Saturday, 5/23/2020 - due to COVID19, we've been stuck indoors 24/7. We're all beginning to feel that cabin fever and itching to get out for a bit. So... we went exploring in Applehill. Drove by this place and saw they were open. We decided to drop in. To our surprise, it's beautiful!!! Colorful Irises everywhere. There's parking available, cute bathrooms, wedding/reception area, bbq area, a beautiful pond, stairs, a few tables with chairs to have a small picnic and just enjoy the scenery, just gorgeous here. Absolutely gorgeous. I loved it here. The lady who lives here and grows these Irisrs is so sweet. We ended up buying two Irises from her. They are just too beautiful. I will come here again just to get away from the city and enjoy some peace and quiet. read more

So beautiful! I attended a wedding recently at this venue and it was wonderful. The staff were very attentive and it was such a beautiful day in October. The weather was just perfect! My only feedback was the parking situation; patrons needed to climb a "slight" incline to the ceremony site, but there was a closer "drop off" area, which was convenient. read more

Absolutely love coming here in May to see the bearded irises in full bloom. It is so beautiful and so much color. Namcy is very helpful and nice. She likes to show you where the flower is that you buy. A definite must see during may. The best time to seethe iris garden is half aay thru may. This is when the garden is in its full bloom. My wedding could not have been better! The venue is gorgeous all season long! I got married in the middle of August and there were still lots and lots of beautiful flowers in bloom and the weather was completely comfortable up there! Nancy, the owner, was sooo very helpful and sweet! She offered lots of advice and help! I also had her do my flowers for the wedding, and she nailed my concept!! I was going for a vintage rustic ambiance, with the colors mint and peach (not the easiest colors to coordinate btw) with white milk glass vases. The flowers looked absolutely beautiful! She provided flowers for approximately what is would cost me to buy them wholesale, and provided a larger variety of flowers and without the hassle of doing your own. Our wedding was phenomenal! I don't know why people are complaining about the owners not doing much. You paid for a venue, not for a wedding planner. They provide decorations, chairs and tables. You have the OPTION to HIRE help for parking, trash pick up and floral arrangements, etc. You pay for insurance and a deposit! Nancy and her husband went above and beyond to help create a magical wedding day for us. I was worried about set up, but with help from my bridal party and family, we had most things set up the night before! We chose to have Nancy do our floral arrangements and they were beautiful! She helped us coordinated with the DJ and made sure things ran smoothly! This place is ran by dedicated owners, which is shown through their quality of professionalism and beautifully manicured venue. I recommend this place to any bride. We rented a house nearby and got ready before the wedding, as the changing rooms at the venue are smaller, but it worked out perfectly. Please note, THIS IS AN OUTDOOR WEDDING VENUE! Nancy did my flowers "in house" which was awesome and took so much headache out. She also recommended vendors that fit our wedding perfectly. She supplied an awesome bartender and two parking attendants for our wedding and again, it was another headache avoided! The venue is beyond words. Like an oasis tucked back on winding mountain roads. The grounds are stunning and my guests where so in love with all the lush greenery and foliage. They do an amazing job of keeping up the grounds. A semi-rustic wedding venue in Apple Hill area of Placerville, CA High Sierra Iris Gardens doesn't provide shade canopies. This is very inconvenient for the persons renting the facility. Access to the premises is sketchy, on a very dusty gravel road. Just getting the vendors access is difficult at best, with no loading ramps or walkways to speak of. Finally, the bathrooms are glorified "out houses" with no A/C. Not recommended unless you're on a budget and cannot afford a better facility for your wedding! read more

