However, I am giving them such a low rating because of the fact that it has its paying customers wait till 7pm on a Saturday to use its restrooms. What a hidden gem! I never knew this place was here, hidden in the back of a wine tasting room. Small little room, dark, full of tiki ambiance. The hostess was friendly, and knowledgeable, and let us bring our small dog in with us "only if you let me pet him!". She brought our dog water as well, very kind. The drinks are not your typical tiki fare...no rum in sight, but all wine based. We ordered the Pirates Plank, and Tiki Bandit...the wine is poured from tiki taps at the bar. The drinks are heavily garnished and perfectly refreshing, but not intoxicating. While we were there, a confused Australian was very disappointed with his Mai Tai...expecting rum we bought some tiki glasses, and got comped one drink. My girlfriends and I found this place by accident while out and about in Solvang for my birthday and what a gem we found! Who doesn't love a good old Tiki themed bar? [Side note: Yes, I mean Tiki themed, because that's what it was. Who would walk in to a "Tiki" bar in the middle of Solvang, California and expect it to be authentic Polynesian, no one that's who. The décor clearly represents an American stylized idea of Tiki carvings and art so don't expect the real deal or anything that truly represents the culture. End side note] The ambiance was great from the quirky background music to the monitor playing random clips of old American Tiki themed movies. The place is small but appropriate as I don't imagine a large number of people to be in there at one time. I loved their use of the different cocktail glasses, it definitely made drinking them more fun and made for a unique presentation. Just to clarify, they do not serve liquor. Instead, they serve wine cocktails. I am not a big wine drinker but I loved these drinks! The "Tiki Bandit" was an all around favorite and it was a wine version of the one from Frankie's Tiki Room in Las Vegas. It tasted great! We also tried the "Pirate's Plank" which was great if you like ginger beer. The "Batten Down the Hatches" is great if you are a fan of crème of coconut and crème de banana. The "Black Jack" was also good and you really got all the flavors of the red wine. We also got the "House Special" so that we could get "leid". I can't recall if I tasted this drink but my friend drank the whole thing which makes me think she liked it ;) The bartender was great, I forgot to catch her name but she's got black hair and tattoos. She was a great hostess and also told us it was "Tiki Tuesday" which means all drinks were half off. Awesome! Will definitely be returning to this place in the future. read more

Disclaimer: this is not a tiki bar. It is a tiki themed room in the back of a wine bar, serving a full menu of tiki inspired drinks. High Roller does not have a liquor license, so all of their cocktails are made using wine. The decor is okay, considering the limited space, but nothing special. Felt like a cross between a Cabo Cantina and an unfinished museum exhibit on Hawaii. As a tiki enthusiast expecting a menu of rum based libations this shocked me, but I attempted to keep an open mind. The bartender with dark hair and tattoos was very kind, and assured me that the drinks are tasty and do not taste like wine. I started with the Solvang Siren, which was terrible. It tasted like cheap white wine sangria, with an unpleasant artificial orange aftertaste. The Blue Hawaii was slightly better, but still tasted like white wine with fruity additives. Both drinks were overpriced at $12, especially considering they contain no hard liquor. I wish I could understand the owner's vision, but the concept of wine based tiki drinks simply does not make sense. read more

During two recent trips to Solvang, I visited The High Roller Tiki Lounge. The business has only been able to provide outdoor dining due to current circumstances. However, that did not detract from the quality of the drinks. The thing I found most unique about the beverages were that most of them are wine based cocktails. The ones I had were very enjoyable and served in customized tiki mugs and glasses. My favorite was the Nani Wahine. It was a refreshing mix of Sobé Cucumber & Botanical "Vodka" with dragon fruit and lime. The tiki lounge currently provides food supplied by local restaurants. The charcuterie paired well with the drinks. I'm hopeful the business will be able to allow customers to drink inside in the near future because their tiki interior is spot on. There is also an upstairs area that has a retro-Vegas theme that looks like it'd be a blast for wine tasting or a small, private gathering. Solvang is a great place to go for wine and The High Roller Tiki Lounge has its fair share. But, if you're looking for a fun and delightful deviation from the traditional wine country experience, swing by The High Roller Tiki Lounge! read more

