    Caesar salad

We came back to high hat, Café two days later because the food and the service was so great. Our second trip we had the red fish, a Caesar salad, the crab salad, gumbo, and the barbecue shrimp. The food was delicious and fresh, service was great, bartenders are friendly with great cocktails. We will come back soon. Ammee is casual, but come early because there's always a line out the door.

Cool bar with delicious drinks. Recommend their Old Fashion, with their own barrel aged bourbon

Great drinks. Didn't eat this time but heard its first come first served. The Old Fashion was great!

High Hat is always a solid spot for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. Casual dining and just good food. Staff is consistently nice and friendly.

Had a friend bring me here for lunch, and I haven't stopped visiting since then. I will tell all who will listen about this place! Love the environment, staff is always so polite, and you'll definitely need a nap after the food. What are you waiting for?? -- get UP & GO!!

High Hat fits so many foodie boxes. It's a local sit-down dining restaurant that's as formal as you want it to be yet informal, too. It's the local dinner spot for your best friends while also being perfect for a single seating at the bar. It's where you go to sit by the window and ponder big decisions. It's where you go when you want to celebrate a big birthday with twelve of your friends. That said, I can't recommend everything on the menu because I come here based on my mood: The Girl's Lunch: A cup of Chicken & Andouille Gumbo Ya Ya with a scoop of potato salad and an Aviation cocktail. Just Got Paid Girl's Night Stop #1: Pimento Cheese Plate, Smoked Fish Dip, The Pretty Purdie Cocktail or Pimm's Cup for the group. Sunday Lunch: The Vegetable Plate (Braised Greens, Black Eyed Peas, Pimento Cheese Grits, and a side of cornbread) and dessert - the grapefruit pie if it's in season. You're not going to go wrong with anything on the menu and if you decide to sit at the bar, look up. There are off-menu specials that rotate and they're always fun. High Hat prides itself in great service so smile and relax. They'll take good care of you. The restaurant is small and parking is tight but there's usually a spot in the lot across the street. The interior is open with a bar that runs the length of the back wall and windows above that makes the small space seem larger.

We walked in early afternoon on a Sunday and there weren't many fold in there. We ordered a few beers and I had the Cuban with pulled pork which was great ! My husband had a fried shrimp poboy which was good but disappointed that there was so few shrimp (less than 8). We tried the purple potato pie which was good.

Had a late day at the hospital and needed a place that was close by, and could get a quick meal. I've eaten all around the area but had always skipped it and not sure why. Was welcomed immediately when I walked in. Guy asked where I wanted to sit and I said anywhere that's easiest. That was the bar. They have a lot of sandwiches, staple NOLA dishes and some good looking drinks. I opted for the Reuben with fries. Came out quickly. Bread was delicious. Corned beef was a bit drier that I like but the sauerkraut made up for it. It was a little pricey for what I got but it was good so there's that. I'd come back.

Service was great - Andrew is awesome - kept our waters and drinks filled, was friendly and funny, brought our food out promptly and accurately. Burgers were good - fat 8oz patties. I could only eat half bc I stuffed my face with cheese plate as an appetizer. There were 4 of us, 3 of us got burgers, one of us got the gumbo and the BBQ shrimp. Including 1 coke and 5 drinks out tab was $191 (before tip). It was a good meal. They were also very accommodating to two of our guests having shellfish allergies and had the burgers cooked in a clean pan and not on the grill to avoid cross contamination. So nice.

This is a great neighborhood corner cafe that has a cool vibe. The shrimp creole and Mac n cheese was very good. So much flavor. The service was excellent as well. I'll be back.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and the host was able to accommodate our table of 9 pretty quickly. Various options on the menu but most of us went with a sandwich of some sort. The po boy bread was so good, shrimp seasoned and fries were fresh. Would definitely come back.

    Slow Roasted Pork

This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Uptown - I've tried nearly everything on the menu. Fav items are the smoked chicken and slow roasted pork, but their specials are also usually worth trying. Only complaint is that it seems like they never have the black bottom peanut pie anymore - craving it always!

Best Cuban sandwich hands down. Service was excellent. Everything was made in house. Very pleasant atmosphere. We will be back.

Between my partner and I, we didn't spend more than $30 in this place. This place is super low-key; no expectations of dressing fancy one bit. It's the kind of spot that you'd go into after a long night of partying, ready to end the night with a juicy burger with crispy fries, topped with ice cold beverages. If you can squeeze in a moment to order from their grill, I promise you won't be disappointed!