The venue is beautiful especially for an outdoor wedding, lots of flowers, and trees. Place is well kept. The venue does need more lights on trees. But... there is a huge risk if you have your wedding here. First, everyone knows April showers brings May flowers. My wedding was on May 23, 2015. First, you do not get a coordinator for the place and you are pretty much left alone planning with little to zero assistance/guidance from the owner, Nancy, so you better have a good memory and take pictures everywhere. The owner is very nice but she is completely hands off in planning your wedding. Don't believe everything she tells you--why...During signing my contract with Nancy, I asked if there was a specific time the noise should be off and she said "no, you can party all night" (not that we would but I had planned to end the wedding by 11pm). I even wrote it down on the contract that there was no limit to when the music should be shut off. I later found out from Nancy that the music had to stop at 9:30pm a few months after I had already signed the contract; I only found out by chance when I visited the venue again during another wedding; of course with the bride's permission. Good thing I found out before I had my wedding invitations sent out. I was looking at the weather forecast two weeks and a week before the wedding and the forecast said possible rain. Like many brides, I was in a state of panic as there was really no plan "b" for this venue and everything was outdoors. So I immediately contacted Nancy in hopes to put up a tent and possibly plastic over the grass so it doesn't get muddy. The only reason why I know it gets muddy there was because I've visited the venue on April, a year before my wedding. Nancy told me not to worry till the week of the wedding and I took her advice. In the beginning of the week, it still said possible showers so I asked the owner again if I can put up a tent and painters plastic over the grass so it doesn't get muddy a week or at least 2-3 days prior to my wedding, she said "no" as it would ruin the grass (so with everyone walking on the grass wouldn't ruin her precious grass and its not like the tent poles have to be on grass). The owner did agree that I can put up the tent the day of the wedding but only hours prior. Well, this only works if the forecast said rain on my wedding day and it wouldn't fix the mud on the grassy area...Nevertheless, I was stuck with no option but pray to God that it wouldn't rain on my wedding day. The day before the wedding, during the wedding rehearsal, it showered that morning. I was frantic but looked at the forecast again and it said "no chances of rain," Nancy even said to me "I told you not to worry about the rain, see" (the famous "I told you so" comment). The day of the wedding came and I as well as the wedding party was busy preparing for the wedding. Nancy didn't tell me it rained the morning of my wedding, I wished she had so I could have put up the tent. Low and behold, after the ceremony, it rained heavily and hailed ruining my wedding. No tent! Just a picture of Nancy shrugging her shoulders (taken by my photographer) after the rain. Also, why is it that Nancy is all over my wedding pictures on her sweater jacket and jeans--could you at least dress up if you are attending my wedding to check up on things. So if you are getting married here make sure there is not even a chance of rain within the month or have it elsewhere! My wedding costed $45k ($2,500 for the wedding venue + $250-500 mandatory venue insurance...though there are no wedding insurances that cover weather). Nancy was kind enough to allow us to retake some pictures at the venue but it wasn't the same as there were no longer any flowers, guests, the decorations, etc. I just wished Nancy allowed some leeway (put up tent and painter's plastic) and worked with me, the bride, to prevent disasters. $45k for one hour, the most expensive hour of our lives that we are still paying for. A special moment that little girls dream off and if ruined, can never get back. By the way, why is Nancy dressed up in a sweatshirt and pants while visiting my wedding. She sticks out like a sore thumb and had to explain to many guests who she was plus my wedding pictures (the few good ones apart from the rain) are ruined as she is on them in a sweatshirt. Could Nancy at least make an effort to dress up so she doesn't ruin peoples wedding pictures! read more

This venue is absolutely incredible. Even when the irises aren't in bloom, there are still so many gorgeous plants and flowers blooming all season! We got married at the end of May and the weather was near perfect - our ceremony started at 2:00 pm, and it was only 75 degrees out. Our guests loved the chance to walk around the grounds, sit near the pond and enjoy a drink, and loved that there was a lot to look at. We were also able to have our rehearsal dinner there the night before at no extra charge! Unreal!! Our vendors had absolutely no issues setting up, and actually quite enjoyed the facilities. Nancy (the owner) was amazingly helpful, kind, and thoughtful. She did the flowers for our wedding and they were absolutely ideal, and for a fraction of the cost of a florist! They were much more unique than most wedding flowers I've seen as well, and she incorporated some pieces I'd been collecting which was great. Nancy really went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect, and we were so grateful! We also had two guests in wheelchairs who had no trouble getting around. If you're looking to have an outdoor wedding at a beautiful venue owned by one of the sweetest women I've met, this is the place for you! It's just far enough off the beaten path to look beautiful and untouched, yet not too far so as to inconvenience your guests. We could not have imagined a more perfect wedding, and that was largely because of Nancy and her beautiful venue. read more

