The only thing I would say is that the noodles are often slightly overcooked for delivery, which is why I'm giving it three stars. However, the taste is divine. I'm hoping in person is better, as the noodles won't have time to disintegrate in the packaging. I have never been in person so I can't talk about the service or ambience. However, every takeout order I've gotten from here has been consistent, and I've ordered three times. I would say that, that I'd love to try it in person probably in the fall. Small Vietnamese restaurant -- 2/5 stars. I went with two friends for lunch and we were seated immediately. Ordering is done through a QR code, which made things simple and quick. Between the three of us, we ordered: * Edamame * Spicy cucumber salad * Thai basil popcorn chicken * Two "Money" phos (one with extra brisket) and one brisket pho * Lychee hibiscus iced tea * Two mint Thai teas * Three separate orders of sesame balls Even though we all submitted and paid at the same time, the food came out very sporadically. Drinks arrived first -- the Thai teas were tasty and refreshing, but the lychee hibiscus tea was weak, with almost no flavor. The cucumber salad was disappointing. It was basically cucumbers in sesame oil, and we had to ask for chili oil to make it resemble the "spicy" salad advertised. Even then, it was just cucumbers in chili oil. Food continued arriving in odd order. One pho came out first, then mine, while our third friend sat waiting. My edamame came after the pho -- overboiled, mushy, and under-salted. The popcorn chicken was much better: crunchy, flavorful, and paired well with its dipping sauce. Honestly, that and the Thai teas were the highlights. The pho, though, was bad. The broth had a sour, unpleasant tang, and adding hoisin or sriracha didn't improve it. My bowl even came with a full stalk of mint thrown in uncut -- either I had to fish it out with my hands or leave it floating. The beef was chewy, overcooked, and in the case of the rare slices, not even cooked through because the broth wasn't hot enough. I had to hold pieces under the broth and wait to eat them. The sesame balls tasted good, but the service around them was frustrating. Two orders came halfway through the pho, but the third didn't arrive until 20 minutes later, after we asked twice. Getting to-go boxes was also a struggle -- we had to ring the help button repeatedly and wave down the one staff member working. The staff member was kind, but they were stretched far too thin, and service was slow across the board. For the price, this place is absolutely not worth it. The total bill came to about $140 for three people, which is outrageous given the small portions, poor service, and overall disappointing quality of food. Between the cost, the bad pho, and the lack of staff, I wouldn't return. read more

Potentially the worst restaurant I've ever been to. Downloaded yelp just to write this. I genuinely want revenge after eating here. The pho was unbelievably bland, noodles too short to pickup, and really just lacking any flavor at all. The best part of the meal was the dumplings which I believe to be from Trader Joe's. My second Money Cat experience was confirmation of the first. For me, the broth of the beef pho is just missing some depth of flavor. I can't put my finger on the missing element, but I know it's not there. Adding hoisin and Sriracha improve the flavor, but I think of these as condiments to use sparingly for flavor enhancement and not as the flavor itself. The noodles could also have a better bite to them. The standout, however, is the mint Thai tea. It's absolutely amazing. It's so good that at $6 I ordered another one. I was that taken. If you go, know that it's a seat yourself establishment where you put in your own order via QR code. If you're at a table at not a booth, utensils and napkins are conveniently in a drawer attached to it. This makes for a very contactless experience since the server comes by just to drop off water or your food. With so much done for yourself, it did make me wonder what the tip was for. read more

