Can't speak for the food here but their delivery practices are borderline evil. The two times I tried to order from here I never got my food. The restaurant holds the order and takes the phone off the hook so you can't harass them. Delivery guy after delivery guy was canceling delivery and there is nothing I can do about it so I wind up ordering from another location never getting the food. One of the delivery guys told me that the restaurant is notorious for taking a very long time. Don't ever order from here. read more

Coming from Little Saigon in OC, California, I've found it really hard to find authentic Vietnamese food here in the city! There's a lot of Chinese style Vietnamese food, or places that completely miss the mark. Admittedly, the prices were steep, but the food was amazing! Just like something I would get back home. I ordered Goi Cuon (Spring rolls/ Summer rolls), Pho Bo (Beef Pho), Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwich), and Bun Nem Nuong (Rice noodle with pork patty). Pro tip: get a poached egg with your pho!! I didn't realize that the lunch menu is different from the dinner menu, so I was disappointed that I couldn't try the Bun Bo Hue. Guess I'll have to come back to try it!! read more

This place has great decor with lots of attention to detail and the people who work there incredibly nice. Loved that there were vegan-friendly options! But unfortunately our group of 5 all left feeling terribly disappointed with the food! It was all beautiful and fresh, but BLAND. The pho broth for both the beef and chicken pho were flavorless, had to ask for sriracha and hoisin sauce (doesn't come automatically) to try to add some flavor but that obviously didn't really solve the problem. The pork and shrimp in banh xeo weren't seasoned so that was also bland. The tofu in the banh mi was also flavorless where sauce was requested in an attempt to give it some flavor. And the summer rolls also lacked flavor. The tamarind wings were the one thing that someone in our group said they thoroughly enjoyed. Based on other reviews, maybe we were there on an off night?! I've had pho hundreds if not thousands of times in my life and have been to Vietnam- so it definitely wasn't because I wasn't familiar with how Vietnamese food usually tastes. Grew up on authentic Vietnamese. My diaper buddy's grandma was straight from Vietnam, and would cook for me all the time when I was young. I've had a hard time finding really flavorful, authentic Vietnamese out here. The Beef Pho broth was pretty good. Not a fan of the actual meat or noodles. The spring rolls were okay as well. I've been coming to High Lúa for over a year with my fiancée, and much like everyone else has said, we really enjoy the food here. We get spoiled with authentic Vietnamese food when we visit family in Houston, but here in Brooklyn it's harder to find. I'd recommend their banh uot, hu tieu and ga nuong muoi ot, amongst others. Even though their food is delicious, this review isn't meant for that. Simply put, the people at High Lúa are amazing and caring human beings, particularly Kenny. Recently, my fiancée and I got married in NYC and we asked if we could stop in for a quick photo or two in their restaurant on a Friday afternoon (it's a very intimate and stylish setup). Without question, Kenny offered to open the restaurant an hour early for us to come in and essentially make it our own. We were given lay of the land, took some great photos and everyone we brought was given a ca phe sua da on the house. It was such a pleasant surprise and a selfless act on his part, we loved it. Thank you Kenny, and all of the fine people at High Lúa. To everyone else, I recommend coming in for a big, delicious meal with friends whenever you have a chance. read more

The starters were pretty good, although everything went downhill from there. The service was extremely slow, and the soup I was served was cold. No one ever checked in to see how everything was nor seemed to care. This seems more like a delivery place as opposed to somewhere to sit down and eat. I wouldn't recommend. read more