Our daughter got married at this amazingly beautiful wedding venue this weekend. It surpassed all of our expectations. Guests repeatedly said that this was one of the most magical and breathtaking scenic places...just like a fairytale wedding. The owner, Nancy, went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met. Her ongoing communication and helpful advice were greatly appreciated. Due to Covid, we had to reschedule this event from 2020 to 2021. The owners were very understanding and worked with us in getting a new date to ensure everyone's health and safety during this pandemic (now that needs to be applauded...THANK YOU!!). And to top it off, one of the groom's wedding party (Levi the Husky) escaped by getting out of his leash. Nancy helped in the search and I am happy to report he was found safe and sound thanks to the help of these owners and their neighbors. We will never forget this day!! read more

My husband and I were married here in October 2012. The location was exactly what we wanted, and the amenities were fine. It's a beautiful location with a lot of flexibility, which was necessary for our small wedding that the bride/groom planned. The hosts were easy to work with, and let us visit the location with notice. It's not the ideal location if you have a number of wheelchair users, however we made it work with our guests. My suggestions include: Additional flood lighting near the bathrooms, space heaters available to add on as an option. Overall, a wonderful venue - regardless of your budget. If you want the flexibility to bring in ANY vendors you wish, then High Sierra Iris and Wedding Gardens is your place in the Apple Hill area. read more

I got married here on 10-12-13. It was absolutely beautiful and the venue is gorgeous!my only reason for giving it 3 stars is because of the fact that the owners don't do anything. I can understand paying a little cheaper and having to take care of setting up yourself but you pay these guys over 2K to do nothing. Yea they keep it clean and pretty but they don't help set up or clean up, don't have running water for caterers, or help guide guests to park. To top it all off they then also charge you $100 to take away your garbage. We didn't want to do that so we had to put all the stinky trash in our cars and throw it away in the hotel dumpsters! My wedding was gorgeous and fun. But mostly because my friends and family made it that way. We set it all up and made it beautiful. High Sierra iris gardens location is also beautiful naturally, which is why it deserved the 3 stars. If I had a bigger budget though I would've gone somewhere else so that my friends and family didn't have to work my entire wedding. read more

Our wedding was on July 9th. Not only is this venue incredibly beautiful, but Nancy is AMAZING! She is not only the owner of the venue, but she is a great florist as well. I highly recommend using her for your flowers. During the rehearsal dinner and morning of the wedding, she was present and served the roll of a wedding planner, making sure everything went off without a hitch. This is not her responsibility, but she did it on her own accord because she cares so much about making your day special. Without hesitation, I give Nancy and her venue 5 stars. Although we are completely satisfied with the venue and the service provided by Nancy, there are definitely a few recommendations I would make to help make your day go a little smoother. We set up a sound system and had quite a bit of static through the speakers because the electrical circuit around the deck is very noisy. We know this was the problem because it only happened when we plugged in the laptop power cord. We solved this by taking electrical power from the BBQ area on the lower level, so make sure to bring a 100ft extension cord if you plan on playing music through a laptop. You won't have issues if you play it through a phone. We were a little disappointed in the parking people Nancy recommended. Only the bridal party was supposed to park on the top level, but they let guests park up there as well. All guests were supposed to park down below and come in through the side entrance. As a result they missed our welcome table and did not get programs my wife spent a full day making. I would recommend either not using them, or assertively confirming expectations beforehand and have them in place an hour before the ceremony. Despite the above comments, we were extremely happy with Nancy and her venue. Plenty of space for lawn games or anything you can dream up. Her provided lighting and decorations were beautiful and there are NO distracting urban sounds from planes or cars. It truly becomes your own space and own experience. We visited quite a few venues and I cannot recommend any place or anyone better than Nancy and her gorgeous venue. You will not be disappointed. read more