The ambience is fun and hip; I thought the drinks were interesting as they lit up. I will say it separated the ice and the drink and I didn't have a way to mix them together. I came in recently with a friend for brunch and everything was fantastic. My friend had the money pho, and the broth was rich and delicious. It was also a huge portion. I got the ribeye bahn mi and it was well balanced with perfect ingredient ratios. The bread maintained its crunch with out getting soggy. Honestly the is my new favorite bahn mi. Portion overall is small which I could deal with if the flavor was good, but it's literally flavorless. Not to mention, the tiniest portion of beef in the world. Went here on 3/28/2026 and the guy working was extremely rude. I tried to do a takeout order and was told no without any explanation, decided to eat in the restaurant and he would not answer any of my questions about the menu. Excellent food at a great price. The house pho here is very good. Some people probably hate that there is no waiter service -- you just order on your smartphone via a QR code. It's fast and easy and you save money on tip. I like the tables with the hidden drawers that have utensils, etc. Interesting decor. They do have beer and sake. What a cute restaurant name! And the interior design to match. Some friends and I came here for dinner in between comedy shows, and I was actually super impressed by how good the food was. I got the Chinese Sausage Vermicelli Bowl but would love to try the pho next time. I rarely see vermicelli bowls with Chinese sausage, which is why it caught my eye on the menu. The sausage was cooked perfectly (can't really mess that up) and the balance of other ingredients, flavors, and textures was mouth-watering... especially their house made fish sauce! Reading other reviews, I clearly missed out on some of the other wonderful parts of Money Cat, like the Vietnamese iced coffee. Service was great. I guess that would put me at a 10... but anyhow the vibe here is super hip, fun, and just all around different than the norm. You can tell that the owners and management had a lot of fun putting the place together and showcasing their personality and style. From the elementary school chairs to the picnic style tables to the rotating barber shop and a ton more, everything seems so perfectly reclaimed and repurposed. As for the food... wow. I ordered the The Money Pho, which had both sliced smoked brisket and rare beef. It was served in a delicious broth and filled to the brim with vermicelli rice noodles, bean sprouts, shiitake mushrooms, Thai basil, Thai chilis, cilantro, mint, fried garlic chips, and of course, some lime. The portions were huge and the meat was so tender that it soaked up all delicious flavors, making each bite seemingly better than the last. I was in the company of friends but had I dined alone, I would have surely slipped down my bowl. Not even kidding. The vibe of the restaurant was very cozy and welcoming. The owners (and their cutie baby) were present the entire time to make sure everything went off smoothly and was enjoyable. We were started off with veggie and pork spring rolls and summer rolls. I don't eat pork but, thought the veggie spring roll was delightful. The summer roll was light and refreshing and had a hint of sweetness from the mango. I ordered the lemongrass chicken banh-mi and thought it was a big portion and very tasty. I wish they didn't included the tough parts of the cilantro stems and be careful when chewing as I did come across a piece of bone. I washed down my delicious meal with an ice cold Coke. The affogato was delicious and it was my first time having it. I drank the coffee first and then ate the ice cream. I didn't realize I was supposed to eat them in tandem. Imagine yourself with your boo, on an overcast and cold gray evening. It's drizzling outside and has been all day. Together, you have the sudden inclination to step out for soup--piping, steaming hot full of umami flavor and comfort; but only pho will do.... In your search for something new, you go a little further out to a different Vietnamese spot. Stepping up to the restaurant, you realize oh no! this spot looks a little too cute on the outside. You step in anyway, and you make the mistake again: never trust a cute restaurant when you're in a craving. As the rare beef and smoked brisket phos slid onto our table, I could tell something was wrong. No steam, no bubbles, and very pink beef. How does one cook the beef if your broth is not hot? How does one enjoy pho without the heat, the sour, the freshness of peppers, limes, and cilantro? The answer is you don't. I've never experience more disappointment than I did in that bowl. A lukewarm broth, uncooked steak (I know it's "rare", but the point is to cook in the liquid), no accoutrements to add, and all that for the fair price of $17-19! Seriously, NYC's food scene is such a ripoff. The only reason this place doesn't get a worse rating is because the server was working his butt off. We had to keep getting up to ask him about the menu, to heat up the bowl, get a lime, for a missing dish, about the check....he was helpful each time, but they have some strange self-service system that's clearly not working, and bless him for trying his best, but I also suspect he's one of the owners and made this decision--so I might