My son's PCP at HLHC has been out on medical leave. In the interim he has seen two other docs in the clinic. Both have been completely inept. My son is on the autism spectrum and neither doc had any experience working with neurodivergent patients, nor did they attempt to make an effort to engage him in the conversation of his care. I sit with him during appointments (per HLHC's request). Based on the poor quality of care, I will be moving to another network of providers. read more

Incredibly non proactive. After a couple of x-rays, I was basically told that I simply need to sit in a chair for the rest of my life. I would give this place zero stars if I could. They have predatory billing practices- I went for an annual exam; the PA asked a few questions knowing that they could bill me for specialty care. Baseline labs did not include many of the screenings from previous dr. in Portland. They kept pushing to schedule me with other HLHC providers for other services like dermatology and ob/gyn, even though I stated certain preferences, like having a female dr. I ultimately scheduled these care services with other providers, and I am SO happy that I did. On a separate occasion I went to the High Lakes urgent care center with a skin rash and was told it was "likely just a breakout due to menopause" (I am 42 yrs old). Went to the dermatologist (not affiliated with HLHC) and she was appalled by the story. I recommend finding any other health care provider in Bend. In short, they care about making money, not about helping patients. read more

I am editing my earlier review that expressed frustration in a long delay for a referral to be pushed out from Praxis's referral department. They responded with an apology and explained there was an insurance issue, but it was their mistake, which I understand happens. In general, my PCP has been great, and they have worked with the VA's Outpatient referral program well, which can be challenging. Should one run into similar delays, I might suggest portal messages, voicemails, possibly a negative public review if absolutely out of options. read more

I had an appointment with an NP at 4:20 pm, I showed up but she was running late, so I waited but finally I had enough and wanted to leave. Turns out she is booked out in an advance and since I'm on a very important medication I did not want to take a chance on something going wrong (I read all the reviews, not good). It is not the providers fault. They overload their providers with patients like cattle for the sake of the almighty buck, stress them out, then they leave or they didn't meet a quota. This Management's fault 100%. Patient care should be the main priority, period! I was at HL for several years and I've been through too many providers. Thank God I switched. read more

Reviewing medical facilities and professionals is something I've avoided in my years on Yelp. I'll make an exception for High lakes Health Care, and this applies to the organization, not any particular office or provider. My insurance provider recently sent me a letter informing me that HLHC had opted out of their plan, meaning my primary care physician (PCP) was now out-of-network. HLHC chose the end of the year to do so and failed to inform me in a timely manner, or at all actually. I had to call to confirm what my insurance provider was telling me. (My PCP said they sent out letters but I never received one. No notice was given on their much more certain patient portal.) That's inexcusable. Given the timing, I'm certain that HLHC had contemplated and determined to drop my insurance well before the end of the year; specifically it was probably before the Medicare open enrollment period had closed. Which is important because I'd have liked the option of changing insurance rather than changing my PCP. This isn't the first time HLHC has done me wrong. A few years ago, my then PCP decided to leave town but rather than allowing me to shift to another of their providers as an established patient, HLHC now considered me as unestablished, meaning I had to wait months to get an appointment. Good doctors, good facilities, lousy business practices. read more

1 Star is generous. I've had a dozen appointments at HDHC and not one has been on time. 20 to 45(!) minutes late every time. It's sad when they have a sign in the lobby for YOU the patient to notify them if they are 15 minutes behind on your appointment. Seems like in 2022 we'd have some medical appointment software that would alert the front desk folk about the timeliness issue? Nah, front desk people are more concerned about your mask. Mind you they'll charge you if your late or flake on an appointment but will not hold themselves to the same standard. "Rules for thee but not for me" Doctor visits, when you finally get in, are acceptable but nursing and assistants is a revolving door which adds to the turmoil. Unfortunately, like most industries in Bend, HDHC lack accountability and we are without options. read more