A breathtakingly beautiful venue! Seriously, photos do not do this place justice, go see it in person. The pond and surrounding plants are a gorgeous backdrop and everything is set up nicely here. The owner, Nancy, is very helpful during every step of the wedding planning process she is involved in. She was even helping us clean up until 11:45 at night! She is also a wonderful florist, so ask her about arrangements! I was maid of honor in a wedding here on July 25th. This was a 120+ person wedding and everything worked out great. Space was not even close to an issue and there is a deck that can function as a dance floor. She does have tables and chairs so that eliminated one thing to worry about for our bride. She was also able to use any vendors she pleased. There are lots of lights in the trees and it is just as gorgeous as during the daytime once the sun goes down. There are buffet and bar areas and a fridge at your disposal. If you can have the wedding on a Saturday, you get all of Friday to set up which was great for us. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone! It is gorgeous and the owner could not have been better. read more

This is THE most beautiful garden and venue in California!! Ever since I was in High School I knew that I wanted to get married at the Iris Gardens. In September, I made that dream a reality and the owner Nancy made the day far exceed my expectations...Obviously the grounds were stunning on the day of! It was super easy for all of the vendors to have a designated place to set up. There is a secluded patio off a path that lines the pond that was PERFECT for the caterers to grill and set up a buffet line. I really liked that it kept the food out of the way and it just felt like such a nice extra touch. The flowers were done by the Nancy and she does such an amazing job! Not only were they beautiful but she sets them up at all the right places making it one less thing that I had to worry about. Nancy also provides totally affordable, A+ staff (upon request) for the event. Everyone LOVED our bartender, and the parking attendants were another one of those little touches that made our day that much more special. Choosing this venue was the best decision that we could have made. The amount of information that I was provided with in an email after I booked saved me so much stress and time. It covered any question that I could have had about the venue and even included table measurements for table clothes! You can easily tell how experienced and professional Nancy is and it made such a huge impact on the wedding. I am so grateful to this family for opening their doors and allowing us to Celebrate our marriage at their venue!! I would definitely get married here again! read more

I would have loved to have gotten married here but logistically it wouldn't have worked. However, it is a beautiful property. Nancy was a pleasure to communicate with, very friendly. All the information on renting the venue is on the website. It's fairly inexpensive to hold an event here which saves a lot of room to put money into other things like food and alcohol. She's got beautiful lights strung all over, and there's ample space for guests to walk around. It's a little off the beaten path, and the road is narrow and windy so keep that in mind when guests have to drive back to their hotels with alcohol in their systems. May and June is probably the best months to hold your event as the irises will be in bloom. No need to do much decorations with all the greenery around. Road is graveled leading up to the venue, property and her home seems to be quiet as it's set back from the road a bit and there aren't other buildings that I could see close by. Two small bathrooms only, no staging area for bride and no place for her to hang out with bridesmaid until the wedding, Though she has a small small tarp/ tent to close off with one of the bathrooms for brides to have some privacy. Not very handicap friendly. But go check it out! The website pictures don't do it justice! read more