not be so sympathetic about his need to hustle. Overall, it's just a restaurant catering to weak palettes and gentrification: all focus on "the vibe" and marketing, with no attention to the food. Seriously, next time I'll just sear a steak and throw it in a bowl of the instant pho from the grocery store. This is a wonderful local Vietnamese cafe in the neighborhood and true to its origin. The music at night is always a vibe and it's generally an aesthetically pleasant place to be. The owners of popular brunch hang Father Knows Best up the block opened Money Cat at the start of the pandemic as a nod to the owner's Cali roots, having grown up around Vietnamese comfort food. Not much about this place screams authentic, and they're not trying to be, so I chafe a little at the criticism of restaurants like this for not staying true to the cuisine. The term authentic when it comes to food is a meaningless descriptor anyway. What matters is if the food and the vibes are good, and I'm here to say they've got both down, though as with many places you're going to have a better experience if you eat meat. People comment a lot on the decor here, and for good reason. The high ceilings, exposed brick, and huge white paned windows give the space an industrial feel, and to complete the look the space is furnished with repurposed furniture. They found lunch tables and chairs reminiscent of the kind you see in public schools, so it's no surprise to learn that they actually did find the furniture from schools. Money cats with moving paws found in Chinese and Vietnamese culture line the walls and windows, and the ceiling is covered in large paper lanterns. The whole space is covered in a reddish glow from the lighting. It has a very Bushwick feel to it and it makes sense why it's become such a popular hangout. I love the playlist here too. There are a lot of great options on the menu here, even for vegetarians, but I can't help but feel that you'd love the food a lot more if you're an omnivore. For example, on the pho side you can choose from rare beef, chicken, brisket, or "money" which combines rare beef and smoked beef brisket. I had the tofu pho option, and while I did finish the bowl I do wish there were more nuance to the broth, and to the pieces of tofu themselves. I actually hosted an event here a week after I had dinner here and tried the tofu vermicelli bowl and felt similarly, though for the low price point I really can't be mad at the simplicity of the bowl, as it does get the job done. Based on how much everyone at the event enjoyed their dishes I feel confident saying the kitchen knows what they're doing and the food is quite good here. Don't leave without trying their spring rolls, sesame balls, and their own canned iced coffee. read more

2.5 stars for the food overall. We ordered some pork spring rolls (or more like egg rolls). Four pieces came out on top of a few lettuce, a sprig of mint and a small bowl of dipping fish sauce. Decent! Brisket bowl was interesting as the rice noodle used was the actual pho noodle. There were a lot of peanuts and condiments on top but got left behind because there were just a lot of them. Proportion is everything, and that applies to how much condiments versus meat versus noodle and sauce in a bowl, too. Not too bad of a dish, just kinda random because smoky briskets with pho rice noodle and fish sauce are confusing together like this. Rare beef pho is so disappointing as the broth tastes even worse than instant pho or any instant pho broths I've tried. Bowl maybe has 3 or 4 extremely thin slices of beef. I don't want to make any comparison to traditional phos but cannot help it. I think it best to just avoid calling it pho, so that people don't compare or complain that they don't get the typical pho they've expected beforehand. There was millennial pop/rap music being played in background. I ordered the raw beef pho -- the portion was very big, but the meal itself was not good. The broth was not hearty, spices were not discernible, and the mushroom flavor was overwhelming. There was very little protein, and the amount of greens that typically come with pho were lacking. I'm glad to have gotten a good portioned meal, especially for how much it costed, but I don't think I would get pho from here again. Came in for a YEE and had such a great time I had to share. First the decor draws you in, and then the food keeps you wanting to stay all night! It is a great to see a family run business back in action after the pandemic hiatus. The spring rolls are a worthy appetizer! I really enjoyed the crispy pork spring rolls, wrapping it in lettuce with a sprig of mint takes it to another level! The summer roll and peanut sauce were lovely.