I had an appointment at 1:30 today. I was 10 minutes late. The receptionist rudely said in a very loud voice, you are 10 minutes late. I apologized and she said I had to take the two people before you. I said I can wait and she said I do not have an appointment until later on the afternoon or tomorrow. I said, thank you and left. They do not care about their Patients. I felt like I was a cattle call. The last time I was there, one year ago, I waited. 1/2 hour to be seen even though I made a appointment. When I moved away from the area, they wouldn't refill a prescription that I have to take daily for an ongoing medical condition even though I was up to date on wellness visits and still had 2 refills available. All image, no service. The admin is a mess and bog down with expensive and overly complicated processes. After gatekeeping you from getting care doctors think it is your fault and treat you like an idiot and ponder why you did not get to your appointment or make a new one when really you've been trying into them in the first place. Before you start with them just take a look around the empty parking lot and call them under the guise of asking them if they take xyz insurance. With no patients in the lot, you'll be lucky if they answer the phone under 20mins and/or return your call within a week. That should tell you all you need to know. read more

i had an appointment scheduled at 10 am for a required 20 mi office visit. I arrived 15 min early as suggested. Checked in and waited. at 10 they escorted me to me with the DR. at 10:20 the Dr. had not showed.at 10:252I exited and went to the front desk and explained the situation and ask to speak with the office manager who's door was opened and she was working on the computer. The front desk went to the office manager and the office manager asked the girl to shut the door on the way out. The office girl told me it would be a minute. I was talking to their staff on their online app, about my symptoms, which says same day appointments can be made, 2 days later an appointment is finally made. I get to my appointment that they made, they knew my symptoms, was told I should have gone to their urgent care and I shouldn't be there at that appointment which she told me to make. They had already cancelled my appt for being a no-show when I walked in 10 mins late. They did not attempt to contact me. I understand the need to have a cutoff time but the nurse had to look me up before she remembered that she'd cancelled the appointment which tells me it had happened well before I walked in, otherwise it would've been fresh on her mind. Again, I support a cut off time out of consideration for other patients but let's be real here, it's not like the Dr would've walked right in to my exam room after intake. Go elsewhere read more

It is most disturbing that no matter how long a patient has been on a medication or how long said patient has been with the practice they still insist on a patient visit to renew a prescription. High Lakes does not care about helping its patients, I have been taking prescribed mood stabilizers and antidepressants for years and getting my prescriptions refilled is impossible, I finally called desperate and crying because I had been without my medication for a week and no one would help me, they hung up on me, all I needed was for someone to refill my prescription and they couldn't care enough to help me even though being off of those medications makes a person very unstable and suicidal. This is a terrible place, if you need help, do NOT go to High Lakes. read more

My physician is stellar but when trying to reach the physician regarding care issues the communication between the call center and her is atrocious . There is a total breakdown between the person taking information on the phone and it being conveyed to the Physician or Medical Assistant resulting in very poor care at times. High Lakes has really deteriorated in the functioning of its support staff. Frustrating to say the least. I had a really negative experience with nurse Amanda at High Lakes Shevlin Park. The front desk accidentally scheduled me for the wrong appointment type (totally fine, accidents happen).. But Amanda took me back and was super unfriendly and irritable. She was rude and spoke over the top of me, insisting that I had was wrong about the appointment in which I myself scheduled. She was condescending and made me feel- just bad. I get having bad days, but she was just plain mean. I was willing to wait for super long, frustrating hold times and slow response for test results.. but Kindness matters! I will be switching doctors offices. read more

I'm so disappointed to see so many negative reviews about High Lakes Healthcare! Personally, I've had nothing but AMAZING care with Dr. Madeline Lemee. She is personable, honest, and professional. In addition, I've had the nicest interactions with all other staff, from front desk to nurses, MAs and techs. I've never had to wait more than 10min past my appointment time, which is understandable, in my opinion. My prescriptions have been called in quickly to the pharmacy, and I've received lab results quickly. I highly recommend Dr. Lemee and her team! read more