This past week we visited and we could both tell right away things were different. The inside of the restaurant was filthy and I mean filthy. You could see the floor under the bar and in the kitchen hadn't been cleaned in months. The fryers hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Everything just looked dirty and like no effort is put into cleaning and maintenance. We decided to eat anyway which was a mistake. We love their burgers that are cooked and steamed old school. We both ordered one. My wife ordered hers with bacon, which they charge over 3 bucks for. We both ordered our burger dressed with all the fixings. When my wife's burger came out it had no bacon and no fixings. I told the waiter and he said he would handled it. He never did as he started doing other orders. My burger had no flavor and it looked like the person that made it didn't care , which goes along with the restaurant cleanness. One thing that really turned us off was the was other guest were treated by staff. The "cook" was completely pissed off and had a horrible attitude. A group came in looking for a table and there wasn't room. He yelled at them that there wasn't room. They stood in the entrance area for a few moments and then he yelled at them that they needed to get out of the restaurant and wait outside. He told them this isn't a restroom so don't wait in line. The attitude and distain in his voice was overwhelming. A few minutes later a couple came in and found 2 seats at the bar. They decided to order food to go and was talking to the waiter. One of the 2 people ordering was standing behind the empty bar seat while they ordered. The cook yelled at this person that they needed to sit down. Both customers were stunned. The waiter told the cook they were making an order to go and the cook could be heard muttering under his breath. This little guy was nothing but attitude and seemed extremely pissed off the there. Maybe instead of being the restaurant traffic cop and total smart ass he should concentrate on getting orders straight since ours was screwed up and never fixed. Whatever charm this place had is gone along with the any effort to keep it up to clean standards.

The 8oz filet mignon steak special is, dollar for dollar, the best steak I have ever had in a restaurant. I've been coming here for about 6 or 7 years now, and they are easily in my top three. The vibe? Dive bar, laid back, no fuss... but the FOOD? Don't sleep on it. Their menu is solid and I still haven't made it through everything yet. I've had the wings, which we actually got this visit but ate them so fast we didn't even get a picture. That should tell you enough right there. I've had the pizza, and my husband usually goes for a burger. Never any complaints. They've got plenty on tap and the drinks hit too. I love a good Electric Lemonade, but this time I kept it simple with an Angry Orchard. Now let's talk about what keeps me coming back... The steak. We got our old faithful, one of their signature steaks, the 10oz petite ribeye. This is exactly what made me fall in love with Turtle Bay in the first place. Normally it's around $13.95, comes with a twice stuffed potato and a slice of garlic bread. A DEAL. This time it was a little higher, but still under $15, which honestly is still more than fair with how prices are these days. And when I say it be hitting... it be hitting. Only reason this visit didn't get a full 5 stars? My steak was cooked a little over my liking. I usually go for medium, and this one leaned more done than I prefer. Not horrible, just not my usual perfection. But everything else? Still solid. The staff is always nice, always welcoming. I've never had a bad experience with them, and that matters. And I already know I'm coming back because I keep hearing the crawfish is FIRE. Yeah... I need to see that for myself. This is my happy place. Open 24/7, consistent, affordable, and just a real gem in the French Quarter. The Bay is Babe. Period.

Hidden gem ALERT!!!!!…read more I explored the French Quarter for more authentic eats, and escaped Burbon St...mission complete. New Orleans version of a NY bodega is where I found one of the best and most adorable shrimp po'boys. You'll have to put these directions into your phone, because the location is in the depths of the neighborhood district. It's walkable to and from the popular Canal Street, just much quieter and secluded. You won't be able to park on this particular street, but near by areas would allow for street parking. This is in fact a grocery store with a hot food market setup in the back. I was pleasantly greeted immediately as I entered by a gentleman stocking, and a nice lady behind the register. I immediately darted to the back of the store and saw the setup, simple with a bit of updated technology. You can order and pay at a tablet style screen, and wait for the magic to be made on the other side. It took about 5 minutes and I got a text my order was ready, the same gentleman who was stocking called out my name from the back and handed me a 12 inch shrimp po'boy for 12.00. This sandwich was incredible, loaded with crispy fried shrimp and fresh lettuce. The bun was soft and very fresh, I added extra pickles for an acidic flavor breakup to the fried fish and dough. The flavors were on point, very seasoned and perfectly cooked shrimp. I was very impressed by the price and quality....not to mention customer service. Pro Tip: My van driver mentioned to me before dropping me off at the hotel, a lot of people walk Burbon Street and turn around when it becomes residential. But there is actually a ton of life and experiences to be had off the beaten path, both local and authentic.