A touristy place who hates tourists. We came in to order a cold drink and use the restroom after a long drive. After looking at the menu, we realized that all of the alcohol under the drink names were in quotes (i.e. "Vodka" "Rum", "Bourbon" etc). This place doesn't have a full bar, which is super disappointing for a tiki bar. We left because overly sweet wine drinks make us feel sick and we didn't want that. I apologized to a man (who I assume is the owner) about changing our mind about wanting a drink, and let him know that we were expecting a full bar and his menu wasn't quite what we were looking for. He was super rude to me and acted like I was crazy for not wanting a wine or beer cocktail. As we were walking out, he said to the redhaired bartender "As expected, they were just using the restroom", openly talking shit about us in front of us! Not all businesses can afford a liquor license, which I can understand but now I see why they can't afford it- they're rude to everyone. It blew my mind how crazy rude and unwelcoming they were. Owner is very defensive to criticism and I refuse to support arrogant jerks who belittle their patrons. I will never forget how awful they made us feel, and definitely will not be recommending this place to my family or friends. There are many other cute bars in Solvang that you should check out, I recommend skipping this one. read more

We made a reservation at this place about a week before we arrived in Solvang. We arrived at our time and a man came up to us, and before we could even say we had a reservation he said "so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you need to be 21 to enter". We awkwardly laugh and when we realize he is not joking we show him our ID's. He realizes we are all 25 or older and says okay well we are really booked due to live music, we say again we have a reservation for 8 but we didn't come to hear the music, he seems relieved and takes us upstairs. It is a single room with nobody else and just us, no other interaction. We wait for about 15 minutes then the host comes up again with another employee who once again asks if we're over 21 , we say yes and it's super awkward with them both listening to our orders, they leave and we wait. 20 minutes goes by and we get our drinks, the employees are awkward again, and then say that our card doesn't work but it's probably their machine so they type it in manually. Fine. I just don't get the grilling about our age, awkward as hell, if you have worries about age just ask for ID. It's hard to convey through yelp how awkward the encounter was. We also reserved a back bar room table and were not put there, we were put in an upstairs room we didn't even know existed. They did not even ask for a name to look up the reservation, so it just seemed like they thought we were criminals from the beginning not 21 and no reservation, weird and unwelcoming, drinks weren't great, overall most awkward experience i've ever had at a bar, only chose it because it allowed reservations and one of the few places in Solvang that was open somewhat late. Nice little tiki wine bar in the middle of town. All of the drinks are wine based, as they don't serve hard alcohol. The drinks are served in cute Hawaiian tiki mugs and some even have light up ice cubes. The idea of being in a Hawaiian themed tiki bar that it located inside a Danish theme village was kitschy at best. We went on a busy night so the service was slow, but the bartender was still nice and apologized. The space is small and can get crowded easily, but still worth stopping in for a break. read more

This place seems pretty cool. We purchased a Groupon but because of poor cell service I couldn't pull my Groupon pulled up. Went ahead and paid for a tasting which was good but I was told if I took a screen shot and bring it back they would redeem it. We did that and came back 2 other times and was told but others working they couldn't use the screen shot because they didn't have passwords. Well, now I'm out the Groupon money and don't get my other tasting. I am not going to join this club which was the one I was leaning toward. Little sad I live the bottles and art We had this trouble with Groupons from other places but they accepted the screen shot and I redeemed later at the hotel just to be fair and not use the Groupons double. read more