Beware before booking your appointment here! We have been patients of High Lakes for more than 10 years as our GP was based there. Unfortunately, she retired last year and we have been subjected to the underlying administrative chaos outlined in so many of these reviews. We had no idea until now how hopelessly mired in bureaucracy this place has become since joining Praxis. It now seems that practicioners are encouraged to code visits for maximum profit. We have been mis-billed for a basic, preventative annual visit and have now fought for months for them to correct their error. These visits have ALWAYS been a cost-free annual benefit of our insurance. Likely, yours too! This year, High Lakes decided to code the visit incorrectly causing two bills with high out of pocket cost. The ensuing run around has been exhausting. Our insurance company has been extremely helpful and agrees that the visit was mis-coded. They even rejected one of the bills from HL due to duplicate billing. HL will not help, and only passes you around among their internal departments without any assistance, transparency or proper records keeping of the interactions. We are healthy proactive clients who use health coverage benefits minimally as we have done for more than two decades without issues. This year, there has been a change in the High Lakes billing structure that seems structured to cost clients more. Extensive reviews on their billing with our insurance confirms their mis-billing practices. After years of thinking we were in good hands, we will now seek another provider. The time we have spent attempting to correct their billing errors cannot be returned. read more

I have been a patient at several High Lakes Facilities for more than 4 years. I have liked every physician I have seen there. But the quality of the physicians is undermined by a completely incompetent support staff. I've experienced billing errors, appointments cancelled without warning, rude receptionists, and incorrect lab referrals. My health is too important to risk on people who have no idea what they are doing. read more

Though I have always enjoyed my interaction with the staff and the doctors at high lakes, there seems to be a serious disconnect in communications. I have been told that I would get a referral to a surgeon and after a period of time I finally called the surgeon myself only to find that no referral was given. I've been told to go get my blood tested and when I went to get it tested there was no order for it. I have had several prescriptions that were supposed to be submitted and when I went to pick him up there was no prescriptions there. Very frustrating and unfortunately not a one-time deal. read more

Yelp really needs a zero or negative stars option. I had been going to this practice for 4 years on a quarterly basis, and when I tried to schedule my latest appt, I was notified that I had been discharged as a patient due to not having paid a $20 copay. In fairness, they had sent me a letter stating this, however I had somehow missed the letter and was not notified I had an outstanding balance on the regular visits I made in person after missing the $20 copay. All that said, the reason for the low rating is not simply about the fact that they discharged me over a $20 copay, but also around the process of trying to get reinstated and how dangerous this strict policy can be. When I found out when trying to schedule my latest appt that I had been discharged, they transferred me to billing and the balance was paid. Since that time, I was told they should have a decision in 1 business day on my reinstatement. After calling for 3 straight days inquiring on status, I was told to call back in a week. Meanwhile, I am unable to get a simple prescription renewal fulfilled, which seriously impacts my overall health. I stated this when dealing with them over the $20, and they said they would rush their decision on reinstatement, but then the "oh wait, call back in a week and we will let you know then." Anyway, while I take responsibility for not reading my mail in a timely fashion, I find this business of denying care over $20 to be dangerous and negligent. Basically it is clear to me that $20 is more important to them then the overall well being of their patients, and thus would strongly discourage using this practice if there are any other options. read more

