and at times it was hard finding the trail markings and then I followed the trail right along the water. It was beautiful. I'm hoping to go there for the weekend and camp. read more

The falls are a great place for a family outing ,but for God's sake please stay off the rocks,they are slippery and the water is rushing over them.The lake is full of all species of fish.Walking trails and observation decks to view the falls.They have RV hookups as well as little cottages you can rent.Canoe and kayak rentals.There is a small parking fee and restroom as well as showers on the property read more

Right off 75, perfect place to take an extended breather from a long road trip. Two excellent trails are available 1.5 and 2.5 miles, both leading to the falls. Huge complex of activities including boating, swimming and (!!) mini-golf. Plenty of picnic areas for groups large and small, as well a ranger station with general store items. Parking/Entrance is 5 bucks for the day and really is a great value for such a centrally located green space. read more

When we first purchased our 2014 Tiffin Allegro Bus (Feb 2014), we stayed at this campground because it was close to home. Our goal was to figure out all the perks and issues associated with the RV, and try to get those worked out while we were still close to home. We stayed at Lot 72 and had a blast there. It was a beautiful site and had several people in there (especially since it is in the middle of winter). The people here are VERY nice, and the campground hosts were very friendly, however, they only have power and water, and a sewer dump station nearby to take care of those needs. Of course, grey tank dumping is not allowed in Georgia, or any state park for that matter. read more

Took an 1 1/2 hour drive from my home to the park. The man made water fall at the entrance was very nice. The reason for the visit was to see the wife's family camping for the 3 day weekend. Since we brought the poles we decided to fish the creek/river. Although we saw fish after fish swim by and ignore every lure in my tackle box, the time of day 3pm was our issue. This is our second time to stay in a yurt (the 1st was at Fort Yargo) and it's a great way to enjoy camping but with a little bit more comfort. Our family of 4 had plenty of room and were quite happy. We brought a box fan and a small table fan to make the yurt cooler. There is a ceiling fan, and the windows open, but the fans were a must, especially when it rained. We also brought a clothesline that we tied to the walls and back of the bunk bed to make a place to hang towels and swimsuits. Finally, we brought bedding and pillows, but since we could park right outside the yurt, carrying everything in wasn't too bad. (The yurts in Fort Yargo are on a peninsula, and we could not park near our yurt. They provided a wagon, though, which was greatly appreciated.) I wish we had brought a step ladder. Unlike the yurts in Fort Yargo, the windows near the front door are NOT accessible from the porch. We could open them but not roll them up. My husband climbed the porch rail and was able to roll up one cover partially. We lost some air flow because of that, but, again, the fans helped. We stayed inYurt #3, which was conveniently located right across from the bathrooms and a short walk to the pool. It was rather far back from the water, and the view was semi-blocked by trees. Still, it was very pretty and quiet. The nature trails were beautiful, but a bit taxing. We should have had long pants and better shoes. Sneakers and shorts were fine for most of what we walked, but there were some slippery rocky areas that we struggled through a little bit. We enjoyed our weekend at High Falls very much and will definitely visit again. read more

Easy to get to. Clean bathrooms. Good place for kids. The hike to the falls is reasonable for most family members and is pretty. It's a great place for family pictures and playing in the creek. We've been at off-peak times so it's been quiet and empty. Will probably go again. read more

Absolutely loved the park! Great trails to walk and explore. My favorite was the falls trail! Sections of Tranquility trail seemed to be less tranquil due to the many cut down trees. Also I lost my favorite pair of tommy Hilfiger shades at the park which is absolutely my fault. Is there a way to get hold of it???? It was a gift. read more

