I stopped by Em Vietnamese Bistro for a weekend lunch and was promptly seated by the windows, perfect for people watching. The restaurant was bustling, that's for sure. The bun thit nuong/pork vermicelli ($18) was just what I wanted and needed, and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of grilled pork that was provided. And by the overall size of the meal. Highly recommend Pineapple Express if you like a sweet and sour drink. The food was delicious, particularly the pho broth. The rice noodles were really chewy and the perfect texture imo. We ordered the family style braised pork (family style) and the beef pho, both to share. The food came quickly and the servers were helpful in bringing extra bowls and plates for splitting the food. The pork was incredibly flavorful and cooked well, and there was a heavenly sauce that it was cooked in that I recommend drizzling over your rice. em really is THAT b - ever since my bf and i tried em late september, i've since been here 5+ times (even hosted a 10 person bday party) and ordered from here over 4 times. i'm from the OC and have always said there's not a lot of good (cheap) pho in the city - and while em isn't OC cheap, it def slaps like the food i had growing up! you cannot go wrong ordering anything here but if i HAD to choose, ahem, here's what i'd do. start with the banh xeo (i wish it came a teeeeny bit crispier but gyatt damn the flavor has me drooling!) and calamari (when i die, buey me that green sauce), then the shaking beef (the best, most authentic bo luc lac i've had in the city, hands down) with the rice to sop up that deliCIOUS sossss, and finally the bun no hue (they do this SO right)!! the cocktails are just as delicious, the interior is modern and while service isn't the most attentive, it's mostly friendly. i'm so happy i found em - she will continue to bless my stomach this cold winter!! read more

I visited Em Vietnamese Bistro yesterday evening to meet a friend. She was there waiting for me, however because of several MTA issues I took longer than expected and by the time I arrived, she had to step out. It took me two hours to arrive and of course I had to use the restroom really badly. I walked in, advised that I was meeting someone there but wanted to pop into the restroom. When I came out, I was looking for my friend, when one of their employees came up to me, to say "oh you're looking for your imaginary friend?" The attitude was unnecessary. I tried to ask the staff behind the bar if they had seen her and a different employee said, with a nasty attitude, "you do know we have two locations, right?" I tried to show a picture of my friend to see if they had seen her and they acted like they were so busy, when I'm clearly asking for assistance. I called my friend and found out her had to run to her car, but was on the way back. I waited for her and whe she arrived Mr "Imaginary friend" asked me if I wanted a table for two. IKYFL! I told my friend what happened and that I didn't feel comfortable eating there or spending any money in that establishment. I dont want to assume reasons for the treatment, but all of that was unnecessary. We left and took a walk around DUMBO,after settling on some amazing Thai food. If they read this review, DO. We also enjoyed the chicken vermicelli and the tofu noodle soup. All very good. We also enjoyed a true ginger lemon with honey tea. Such a great dining experience. Now to the service. Em has become our go-to vietnamese place in Brooklyn. Pho is really solid, as is my favorite Bun Thit Nuong - really flavorful pork, well cooked noodles. I also had their special spicy noodle dish last week which they had just introduced, and it was fantastic. My only complaint is they don't have a spring-roll-add-on option to their Bun Thit Nuong, which seems pretty standard at most Vietnamese places.