I cannot speak to the quality of the doctors, I am sure some of them do amazing work. However, in terms of the managers, people scheduling appointments, and front desk personnel, almost every person I have talked to in my opinion has been extremely not nice, unprofessional, condescending, and not helpful whatsoever. All of the appointments I made were canceled the day of or somehow there is not a record of them?? I am now in a very dangerous situation where I may have to go off of the medications I have been on for almost 7 years cold turkey. I wish I had attempted to find another doctor's office but my family has all been clients of this care office for years. Another terrible fact is the majority of health care offices in Bend have months of waiting before getting in, which is why I tried to start this process at the end of May/ beginning of June, not foreseeing that this was going to end this way. I cannot encourage you enough to look for another doctors office!! Save yourself the frustration and anxiety. I feel so sad and scared. One star is too many. My boyfriend was having some rather worrying symptoms. The word "cancer" keeps running through his mind. He had an ultrasound Monday morning. Tuesday: no call from High Lakes. I work in healthcare. Ultrasound results don't take long. Wednesday: no call. He calls them. His doctor has gone home but they've had the results in for awhile now. Thursday: no call. He calls them. "We closed today because of the weather. Your provider isn't in." "Can another doctor look at the ultrasound and call me with results today?" "No. they'll call you tomorrow." Seriously??? He's been dealing with this for 2 weeks and no one can find 2 minutes to call him and tell him what his ultrasound results are and what to do next? I work in a medical office and our providers would NEVER go home before patients got their test results. People are waiting and worrying! Stop blowing them off! My sister was a patient of a female doc here. I knew from the medical probs she discussed with me that she was NOT being treated correctly. Her doc was more interested in ANNUAL bone scans (To pay for their equipment) and selling their 'concierge ' medical practice than to properly work her symptoms. She treated her with 1 yr of antibiotics for bronchitis with no X-rays,labs,etc. My sister died after 1 yr from metastatic lung cancer! Bend has NOT attracted the best and brightest! read more

I have been going to High Lakes for over 20 years, since they have been down town. Nothing bad to say until now. A couple years ago I started seeing Dr Reuter, as my old doctor retired. I do not go to the doc very often. Well yesterday I called to make an appointment to have a leg injury looked at. I find that Dr Reuter no longer works there unbeknownst to me and wasn't notified of this! I'd said that "I really don't care who I see, just need to see a doc". As one of the Yelp reviews on here says, you have to see YOUR OWN doc! BS!! I don't believe this is acceptable if you don't care who you see as a doctor?! So now I'm told that I have to be treated like a "new" patient and go thru a PA to get basically an interview to see who they are going to refer me too again and that next appointment is not available until October!! No. Absolutely no. Since I moved to Bend I have given this clinic my best shot and I just can't any longer. Starting off with the horrible front office staff that always seem angry and unhappy to be there. I don't blame them... The clinic is always packed, and they are understaffed. They are short, rude, and look miserable. Nothing against the staff themselves... Just poor clinic organization and preparation. I've had Dr Reuter for sometime now... Originally I get like he understood my issues at hand and was shaping up to be a good doctor.... After a few months of seeing him for the same issue its all been downhill from here. Don't bother talking to him. He won't listen. First time he did, from then on it was like talking to a wall. As I was explaining a reaction to a prescription, and a mistake HE and his staff made, he raised his voice at me and refused to check his system to confirm what I was saying, cut me off mid sentence and did not listen. I will be writing a formal complaint to the clinic itself for today's incident... But I assure you'll have pleasant first time visit, and if you have an on going condition please expect him to be extremely rude and condescending. The worst service I've ever had. I'm leaving this clinic all together. Never again. Oddly enough the nurses I had while visiting were the only good part of the clinic. They were nice, sweet, and actually listened more to me than Dr. Reuter. Unfortunately, it seems that his practice is ran more as a business than a health care facility. Despite scheduling my first appointment with Dr Schott in July for an appointment in October, completing my forms ahead of time, confirming my appt via text, driving 40mins to my appt, finding out their text message sent me to the wrong location, driving to their other location, and, as a result, arriving 10 minutes late, I was sat in the lobby for another 10 minutes to be told that my appointment was canceled. They did not provide a reason and I was told I wouldn't be able to reschedule for several more weeks. When I expressed my hurt and disappointment, I recieved an apology from the receptionist who had zero control in the matter. I don't think it's right for a healthcare facility to cram as many patients in a day simply for the financial gain; without boundaries for what is feasible, businesses like this will continue to underserve their patients. read more