Stoped here while exploring Solvang and had a blast! It's everything you would want to see when you think of a Tiki Lounge. The atmosphere was great and the three man band playing was keeping the mood live. Between my husband, Sister-in-law and myself we had about 10 drinks off the menu and each one of the were delicious. (coming from a server) the server(red headed lady) was very short with me as soon as we walked up cause I asked about the rules for dogs & if I was allowed to bring her inside(I get not all places are dog friendly, definitely not mad about that) it was the attitude. My boyfriend went in & was looking around. He asked to try one beer he hadn't had before, the lady huffed & said she would bring it to the table(that was outside) Like as if she was even busy. (There were 3 to 4 people she was serving in the whole establishment) she brought the small cup out & seemed like we were such an inconvenience for her. The High Roller Tiki Lounge is a secret tropical oasis hidden away in the sleepy Danish village of Solvang, California. It is like no other Tiki bar we've ever experienced!! Alanna led us to Sort This Out's back room, which had obviously been recently refurbished into a tropical paradise, and we were instantly transported. Soft exotica music played as a montage of mid-century beach movies looped on the flat screen TV. The room itself was smallish and cozy, but with ample seating, including a booth, a table, and a tufted corner couch. The lighting is perfect. I immediately noticed the blue and pink lightbulbs overhead, giving the room a dim, moody gentleness. The lounge itself is wallpapered in thatched grass. The decor is more "eclectic" than "hodgepodge," ranging from kitsch to "wharf," plus every flavor of Tiki in between. The whole thing is clearly a labor of love, and the overall effect is one of sophisticated, down-tempo mid-century chill. We of course chose the corner couch, where we skimmed the menus. Then--and only for a split second--my heart sank. Okay, side-note, and please indulge it, because this really is important: The sleepy, touristy town of Solvang has NOT A LOT OF RUM IN IT. I love drinking, okay--and it took me about five whole minutes in Solvang to notice that there isn't much here in the way of cocktails. Turns out, almost no one in Solvang has a liquor license, up to and including THE LOCAL IRISH TAVERN. Now, that's cool with me. I can go without a cocktail for, like, a day. Local establishments serve wine, beer, and cider instead, and they close relatively early, meaning there isn't a whole lot of drunk tourists puking in the (pristine!) streets, where kids and moms and actual horses are walking. I get it, it makes sense to me, I love the city, it is what it is. But how, oh how, is a Tiki lounge supposed to serve cocktails without RUM? Here is the answer: High Roller makes Tiki cocktails with wine. Wine! My tiny flicker of disappointment was immediately curtailed by a feeling of excitement and curiosity. No rum? How does THAT work? I had to find out! My companions ordered the House Special (AKA "This Drink Will Get You Lei'd") and the Pirate's Plank. After some deliberation and assistance, I settled on the Painkiller. Alanna made quick work of our orders; as she did, we took the opportunity for some much-needed relaxation. As we chit-chatted with Alanna, we all kind of melted into the couch. It's interesting...! There's this concept of "hygge," which is itself intrinsically Danish, this idea of coziness and special times spent among friends and loved ones. It is, by its very nature, relaxing and low-key, and a lot of it relies on the host maybe cultivating a warm environment. So the High Roller Tiki Lounge was really special in that it is simultaneously a hip and chill Tiki lounge, but also ineffably "hygge," like a knit sweater or a game of Scrabble. It's just such a unique atmosphere, and I've never encountered anything quite like it before. Our drinks were set before us one by one. Now, for the moment of truth...! We tentatively sipped. And... WOW. Our minds were completely blown. Yep! Our drinks were INCREDIBLE. I liked the House Special and the Pirate's Plank very much, but I should go ahead and tell you that my drink, the Painkiller, was definitely the best. At least *I* thought so! And, like a true rum-based Tiki beverage, it tasted dangerously like dessert. As for the white wine--the ingredient about which I was so concerned at the outset--it was not even *detectable*. But it sure was delectable! Like any true Tiki concoction, I only knew there was any alcohol in my drink at all because, as I slurped it, I maybe developed just the teensiest of buzzes. Yum! This...! This is pure sorcery. The geniuses at High Roller have handcrafted an environment and an inventive cocktail menu that, together, are nothing less than magical, and that are also peak Tiki. If the Danes are known best for transporting folks to happy fairytale lands, then, it must be remarked, the Danish-Americans (and their friends and co-residents) should be known best for creating a special sort of all-American Tiki fairytale story. Just... to capture so much of Tiki drink culture in such a small space, and without even a drop of rum available, is just such a magnificent feat, y'know? Anyway, the whole thing must be seen, and tasted, to be believed. We want to thank Alanna for the excellent company (and for dazzling us with those drinks!), and for seeing us off back home with joy in our hearts and deliciousness in our bellies. As for Sort This Out Cellars, we definitely plan a return trip to Solvang to spend more time in your amazing establishment! We didn't have time enough to really sit and enjoy it, but we loved the atmosphere and the rockabilly 'tude. I'll pack my best A-line dress for our next visit! The tropical tremor was the standout favorite drink after a booze filled Valentine's getaway in Solvang with my sweetie. Our little cocktail server (whose name I wish I remembered) recommended the charcuterie to go with our drinks and it was excellent with lots of variety. I loved everything about this joint. The hosts were super friendly but not pushy. I don't like super tannin rich wine and each wine in our tasting was smooth finishes and low tannins. Someday... I want this place inside my home. Hidden in the back of a wine-tasting bar in this cute little tourist town, the High Roller Tiki Lounge didn't disappoint. I loved the decor, and the drinks were great. Tried the "This Drink Will Get You Lei'd" which came with a cute purple Lei as if I were getting off the plane in Hawaii. Also had a coconut craving and tried "Batten Down the Hatches" drink. I'm not huge on wine these days, but the mixtures really tasted great!