My family has been coming here for 40 plus years. In the past this has been a great place to camp sadly not anymore. We paid for two spots cause we are a large family. We was all gathered around at my dads camper eating and a fat employee with a bad attitude came up and said there could only be 6 people on a camp site and we had to split up. He then started about how there were too many vehicles between the 2 sites. We had the 2 per site and then my brothers jeep that we paid the extra parking pass for. He then went on to say that even though we paid for the extra pass he couldn't park in the park. He then proceeded to insult my father and accused him of drinking and all this was at 10 o'clock when we was just sitting around and fixing to get on bed. This employee then stated he was a ranger and would give us a citation and have us removed. After talking to the superintendent of the park who was actually a really nice fellow named Fred we come to find out that this employee could not give us a citation and the situation would be handled. High falls state park is a great place to take a vacation. i would have gave it 5 stars if the pool was open before i drive 3 and half hours there because they told us the pool would be open and when we got there it was colsed my kids was not happy so we played in the river by the falls. The camp grounds was very clean and nice. Fishing in the river was good it give the kids something to do. read more

My group has stayed here a few times and the facilities are well taken care. Our group camped on the Pioneer Camp Ground and they even have a power source. The park was very packed the weekend we went. When we arrived we entered the wrong entrance and the gentleman at the gate was very accommodating and sent us to the correct area. But at sunset another group came to our site and claimed they rented the site for the weekend. Apparently they double booked the campsite. We felt very bad for the campers because it was dark by the time they came. A few hours later a group of teens and a few chaperones drove down to the restrooms to use the facilities. They were harassed because of where they parked and told they did not "belong" there but the worse part was a volunteer who worked for the park joined in and had the audacity to open the ladies restroom door and yell at the girls(ages 11 to 16 ) in the shower to come out. Totally crossing the line. Needless to say we lodged a complaint to the office bright a nd early the following morning. Of course they apologized profusely for his treatment by their employee. We were told that the restrooms were closed from 10pm-6am, which we were not made aware of prior. So two things were made it a horrible situation. One, it only became a problem when our campers were using the restroom like everyone else at the same time. Two, the belligerent employee was concerned with the wrong type of people being there instead of tell us the rules of the park. I will request from my church board no longer use this park. Yes it is beautiful and serene but because we no longer felt safe in their environment and not put our children in harms way. It was just camping but turned into the Deep South 1950's rather quickly. read more

So, I will start with the good point to High Falls State Park. The falls are beautiful! Not the dam, but the falls below. The park itself was, as my friend Kathleen C. would say, "A HOT MESS". The camp ground was not maintained. The comfort station was anything but comfortable. It's camping, I get it. I am not expecting the crapper at the Ritz but at least clean the place once a day! The whole place just "felt" weird. There were odd flea markets and a Dollar General in the park. The lake smelled weird. The park officer who checked me in was great. I did not catch her name but she was so friendly and made you feel like your grandma was welcoming you home. When I went back in the following day to ask about trail maps, the officer there this time looked at me like I had three heads. On a positive note, the camp host at the time was very friendly. Needless to say, we will not be back again. On our way home, we decided to check out Indian Springs State Park (15 min. away). Wow, what a difference 15 minutes can make. It looked AWESOME! It was clean, maintained, and we did not see any "bad" camp sites. Long story short, avoid High Falls at all costs and drive the extra 15 minutes to Indian Springs. read more

We enjoyed this campground and the trail and view of High Falls. The park staff were excellent. It would be rated higher but the men's shower only had cold water and the women's only had hot water. Not sure which was more uncomfortable on a chilly night. read more

I was just there today so I'll start with the positives. The staff in the trading post were friendly and helpful, ample parking and clean bathrooms. The negatives for me though was all the litter idiots left on the trails. How hard is it for people to clean up after themselves. The trails seemed to not have much use recently, and I only saw one other person while I was there. I've been to so many other state parks that I've seen what they can be, this wasn't horrific but not worth the 80 mile ride for me. Maybe I'll check out Indian Springs as the other person wrote. read more

We have been going to High Falls state Park for over 5 years. Place is great, well maintained, bathrooms clean, the dollar general and the thrift stores are not on the premises but is on the main road before you go into the camp ground. Everyone has always been pleasant, great scenery, get to see critters, deer chipmunks its a great place and High falls BBQ gets 5 stars read more