Authentic Vietnamese food. Tastes as it does in Vietnam, they really do care about the food and the detail that goes into it. Had the Bun Bo Hue and that was different -- I have never had it before but my friend raved about it. For me, it was okay. As nextdoor neighbors to this space we are so excited a new amazing restaurant has come to South 2nd! We came pretty early on a Saturday night, around 6:30 and it was close to full but not crowded. The spring rolls and pancake were delicious, I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish appetizers and pho but everything was so delicious we had no problem clearing our plates. Definitely recommend the beef pho--the chef stopped by our table and told us how it's made from scratch. Very rich and savory with a little kick! Delicious, fresh, authentic Vietnamese cuisine! In the old Beehive Oven space, This place is new, not even two weeks old yet. I had the banh xeo crepe, nice and light with lots of fresh herbs. They don't seem to have alcohol yet, but their beverages are AMAZING. First time I've seen salted limeade in NYC, which is something I used to enjoy in the Vietnamese restaurants of New Orleans. Sounds weird, but try it! Made with pickled limes, it's Refreshingly sweet & sour with just a little bit of saltiness. Solid bowl of pho soup in a city where the average bowl of pho soup is mediocre. This one shines above most of the rest. The summer rolls we had were solid too. The only thing I have to knock them for is their pancake (crepe) aka bánh xèo. It's supposed to be very crispy - literally it's named after the sound it makes cooking in a hot skillet. This one was soggy and more like an omelette. Not very authentic (at least according to all the people from Vietnam I grew up with). Otherwise, very good tasting pho soup with attentive service, and the interior is enjoyable. We'll be back. read more

The appetizers were extremely fresh and delicious. Summer and spring rolls were on point. The sauce tasted a bit different from the ones in Chinatown - somehow better?? The fried tamarind wings were also very flavorful and juicy. I had the chicken pho. Let me tell you... the broth was something else. You can taste the freshness and the hours of simmering it had on the kitchen fire. It was like the broth went to the spa and came out all refreshed and ready to make your palates go crazy. It was definitely an explosion of flavors in my mouth. Incredibly rich, but not overpowering. Chicken was tender and the noodles were springy and cooked perfectly. For desserts, I had the lotus seed soup. Refreshing, sweet but subtle, and very cooling. So happy this place opened near my neighborhood. Will definitely come back and try the bun bo hue!!! Trying this restaurant based on all the reviews, was not disappointed. As I am on keto diet and not able to have any carbohydrates and sugar. Explained to our wait staff, he understood and conveyed to the chef. They accommodated my beef soup with extra beef and all trimmings with extra $3. They tempted even to allow us to order pork chop without the noodles for extra $5.50. Super nice of them!!! The beef broth & beef came in with a lot of scallions and a strong beef bone broth smell. The broth flavor is not too complex, but it is genuine without MSG. I drank the entire bowl and I was not thirsty afterward. The broth has a spicy kick aftermath and the slice beef were thin enough. The viet iced coffee was the most watered down viet coffee i have ever had. My bf ended up ordering it after I suggested that he doesn't (/rolls eyes). Went with my bf and a friend just yesterday and got 4 appetizers and 3 different entrees between the 3 of us. Favorites: Tamarind wings: must have! Grilled chicken/pork with rice: it actually comes with a side salad?!?! With cherry tomatoes and cucumbers and a dressing with a bit of a kick (not that I could really tell, i drenched the entire plate with the fantastic fish sauce) The "good to try but not what I come back for": Pho rolls: i got these cause they sounded great but overall, the rice roll was super thick and overwhelmed most of the other flavors :/ Vietnamese pancake: i was so confused on how to eat this but ended up wrapping some of the pancake in a leaf of romaine and dipped in fish sauce. The pancake was pleasantly crispy and had an unexpected coconutty aroma. Nice to look at, 4/5 taste imo Extra: lychee iced tea was jam packed with lychee flavor (even some lychee pulp!) I ordered Papaya Salad and Lemongrass Chicken through an app 45 min before they were closing. The size of the portions were generous but the papaya salad lacked flavor and tasted stale. The sweet sauce was overpowering and it did not have any spicy kick either. There were barely peanuts, basil or mint on top. Lemongrass chicken was cooked thoroughly and it was tender. There was an overpowering sweet sauce and it wasn't flavorful as I was expecting. It was a disappointing experience for me but hopefully they will increase the quality and I am hoping to try again in the future. read more