The location is beautiful, the iris hill is wonderful for pictures, and the weather turned out great. On May 26th, 2018 I had the most amazing wedding at High Sierra Iris. It rained Friday evening during the rehearsal which freaked me out a bit but Nancy was down with us giving us options and ideas and totally eased my mind. Saturday morning the grounds were absolutely perfect. The dance floor was clean, the lights were up and all the foliage was manicured. You can tell that Nancy & Mike take so much pride in their work and what they have to offer at their venue. Nancy was the best venue owner I could have ever dreamed to work with. She responded to all of my emails, calls and text in a timely manner and helped to make my wedding magical. I also had her do my flowers and they were again, more than I could have imagined. I haven't even had my wedding yet and I can already say I am thrilled that I picked High Sierra Iris Gardens!! Nancy and her husband are so kind and extremely hard working, hence how beautiful their property is! They do it all on their own! I knew from my first meeting with Nancy, 5 months ago, that they aren't really involved on the day of... They are responsible for providing a beautiful atmosphere, and tables and chairs! With that said, I already have it planned out to have family help with the set up and take down. I ended up going with a caterer who was familiar with the layout (Diane Wilkinson Catering) so that way they knew what they were getting into. I know not a first thing about what a caterer would need, but I knew that amenities were limited. Nancy has been wonderful about responding promptly to ALL of my random questions and has been kind enough to meet with us each time we've wanted to show off the venue to family. If you've been to this venue, you know how stunningly beautiful it is. We knew the moment we first looked at the venue that this was a truly magical place and we knew we didn't need to look elsewhere. We also knew at that time that there are some challenges. First, the wedding and reception area are one and the same which makes it hard to set up for your reception. You end up having to have people set up the tables and decorations just after the ceremony ends. This creates some issues in trying to figure out how to set up and decorate the day before. Another challenge is that there is no building for the bride to get ready in so you have to get ready elsewhere and drive to the venue. And the third challenge is that before coming down the aisle, the bridal party has to wait on a gravel road. I ran into some issues getting stickers in my dress and had to have the bridal party pick them out after the ceremony. And having said all of that, these are all things we knew when we came to visit the venue and we accepted those complications for the beauty of the place. Overall I found Nancy to be very flexible and helpful. She was prompt in replying to my texts and emails and she was present and on time for our meetings (I cannot say the same of me). In addition to a venue, she offers add on services such as parking helpers, garbage collection, bar tending and florist services. We took advantage of the parking helpers and her florist skills. Now I expected the venue to be beautiful. I did not expect her bouquets to be that stunning. I would highly recommend hiring her as your florist. Absolutely amazing bouquets. It took me off guard. She has some decorations that you can use (though these are not well documented so its hard to know what's available). So all in all, this is a beautiful place to have a wedding with a few hoops to jump through. read more

Not only are the grounds gorgeous, Nancy is the kindest and most organized person to work with, which really takes the pressure off! The venue itself has so many places to get the best pictures ever, the pond, the stairs and all sorts of little hidden gems. I had my wedding here on June 14, 2014, and I could not ask for anything more from Nancy (the venue owner)! The property is filled with flowers, trees, a pond, a love seat swing, and other details that made this location perfect for my outdoor wedding! The irises were out of bloom, but I barely noticed. The grounds and (indoor) bathrooms are kept clean Nancy helped with organization and planning before the wedding and some set-up the day of the wedding. She was quick to respond to any questions I had via email. Her flower arrangements are beautiful and inexpensive. I highly recommend her! This place is beautiful. It has a pond, many trees, and a clearing where the marriage and the dancing, dinner, and dessert takes place. You get a wide variety of food to choose from at dinner, with lots of fruit salad, pot roast with gravy, potatoes, and more. When I went to this wedding, I had a blast. It's amazing! :D read more

We were married here Memorial weekend of this year and were extremely happy to have picked this venue. We found this spot on accident however the owners Mike & Nancy were able to make the time to show us the venue on the spot despite us not having an appointment. Both of them were great on all accounts, allowing us to come back multiple times to show family and vendors the location. The venue itself is gorgeous, the facilities clean, and there is plenty of space to move around, set up stations, etc. Plenty of natural shading with the trees however there was more than enough space to set up a couple of canopies just in case. There are no restrictions on vendors or catering as these are provided by those who reserve the location, which worked perfect for us as many other locations ask you to use their services. Overall, this is a great choice for those seeking a great looking, flexible, wedding location ran by a couple of friendly, down to earth people. read more

I had my wedding here last year and can only speak highly about this venue. I got married in September and the owners were nothing but accommodating to myself and my guests. We were able to bring in our own food and alcohol (which was a major plus given most venues don't allow you to do that) and we saved tremendously in that regard along with the price of the venue itself. The owners are nothing short of spectacular and if you're looking for an outside wedding, this is the place to go. There is a little cabin for the vendors to set up the food and also serve drinks out of. The trellis that we got married underneath was very romantic and the pond was well maintained and beautiful for guests to look at. I would highly recommend High Sierra Iris & Wedding Gardens to anyone that chooses to have an outside wedding, just make sure to have it in the spring or summertime due to no option for an inside wedding. If you go with those seasons, you won't be disappointed. read more
